This place was just kinda meh for me. The location and atmosphere were alright. There was nothing wrong with the food, but there wasn't anything exceptional about it, either. I had the Eggs Meeting Street, which was good, but didn't make my taste buds burst with joy. I wonder if maybe I should have ordered the Deluxe French Toast since it was recommended by the New York Times. The mimosas my group ordered were worth ordering. I can't really see myself returning, but I am curious about that Deluxe French toast, so maybe I will have to check out their downtown location and see if it is better.

Wow! What a total disappointment! Called and made a reservation around 830 this morning and when we arrived at the restaurant, we had to wait an additional 40 minutes for our table. I was told that they don't normally take reservations so perhaps they should consider taking down the open table app on Sundays or inform their hostess of this because we could've gone somewhere else as oppose to waiting that long. Food had potential but was lacking signature quality most likely due to the kitchen being overwhelmed by the amount of parties in the restaurant.

Good food. ... great portion size... and very friendly staff even gave us drinks to go!

I was extremely disappointed when I took my friends from Ohio here. The food was overpriced and nothing special. I thought the mimosas would make up for the sub par menu, unfortunately those too ended up being a disappointment. Spend your money elsewhere :(.

Had a lovely dinner! The crab cakes were delish. Hubby had the fried catfish. Crispy and moist. Robin, at the bar, makes tasty drinks. We will return.

My husband and I had Saturday morning breakfast here today. Our first time trying this restaurant. The decor is definitely more attractive than I would have expected for a restaurant in a strip center. Lovely outside dining available. We were seated promptly by the window. Took a few minutes for our server to appear. We ordered coffee and ice water to start. Coffee was delivered promptly. No water. I asked a question regarding the biscuits and gravy. His answer - I haven't heard anyone complain about it. Not very helpful. I decided to try the biscuits and gravy anyway. With a side of sausage links. The husband ordered the chicken biscuit. Food arrived promptly. Server refilled our coffee. We asked for water again. Food was very good, service was average to poor. I eventually asked the hostess for water.

Wife and I went this evening. She crab soup was very good, not the best I have ever had, but still very good. (I should explain that I am a she crab snob). I had the gravy pork chop, mashed potatoes and cole slaw. She have the fried chicken breasts, collard greens and asked to upgrade to a fried grit cake. All the food was excellent! Service was spot on, and had a large wait staff. It have several creative mixed drinks, peach martini was great. Excellent wine by the glass and bottles. Very reasonably priced. Glad some downtown restaurants gave Summerville a chance. It will be here for a long time.

My first time trying this place. We came on a Sunday which is a very busy day but the wait was not long 10 mins at the most. We had an awesome server name Paul and let's just say your eyes are bigger than your stomach because when the food comes the next question is how do you plan on eating everything. If you order the deluxe french toast I recommend the single because it's already huge. See the server Paul he is the best and make sure to get it right.

Went here for brunch yesterday. THIS WAS SO AMAZING. Nicer servers. Great biscuits. Great alcohol. If I lived in the area I would go here on a regular basis.

I have heard so many fantastic reviews of the Charleston location, and I was more than excited to see that they had a new location just open 2 weeks ago in Summerville. My boyfriend and I came yesterday for Sunday brunch. Even without a reservation, we were seated within 10 minutes. I was impressed with that because I was concerned with the amount of people waiting that we should had made reservations. Our waitress promptly greeted us, but it took a while to get our drinks and our food, even when the restaurant was starting to clear out. For the size of the portions to the cost of the food, I feel that it was overpriced. The quality of the food was good, but I wouldn't have rated it the best I've had in Charleston, as I had assumed with the rave reviews of the Charleston location. I hope this is just a hiccup for them just starting out.

Our waiter, Daniel was so nice and knowledgeable. We had the green tomato bruschetta, the meatloaf an balsamic chicken. So good. Service was amazing, nice atmosphere and awesome food! Can't wait to try breakfast!!

My wife and I frequent the downtown location usually for breakfast, and we were excited to see them open a location close to our home in Summerville. We decided to try them for lunch on Saturday, May 3rd around 11:00 a.m. They were nice enough to put a table from the inside on their outside area so we could sit with our dog and enjoy the nice day. My wife had a cup of she-crab soup and a salad, and I tried the shrimp salad wrap with fries. Everything was very tasty and service was prompt and friendly. Bloody Marys are quite good also! They are new in town, and as to be expected are busy--when I drove by on Sunday morning I saw quite the long line. I imagine after a little while the new factor will wear off and the crowds will thin out some, until then if you want Sunday breakfast you should get there early before the church crowd hits.

I've eaten here 3 times since it opened & I've found breakfast to be much better than dinner. Last week we stopped by for dinner & I ordered a Ceasar Salad-big mistake. The salad was swimming in dressing & not very good dressing. The cheese tasted rubbery & probably came out of a jar. The croutons were disappointing, they tasted like they came out of a box. Croutons are so easy to make and real Parmesan cheese is easy to use also. The salad was inexpensive, but inedible. Personally, I'd rather pay more and not eat bad tasting processed food from a box. I'm not a great cook, but I could whip up a better Ceasar Salad than this at home.

The service is great. The food is above average, yet very tasty. My wife and I have been pleased each time we ate there. However, one time we were driving behind the restaurant to the coffee shop drive-thru and noticed a young man exiting the fridge that is behind the building carrying several loaves of bread that appeared to be unwrapped. Not a good visual from a customers view point.

Overpriced for what you get. Food was good, not great. Went for breakfast. Got right in because there was only two of us. They don't have many large tables, so groups larger than 4 may have a longer wait. Went to Toast downtown and thought it was just ok. This part of Summerville needs more breakfast places. Wait staff was great. They don't have any local seafood. Overall, just ok to good, not great food. You can get a lot better or same for less with a short drive. Next time I will drive somewhere else.

This was my second time here and I should have gone with my gut and gone somewhere else. The first time should have told me not to return to this place but I thought it was just a fluke and decided to give it another try. Big mistake! My husband and friend went there to for dinner on Saturday night. My husband ordered the rib eye steak and my friend and I ordered the Chicken Picata. The steak was thin and extremely grizzly and our Chicken Picata was in a broth in stead of a roux and looked horrible. We returned the chicken picata and I ordered the meat loaf (how can that be bad) and my friend ordered the catfish. Oh boy, big mistake again. The meat loaf was horrible and the "southern fried catfish" was dry and tasteless. Toast is supposedly a good restaurant, well after two tries I give up. Plus the evening manager was arrogant when we returned and mention the food was not properly made. At least the day manager was kind and thoughtful. The woman in the evening was just rude.

First of all their staff was awesome. I wanted to like this place. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating with our two kids. Great service, everything came out timely. But the food is where is all went to hell. We went for breakfast. I had the breakfast sandwich. Take two pieces of thick & dry toast, throw a giant patty of scrambled eggs on top with two pieces of bacon on it- that's the sandwich. Oh and serve with plain home fries. The menu lacked flavor and originality. Even ordered a piece of coconut cake that the waitress raved about (they're very talented at up-selling) and it was dry. Meh. My daughters pancake came with a packet of syrup and a packet of butter, you know, like at mcdonalds. You can't get a syrup bottle and fresh butter for all the money you charge? Also the booths are uncomfortable, every time the person seated behind you moves you feel it. Overall, over-priced diner food.

I love this place!!! The menu is so delicious if it is your first time going you will definitely have a difficult time deciding what you want to eat. Whether you love breakfast, lunch or dinner or all three this is where you want to be!!! The eggs meeting street has to be my favorite. My boyfriend constantly orders the Lowcountry eye opener and it is amazing!!!!! If you haven't been here yet please come ASAP!!!

I have eaten at the downtown location several times. The only thing this joint shares is the name. The recipes have the same name but none of the charm. I had the surf and turf. It was haplessly thrown together and had no real flavor. I was beyond disappointed!

We went early on Sunday Evening just before 5 PM. We were quickly seated and then greeted by our server. We were told that the Fried Green Tomato with sweet pepper chutney appetizer was super, so we ordered it. When it arrived to the table, there were 2 large and 1 very small slices of tomato and no chutney. Our server informed us that the kitchen was out of chutney. She probably should have told us this when we ordered rather than after the dish was on the table. I was sold on the Steak Oscar. the menu did not specify which cut of steak was used, so I verified with the server that it was a filet, 6oz filet. When the food arrived, the steak clearly was not 6oz, nor was it a filet, 4 oz sirloin at best. The steak was cooked properly, but tough as shoe leather. The mashed potatoes were mediocre, the asparagus was good, both pieces. the MOD claimed that they had gotten some bad cuts from their supplier and that people that knew good Steak Oscar had noticed. At the point that people are noticing that they are not getting what they paid for, the manager should have pulled the item from the menu. However, I am giving two stars because my wife enjoyed her meal despite the lack of ingredients needed to prepare our appetizer and my meal as described in the menu.

Pretty delicious with extensive brunch menu that makes it very hard to choose. All dishes prepared with fresh ingredients. The biscuits are big, fluffy and delicious. I know my biscuits too so...go for it. I had a play off a Benedict that was a small fried green tomato, topped with a fried breaded crab cake, topped with poached egg, topped with remoulade. A little spice...the breading on fried stuff was sweet and crispy. Well done. My only negative was that the double fried bottom layers made it hard to experience the crab and tomato. Good though. Grits are perfectly prepared and creamy. I'd go back because there were about 12 things I wanted.

    (4)
  • Banana S.

I had the Eggs Meeting Street. The eggs were drowning in "remoulade" sauce. I felt like I had a mouth full of mayonnaise. Aside from the sauce, the eggs paired well with the crab and tomato, the home fries looked as if they were cooked in day old oil and the biscuit, although not as flaky as you'd expect from a good ol' southern biscuit, was good nonetheless. The service is hit or miss depending on who you interact with. The hostess must have left her smile at home that day while our waitress was very friendly. Final Thoughts: "Meh" would be the most appropriate word to describe the food.

I ordered a deluxe French toast and an order of eggs meeting street. I was very disappointed with the French toast. It came to me burned. Why would a business serve someone burned food is beyond me. The toast was so burned that I didn't even recognize what it was when it came out. I was starving and I can't believe I even took a bite out of it. The eggs meeting street was not burned. However, I did not like the flavor of the sauce. Tasted like a bunch of mayonnaise was splattered on it. Disappointing. On the bright side, the waitress took excellent care of me. I wanted a vanilla latte and they were out. So she made me a white chocolate caramel latte herself and it tasted great. If it weren't for her, I would have left extremely disappointed.

Stopped here on the way back from Savannah on the way to the Charleston airport because I just had to try She Crab Soup before we left. New looking restaurant on the end of a new strip mall - nice decor inside. Friendly waitress, little wait time for our food. Ordered She Crab soup and a Sammie crab sandwich - the soup was awesome!!! Sandwich was great as well - and of course had sweet tea since it was apparently founded here In Summerville. Now back to Texas and my diet!!

First time dining and decided to take a chance. We ordered the deluxe french toast. It is huge and would suggest just getting the single unless you are sharing it with someone. My friends ordered the bacon eggs biscuit and eggs benedict. They all have big portions. The service was amazing and will be back once I visit again in Charleston.

An amazing breakfast! Huge fluffy bisquits, phenomenal grits, true southern breakfast! Unbelievable French Toast! And great staff, Timmy Jo was amazing! Asked our names and remembered them throughout service. Loved her! I highly recommend Toast and Timmy Jo!

My husband and I decided to stop by for breakfast. We were very disappointed in our meals. I had french toast, which I have at every restaurant to see how they compare. It was plain white bread squashed until thin and cooked until hard with no flavor. Cannot remember what my husband ate but he was very disappointed as well. I did give them 3 stars for service though it was excellent.

  • Brooks H.

Étouffée under seasoned as in not seasoned. Crab Cake was all shredded crab very mushy. Our omelette was also under seasoned. Needless to say the kitchen was having problems today. The Fried Green Tomatoes were good. It was the only pleasant surprise. The service was ok they took the food back and offered me something else right away. So at least they tried to fix it.

The food and service were both excellent. The Summerville location which we visited has an updated menu that had plenty of appealing options. My wife tried the shrimp and grits while I tried the pork chop dinner. Both were very good. Our server Tara was excellent working hard to ensure our visit was enjoyable. If you gave not visited before, it is worth the trip. We will be back.

Solid solid place. Pork tenderloin was great and the sweet tea chicken rocked. Corn bread is the best of all places and she crab soup is dynamite. Good service by Paul! Buy one Get one Free Entree all Summer!!!

I had the smothered pork chop they were great. I really like the crust on the pork chops. Wifey had the sweet tea fried chicken need I say more. Now we know why this is there signature dish, it was wonderful. The ambience was really surprising, a nice lil hide a way. A sweet little hang out.

First time coming here and it was very pleasant. After reading a couple reviews I was a little hesitant but this quickly changed when I walked in. The decor was very enticing and definitely complimented the restaurants layout. When we sat down we were quickly greeted by Melissa. She listed her favorite dishes, drink specials, and impressed us with her knowledge of the menu items. Eventually we ordered the Charleston Cheese Steak and the Grilled Chicken entree! The chicken was juicy and the stone ground grits were different in a good way! Will definitely return and plan on telling everyone!!

  • Effie A.

I previewed the menu and expected to order their specialty of sweet tea fried chicken. After the waiters description of the unhealthy aspect of eating fried food, I opted for the grilled version which was dried out - perhaps overcooked or too old. The asparagus stalks were tiny - about the size of my phone charger cable. The server seemed unfamiliar with servicing tables and did not present a pleasant attitude. Dessert was the only positive although my coffee cup disappeared before a refill could be requested. Perhaps breakfast or lunch would be a better choice of times to eat there.

My husband and I have been here several times. Very Satisfactory experience. We enjoy sitting at the bar. James, the bartender, was pleasant, eager to please, and attentive. Very affordable bar fare. Love the loaded shrimp and grits. Great quesadilla.

Breakfast was fast and good and the "Toast" facility was clean and spotless inside and out. Even though we were the first customers this morning, the server was friendly and fast. The manager, Robin, was very professional, and was paying attention to every detail of food quality and service. Looking forward to returning soon.

I agree with Sky M. Food is very inconsistent. Cooks appear to be amateurs with nobody checking what is coming out of the kitchen. They have had this problem from day one. Management is just asleep at the wheel. You will find a happy antidote at Sunrise Bistro just up the street.

Great service. Thanks Tammy! Go Frederick! We had the chicken biscuit and seafood omelet with shrimp and scallops, really satisfying and filling. The biscuits are always great. We'll be coming back for brunch again.

Always a good choice for brunch/lunch! Though a little too much food for me. Service can be slow during busy times but it's usually worth the wait. One day I'll splurge on a dessert!

I'm so surprised this place has so so reviews! This place is wonderful for brunch. Me and my boyfriend came here after our cruise and we come to find out they serve breakfast all day (thank god!). They also offer daily $5.99 lunch specials! I ordered a veggie omelet which came with a homemade biscuit which was ridiculously soft, the omelet was a very decent size, and some homestyle potatoes. You will definitely get what you pay for coming here. Our waitress was also very attentive. My boyfriend is in the military and noticed he had a USAA card. Gave him a military discount--hear that people in the service? :) If your looking for a place for brunch, come here.

I absolutely love brunch and also mimosas. So when my husband and I drove by this place a few times, we realized that we should at some point stop in as it appeared to offer a few of my favorite things. Thankfully on that front we were not at all disappointed! First, they have beautiful carafes/pitchers of mimosas on the menu. Second, the food was FANTASTIC! Third - they have outdoor seating (which is great and dog friendly when the weather is still nice). I had the Charleston Surf & Turf while my husband opted for the Shrimp & Grits. Being a California girl who spent most of her adult life living in Hawaii, I still haven't quite figured out how I feel about grits but this place seems to make them quite nicely (at least according to my husband they were stand-up grits). I can, however, comment on the beautiful deliciousness of my rib-eye steak, shrimp, poached eggs and English muffin. The steak was grilled to medium - exactly as I ordered it. And the addition of the poached egg with English muffins were delightfully Benedict inspired (and I love me some eggs Benedict). Overall the food was great but my oh my what a ways they have to go with service. Our server was fantastically entertaining, very personable, and also very helpful with the menu. Unfortunately at some point it looked like he as the only person working there! Also, the bartender often seemed to be busy and away from the bar so the mimosa carafe we ordered before we even decided on our food didn't arrive at the table until after our food arrived at the table. I'll absolutely come here again but will be a bit wary about the possibility of slow service.

Not too impressed with the food or the service. My drink order was wrong twice. I ordered the Southern Omelet (spinach, bacon, and tomato) and it came with those things, dripping in grease for whatever reason, and onions and peppers. It seems like the peppers and onions should have been mentioned? The waitstaff was nice enough, however distracted maybe? Kind of a weird and disappointing experience.

Had dinner last night with my husband. I had the grilled meatloaf with mixed veggies and it was wonderful. Our bartender Jason was very nice and inviting. We wish him well on his journey towards his Masters Degree.

This place has been recommended to me multiple times and I finally tried it. It's a small place great for brunch or lunch. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating which is a nice option. The menu choices varied a lot more than I thought they would so I was pleasantly surprised. Overall it was a good experience.

We (my husband, our 23mo son and me) had breakfast here yesterday. We were quickly seated and greeted by our server who was able to offer suggestions and answer any questions we had about the menu. Our son had the kids pancake with a sausage patty. The buttermilk pancake was light and fluffy. My husband ordered the corned beef hash, which was incredible and even had me second guessing my choice of the deluxe French toast (I opted for peaches instead of apples). The French toast was delicious, but could have easily been a dessert rather than entree. The single portion was generous and filling. We shared a carafe of pineapple/orange mimosas, and well, I've never met a mimosa I didn't like! We will be back!

My wife and I ate at Toast in downtown Charleston while house hunting to move to the area and LOVED it. We moved to Ladson and were excited to find out they opened a Toast in Summerville. We recently took some family that were in town visiting, hyping up their amazing desserts and she crab soup. We even called ahead to make sure that they had the same menu as downtown, and were assured they did. Well....... They didn't!! And after talking to the waiter, they are testing out different dishes and trying to make it more elegant than the downtown area by changing the menu. Overall, there were a few things that contributed to the 2 stars. The waiter was great, but 1. They did not have any of the desserts that Toast Downtown had. In fact, they were out of everything, except Red Velvet Cake. 2. 3 people in our party ordered the special, which was pork tenderloins with apple sauce, vegetables, and rice pilaf. The waiter informed us that nothing on the dish could be substituted (vegetables for fries). The rice pilaf was very bland, tasted straight out of the box. 3. The menu is nothing like Toast Downtown, despite they say it is. (She crab soup is very good) I had the Shrimp & Grits. I would give it 3/5 stars. I've only had S&G from 2 different places, so this one is 2nd, for now. Shrimp and Grits The good = chunks of onions and bell peppers (yellow, red, and green) added a lot of flavor. Brown gravy was good. The bad = not many shrimp. The ugly = the menu says a tasso gravy, but there is no tasso....if there was, it was chopped very fine. My recommendation.....don't change the menu... and stock up on the Coconut Creme Pie's and other desserts (that was the reason we went).

My husband took me to Toast for our anniversary. It was our last night in Charleston. We had a very memorable dinner! He had the sweet tea chicken & I had the shrimp and grits. Both dinners were out of this world (yes, I had a bite of his sweet tea chicken). Timmi Jo was our waitress. She answered all of our questions. This was the 3rd time that I had shrimp & grits, this trip. She let me know why that I would like theirs. And she was right! She went out of her way to make us feel at home. We went to several restaurants while in Charleston. Most of the waitresses didn't even check on us until we were done. Timmi Jo made sure that we had everything that we needed without being intrusive. Great food! Great service! Great value!

I really enjoyed my meal, I had the Sweet Tea Chicken with coleslaw and fries as my side. The coleslaw was sooooo good! The sweet tea chicken was cooked to perfection! Only thing about is i wish it had more glaze on it. The fries were good as well. The only real downfall was the drinks were a bit pricey and even though they had a martini special it was gross. Besides that, loved it. Great first experience!

Toast of Summerville just opened and boy were they packed for lunch. I arrived at 1230 and feared I wouldn't have a table today. As I walk in I'm greeted by several friendly staff an they were able to sit us in the bar section. Given my vantage point, I was able to see that they have quite the selection of top shelf liquor. Not that I get to partake during lunch. We started off with an appetizer of crab dip. It came with mini toast ( ironic?) And was a good sized portion. It tasted pretty good too though it wasn't the best I've had. I ordered a Toast burger with cheese and bacon with a side of fries. And my wife ordered the shrimp basket with fries. She liked the shrimp and her fries and also had enough to take home for later. My burger was very good as well though I thought the fries were a little on the week done side for me. They were nice and crispy which I like. It did seem a bit over priced for what we ordered. And though very pleasant the wait staff was apparently a little overwhelmed. Overall I plan on going back. Just probably not for lunch.

Really great food and friendly staff. Definitely worth trying if you haven't. Four stars because the amount of food you get for the price doesnt exactly add up. Perfect for a brunch setting!

This place gets 3 stars for 2 specific reasons. The first is we love supporting dog friendly business. They have outside seating and allowed us to bring our dog, though would have been nice for them to have a water bowl or something, luckily we brought our own. The other reason is the staff were very friendly, and helpful and accommodating. My girlfriend sent back a dish and they immediately offered to remove it from the bill. But the reason it doesn't get more stars is that we did not find the food to be good at all. My girlfriend did not eat any of her ordered food (biscuits and gravy and side of sausage) and while my fried green Tomatoes were ok, they are far from comparable to the top quality I've come to expect from the area. I also ordered the monte cristo and the French toast the sandwich came on was gooey and undercooked. For the TLDR : great staff, less than average food.

My guy and I came here for breakfast last Saturday. We had to park around back because all the "Toast" parking was full. We were able to be seated right away because we were fine with sitting at the bar area. It worked out perfect because a small table (there are three or so total) near the bar is where we ended up settling down. The bartender was also our waitress and even with having patrons at the bar, and people at the other tables, she was on point with taking care of us. I ordered coffee, my guy had a mimosa, and she even brought us waters which was appreciated. She did an excellent job keeping my coffee topped off too! Now on to the food... I decided to get the Southern omelet (bacon, spinach, tomato) with cheese grits and a biscuit. The grits were nice and thick, fresh cheddar on top, I only needed to add a bit of salt (not unusual for me) so thumbs up on the grits. The omelet was hearty and tasty... my only minor complaint would be the inside goodness didn't get to the edges of the omelet but that certainly wouldn't stop me from ordering again. The biscuit was very good as well! I ate mine with the jelly that was automatically provided. My guy ordered the steak and eggs, with home fries and a biscuit, also getting a side of the sausage gravy for his biscuit. The sausage gravy wasn't bad, but nothing I would order again. I LOVE biscuits and gravy but I guess I'm picky about it. It was tasty but for such a simple dish, I expect it to be delicious and not many places do fantastic biscuits and gravy. I had a bite of his home fries, and a bite of steak & eggs, all tasty. His eggs were cooked perfectly over medium, just as he ordered. The service was excellent, the food was good, I'd like to return to try some of their lunch/dinner menu as well. Happy to have Toast in Summerville!

This was our first experience with Toast, and it was fantastic! The food was delicious; the Irish Omelet with grits and a biscuit is highly recommended. Our server Timmy Jo was phenomenal; very personable and friendly. We will definitely be back.

I decided to take my wife out to a good dinner at Toast. I would be lying to say that I was satisfied with my dinner. The staff was super friendly, but I could not get past the ripped booth, dirty wall, and the scribbles on the wall as well. The mussels came out and were sitting in a bowl of butter. The meatloaf and potatoes were covered in what tasted like day old package gravy. Overall it was not a pleasent meal. With a new chef I might consider eating here again.

While the service was very good, the price seemed guide high for average food at best.

Not sure how Toast of Summerville doesn't have 5 stars. The reason we tried this place is because it's right next to our favorite coffee shop (Biggby). But, mam are we happy we tried it. The service at Toast was amazing, and our waiter Paul was wonderful. The atmosphere was set up nicely and is very classy. And the food, oh my goodness it was so wonderful. Compliments to the chef we will definitely be back for your mimosas and great flavorful meals. Thanks, sincerly a very pleased guest...

I am grateful for yet another attempt at expanding our culinary choices in the Ladson/upper Dorchester area. It has been a wasteland, with few choices other than the occasional chain, or the occasional Mom and Pop without a sense of direction. I went in around 2:30 on a Saturday, and it was surprisingly slow, with only a handful of tables sat. I was greeted promptly at the door and sat in a quiet corner booth. The building, tables, and restroom were all very clean. My server was knowledgeable of the items on the menu. I went for the eye opener. I know it's listed as a breakfast item but shrimp ettoufee, with grits and fried green tomatoes screams heavy weekend lunch to me. The food arrived promptly, maybe 10 minutes, and the presentation was spot on. Although I found it a little bit shy on salt, and could have used another shrimp or 3, it was exactly what was expected for a dish in this price range. Overall, the experience was enjoyable, and I certainly hope they succeed in this location. Many of the other reviews ranked negative in the food area, but that was not my experience, possibly future trips will prove otherwise. I also have a habit of managing expectations. In this area you have Perkins, Chilli's, a variety of fast food, and a handful of Chinese food. Thank God for somebody coming in and trying something different.

My first trip to Toast. It was a pleasant surprise to see I could still order breakfast at lunch time. Service was a little sketchy, but maybe it was an "off" day for the guy. He was pleasant & helpful with food choices. Oh, their coffee - its not dunkin donuts, but it was pretty good. Over all, the place was nice, the food was good. I will go back.

The staff was very welcome ing , since this was a Tuesday it was not busy, my daughter ordered Sweet Tea fried chicken, it was so "dry" and scorched, the same dry chicken was thrown into an order of Alfredo pasta, I have been there for brunch and it was good, all of the items are very pricey for this area of Summerville, and there are many good resturants within the area. I t will be a long time before I visit that establishment again.

First trip. Very good food. Had ham, bacon omelet. Cooked correctly with creamy grits and whole wheat toast. Great coffee. Service a bit slow, but they were packed on a Sunday morning, so that means more coffee time.

We went in for Sunday Brunch and waited an hour for a table. They didn't seem that busy. After being seated, we waited another 45 min for our food which was very good. Staff are very genuine and helpful, but slow. This place could rock if they could speed things up without sacrificing quality

This is a great restaurant for the price range and especially for great local Lowcountry fare and seafood. The ambiance was great and the service was excellent. Thank you Timmi Jo! The quality of the food was top notch and the pricing is reasonable.

Me and my girlfriend were hoping that our first time here was a fluke. I guess not! The second time the food was still mediocre at best the fries came out cold and my girlfriend sandwich look like garbage. They definitely need to work on the presentation. I had the California wrap, which really is just ate turkey BLT. In my opinion if you call something a California sandwich or wrap you should at least add avocado s and/or sprouts, and put it in a spinach wrap. Her fried green tomato sandwich came out with three very small slices of tomato and was supposed two have thick cut bacon but it was not anything that they can I have ever seen even the regular bacon I buy at Publix is thicker. We will definitely not be coming here again, ever! The one star the notes that the server was okay and tried to fix the problem. My apologies for my grammar being horrible in this post I am using speech to text while I Drive.

It was definetly a disappointment! We were there at lunch and we got seated and waited on, but took quite awhile before our food came. Once it got there our fries were cold and soggy. My wrap was hard to eat as it was very dry and flavorless. In that part of Summerville you need your locals, and I don't have a desire to return. I have to admit, Perkins down the road was better and a whole lot cheaper. I have never had cold food there.

  • Shinai K.

The food is good except for that it's so SALTY. It is so hard to eat five bites of grits without drinking down a half cup of water. The sauce is salty enough without the grits being so salty. Shrimp was cooked perfectly though. The steak was beyond salty. High sodium diet is not good for you and causes a lot of health issues. Toast should really be careful with the amount of salt they put in. Aside from these, Biscuit was amazing. Crabcakes were delicious. Everything else was great.

We really really wanted to like this place, but after giving it a go five (yes, that's right, five) times, I think today was our last visit to Toast of Summerville. We love the location in downtown Charleston, so when we heard they were opening up a (much needed) brunch spot in Summerville, we tried it out. Here is the breakdown of our problems each week. Week #1: This was only the second weekend they had been opened, so we expected a long wait, and were willing to wait the 45 minutes they quoted us. Now, I understand that a wait estimate is just a best guess, but when an hour and 20 minutes had gone by without any hope of being seated soon, we cut our losses and left. We had stood there in the small lobby the entire time and watched as other tables sat empty (nothing more frustrating than waiting on a table when you see empty tables sitting for an hour), and still other seated parties were waiting on food, silverware, drinks, even a waiter to take their order, so the hope of sitting down did not ensure eating from what we could tell. Week #2: This week the food and service was ok. The food is always delicious at Toast, so that was a plus. The waiter was a little TOO FRIENDLY, but not enough to stop us from coming back. Week #3: Again, a long wait, but it's a new place, and again, the only place in town to get a good Sunday brunch, so we waited. Eventually, we were offered to sit at a table at the bar, which we accepted. The waitress was kind enough, but we waited a looonngg time for everything -- the food, drinks, the check. Not great, but again, not bad enough to prevent us from coming back. (One other small measure of frustration is that the bar stools are far too low for the bar tables. Neither my husband or I are especially short, but we felt like kids at the table.) Week #4: The wait time and the service were perfectly adequate. It was a little warm in the dining room, but the food was great again and the service good. However, when I went to the bathroom (and let's remember this is a fairly new restaurant), it was disgusting. How a month old restaurant gets a bathroom that dirty by noon on a Sunday morning, I'll never know. Major ick factor. Week #5: But once again, not enough from keeping us coming back (we are clearly too patient for our own good). This time, we were seated right away! We got drinks, and our orders were taken in a timely manner, and then... we waited a looonng time for our food. I wasn't clocking it, because I was enjoying our conversation, but I would venture to guess it was at least 30-35 minutes. When it did come, it was cold and dry (it had clearly been sitting for a while, ready but undelivered), but yet still, my bacon was raw, and we had to ask for silverware. Another table near us had been seated before we arrived, and still didn't have their food and when we got ours. I overheard there was some sort of problem with the griddle, I believe. As you can see, all in all, the infractions aren't that bad, but it just doesn't seem they are getting their act together.

Four of us dined here on a Monday evening about 4:30. Certainly not crowded but we wouldn't expect it to be. James, our server, was prompt, attentive and knowledgeable. We chose the indoor seating but outdoors was available. Three of us chose the catfish with various sides. The fourth had a house sals with salmon. Everything was excellent! We all shared a pimiento soup (which had never had before) which was great! Try Toast. You'll like it.

Review on a take out order. Crab dip for appetizer: first they forgot our pita chips so it was difficult to eat properly and second it was a bit unseasoned but not too creamy and you can taste the crab very much. Kids penne and cheese: it was good for our little one. Entrees: sweet tea chicken was delicious. Moist and flavors souring. Smothered fried pork chops. Not so good. Ours were a bit over cooked and dry but you could tell if cooked properly they would have tasted much better. Side dishes. Fried okra, good, same as anywhere. A tiny bit to much breaking but good. Grits are delicious. Not bland at all. Mashed potatoes were extremely bland. I like chunky with skin potatoes but needed some butter or milk and more seasoning! The coleslaw was very good! Wish they were long long strips of cabbage instead of cut up but so delicious. The hostess was wonderful! Looking forward to trying it for brunch and give it another try on the dinner!

We love Toast! So happy they opened in Summerville. Favorite dinner dishes are the Sweet Tea Chicken (I order it with red rice and okra) and the Shrimp and Grits. Their breakfast is awesome. We love the Corned Beef Hash (it is the real deal and not from a can). You must try the Spinach and Artichoke dip appetizer. It is out of this world good! The staff is amazing! Great atmosphere! Can't say enough great things about this place!

The food and service are excellent as always. But can someone explain to me how you justify a $3.00 cup of coffee?

    (4)
  • Will T.

Service was good but Deluxe French Toast was blah nothing special. I'm more disappointed in after seeing my bill to pay $3.00 for a cup of basic black coffee ughhhh! NYC prices in Summerville, SC!!! I should've went to Starbucks!

This small cozy restaurant is all the rave right now in Summerville. We went on a Saturday at 2pm and the place was still overflowing with people. So much so that they sat us in a small corner in the bar area. Not my preferred choice to sit especially when the table wobbles back and forth. Service: The service was above average in that the bar tender went out of her way to make sure we were having a good experience. Our drinks were always full and she checked up on us often. Food: I have to say that overall I am somewhat disappointed with the food experience. I had the house specialty omelet which was good but quite greasy and didn't have enough zucchini and mushrooms that I so longed for. The potatoes were your average Denny's style potatoes with extra grease. My wife had the French toast which was a giant loaf of bread that is fried an covered with a peach marmalade/syrup. It's definitely not your typical french toast and it lacked in curb appeal and flavor. We also ordered mimosas which were perfectly made. Overall: Due to the un impressiveness of the cuisine we will not be returning.

Enjoyed the breakfast. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I ordered the shrimp and grits.. it was flavorful. I wasn't a fan of the big sliced sauage.. and that's just personal preference.

My husband and I stopped in for lunch as first time customers and thought by the appearance it would be great...boy were we wrong! Our lunch was not good at all and the food was generic. We ended up sending the chicken strips back because they were like rubber, got those taken off the bill. He wouldn't even order anything else for lunch. The service was good, the tea was good BUT the food ruins the place. Very dissapointed and will not go back.

    (2)
  • Sky M.

  • Becky B.

I was extremely disappointed when I took my friends from Ohio here. The food was overpriced and nothing special. I thought the mimosas would make up for the sub par menu, unfortunately those too ended up being a disappointment. Spend your money elsewhere :(.

  • Avis F.

    (2)
  • Calvin L.

  • Michael R.

    (2)
  • Sky M.

  • Nicole N.

My husband and I have been here several times. Very Satisfactory experience. We enjoy sitting at the bar. James, the bartender, was pleasant, eager to please, and attentive. Very affordable bar fare. Love the loaded shrimp and grits. Great quesadilla.

We went here for breakfast and no other words can explain, but it sucked. we are not the complaining type. The food was awful. Over priced. Eggs Benedict bland, no flavor. Home fries are clearly frozen same with sausage. Will never go again.

Had dinner last night with my husband. I had the grilled meatloaf with mixed veggies and it was wonderful. Our bartender Jason was very nice and inviting. We wish him well on his journey towards his Masters Degree.

This place has been recommended to me multiple times and I finally tried it. It's a small place great for brunch or lunch. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating which is a nice option. The menu choices varied a lot more than I thought they would so I was pleasantly surprised. Overall it was a good experience.

Went to Toast for the first time and was extremely pleased! Food was very good and the service was great. Sat at the bar and the bartender Donna was awesome...very friendly very accommodating and made us feel at home. Will definitely come back to visit her again!

We went in for Sunday Brunch and waited an hour for a table. They didn't seem that busy. After being seated, we waited another 45 min for our food which was very good. Staff are very genuine and helpful, but slow. This place could rock if they could speed things up without sacrificing quality

  • Becky B.

  • Chris D.

I was extremely disappointed when I took my friends from Ohio here. The food was overpriced and nothing special. I thought the mimosas would make up for the sub par menu, unfortunately those too ended up being a disappointment. Spend your money elsewhere :(.
