Best Sushi in the Area. Period. Eating lunch there was always a treat for me and my coworkers!

I was back here again last week while traveling through Spartanburg and once again was not disappointed. The tako sunomono was a little different (chopped in pieces into a salad), but not bad. Our rolls, spring rolls, and gyoza were all good. This is place we always stop in when in town if we need our sushi fix. The menu has a lot of variation so don't think of this as just a 'sushi' place. There is a lot more to it.

This is our favorite sushi restaurant in town. Lots of variety and consistent.

Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. Reasonably priced. Authentic Japanese menu. Best sushi in Spartanburg. Can be crowded but I don't really mind that.

Sushi is awesome. Service is not. Not much atmosphere here, but the sushi is worth it.

The food gets 3 stars; however, the service I would give only 2 stars. I sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive, but had to leave to go buy liquor. This left a rather unattentive waitress in charge of the patrons seated at the bar. I ended up ordering from her; however, she neglected to place my order and the order was actually put in once the bartender returned from his liquor run. I'm was in Spartanburg for work and was so happy to find a decent sushi restaurant. The atmosphere is a bit different than your typical sushi place. It isn't made to look typically Asian, necessarily - which isn't a bad thing. The menu is quite extensive and there is a lot of food to choose from, besides sushi. There are many typical Japanese items on the menu. I had the ika karage (fried squid) as an appetizer and it was quite tasty. For my main dish, I had the tekka donburi (raw tuna on a bed of sushi rice) and it was also quite good, although a little heavy on seasame seeds. The prices here are very cheap compared to what I'm used to..so it seems like a great bargain. I'll go back for sure as I have several more trips to Spartanburg planned for work. I hope that on my next trip that the service is better. Also, I saw another reviewer write that this was authentic Japanese food. After having lived/worked in Japan for 3 years, I'd have to disagree with the claim to authenticity. Mind you, the food was good, but I don't think the cooks, nor the owners are actually Japanese. I suspect the owner is Korean - because the dishes are close to authentic, but just a tad different. I'd love to see some Korean dishes on the menu (bibim bop, kimchee chigae, etc).

Food is excellent with a relaxed atmosphere. The wait staff is very friendly and they are accommodating on special requests like the spicy crunchy tuna roll. Have had the sushi and several of the items on the menu and have never been disappointed.

Miyako Sushi Group is a great restaurant if you're looking for authentic Japanese food (not the American-ized versions of it). The owner is always hustling around and is very friendly. Many of the employees there are actually - imagine this - Japanese! Growing up in Japan taught me to appreciate good Japanese food, authentic Japanese food and Miyakos serves both. The restaurant is small for the amount of business they do, but going during the day seems to be the best time to go.

After living in Spartanburg all our lives and hearing such good things about Miyakos, we were gravely disappointed in our experience eating here. Our service was subpar: we waited over an hour from when we sat down to get our food. When it finally came, the sushi wasn't anything to write home about. It was warm and slightly soggy and needed soy sauce for flavor. The atmosphere was also outdated; it looked as though the wallpaper hadn't been replaced in 30 or so odd years. They had one tv mounted on the wall farthest away from the bar playing college wrestling. It's the heart of the NCAA men's basketball tournament and they're watching wrestling. Basically, we probably won't go back. If we want to go out for good sushi we'll gladly take the drive to Greenville. The price we paid for the food alone was not worth the time we spent.

Always so good. Do yourself a favor and try the veggie fried rice. it has pieces of broccoli, zucchini, and other veggies in it. SO SO SO good. The Red Dragon Jr. and The Tony P have to be my favorite rolls.

Ok the sushi here is terrific !! And I don't know of anything else on the menu besides sushi because that's all I get Its fresh imaginative and always tasty. My favorite being the red dragon roll. My daughters both love the Tony P roll and the summer splash roll So the food is terrific but I normally prefer to eat takeout from here because while the tables are okay the chairs are old, worn and honestly quite dirty. There are often cobwebs easily seen and the bathrooms just have a dirty feel for them even if they're clean. Basically the inside is due for an overhaul. Otherwise it would give this place five stars So to avoid looking at these yucky things, look your friends in their eyes and have a good conversation & when your food comes ---eat your food with your eyes closed!

I ate at Miyako tonight and I must say I've never had sushi better than this. I had the holy moly roll and it was so so so good! My boyfriend really enjoyed his sushi also and this was his second time having sushi. He says we will definitely be coming back! Not only was it the most tasty meal ever, but the customer service was great. Our waiter and other waiters made sure our water was always full and they all had great personalities. This place is wonderful. The best place in Spartanburg. Of course the prices are not low, but they are worth what you pay for and they are not ridiculously expensive. Definitely reccomend this restaurant! Makes a nice family dinner OR romantic date night.

The sushi here is absolutely amazing. Tried the unagi roll for the first time here and was not dissapointed. You can't find quality and care like this anywhere in spartanburg. If there was one thing that I didn't like about this place is how busy it is. If your not here early enough or try to go here during their rush hour, then expect a wait. They're extremely popular, and their crowds are notorious. However, even with this it is well worth going to. The waiters are knowledgeable and friendly. The food is impeccable. And my friends and I love hanging out here. This is the place to come here for sushi

I'm a man of sushi Sushi's my quest I travel the coastlines In search of the best Most places one finds Droll droopy cuts Artless sad slivers That suck soggy nuts I found MSG On a walkabout jaunt Apprehensive was I Strolling into this haunt The chefs greeted me From behind the glass case Slicing and dicing Impeccable grace I ordered Chefs' Choice For 15 bucks only And some sake and beer (I came in that night lonely) House special dressing On a bowl of iceberg Miso soup chunky With tofu and... curds? Then came the big moment My long slender plate Loaded with seafood And yeah, it got ate Mackerel a-spotted It tastes of the sea And look, there's more Sashimi waiting for me Octopus! Prawn! Tempura fried! "Feed me more yellow fin tuna!" I cried. Imagine my joy This inland locale Their salmon could take on Steven Segal Is it the best? I scoff and say no. You want the best? Go hit Tokyo. But as often is said By neighborhood Joes, "It's pretty damn good, As Spartanburg goes."

Wow! I was not prepared for how good this place was. It even impressed my boss who is Japanese. We were on a business trip and found this place on Yelp. Read the reviews and they were right. We enjoyed the sushi and the atmosphere. Recommended.

Fell in love with sushi and my wife at Miyakos. Sugar and spice is terrific as well as the Phoenix roll. Just my opinion. Love love love Miyakos.

Great Decor, Great Sushi and Generous Portions. This is a quintessential sushi venue for those who are connoisseurs and looking quick service and reasonable priced. Beyond sushi they also offer a great selection of menu items and a GREAT happy hour. The owner waits tables and being that hands on, increases the level of service and food that is being prepared. I highly recommend this venue to any living in the Upstate area or passing through!

Last night I had the pleasure of visiting with my friend Russell while I was in Spartanburg for work. He found this great, fresh sushi place. Terrific service and a terrific variety. We ordered the delicious Citrus Rainbow roll and also the Spartanburg rolll (I am not a huge fan of cream cheese in my sushi but it was tasty). We asked our server to surprise us with a roll of his choice and he gave us the Summer Surprise, truly delicious. Not expensive, lovely size green tea cups, busy and they allowed us to stay at our table and not rush us through our meal. Highly recommend.

The decor of Miyako Sushi is weird. However, Neen J's comment about the size of the green tea cups got me past that. Our waitress was amazing, and it seems that, perhaps, what the kitchen staff lack in breadth of ingredients due to the low price points, the "out front" staff make up for in personality. This is not to say that the food was prepared incorrectly or without skill; only that some very obvious substitutions have been made which compromise the integrity of some of the dishes. (There was little or no miso paste in the miso ramen, and iodized salt had been added on top of the weak dashi stock.) My tea (the other reviewer was right - they have relatively large tea cups) was always hot & full, there were always staff circling to clear items from tables (it wasn't very busy the night I went, so it was a bit obvious) and refill glasses, which is a marked (positive) difference from from 98% of the other restaurants in the upstate. Would I go back? Yes. For me. Would I take a guest, not already familiar with the restaurant? Probably not. The prices are very reasonable (if you pay attention, a party of two can get out for under $20 and be full), the serving sizes are generous and the wait staff are very pleasant and professional.

I've had sushi from all over the country. This is by far the best. If you haven't tried it yet, you need to.

The sushi tasted better than I thought! I got a good portion for the price I paid! Service was good. I would return. I only thing is the decor is pretty plain but other than that the food is good.

Wakame salad and miso soup were great. All rolls and nigiri we had were very good. Black Dragon and Sandy Bomb rolls were delicious and Red Dragon and Big Easy rolls were huge! Definitely coming back here when in the mood for some good sushi.
