The location is in a rundown shopping center but the inside is nice and clean. Wasabi is now on the top of my list, as far as sushi spots in Spartanburg. These past two weeks just confirmed it. Katsuo prides himself on his fish and it's freshness. Such a huge difference freshness makes.

A hidden gem, even for those skeptical about sushi. Menu is huge with something for everyone. The adventuresome diner or newbie can find something to fit their taste. I was not expecting such a fine meal at this obscure location. Bar dining unique, wait staff friendly and patient. Lots of specials reasonably priced. My recommendation is to choose a variety of rolls for everybody to share. Ambience casual. Good choice for romantic date night. I'll be back.

Wasabi was the worst Japanese / sushi restaurant we have ever visited. My daughter is gluten free so I called and asked if they could prepare entrees with gluten free soy sauce. I was told that they had gf soy sauce and they could accommodate, so we made the drive. We attempted to order fried rice prepared as such, but were told that the fried rice is premade with regular soy sauce. They did, however, provide a bottle if gf soy sauce for the white rice, which was the only thing she could have on the menu. It took an hour and 10 minutes to get a rainbow roll that was slimy with old avocado. The slices of fish on the roll were so thin they were almost nonexistent. The service was extremely slow, though they weren't busy. I thought they had forgotten about us. They do not have a kids menu either. Save your money and your time and go somewhere else.

In town on business and stumbled across this place, and let me tell you I couldn't be more happy that I did. I met the chef and owner, his name is Kudzu (like the plant he claims) and he was so down to earth and knowledgable. I learned as well as got my fill on real sushi. By far the best I've been to on my travels for work. Be sure to follow his recommendations and let him take you on a culinary adventure. If you know anything about sushi you will not be disappointed. I felt like I made a friend that invited me into his home for dinner. Stop looking and go here now.

This is absolutely fantastic sushi! Katsu makes supremely delicious sushi. Suggest sitting at the bar if just two of you and ask for chef's special. Katsu will dream up delicious sushi for you. We don't go to any other sushi in Spartanburg or Greenville. Truly authentic. . Our favorite is live scallops in season and you can't go wrong with kanisu or Toro plate. Enjoy!

This is hands down the best sushi in the state. Katsu is truly a master and the first true sushi chef in the upstate. They always have the freshest fish and the best specials that you can't get any where else. The atmosphere is beautiful in a traditional Japanese style. Everyone is very welcoming when you walk in the door. It is a must that you sit at the bar so you can watch master Katsu at work. If you are truly serious about sushi Wasabi is hands your only option, no questions asked. I highly recommend the Toro, bluefin tuna belly, if it is avaliable.

Have been an semi-regular here for a few years now. Consistently very good. The owners go out of their way to recognize regular visitors. Sit at the bar and Katsu will answer all your sushi questions. To see the difference between Wasabi and other places serving sushi in the area, steer clear of the cream cheese / smoked rolls and go for the sashimi or nigiri -- you will be rewarded with really excellent knife work and appreciate the quality of the fish. One exception -- the rainbow roll is really very good.

I really great place to eat. Fresh fish comes in daily and the chef creates wonderful masterpieces with it. Great warm friendly atmosphere

Excellent sushi, very friendly and knowledgable chef and wait staff. The food is fresh and delicious. This is the only sushi restaurant in Spartanburg where you should dine.

Nice décor, good presentation, bad sushi, poor service. The rolls were small and the rice tasted and felt like plain white rice. The spicy tuna wasn't spicy, the Philly roll was overpoweringly smoky. Our shrimp tempura roll was good but only had four very large pieces that were awkward to eat. The sashimi was nothing special. Large dragon roll was the only good item we were served. We won't return, but I've had worse.

SOLID !!! Tried a variety of sushi. Everything was fresh & had a decent variety for where this place is. The baby tako was delicious. My only complaints was that the nigiri was on the small side for the price & the rice, which should be the star of any good sushi place was a tad dry. That being said I would eat here again for sure. Katsu ( the sushi chef) is a good guy & is open to making things as spicy as you want. So this is an update. Just ate here again. Got a phone call saying that they had fresh Uni. AWESOME !!! Who else does that.
