Amazing service and the wait staff is very quick and courtesy! The chips and salsa are always brought out immediately and the margaritas and beer are always frosty cold. Fresh tortillas and if you want an extra bite try the tomatillo salsa. We always go, have a great experience and walk away full for less than other comparable restaurants. Frequent specials and the ability to order from the lunch menu anytime makes this plus their military discount one of my favorite places!

You know what? I'm going to jump the four stars and put this one at a five. Why you might ask? 1. The food was better than the times I've been before. Steaming hot, and the Arroz con Pollo was better than any place I've tried in town (and I try it at every place to compare..) 2. Their service was without a doubt, top notch. Fantastic people. 3. Their beer menu contained a few that I like that aren't prevalent at many other spots. Mainly Pacifico and Bohemia. Love them. 4. If you are having a drink or two, they often pass around complementary shots of tequila. (In our case, two!) All in all, this will be my Mexican spot in town!

One of the best Mexican restaurants in Charleston! Its in a strip of random stores and overshadowed by Dog and Duck, but it's actually really tasty. The shrimp and scallops is so good, as well as almost every combination plate I have tried. They make their margaritas strong and a lot of times if the waiter likes your table, they bring u free shots, they're super friendly!

Its close to the house, so we go here quite a bit with the kiddos. It is ok. Ambiance is alright. They just added a side deck and some tables outside. Inside is the typical mexi restaurant. The food is the normal mexi you find in every other mexi place - order by number combo pretty much. The food is ok. Nothing outstanding or fantastic, personally I dont think there is much of a flavor to anything they serve, but like i said, close to the house and the kids like it, so we go pretty often. The margaritas are really good, the service is very good. great kids menu.

Decent Mexican food. If it's your birthday they'll sing and give you free fried ice cream. Good service and drinks the size of your average fishbowl.

-waiter was really nice. -margarita was too sweet (as like all the rest of the Mexican places around here) but only $5 for a huge one. -queso app was really big and good -complementary salsa was too spicy -veggie taco salad tasted good but was very watery

I haven't had La Carreta in such a long time. This time around was really interesting. So I come here with my family whom I haven't seen in 2 1/2 months and expected just a normal experience. The manager came to greet our table which was appreciated and had a mariachi band play a song for our table which was super nice. Talented individuals as well. Then we had this waiter come to our table and started flirting with my sister in front of my family. I asked for our waiter then he went away. A couple minutes later this guy returns but this time pulls up a chair to the table. I had enough at this time and I stood up and I pulled him aside and told him that I wanted him to leave since I haven't seen my family in 2 1/2 months. I told him if he wanted to speak to my sister to do it another time. He finally leaves us alone. Anyways I ordered the chicken mole from here. It was literally the best chicken mole I've had in Summerville! The flavor was on point and I highly recommend it. However the portion and the price sucks. I forgot exactly how much the dish was but the portion was small for the price which I was highly disappointed about. So we're about to leave and the manager gives my niece a teddy bear which was really nice of him and I greatly appreciate it. As I stand up, the waiter that was hitting on my sister was staring our table down! Not cool. Pros: the chicken mole, the new outside seating area, mariachi band, super friendly staff Cons: the portion, that waiter inviting himself to the table.

Very good service, and food was served Hot. I have been here many times with my family, and have never been disappointed. The Steak Fajitas were very fresh, and the portions were more than adequate. La Carreta will accommodate your taste in fresh salsa as well. I prefer HOT, and they delivered with a Habanero Salsa. The servers work together and do a superb job. We will definitely be return customers! Look for your coupons in the Summerville Smart Shopper!

Eh, this place wasn't exactly bad, but it definitely wasn't that great. Service was fine but the food left a little to be desired. Chips and salsa felt store bought. Added some cheese dip which was decent. Entrees were ok, but I don't enjoy paying that much for ok, when there are better places nearby. Margarita was WAY too sweet. Syrupy almost. Want a quick Mexican bite to eat if you're in the area? fine. Have 5 minutes to drive down the road...do it.

Decent Food, Great service. Good Prices. Food: Ive had: Seafood Burrito: (has scallops, shrimp, & fake crab. It was a little fishy. Cooked well & good sauce) Enchilada Verdes: (a little dry, flavor is mild & chicken is tender) Conclusion: C- Atmosphere: Quiet for a Mexican restaurant. Typical cultural decor Service: Fast, Nice, Friendly. THEY WERE PASSING OUT FREE SHOTS OF TEQUILA! Holla! Conclusion: Id come here again if I am in Ladson because there are not that many options.

We live close to La Carreta and eat here every so often. It's not our favorite Mexican food restaurant in the area and I was reminded why today. The food was not great. The place is very inconsistent. Sometimes the food is good, sometimes bad. My taco shell was stale, the burrito was just 'ok'. The meat was not seasoned well and everything seemed to taste like leftovers. It's sad really, as previously stated, sometimes we have good meals here. Señor Tequila is much better.

Friendly, fast service this Tex-Mex style restaurant offers you plenty of choices on the menu and drink list. I love the outdoor seating in the evening while enjoying chips, dips, and a margarita. Reasonably priced, food is always hot and tasty. Pretty good salsa better than the average Mexican eatery. Family friendly and within walking distance for most of the residents on Trolley so eat, drink, and be merry! (Then walk home)

The restaurant was clean and neat. My wife and enjoyed the chips and salsa, not sure what other reviewers were complaining about. The service was just, not overbearing but made sure we received timely refills, etc. The food was good and was more reasonably priced than other Summerville area Mexican restaurants.

Service was a bit better than okay but nothing outstanding, I had the chili verde and it was delicious but for some reason came with a large bone which was no good :( Much better than I thought it would be plus they give you a generous portion of chips and salsa. So if you are looking for really good mexican food with sub par service, this is the place to go just watch for bones :)

Great margaritas, chips and salsa are sub par. However, they had a really flavorful hot salsa.

The service was the main drawback here. We came in an hour and 15 minutes before closing time and the waitress rushed us through our dinner, complaining she didn't have a babysitter. So, that kind of put a damper on our evening out. I ordered El Especial, but realized later ( I guess I didn't notice at the time, because I was being RUSHED through my dinner) that they hadn't put the chili rellenos (sp?) on my plate. I was also disappointed the waitress had no idea what we were talking about when we asked for churros and they weren't on the menu...first time I've had that happen in a Mexican restaurant. Also, I especially wanted the tres leches cake which I saw on an online menu, but they didn't have it on the actual restaurant menu.. all in all, the food was just so so, service sucked. Prices are good if you don't mind so so food and lousy service. You could do better at Margaritas on N. Main Street.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
