I've been to this Outback quite a few times and it seems as though things have been slowly going downhill. The food hasn't been as great lately and I've been receiving silverware that is dirty (I've had to ask for clean silverware a few times). Lately, I've been ordering my food to go because the service has been quite bad as well. It's pretty disappointing!

I just ordered the mahi with artichoke hearts & sauce. Not impressed at all. I watched the waitress pour out my vegetables from a plastic bag at my table so I know they weren't fresh and not even cooked, but microwaved. The rice was stale and hard so....ditto. There were two quarters of an artichoke heart on top of the fish, and that's it. Two of my buddies received the wrong meals, and on top of everything else we waited for 45 minutes for our meal. Come on man. Terrible!!

Ok it's a chain but it's 10 steps from the holiday inn and my server was pleasant. The steak was cooked perfectly and the Malbec was $6 a glass? The other thing of note is that the ac is cranking in here

Been to Outback in Sumter a number of times and have experienced poor service at least 50% of the time. Food came out lukewarm too many times. Salads forgotten and then served with the main course. Cooks cannot consistently deliver steak at (or sometimes not even near) the temperature requested. Meat quality is inconsistent - sometimes tender, sometimes tough and shot thru with gristle - and the cuts are inconsistently sized. Apparently they take the "No Rules" motto a bit too far. They do make a decent hamburger and when I'm forced to go here that's what I order... that or just a plate of cheese fries with extra cheese. Fed up with being bitterly disappointed even though they consistently comp the disappointments. I don't want to go there to be comped for a bad experience, I want a pleasant uneventful meal. Too hard to get it here.

Prompt service, friendly staff, and my steak was actually cooked the EXACT way that I wanted (med rare)!

Disappointed with this Outback. Of the last 4 times I've been there, had bad service twice. One waitress tried to blame my wife for the rare meat she received (she only eats it well done), had the wrong beer brought out to me (instead of asking me if I wanted something else since they were out), screwed up the check, forgot sides and dessert, overcooked my steak (well done instead of medium), and on one occasion, was unable to answer basic questions about menu items. The last time was so bad, the manager started coming over to the table (we didn't request it, it was just that obvious). I thought he'd at least comp us an appetizer, but simply apologized several times and charged us full price. On the upside, the other two times went without a hitch and we had a pleasant experience. For the money, I'd rather go elsewhere in town where I know I'll get more consistent service.

Great Service, Great Food, Great Atmosphere! I have been coming here for 3 years and it is the only place in town I get consistently good food and have a great time everytime. You wont be dissappointed

It is not the best outback that I have eaten at but one of the best. They will cook your steak how you want it. if you want it to touch the grill for a second and then be pulled off they will do it. They serve the best bread while you wait for your dinner. The atmosphere is great for a restaurant. The location could be better. But all in all it is a great place. The prices are the same as any steak house in town. And it does get very busy on the weekends so eat an early dinner to miss the crowd.

Four stars in a large part due to the service me and a few friends got at the bar...friendly, attentive, and efficient. Their beer selection is what I'll call standard: the beer brands you see everywhere and aren't very exciting plus a Shock Top for girls and Sam Adams as the closest you'll get to a "good beer" if you actually like beer. I ordered the Lobster Tacos. You can get 2 or 3. They came out with a slightly crunchy (from pan heating I believe?) flour tortilla stuffed with crunchy veggies and topped with fried lobster nuggets. Could have used less veggie and more lobster. I never at any point thought "this has a great lobster taste" - likely reasons are 1) the chunks were almost certainly already prepared frozen nuggets and 2) it was fried....doesn't exactly highlight lobster's subtle flavor.

Stopped in early Sunday afternoon. The service was terrible. Waited one half hour for our food. Almost left. This will be the last time we come here.

We had not been to an Outback in a long time bc we try to frequent local places but not having many options in Sumter SC we gave it a shot and were impressed. Food quality and service are always good. Sometimes there's a wait when half the restaurant is empty guessing this is a staffing issue but it's usually only 10 mins. Drinks are strong too!

I have lived outside the state, in eastern NC where there are a ton of very nice boutique as well as chain restaurants. I haven't eaten at this Outback in Sumter for at least 10 years, after having lived in NC for almost 7. Went in on a busy Tuesday night 4 days before Valentine's Day, and I was very pleased with how quickly I was called for a table, and also happy with our waitor, whose name was Antonio, I believe (I'm writing this review sheerly off memory, 3+ weeks later). I ordered an appetizer of the wings and they were good. (I arrived long before my bf, who had last minute business at work, and the hostess had no problem moving me down the wait list at my request. I didn't want to take up a table by myself when others could go ahead and enjoy their meals while I waited for him). We eventually sat down to eat at 835pm, and by that time, there was no wait, and as soon as we walked in the door, we were seated. For this reason, I'm happy we had our dinner a few days ahead of the Valentine's Day rush. We finished our drinks and left about 1015pm. My bf ordered the New York Strip with a house salad, Cole slaw, and fries. He ordered his steak medium, and it came out "perfect," in his opinion. I took a taste, and the steak was juicy, flavorful, and yet the beef was not overpowered by the seasoning on it. I had the 9-ounce sirloin with steamed broccoli and fries. Steak was ordered medium-well, and that's exactly how it came...though I so wish, after tasting my bf's NY Strip that I'd ordered mine medium as well. My steak was flavorful, but I needed more "juice;" I really should have erred on the side of caution, and gotten it medium. Fries were crispy and hot, broccoli was perfectly steamed. I must say that I enjoyed the taste of bf's steak so much, that I will try to duplicate the taste at home. *Note: The NY Strip was wood-fired, and my sirloin was grilled over charcoal. I believe the wood - firing made ALL the difference in taste and really enhanced the flavor profile of the beef. Bf cooks, grills, smokes meat really well, and he said the steak was "almost" as good as his, which is saying a LOT. :) We also ordered alcoholic drinks. 2 shots of Patron Silver Tequila, 2 shots of Fireball Whisky, 2 Coronas, and 1 glass of Moscato (sorry, don't know the brand), which I had while waiting on our entrées. Drinks were full-strength, and we really enjoyed ourselves. Tab was $98 and with a 20% tip (roughly), I feel as though we ate and drank well for the price ($108 total). We will definitely be back. I understand why this particular Outback is packed every night of the week!

Gotta love Outback! Last time we went I tried their portobella mushroom topped seared 6 oz sirloin and it was one of the best steaks Ive ever had!! We go very often and we've never had any issues with the service. Lived in Sumter for 6+ years and we've never been disappointed.

I mean it's outback, nothing different. .. but what prompted me to write a review was the audacity of the waiter after I asked if they had military discount, he said no and followed with, "we'll loose a lot of money if we give military discount" lol really? The soul reason why you have a job in sumter is thanks to the base. Think about it kiddo, if Shaw AFB closes, all the little restaurants around will have to shot down. . Is logic and numbers.

Friendly, bubbly service. Ordered the seared tuna for an appetizer and the ribeye for the main course. Cooked it the way I wanted. Gave out plenty of bread but had to make sure they would bring out the honey butter. Will come here again when I desire a steak type atmosphere.

Service was very slow, especially for a Wednesday night. Drink orders were taken promptly, however they were delivered slowly, the same can be said about the appetizers. Complimentary bread was delivered only after it was asked for. The prime rib was anything but prime...it contained a high concentration of fat and was undercooked. The garlic mash potatoes were very bland and lacked texture, very runny. On a positive note, the hostess and waitress was very friendly, in this case I would credit the poor service and food product to the kitchen staff.

Visited on 9/9 and was extremely impressed. From the complimentry citrus infused water while waited 3 minutes for a party of 7 including an infant to our delicious appitizers and entrees. Perfect food, perfect service. I'll def. be back next time I come to Sumter.

The steak was really great, and the bar staff was really personable and friendly. It's a chain, but the steak doesn't taste like it.
