I guess it is the best food entertainment in town. The sushi is the best thing there. There are many items to choose from. I am turned off by the food inspection that they received a 70 on. Rat droppings were found in the kitchen. The bathrooms aren't very clean so I don't know how the chefs keep their hands clean. Their show isn't very technical. Miyabi's in the Columbiana mall is much better. The prices are the same but the food tastes better and the atmosphere is also more upscale.

Kobe is one of Sumters Finest, and really only, Japanese Hibatchi house that serves hibatchi style cuisine and has a seperate sushi bar as well... From my personal experiences there, mostly for sushi... I can say that the sushi quality is definately above average, though some of the fish does have a tendency to have that recently unfrozen taste...which is an unfortunate side effect of places that have to have their fish delievered from outside vendors. The sushi presentation is almost always excellent otherwise. As for the Hibatchi, I tend to agree with Brittany and Tim on the technical show with the hibatchi chef's it is definately no up to par but then again, well trained and sound hibatchi chefs are hard to come by...the health code stuff I wasn't aware of..but I can attest that I have never once gotten sick there and I go there alot. Amy(tall, attractive, and thin Chinese women) is one of the owners of the restaurant, she is always friendly and her kids are always running around the restaurant... but all in all this is a good place to eat if your in the mood for good sushi and are stuck in Sumter for a night. or forever!

Growing up, we had to drive all the way to Columbia to Sato If we wanted to go to a Japanese steakhouse. Then, Kobe came to town, and there was much rejoicing. This is one of those places where they cook on the table. I hear, though, that their sushi is also good. I haven't had it, though. We didn't have to wait long to be seated or served, and the wait staff was attentive without being annoying. I did have to ask for chopsticks, though. Over all, this is a good experience and a fun outing. Pair it with a movie in the same parking lot, and you've got a date!

Excellent food for the money. If you are looking for silverware and nice plates, don't eat here. They have plastic forks and spoons and disposable plates. But the food is awesome! I've tried most of the menu items and haven't found anything I don't like. Definitely a great value - if you don't mind the disposable items.

This place is really great for Hawaii! I have celebrated numerous birthdays here and the experience continues to get better! Although the menu is limited compared to Tanaka of Tokyo and Benihanas it still has a lot to offer. Overall I would probably be back! The happy hour menu alone is enough to make someone run back for more! Not to mention its right in the heart of Waikiki :-D

One of the better choices in Sumter. There is very little available in this town, so you really have to review this place on a curve, because if you try to compare food in Sumter to food anywhere else, then you will never find anywhere to eat. I was in Sumter for a week and I tried about 10 restaurants while there. This was definitely on the higher end of everything I tried, and if I am in town again, I will go back to this place. If you order straight off the menu, you will likely overpay, but I went with a special and I got the perfect amount of food for the price. The cook who came out and grilled for us was very entertaining and cooked the meat exactly how we wanted it, despite his English-speaking skills being less than conversational. Our waitress was courteous and checked on us often, but not too frequently. I noticed that another family dining there while we were had some food allergies and they were ordering several specially-prepared items. The staff seemed to be very accommodating to their needs and followed all their requests. This gave me extra confidence in the restaurant. I was also really pleased with how my vegetables were prepared. Often in Asian dining you get overcooked veggies, but mine were perfect all the way through, with just the slightest crisp to them.

This review is just for the sushi because that's all we ate. We were told this was the best sushi in Sumter. Coming from California I had pretty low expectations for the sushi here and ordered some very basic rolls (California roll, crunchy roll, rainbow roll and the F-16 roll for fun). I didn't think anyone could mess up a California roll but they did. The sushi was edible but wasn't very tasty. The F-16 roll had the most flavor but was also covered in sauces. Overall, I may be spoiled when it comes to sushi but I wouldn't recommend the sushi. I may come back to try the hibachi grill.

It's Hibachi! That's pretty much enough to get me through the door, since we've actually been looking for a while but had been hearing not so great stuff about other places in the area. Though most the negative (for others) was in reference to their sushi... it still puts a little fear in having anything else they are serving. However, we had actually heard some positive things about this spot from some coworkers, and decided to try it out for a friend's Birthday. What better idea than good food, entertainment while it's being made, and drinks. Sadly, the latter didn't happen. We goofed up and forgot about Sumter being dry on Sunday, which is when we made dinner plans. Our fault, not theirs. Most of us got different meals from each other, and enjoyed a cooking show. The chef/cook we had was very entertaining and funny, kept us involved but also gave us space for conversation as well. The food he made for us was very tasty. It's similar to other places I've had before, rice first follow up by with veggies, your shrimp app, and main choice. I had the steak and lobster. Everything was made well, though the lobster was a bit over cooked. Well seasoned, and in nice dinner size (even take home) portions. There were a few service issues. Maybe due to Sunday, but there wasn't many servers that night so it was slow sadly. Also, I had ordered dumplings and never received them. They DID take them off my bill because we didn't get them, thankfully, but we were looking forward to them. :-( Overall we enjoyed the experienced, and several of us commented that we'd be back again. Definitely a great option for kids, who will likely get more entertainment for the show. Be warned though, as with most Hibachi places, it's pricey.

Ive lived in Sumter for 6+ years and I have never been disappointed by Kobe. Food is always great.. restaurant is clean..staff is on point 95% of the time. We go before 6pm to get the early bird special at the hibachi tables in the back.

I thought all kobe ' s followed the same rules.. :/ food was impressively blah, no taste at all, the restaurant is old and not kept up to standards and definitely way overpriced for what they serve... obviously the hibachi "chef" was kool and friendly but that's the only positive I have.

Had the sushi and tuna roll lunch special, neither was edible and I am usually not a picky eater.

Rice was flavorful, filet was flavorful and delicious but the chicken was dry and lacking flavor. What a shock after getting such great food before the chicken. Also order your salad with light dressing or get it on the side my was drenched with dressing. No swimming in it is more accurate. Over all if you stick with sushi or steak you will enjoy your meal.

Compared to other Kobe's I've been to this one does not compare. The atmosphere is totally different. Very small and plain. You can choose to sit in the back around the hibachi tables or in the front. We wanted sushi so we sat in the front. The service was fine and the sushi was good but for the amount of money we spent I'd rather eat in a nicer restaurant.

We had a great time and a great eating experience. One thing, I really didn't want to the menus as they were quit sticky/greasy.

Sumterites have few options when it comes to sushi. Luckily, there is Kobe. It meets acceptable sushi standards, and I'm willing to ignore their low public health scores that pop up in the news from time to time. There is a a small sushi bar, with good variety, and about 6 hibachi grills. The hibachi chefs are OK, but they don't put on a spectacular show. Otherwise, service is pleasant. Sushi is good, but anything from the hibachi grill is great, and a pretty good value if you get the teriyaki chicken. The restaurant has one of the better atmospheres in Sumter. My suggestion would be the Sumter Roll, it's a crab tempura roll; not listed on the menu. Holy crap, it's delicious; and if they make it right, you'll be addicted to it forever.

Eaten here a few times and the food and service were very good, but too frequent low inspection scores requiring follow-up inspections have lead me to take it off my list of places to eat.

Absolutely wonderful! The grill was fabulous and the sushi was the best!

I didn't really like the hibachi here, it tasted bland to me, but i agree that the sushi was pretty good.
