Two stars for quantity, but not quality You unwashed heathens You barbaric whoremongers of fine ale You sadistic, self righteous, mustachioed mockeries of what true beer pullers are supposed to be Two stars, and with hesitation For you pretentious lugs You terminally grievous stout splatterers You uneducated ululators of false beer gods You horror shows of hops, who make growlers growl and kegs cry out for justice You shorted me on a proper pour Had that head been only one inch All might be forgiven But it was more than an inch The head was tall as the days are long It spanned time and space and the very question of WHY The head dominated like the Andy Griffith theme song dominates your consciousness right now because I brought it up just now The head was easily half the beer And the beer didn't even fill the glass. I brought this to your attention at that time. The resounding 'Meh.' that uttered forth from your think hole could've filled a Brazilian soccer stadium. That is, if your bar staff were capable of filling anything correctly. You get two stars. Barely.

The Hubs and I finally got a chance to try Homegrown last night. It was OK, but just OK. They have a great selection of microbrews on tap, as well as a giant printed beer menu full of wonderful and interesting brews from around the world. I ordered an IPA, the Hubs got a Stout, both of them drafts. They were yummy, and we enjoyed them quite a bit. Sadly that is sort of where the good part ends. They have a VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY (did I say very?) limited menu consisting of a pretzel, pizza by the slice, and a random cupcake baked by the shop next door. I really feel that perhaps they should invest in a small kitchen and a chef, because in order to drink more than one glass of specialty beer, which are usually much higher in alcohol than American Lagers, people need more than a pretzel, slice of pizza, or a cupcake. I found there was no warmth or ambiance at all in the "dining room", or perhaps it's simply a "tap room"-I am not sure. As well the service was a bit cool at first, and very off-putting. If you go to Homegrown Brewhouse, keep in mind that you will need to stop off before, or after, someplace else for a meal. For me, though, there are lots of Tap rooms in the Charleston area that also have great food. Even though Homegrown has a great selection of beers, that is not enough to draw me back. After all I can go to lots of places for great beer, but it's the great food that keeps me coming back!!!

When you walk in the first thing you notice is the huge chalkboard that's behind the bar that displays everything from the beers on tap to the nights specials in colorful chalk designs. Once we grabbed a seat at the bar, we were in awe of the 40 craft brews all on tap and almost all of which are from South Carolina. Their menu was easy to follow separating beers by style (wheat, pale ales, etc.). We didn't get a chance to try the food, but they did have a few items provided by a local bakery and from what we could see, it looked pretty good. What really set this bar apart for us (and made us wish we lived closer) was their weekly specials. On Mondays they currently offer a $5 flight consisting of 4/4oz beers. Of all the places we've been to, this is probably one of the best deals we have ever seen for a flight of beer. On Fridays, they get their new set of kegs. Therefore, every Thursday, they do a "Kick The Keg" event where they have specials on certain beers in hopes to finish off the old kegs to make room for the new ones coming in the next day. A glass will cost you $3 and a growler fill runs for $12. Overall, the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about each of the beers. If you're unsure what to get, just ask one of the bartenders and they'll steer you in the right direction like they did for us. In addition to really knowing their stuff, they really know how to perfectly pour their beer so there's just a touch of foam and its filled right to the top. With all that, we will definitely be stopping back the next time we are back down south to just hang out and drink a few more craft brews.

Went in on a Saturday afternoon and we had the place to ourselves. Westbrook Gose was on draft, which is always a winner in my book!! Prices are very reasonable and the staff was super friendly! I have a feeling that we will be regulars before long.

First, let me say this place gets a 5 star for the beer selection. Hands down the best menu you will find in Sville. You seriously get a clipboard with a short novel of beer selections, broken down by type, and then column-ized (is that a word?) by name, brewery, type, ABV, and price. No shortage of anything for the beer aficionado here. For service, the first time I was in, the girl working the bar I don't think knew Busch Light from what she was pouring. In another circumstance, that may be fine, but coming into a place that prides itself on its craft selections, I would have hoped that the people working knew everything short of the atomic weight of the bubbles in the foam. Now THAT being said, I was in again, and the service this time was amazing. The waitress knew and could talk about almost everything we asked on the menu, and called another guy over to help when she didn't know the answer to a question. For added bonus points (and tip) the guy gave me a growler cap to replace my lost one (this was going to the back twice for the right ounce size, and the growler I had was not originally from there). This-was good service! The only thing I don't like about the place is something I can't really put my finger on. It's like the place needs something. I would say some music, but there was something faintly playing Saturday, and it wasn't doing it. Like I said, if this elusive thing could be figured out, I think Homegrown really has something going for it. They also do several weeknight events that usually involve new, obscure, or limited batch cask tastings. For example, around St. Paddy's Day, they had a Lucky Charms infused beer. Be sure to sign up for their email newsletter!

Wow! Really liked this place! Lots of great beers on tap. We tried a few beers and relaxed for a while. Also ordered some appetizers which were very good. Prices were right and the service was wonderful! Wish they had one on Daniel Island! We'll be back!

I've been to innumerable tap rooms. Having a chalk board and dozens of taps is a solid start; unfortunately it is a sour finish. The service is more than slow, it is purposefully inattentive for the non Summerville native. That is a shame in a town that is definitely up and coming. New competition in this venue will blow this joint away.

Homegrown is such a great place to go and have a drink. Atmosphere is real nice and relaxed and they're constantly getting new stuff. Every to on tap will be mostly local and Caleb loves sours so he always keeps a nice selection of bottled stuff as well. He is the man.

I came here with my brother-in-law and sister. They love this place and I can see why. Settled in downtown Summerville, this place is welcoming, diverse, and extraordinarily knowledgeable. I tried the feature flight which consisted of five 4oz pours of various pumpkin-infused beer/ale/lager. I don't usually drink beer but it was an interesting experience and I enjoyed trying something new! They don't cook any food there but they do have baked pretzels that are served with either mustard or beer cheese. I HIGHLY recommend the beer cheese. It paired so well with the beer that all I wanted to do was take a bite of pretzel, drink beer, and repeat. Take advantage of this spot and I hope to see it thrive. I will definitely return next time I'm in town!!

Finally!!! So glad a place with solid choice of craft brews, that's not too far from where I live! I like that they have predominantly SC crafts, with a few special "outsiders" in the line up. The fact that they serve the brews in the correct glass, shows they are all about quality, as well as quantity. The folks working are extremely knowledgeable about their product and are very nice. I could have sat in there for hours. I also like that they offer 4oz samples, 12oz pours, bottles (for some), and 64oz growler fills. Just wish they were closer to me, like in my backyard.

If you're looking for football on big screen tvs and a typical bar atmosphere, this is not the place. But if you're looking for a huge local craft beer selection, and a place that's passionate about its beer then you've stumbled upon a diamond! The owner is like a walking encyclopedia of beer! I am not a beer drinker but Caleb (the owner) was able to direct me to a choice that would suit my tastes. Even better, you can taste the beer before you decide, AND you can get a small glass. I wish there were more more food options, so plan on eating before or after a visit...but if you're in Summerville, plan a visit!

Pretty cool place with a huge beer selection. I liked the moderness/chilled out vibe of the place. Only come here if you're in the mood for beer though, no entrees, just small apps, which was fine by me. I would definitely go there again.

I would just like to preface this review with the fact that this establishment is NOT a restaurant. They have such a great selection of microbrews and the staff is knowledgable on all their beer. They will help you order something you enjoy by finding similarities in their selection of craft beer. It gets a bit crowded on the weekends, for a more personal experience I recommend stopping by on a weekday. If you don't mind the crowds it's fun to bring a large group to enjoy tasty beer and delicious pretzels with beer cheese!

This is a unique beer destination in Summerville that houses one of the largest local beer line-ups in the region. If more bars supported local beers like this, we could double the amount of breweries in our town.

Amazing place! We love it! Lengthy selection of craft beers (mostly on tap) from all of the local breweries, and throughout the state. Owner is always there--very friendly and very helpful with selecting from the long list of beers!! He is sure to visit with all the patrons and make sure your enjoying yourself. The atmosphere is awesome (no tv's, just beer and good company). Oh, and a bit of food with homemade pretzels and cupcakes from the next door bakery, and pizza from Famulari's. Highly recommend it for beer lovers, and supporting local!

I've been to Homegrown Brewhouse at least 10 times since they opened a few months ago, and I can't even drink right now...I'm 8 months pregnant! Still, I have had a fabulous time every time my husband and I go, no matter who we are with or what day of the week it is. The atmosphere is great - no smoking (I don't think you can smoke in bars in Summerville anymore anyway, but it's still refreshing to walk into a bar that doesn't have that "smokey" feel), very clean, minimalist lighting, fixtures, tables, and seating. It's never too loud, always comfortable, and the owner SERIOUSLY knows his stuff. He's what I'd call a "beer genius," but is very open and offers his knowledge and expertise without pretentiousness. I can't recommend any of the 40+ locally brewed options quite yet (ask me again in a few months) but I can vouch for their incredible root beer floats and pretzels from next door's Hummingbird Cafe. So good! My husband has done various flight samplers and loved most of the beers he has tried here, and brings home a growler once a week or so of some new beer he hasn't tried before, recommended to him based on his likes from the owner, Caleb. We will be going to Homegrown Brewhouse for years, and are so glad it's here in town! :)

Stopped here to visit friends and was so pleasantly surprised with the beer selection and the service. To top it off there's also a pretzel to die for! Definitely worth the visit and makes me sad I don't live closer to be a regular here.

Good selection of beers. They have pizza and nibbles that come in from third parties. Would enjoy it more if they had better options for food. The ambiance is very lacking too. I can go and get beer, order pizza and stay at the house. Hope it finds its way.

While at home and searching for a nice place to get a drink or two, I happened to learn about Homegrown Brewhouse by chance, and managed to rope a friend into checking the place out. Our first visit the other night was pretty quiet, as there weren't too many folks around, but it made for a cozy atmosphere. The staff was very professional and inviting. I wish I had had more of an opportunity to sample more beers from their large selection, but I suppose that's what future visits are for. The option to get 4oz samples of beers on tap might be what drew me in the most, as that allows one to easily sample a variety of beers, then hone in on which ones you want a 12oz pour of. I can definitely see myself visiting here more with my friends in the future!

Fantastic place in a very unassuming spot in Summerville, SC. The beer selection is great, an the staff is friendly and helpful. The greatest part about the place is that they support local breweries an are reasonably priced. If you're in the charleston area, this is a must!

I have visited 5 times now. This place only serves local craft beers and it is wonderful. They are up tto 40 taps now but the owner wants more than 100 taps. You can buy 4oz. samples of 99% of what they sell. Try them all. The atmosphere is nice to sit and talk with friends.
