Upon finding out the gub-mint was forcing us to move to Sumter (Shaw AFB) after many years in Italy, the first thing I did was go online to see what kind of restaurants there were and, more importantly, to find out where we would be able to buy fresh fish and seafood. I figured Sumter is close enough to the coast that there would be a few decent options. Boy was I wrong. This place was the only one I found online so shortly after arriving here we went and checked it out hoping to find an assortment of fresh fish, seafood and shellfish. All they had were small, nasty looking fish that looked like they'd been pulled out of the local creek (crick?). I've come to learn that people down here prefer this kind of fish and they like it deep fried so it is very popular with the locals but for someone who grew up in New England, this is hardly what I call seafood. My wife loves oysters and so we've bought them from here a couple times but the quality of the ones we've bought has not been very good - she actually much prefers the oysters at the IGA believe it or not (I tend to agree). If you are a local, I'm sure you'll love this place and what it offers but I have quickly learned why most people who work here at Shaw (ie, non-locals) buy their fish and seafood at IGA.
