Food and service was fantastic. Enjoyed oysters on the half shell, salad bar, and a New York strip and it was all good. Everything was washed down with a few New Castles. Unfortunately, they don't have any draft beer, but the server said it was "coming soon". The server we had was Casey, she was friendly, playful, and very attentive. The atmosphere was intimate yet casual. I would say totally casual, but it was a pretty dark and fairly quiet setting. I would recommend the place to anyone.

Growing up in Spartanburg, I've always heard that the Peddler was the best/fanciest restaurant in town. I was finally able to check it out recently and I'm not sure what all the hype was about all these years. The salad bar (what nice restaurant gives you a salad bard) had some very cheap looking ingredients including what looked to be vienna sausages. The table and seats felt sticky and the waiters took a minute to come to the table after we sat down. I was just expecting a lot more from this place, but I guarantee you outback or any chain restaurant would give you just as good (if not better) of an experience. I absolutely will never go back to the Peddler again.

Peddlers is a rather interesting steakhouse. It has all the feel of an old time sort of western saloon, but the sort of saloon that has a little too much intimacy. Ambiance aside, this is one of the few unique places to grab a steak in Spartanburg, so it was definitely worth a try. Pros: - The service is extremely unique, they'll cut your meat to order in front of you, and there's no menus. The salad bar occurs before you order, but after drinks and appetizers. - The salad bar has a ton of variety. Cons: - The tables for two are honestly rather uncomfortable. Re-purposed sewing / carpentry (I don't even know what this is) equipment makes for a difficult table to sit at. - Despite the steak having decent marbling, it was a bit under seasoned and slightly tough. The crust was good, but the steak was cooked just a hair over where I asked for it. Everything else: - The salad bar could use more ice, nothing looks bad, it just could look fresher. - The cocktails are a bizarre size. Possibly no larger than a shot, but they only cost $5 or less. So it all sort of makes sense? That being said, this place is rather pricey, but they do a decent job. While not some place I'd go out of my way to return to, if I was near by and wanted a steak this might be my first choice in Spartanburg.

the Peddler is an "old school": classic steak house- the decor is dark wood/vintage metal signs and low lighting- their is no written menu- the waiter offers drinks and describes the salad bar- then a "meatcutter" takes your order with beef being the main offering- they also have pork chops, chicken, fish- they bring a cart and you tell them how big of a cut you would like/temperature - the steak was excellent/very tender coked over real charcoal fire- oysters rockefeller/shrimp cocktail round out the offerings for appetizers- a hald dozen oysters, the salad bar, steak, starch - $50 add a glass of wine and one cocktail and my bill was $58plus tip = $70

Peddler, I am a fan! I eat there almost once a week for lunch (living in Spartanburg right now). Chicken Marsala and Pork Medallions are good. The salad bar is a local favorite, too. If you want to feel like your a Hobbit eating a pub on the Shire, just stop in the Peddler... the atmosphere is fun. Look for Billy Webber - he'll be sitting at a table somewhere for sure, and he's the ultimate fan and host. He'll show you around and make you a new friend in a heartbeat. :)

Decor was too dark and a bit lame. They were out of several dishes and desserts for some reason. The steaks looked really good. The seafood I had was really good and a nice sized portion. This is probably the best eats in town (standards are set a bit lower for the area unfortunately).

Hands down the very BEST! Filet in town. The Peddler reminds me of a secret Hobbitville, right here in Spartanburg.! The salad bar has everything from smoked oysters to 3 types of cheese. Your steak is cut right in front of you. The shrimp cocktail has jumbo shrimp with a killer horseradish cocktail sauce. When you want to have a quality, well prepared steak. .. The Peddler is your place. They pride themselves on quality meat. We've eaten here every week for most of my adult life. It's a GREAT!! place to eat and unwind..Great service all of the way around! It's unique, a bit dark inside, but listening to the laughter is one of my favorite parts of the atmosphere! I enjoy hearing others enjoying themselves. The dress code is dressy..No t-shirts and blue jeans with tennis shoes. I do like that about the dress code. The Peddler also reminds me of, ye old town class.

Some co-workers and myself dropped by there for lunch a few days ago. For the price, the food was high quality as well as the service. The environment is fun and comfortable. We never had to ask for anything because our server was more than accommodating. This past Friday, I dropped by to try their soup and salad bar and was more than satisfied with their selections and service. Never had an opportunity to try their dinner menu, but I was very pleased with the lunch menu.

Oh The Peddler... I wanted so badly to have a great meal here! It was my little baby sister's graduation dinner after all! But sadly, it was pretty disappointing. I came here once when I lived in Spartanburg for 4 years, but I didn't remember anything except for the salad bar. So we arrived late Friday night and even though the place was pretty empty we still had to wait for 15-20 minutes with no real explanation (there were plenty of tables open). I didn't remember how it all worked and we were wondering where the menu was... but they don't have menus. There is the open salad bar which is definitely a nice salad bar (but $9 just for some lettuce?). Then they come around and find out what protein you like (they bring a chunk of meat with them (which happened to be stationed next to my brother, who doesn't eat steak...) to show it off I guess...) so there was a choice of chicken, 2 or 3 kinds of steak, 3 kinds of fish, scallops, and pork. My little sister got the fillet mignon... she deserves it she just graduated from college. I got the scallops, brother and other sister both got the rainbow trout and my Mom got the chicken. With all of that food my Dad just stuck to the salad bar and ate our extras. The only side options were a baked potato, a sweet potato or rice... ummm nothing says extravagant like a dried, overcooked potato... So the result... the fillet was amazing, and the price was too! My grilled scallops were good, not great.. but the smokiness got really old by about the 5th scallop, it needed some kind of sauce or other flavoring. My brother's rainbow trout was almost inedible (I say almost b/c he ate it, but it should have been sent back), it tasted like the chef dumped the entire bottle of seasoning on his fish! It was an embarrassment to send out, but my sister got the same thing and hers was fine... so somebody made a big uh oh and my brother was too nice to call them on it. My Mom's chicken was fine, pretty hard to screw up chicken. All in all, it was not a meal to go out for. Every bit of it we could have cooked at home and probably done a better job and been more innovative with flavors. And with the final price tag at $150 (no drinks, only water!)... it makes you wonder how this place gets repeat diners!

The former owners just bought it back about a month ago! I am so very happy that after 5 years I can finally go back! The meat is way better quality now! If you have not been since July, go back! Meet Heather who is the returning owner. My wife and I are so pleased she is back and look forward to having our family and business's events there like we used to! Best fillet around and pork tenderloin that will knock your socks off! Plus you will have plenty of pork to take home because it is huge! Service is incredible. If you have had a poor experience there in the past 5 years you owe it to yourself to go back and give Heather and her team a chance. You won't be disappointed.

Went here last Friday night with my girlfriend and her family with a 6:30pm reservation. Not bad at all. I got the prime rib 12oz rare, and it was a pretty nice cut and came out bloody as I like it. Got the asparagus as a side and it was also pretty good. The ceasar salad had real anchovy in it so beware if you're not a fan of this, and it was a good size. Most places ask if you want that. Here, you get it regardless, and they even have them on the salad bar. Tried the oysters rockefeller and it wasn't bad at all. When the server comes out to take your order, they will bring a slab of rib eye and cut it as you like it. I thought it was a little pricey for Spartanburg.. I think it was 24.95 for the 12oz prime rib (might have been the 16oz price, can't remember). As for the others in our group, another had the prime rib, and the rest had chicken with the salad bar. The chicken plate was pretty large, so good bang for the buck there. Our server was wonderful and took care of us. The cheesecake with chocolate and berries was very good for dessert. I would say this is a place to come back to if you have the coin. Nice atmosphere, if a little dimly lit where we were seated. They serve up a pretty nice Ketel One martini up with 3 olives (my usual when ordering prime rib). For a party of 5 +1 child, and 3 of them split a chicken dinner.. so, 4 full meals, 2 alcohol drinks, 2 desserts.. bill was just short of 140$.. not bad, but add a another meal, a few more apps and desserts and drinks and you're hitting 200$+ for 5 people easy.
