The last time I went here was for a friend's birthday. They got orders wrong, destroyed the birthday cake I had them hold in the kitchen, and we found a rubber band in the salsa!!! Then they were very rude when we complained about everything! Never going here again!

I love Mexican food in (almost) every shape and form. If you read the previous sentence before I went to La Ha in Summerville, the sentence would have read, I love Mexican food in every shape and form. Not sure what they're doing at this one but I've been in there multiple times and it's been below-average. Menu is the same as every other one in America, service is about the same, but it just leaves me wishing I stayed in and grilled out.

This could some of the worst Mexican food I have ever had. The service was friendly but the food was presented in an unappetizing manner. When I tasted it, it wasn't much better. I will not be going back.

The few times I've been there the service was above average and the food was quick, hot and good. You have to remember that this is SC, so Mexican food won't be as good as let's say in CA, so I graded on a curve. All in all the overall experience would have me return again.

I just moved to the area from Southern California and decided to give La Hacienda my first experience with Mexican food in South Carolina. I was severely disappointed. I'm giving it two stars as a favor. If I were in SoCal, this place would have been out of business within weeks of opening. The decor and layout of the restaurant was nice, the waiters were friendly and helpful and my hopes were high. The first demerit came with the chips and salsa. This is usually a good indicator of the quality of the restaurant. The chips were decent, but nothing special. The salsa seemed to be a tomato puree spiked with a hot sauce. I can't quite put my finger on which sauce, but it's certainly familiar. My hopes were slightly adjusted after this. The second demerit reared its face as I scanned the menu for something to try. They had a number of dishes with mushrooms and vegetables. When was the last time you saw a Mexican dish with mushrooms? When was the last time you saw a Mexican eat a mushroom? When did broccoli make it's way south of the border? I am confused. I even asked my waiter who was a little confused by my question. The third demerit: my waiter's recommendation. I asked the waiter what his favorite dish was. He replied, "Everything on the menu. Almost." Okay, so he's pushing his restaurant's offerings. Fine. So insist on him giving more direction than that. He tells me the Texas fajitas are really good. How could a Mexican restaurant's best dish be Texas fajitas? What are Texas fajitas? The fourth demerit: the food. It turns out Texas fajitas have steak, chicken and shrimp - mixed together. It sounded good enough and I thought I would give it a go since my Mexican waiter thought it was the best dish on the menu. It arrived with beans, rice, three tortillas wrapped in foil, and a tortilla bowl with lettuce, guacamole, sour cream and tomatoes. The meat was on a separate skillet, sizzling as it should be, with onions, green bell peppers, and red bell peppers. The coloring and presentation was very nice. I tried the beans and rice first. They were spot on and my hopes were rejuvenated. Then I built my first fajita and it was downhill from there. As I ate it, the most flavor came from the little charred ends of the onions and peppers. I finished that fajita and was a bit confused. How could it look so good, but not taste like anything? So I started trying each component on its own. Here's the break down on the meal: Beans: A bit more runny than I like to see, but very tasty. Rice: Nice and simple. Tortillas: Tasted like bargain-store-bought tortillas. Guacamole: Sparse and very little flavor. Shrimp: Decent. It has a touch of seasoning and was done well. Chicken: Tasteless. Pretty, but no flavor whatsoever. It had texture as though it had been cooked on a George Foreman grill and then thrown on with the rest of the mix to get the seasoned look. Steak: I struggle to even call it that after eating it. Trying to figure out what was wrong with it, I ate several pieces without anything else. It tasted like roast beef. I even asked my waiter and he gave a sort of smirk and shrug with a look that told me I had figured out some secret. Maybe fajitas are not a fair judgment of a Mexican restaurant, but a Mexican waiter told me they were the best thing on the menu. If they can screw up fajitas this bad, they won't be getting a shot to show me what they can do with a chile relleno.

The food is good, we've had better. The restaurant is crowded and dark. The waitstaff is friendly and the pries are fair. There's room for improvement. The La Hacienda in North Charleston is better.

I just moved to Summerville from Savannah, GA. My family and I were craving good mexican food & thought we would try this restaurant. The waitstaff was friendly and courteous. The food quality & portions were average. If you are looking for average mexican food - this is the place for you!

Food was really good! Place looks dingy and customer service was terrible! We were sitting for 10 min before chips and salsa were served then they never refilled my cup I drank all of my water about half way through my meal and never was offered a refill! It was about 9.00 dollars a plate on average but to be honest it's not worth it I'd try another restaurant in the area

Returned my cold good they brought to me. The waiter got smart with me so I told the manager who did nothing about it. The manager didn't even apologize for the horrible service. I will not go back there ever again

Enjoy this place after the gym or out with friends on the weekend. Great food and nice prices. Try the Green Iguana margarita.

This is your standard Mexican fare. As in, i go in and order an entree of something pasty, mushy, and/or liquidy to follow the best part of the meal which is the free tortilla chips. My boyfriend and I agreed that la hacienda's tortilla game is strong- they have a fresh roasted corn chip flavor. Their queso is also very good and the best part was actually not the tortillas but the Santa-Fe guacamole. Which is made table side, while I'm not all for this show off style of table side food preparation the waiter asks if you want everything in it- tomatoes, onions, cilantro, black beans, corn, jalapeño, lime, idk what else I just said yes and watched him work the magic. This was a new item on the menu, and I will order this next time as my meal. For the entree, I ordered the verde quesadilla with bean (the requisite Mexican mush!!) - it came with rice had a off, kind of envelope glue taste that could hardly be masked when I mixed in the queso or guac. I assumed because I ordered the VERDE quesadilla, verde meaning green, it would come with reasonable vegetable side. Negative. The little side salad it came had pink tomatoes and iceberg lettuce that wasn't really green either, though this could have been the lighting. I had two days worth of fresh guacamole so my verde sat in its little tostada bowl, and I enjoyed the quesadilla with the guac. Another time I came here and ordered camarrones el Diablo (liquid). And it came in a giant margarita cup. I liked the shrimp, the Diablo sauce, while spicey, was equally sweet, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped I would, this is just because I prefer salty/spicy/savory to sweet.

We love Mexican food, and since leaving the West Coast almost a decade ago, we've been on the constant search for good Mexican food... When it comes to La Hacienda, we usually frequent their location by Tanger. This time, we stayed closer to home and visited their Main St Summerville location (don't get me started on the Dorchester are locale, which I avoid like Disneyland in the middle of a measles epidemic!). We were sat immediately in a booth, the last occupants must have been giants, there was at least 2ft of empty space between the table and the seat backs. We had to scoot the bench seats closer to be able to eat comfortably. Our server was friendly, and as is the norm, chips and salsa arrived prior to her appearance. My kids each ordered cheese quesadillas with rice, both of which they ate (that's saying something right?!). My husband had the Hawaiian Tacos which were very tasty and a little on the spicy side (we also enjoyed the typo on the menu that said they came with chucks of pineapple). I had the Poblano Combo, a steak with chile expected a skirt steak, like I would have received with Carne Asada, but it was a thin ribeye, and it was delicious! The highlight of the meal was when our nearly 2yo son ran off to hang out with the staff and wanted them to hold him. When the manager brought him back, our 4.5yo son proclaimed that "she is really pretty...man, she's hot!" Before leaving, he waved her over to our table and told her "I think you're hot!" then he proceeded to giggle and hyperventilate. Lucky for him, he's still got a few years to work on that game.

I have been twice and both times I liked my food. Service was ok- friendly but took FOREVER to get our check at the end. Cinco de Mayo is fun there. Nothing to rave about.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
