I realize there are times when servers can get busy and don't have the opportunity to devote the proper amount of attention to each table as they would traditionally do. But when you take a customer's credit/debit card, it is expected you won't stop by every single table in the restaurant to make sure that everything is fine. That's exactly what happened. The service at this Olive Garden location can be really hit or miss. After going there several times since it opened a few years ago, I can honestly say I'm no longer impressed with this chain. Their idea of food inspired by Italian cooking is pasta with a bunch of cheese, bread, and salt dumped on top for flavor. They totally drown out the flavor of the meat or vegetables they put in the dish. The only thing they offer that is consistently good is their "free" salad. On top of the fact that the food was so-so, and the service was definitely subpar during my last visit, the fact that very few of the workers actually smiled is somewhat disturbing. What is happening within this restaurant that no one takes a few milliseconds to smile? Everything began fine during this visit; there was actually no wait on Saturday night at 6:30. We are seated, and after waiting a few minutes, our server finally showed up. He wasn't extremely complimentary, but seemed to be relaxed and willing to give us the attention we deserved. We would soon learn that this would not be the case. Our drinks were not refilled until moments before the meal was brought out. That was at least 20 minutes after we received our drink order. It took almost as long to bring out the salad and breadsticks, which normally took around five minutes. And then, the debacle with the credit card happened. The food wasn't anything spectacular, either. Basically, we have another chain that has gone from good to subpar, and yet another restaurant that over charges and under performs. If you're in Spartanburg, stay away from Olive Garden or most of the the other chain restaurants and stick to the local establishments where you know the owners and the people that work there care about the success of the restaurant and the people they serve.

We had a party of 4 go in and we ordered and we ordered the server started off ok but then it got worse we got our salad and asked for more salad dressing before the dressing came out another server brought us the main entree now we had salad and the main sitting in front of us eating with 4 people at a table and each of us had 3 plates each there was no room on the table of even your napkins, this waitress didnt even ask if I wanted more drink when I got to the bottom of my glass she brought the check out without asking of we wanted any dessert that came with our meal we had to ask for it. Then I gave her my CC to pay for the meal and asked for togo boxes and 15 min later we had to ask a hostess for the boxes and my CC back. The hostess went over and told the manager what was going on and he went and disappeared into the back so he didnt have to hear us or talk to us. that food was ok at best but when I pay the prices at olive garden I expect a certain amount of service ( not to be catered to) but at least a drink refill when my glass gets close to being empty or asking if everything was ok or not . Now knowing that Olive Garden wont let their servers have more than 4 tables the service should be outstanding but this olive garden is the worst I have ever been to

Service is always superb and the food is good and mostly hot... but the wait for seats and a table for a large group can be dreadful. Good food, nice ambience, and handsome servers.

This Olive Garden is okay. It's not the food, it's more about the service at this one. Takes too long to clean the tables so we have to wait to be seated when we can see empty, but unbussed, tables which adds an additional 5-10 minutes to the process. Eating at the bar, service is much faster and you get your food much quicker but those stools are not comfortable to sit on for long especially if you have shorter legs and a larger behind.

First you remove braised beef and tortellini from the menu... And then you bring it back as a dinner only entree? Boo olive garden.

I do not usually eat at chain restaurants like this, but I was accompanying four other friends. We sat for 20 minutes before being asked for beverages, but the manager gave a free appetizer for making us wait. We got the baked mozzarella ap. It was good and came out good. I got the bellini tea, and it was good. My friend said it was too syrup tasting, so I got the unsweet tea when getting a refill. The salads and bread sticks came out and we never had an issue of it running out which is a plus. I decided to order the mixed griller, and it came with chicken medallions, steak tips, potatoes and peppers, and also sautéed asparagus. The steak I asked to be medium rare, and it came out very delicious. The chicken medallions were very over cooked, so the waitress offered to have new ones which came out very great and juicy. The asparagus was firm and the potatoes and bell peppers were perfectly cooked. Overall, this was a good 8th visit, but the conditions caused this review to lose three stars. I hope that if I venture here next time that the experience is better.

While the food is usually good at this location, for the price, I would expect better service. Upon arriving at this location for an early dinner around 4:30, I was told the wait would be a few minutes. This is really no big deal, and I have no problem waiting. The only problem was there were multiple tables available in the dining room, and the restaurant was not busy at all. There were (at most) around 30 cars in the parking lot. The manager and waiters were chatting and laughing the entire time we waited, and no other parties were waiting ahead of us. After nearly a 45 minute wait, we were finally seated in the nearly empty dining room. Our waiter took forever to bring out drink order (all ice waters). And, the food took just as long. I think the manager need to hire more servers as our server was completely over-worked and waiting on more than 10 tables. Needless to say, this will most likely be my last visit to this Olive Garden. I am amazed anyone eats here and endures this kind of service when paying this much for a meal. I really feel for the waiters who are over-worked and have little time to do more than run around between the tables.

I stopped at the Olive Garden near the Westgate Mall in Spartanburg, SC on Saturday Sept. 14th about 2pm. A friendly greeter immediately acknowledged me, and I told her I would sit at the bar. At this time the bar area was pretty busy at the tables, but I was the only one at the bar. I was quickly greeted by Kara, the bartender, who introduced herself and immediately asked what I would like to drink, and if I would like to see a menu. I had my cocktail very soon. Kara took my food order as she was making my drink. Kara also thoughtfully asked if I would like a 5 minute hold on my entree so I would have time to enjoy my salad. It seemed a good idea and I accepted. Today I ordered the unlimited pasta special, and I chose Spaghetti with meat sauce, one sausage and one meatball. I also had the salad (love the unlimited salad!!). The pasta is $9.99, with a $2.99 add on for meatballs / Italian sausage. The price seemed very reasonable for all you can eat, and it's ok to change to a different pasta combination if you want seconds. Kara continues to impress. She said she has been with the company for about 5 years, starting out in Connecticut. I mention that I like the idea of the unlimited pasta for $9.99, and she tells me there is a story behind it from some years back. She is a little fuzzy on the details, and even goes off to ask another employee for the background. They can't quite remember the details, but I am simply impressed that they have enough interest in Olive Garden that they are discussing such things. It gives me the feeling Kara is a loyal employee and has respect for her company. The spaghetti dish is great! Prepared in the same consistent way as the Columbia Two Notch store (which is the closest Olive Garden to my home). The pasta is perfectly cooked, and that means so much in Italian cuisine. Kara has just walked by and asked if I am happy with my meal, and asked if I needed more sauce or anything else. She is definitely on the ball. I notice another customer come in who seems to be a regular, and quite happy Kara is here to wait on him. Looks like she is bringing in some repeat customers! I have finished my first bowl of pasta, and Kara asks if I would like more. I ask for a half order, which she gets started on. It is really good, with half the pasta but including another sausage and meatball. While I enjoy the rest of my salad, I take a look around. The bar area looks fairly neat and well organized. There is a TV over the bar, though it is small and not really very visible unless you are in just the right area. Also, regarding ambience, there is light jazz playing on the speakers overhead. The music mix is appropriate and conducive to a comfortable dining experience, although I personally prefer the "Rat Pack" mix with Frank Sinatra they play in the Columbia store ;). Kara recites a list of possible dessert options, but I'm stuffed and ask for my bill. She brings it, and offers a beverage in a to-go cup. A few minutes later as I am leaving, she invites me to return and addresses me by name. Very impressive service! I didn't have significant interaction with any other employees since I was in the bar area the whole time, but I left feeling this restaurant was very well managed.

One of my absolute fave places. I could drink the salad dressing like water. Staff are always friendly & solicitous but not too much so. The corporation may not be the most responsible in the world, but this franchise is as good as it gets! The managers watch out for their customers & address any problem immediately & fairly. 5*'s+!

Never again... Not even if you paid for my meal. My mother & I arrived slightly before the lunch rush this weekend and were anticipating a relaxing meal at what use to be a favorite chain of ours. Sadly, the section in which we sat had different plans. Our waitress was beyond rude and couldn't doing anything at a reasonably quick pace to save her life (or her tip). Yes, it was lunch time and the place was a little busy. But visiting our table once in a while was not beyond the realm of possibility. I merely wanted a bowl of the Zuppa Toscana soup and some salad, but was informed that they were out of the soup. Strange - I figured it was made on site daily, but fine. I ordered a different type and settled back to enjoy the rest of the fare. Still, our beverages often ran dry and our salad refill took at least 15 minutes. Our waitress couldn't be bothered with us. After all, the table across the way had 5 people in it and that was sure to bag her a larger tip! The Pasta e Fagioli soup I ordered was decent, but nothing stood out about its flavor. The breadsticks were stale and without flavor, and my mom's pasta dish was bland at best. Even the five shrimp she had added to it (for a hefty extra $6) were tasteless. I was contemplating a second bowl when the waitress at the table next to us sat down a large, steaming bowl of Zuppa Toscana soup in front of one of the other patrons. Curious, I asked our server about it & she rolled her eyes & said she would check with the kitchen. A difficult request, I know, but she did return with a bowl of the soup I wanted, so yay for her. Still, she forgot my mother's cappucino despite the fact that we asked for it multiple times. By the end of the whole thing, we were begging for the check, which still took quite some time to get to us. Why a two star rating then? One star comes from the freshness of the salad & the good soup that I finally did receive. Both had great flavors and were fresh out of the kitchen. The other star comes from the fact that the host staff was extremely pleasant, friendly, and quick to take care of you. Perhaps our waitress should take a lesson from them since her demeanor might actually help her make a little money. There is a reason I typically avoid chain places and this particular one sealed the deal for me. Overpriced food that lacks any sort of flavor or 'wow' factor along with servers who would ditch you for larger tables despite the fact that you'll probably tip more than a family with 3 kids running around. I'd rather be at home, slaving over a hot stove for my family than take them out here for terrible service and subpar italian food.

I tend to be very forgiving of mistakes, because I've been a waitress, and I understand that so much that can be wrong with a restaurant is not the fault of the person who interacts with you (the waitress). We still gave her a great tip even though we were terribly disappointed with our experience. However, the experience was disappointing from start to finish. We live nearby, and frequently see that there is a long line to get in, and so we had not been here before. One Friday night just a few weeks ago, it was cold and raining, and when we drove by we didn't see a long line so we took a chance and went in. There was a wait for a table, which is fine, it was Friday night, we expected that. We went to the bar first and I ordered a glass of house wine. It was $6 and the bartender really did not pour very much wine in the glass - I'm used to ordering a glass of wine at restaurants, so I have an idea of how much a "glass" should be, this was way less. We are seated at a table that has a chair on one side, a bench on the opposite side, the bench is shared by several tables against the same wall. I take the chair, I notice right away there is cold air blowing on me. My husband sits on the bench, and drops about six inches into it. And he's very thin - it wasn't his weight that did it, the bench was just sagging and collapsing and had such old, useless padding, that I was staring across at him suddenly looking much shorter than me. Weird. The draft is more than I can ignore. I realize it's unlikely we can be re-seated, since the place was full and we had to wait for this table, so I decide to ask the waitress about it when she comes to bring us our menus. Here's the strange thing, when she gets there, I barely started my sentence, I said something like "You know I feel ..." and that's only about as far as I got and she finished my sentence and pointed at the vent overhead. She said "right, it's drafty here, I'll see if I can get someone to cut that off". I hadn't even said "cold" or "draft" or anything at all to hint at what was wrong, and she knew right away. That kind of tells you right there that they get so many complaints about that, that the waitresses are sick of hearing people complain about it, so much so that they finish your sentence and know what the problem is. Either that or she has ESP ... which I doubt ... because ... We ordered, got our drinks and salad, those were great. It wasn't too long of a wait for the meal, someone brought food to our table, but it was the wrong order. Not even close. I ordered eggplant and someone brought me chicken. My husband ordered the seafood ravioli and someone brought him chicken. So, we sent it back. The second time, someone brought his seafood ravioli, and brought me chicken again. I flagged down the waitress and told her, she took the chicken away, and left my husband's meal in front of him, which was fine, but didn't bring out my food right away. She came back after a minute and said it still wasn't ready, and it would be a few minutes. That's okay, but my husband didn't want to eat without me, so we asked her to take his food back and bring both out together, so that his wouldn't be cold by the time mine came back. After a few minutes, not a terribly long wait, they brought my meal nice and hot and it looked great. She set my husband's meal down in front of him, stone cold at that point. It had not been kept warm or re-heated in any way. As we didn't want to wait for a fourth attempt, he ate his cold food, I ate my meal - which tasted great - which was the only reason for the two stars - and the salad and breadsticks were good. I don't understand why the seating was in such bad condition, why they had had so many complaints about the drafty area but hadn't fixed it (I sat in a cold blast of air the whole time), and why they had such bad communication about who got what food and how to serve food hot. So, we don't plan on going back.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
