I grew up in Sumter, and I absolutely crave the teriyaki chicken plate from this place. The carrots are sweet and delicious, and the pink sauce is just...so good. This place is a favorite with locals, and I'd imagine that people from the military base frequent it as well. The sweet is also amazing.

The dining area is small, but comfortable enough. Service was prompt, though the menu was very limited. No sushi of any kind available. Food came up very fast after ordering, though honestly the food was cold and generally lacked any distinguishing characteristics. Pricing was in line with the competition, though the value was lacking. There's far better Japanese food in Sumter.

Must conception on the name..hibachi grill and the hibachi grill & buffet are not the same restaurant.so please look at reviews carefully...hibachi grill is good...hibachi buffet...stinks...it's nasty...dirty...not taking care of and the food totally sucks.o and the workers can care less about you..

After reading so many reviews I just wanted to point out this is not the buffet hibachi grill. This one is located in front of piggly wiggly. the picture displayed is not correct. The one pictured is the hibachi grill buffet.

Decent selection on the buffet and mongolian BBQ is a great feature to have as part of a all you can eat place. Steer clear of the sushi (duh at a place like this). One of the best features was the ice cream & desserts which included little Debbie oatmeal cream pies - classic end to all u can eat Chinese. Considering other options in Sumter we will probably be back.

I can't believe that anyone gave this place a good review other than the wait staff is very friendly and helpful. One star is one too many. We had the miso soup, the gyosa and hibachi shrimp (which comes with "fried" rice, carrots and broccoli. The soup was unidentifiable and the rest of the food was not good at all. Aside from the fact that it's a cheap place I can't imagine anyone wanting to come back. But if you do, and you want an adult beverage, they did let me go over to Piggly Wiggly and pick up a four-pack of Black Swan wine. The chardonnay was excellent!

Best oriental restaurant in Sumter 2005 & 2006. Best Iced Tea in Sumter 2007. Best restaurant in Sumter 2007. A lot of accolades for this shack of a restaurant, located on the corner of Bultman & Broad. Hibachi Grill has stood here since 2001; the building previously housed a Little Caesar's Pizza. There's 12-15 tables inside with room for about 30 guests. The food is not cooked in front of your table like many Japanese restaurants, but on a grill behind the counter which is visible from the dining room. The atmosphere is very casual, with a few decorations strewn about. One table blocks an exit, the ceiling is filthy, the windows are covered. One look at the menu will scare you. Fillet Mignon dinner $7.95? Lobster Dinner $7.95? Fillet Mignon & Lobster $11.95? It's just way too cheap. I tried the Steak Teriyaki for $5.95, which came with fried rice, vegetables, Sweet carrots, and Japanese sauce. The fried rice was excellent, while the steak lacked flavor. But everything tastes great with their Japanese sauce. I could have eaten a sauce covered fork and been satisfied. The waiter and chefs were very friendly, chatting with us and keeping our drinks full. This is a great place for cheap Japanese.
