We have lived here a little over a year now and this is by far the best Italian food we have found in the area. We have been spoiled with excellent Italian in our previous home (Las Vegas), so to find a place that is close to on par with our favorite places in Vegas is great. The special I had with ravioli, chicken parm and fettuccine alfredo was prepared perfectly....great flavor and not over-seasoned. Also, our service was excellent which is something we always look for when deciding whether or not to return to a place. If you haven't already, give this place a try.

Incredible food and services! I was pleasantly surprised. Since I am here only for the weekend. If I ever return to South Carolina I will definitely stop here again for a meal.

Cant say enough great things about this place!!! The ambiance is perfect for a nice romantic dinner or friends and family group dinner. Nice, easy lighting, ivy on the walls, and most nights there someone there playing the piano. So very nice here. The service is impeccable. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable about the dishes and the wines. The entrees are large portions, most of them big enough to share. The oil and herb mix that they serve with the bread is out of this world good. I know that sounds strange to say about the same old oil dip that they give at every Italian restaurant, but NO .... this one is so good, we (along with another couple that was not with us) asked the server for the recipe of what they mix in the oil. And he gave it to us!!! It is so savory and good. DROOL. Also great appetizer is the Calimari Fritti, Brushchetta, and the Caprese. They honestly dont have anything here that I havent liked!!! If you cant figure out which delicious dish to choose - I recommend the Lasagne, the Veal, the shrimp alfredo and my absolute favorite - the Mare e Monti!!! Chicken and shrimp in pesto sauce with garlic and peppers - I have asked them to substitute a marinara sauce for the pesto - and either way its delicious!!! As for the wine - you MUST try the 'Judas Blood' wine. a nice, light slightly bubbly red wine, it is a fantabulous pairing with any of the dishes. And believe me we have tried just about every single one there. This is a great little gem in downtown Summerville. Authentic and delicious Italian.

So this place was eh. Our appatizer was AMAZING we had fried mozzarella and bruschetta and they were so good and fresh so I was excited about our meals to come. Well dissapointment set in when it took forever to get our meals and there was only 1 other couple in there at the time. Our food arrived and my husband didn't get what he ordered. We didn't say anything because we had already waiting long enough. He said he'd eat it anyways. I got dish, I can't remember the name of it but basically it was supposed to be a spicy Marana sauce on spaghetti. My noodles were way over cooked and the sauce was definitely spicey but not in a good way. Overall I wasn't too impressed. I'd defenately go back for an appatizer but not the overcooked pasta. We learned as we were leaving they were closing this location and moving in with an Italian place down the road. Maybe that's why our food wasn't the best since they were closing.

Great food and atmosphere. Very authentic only a few of the staff can speak English but that makes it cool for me. Very happy that Summerville finally has a great little place to eat good Italian food.

Nice, warm atmosphere that was almost concerning given it was lunchtime and empty (1st strike). The (aesthetics) visual appeal of the chicken cacciatore was unimpressive and the taste matched it (2nd strike). Nevertheless, the dish was edible and I was hungry but if it was brighter I might have noticed the chicken was undercooked (3rd strike) and made me sick with vomiting and diarrhea for 2 days. Day 3 and I'm still on a diet of bread and water. Rethinking this experience just makes me nauseated. Do I have to give any stars?

I had a first date planned for a Sunday in Summerville. I love picking restaurants, plus I know the area better, so I was tasked (took over!) with finding a spot to dine. Well guess what folks? MANY restaurants are closed on Sunday, ESPECIALLY in Summerville! It worked to my favor though because that's what led us to Alessandra's. First off, the ambience was perfect for a date! Lower lighting, very relaxing background music, romantic without being overly so. Too romantic would be awkward for a first date! I was actually complimented on my choice of restaurant because it was perfectly low key after a hectic day. The service and staff was personable and engaging without being intrusive. Besides thoroughly enjoying the company of my date, I also enjoyed our interactions with the employees of Alessandra's. We were served complimentary bread and dipping oil that had herbs. It was okay. Nothing to write home about but certainly no complaints. My date seemed to enjoy his meal. I'm not 100% certain what he ordered but it had clams, linguine and red sauce. I ordered the vodka alla penne and added chicken. It was delicious!!! Of course being a first date, I had to be ladylike but I so wanted to stuff my face full! I refrained. But shortly after getting home, I wanted nothing more than to finish the food off. Alas my hungry child awaited me. She'd had dinner, but she's a growing teen with a voracious appetite. I was THISCLOSE to eating it myself and making her a PB&J but the guilt kicked in and I let her have the rest (except a bite or two!!). At least she doesn't like mushrooms so I ate all of those before reluctantly letting her claim my leftovers. She really enjoyed the food as well! I look forward to returning to Alessandra's soon.

Great seafood antipasto and bread. Service started out great but soon deteriorated. It took forever to get our meals because the couple who run the restaurant were fighting in the kitchen (loudly). Really embarrassed that I recommended this restaurant to my family. Would not recommend.

So glad we found this little place in downtown Summerville. Went for dinner on a rainy weekday night and only a few other people were there. Waiter was attentive, and the food was really good. Good portion sizes too. We also got a piece of tiramisu to share and it was delicious

Found this place via yelp... and was ehhh not exactly impressed. Love the location but hard to find definetly a local spot. Cute outdoor seating.. place was small and we didnt have reservation nor did it say to make sure you make a reservation but whatever. We got a table in a high traffice area.. the place has a piano player which is nice but i feel uneeded for a such a small space and honestly costing them money when they could add more tables and make more money honestly. I ordered the Chicken Limone it was alright the servings are not enough for a $16.00 plate but whatever.. it was over all good but was eaten instanlty as the servings were small. Overall not exactly impressed nor did I have a bad time there just was ok. Will I be back I dont know not anytime soon thats for sure.

Not going back. We were the only ones there for lunch and the food still took a long time to come out. Eggplant parmigiano was awful. The sauce tasted like spaghetti o's. The only good thing, the waitress was really nice and apologied.

What a hidden gem in the corner of downtown Summerville. This was our 3rd time here and it was amazing! great italian wine, calamari is light and golden brown , the pasta is cooked perfectly and the dessert was sooooooo good! The portions are huge too. The service is outstanding, friendly and prompt. I had a pasta dish that had broccoli rabe, sausage and a delicious tomato sauce. It was cooked perfect! My husband had the seafood pasta which was loaded with shellfish. The bread was warm and the olive oil blend for dipping is perfect with that glass of vino. A GREAT casual but romantic little jewel to come to any night. The piano player "Tony" is a hoot and very talented.....an art that you don't hear often and should be appreciated. A must go-to!!!!!!!!!!

Cut little spot in Summerville off the beaten path. Small, quaint interior -- good spot for a business lunch. Fairly extensive menu with lots of pasta selections. A little light on the salad options. Went with a trio appetizer with bruschetta, calamari and caprese salad. All very good, and a TON of food. My little light lunch turned out to be pretty heavy. And now I lay me down to sleep.

Excellent service, excellent food and a great location right in the heart of downtown Summerville. This was our first experience there and we came away more than pleased. our server was extremely knowledgeable of the dinner selections on the menu and the numerous wines offered as well. This will be a restaurant to add to the regular schedule of dining out.

I can't rave enough about this place. The service was impeccable, the food was great. We ordered drinks, appetizers, and entrees and they were perfectly spread out. The servings are big, I had the perfect amount to take to work for lunch. Our waitress was super friendly, the guy on the piano was great, and the chef even stopped by the table to make sure we liked everything. Check this place out. It's not to be missed!

Best Italian in Summeville! I have had a little of everything here. I like the calazone, pizza and there is a Lemon Chicken dish that is very good! Service is good. Only knock on this place was that their salads are super cheap but overall this place offers great value.

En route to the Summerville Christmas Parade today, decided to sit down and try this restaurant while enjoying the wait. Ordered appetizer of Bruschetta and a 10" margherita pizza. From the time the sliced bread and oil arrived I was sold. Tasty, friendly service, real down home feeling to the place. Food came out fast and it was seasoned perfectly. I can't wait to go back and try some wine and an entree. This could easily become my favorite Italian restaurant in the area.

Great newly discovered gem. While it's a little hidden, we tried it on the recommendation of a friend. Server was very attentive, bread & oil delicious and our entrees were great. Prices were very reasonable and we were very happy to find a great locally owned Italian restaurant. We will be back again.

This is in my top two favorite low-country italian restaurants and I can't believe I haven't yelped it till today! I was just reading an article that features this place in the paper ~ great for them! I guess it's not a local secret anymoe, especially since we haven't seen the coupons for free bottle of wine, ect in the paper lately! That was always a great deal but I go for the delicious food in a nice setting anyway. I usually order the cheese ravioli - simple but SO GOOD! I'm so picky about sauces, if it's too sweet, too thick, or too-wineish then forget it! Their marinara sauce is perfect for me! Can't do without the calamari, it's another thing I'm really picky about and I love it here. Haven't tried the pizza yet ~ but it looks like something I would like (thin crust, crispy, topings dolloped on. It's on my to try list) The indoor seating is a little close so I prefer sitting outside (on quaint short central with the dog!). Service always great, and there is a pianist inside that provides smooth background standards.

I will give this place one star only because of the atmosphere. The service was horrible. Took forever to get drink and food order in. The food was awful my 9 year old can cook better food. The customer service also is awful. Would not recommend my dog to eat here.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
