My Girlfriend & I were passing thru the area looking for some seafood to celebrate her graduation from Ft. Jackson. After seeing the positive reviews, we decided on Flounders. You should know I'm the granddaughter of a true old-school southern cook & a servicemember who's traveled the World. The building is older with dingy ceiling tiles, laminated wood benches, light blue walls & some "artsy" fish decorations. The Womens restroom freaked me out...one room, one sink, TWO toilets, NO walls between them. I guess the family that eats together poos together too??? After my "field latrine" experience, we ordered. I started with a cup of clam chowder. It wasn't "Boston hearty," but still tasty. The Girlfriend started with the shrimp cocktail & would describe it as fair. We split a 3-item plate of fried scallops, shrimp & crab patties. As with most other reviews, the batter was light & not greasy. The scallops were some of the best fried I'd ever eaten. The shrimp was typical & the crab patties quite tasty, particularly with the tartar sauce. I'm not a coleslaw eater, but the Girlfriend described it as "ok after enough salt & pepper." The fries & hushpuppies were also ok, seeming to lack some seasoning we just couldn't nail down. I ordered a Coke, which came in a can with a chipped plastic cup of ice. The Girl did enjoy the sweet tea which came with a 2-liter pitcher to refill from & extra cup of ice, something we rarely get. The waitress was friendly & helpful. Overall, if you're looking for some local tastes, with local ambience & you don't mind sharing special restroom moments with a complete stranger, then Flounders is for you. I dropped in here on a business trip. I arrived at 4 on a Saturday and the parking lot was already full. I had the sampler plate. Everything was fried and oh so good! I had an issue when my order came out. It was fixed quickly and an apology from the lady in charge. They were sooo nice and my waitress, Taylor, was totally on point, even with a packed house. A ton of food for the price. Food coma ensued.

Their service is great, and I loved the food! I had crab cakes, fries, slaw, and hush puppies. Nothing on my plate that I didn't love. Highly recommend!!!

The Flounder is a great seafood restaurant...definitely the best in the Spartanburg area. The atmosphere feels like home and the staff is always so friendly. I've had everything from the flounder to the crab cakes to the calabash chicken and it is all fantastic. The portions for the plates are huge (they do have half plates and it's still a ton of food!). The hush puppies are wonderful and the slaw is good, too. The Flounder is only open Wednesday - Saturdays so keep that in mind! It also tends to get very crowded on Friday and Saturday nights.

Disappointing. Way too much grease for my tastes. The crab cakes were good. Scallops too much breading. Good tartar and cocktail sauces. Please ask if we want hush puppies. I really don't like those things. And serving REAL butter at these prices should be a given. Also do not trust Yelp directions to here.

Havent been there in a while, but when i went it was a very good place to get seafood. If you grew up long enough ago to remember fish camps this is the modern equivalent and very well done.

The Flounder bills itself as a fish camp, and with respect to this particular culinary and cultural niche, I'm gonna say they're doing a fantastic job. A fish camp must get one major thing right: fried seafood. Yes, there are broiled options. Yes, there are simple side items. Yes, there are shellacked golden plywood booths. But just as "clothes make the man," fried seafood makes a fish camp. The Flounder has been exercising mastery in the finer points of the fresh fish fry for YEARS, earning the title of Best Seafood Restaurant in Spartanburg. I'm sure that having an extremely friendly, attentive wait staff contributed to the award as well, but again, we must focus on the true pièce de résistance. The fry batter is crisp (not hard or crunchy), light (not a boiling grease sponge concealing a tiny meat chunk), and faintly sweet & salty - it's a glorious thing to behold, and even gloriouser (not a real word) when you're chowing down on it. And speaking of chowing down, you'll need to be prepared to deal with a grown-man-sized portion if you get a full order. Don't say I didn't warn you. So far, everything we've tried is pretty durn good - flounder, small shrimp, jumbo shrimp, oysters, scallops, whole catfish, catfish fillets, and more. Favorites are probably jumbo shrimp and oysters, although I'd be happy eating anything they plopped down on those sizzling, shimmering stainless platters of palatal pleasure. You need to do this right. Go load up your family and friends, head to Spartanburg, and get friendly with the Flounder.

Everything that we ate was plentiful and delicious. The portions were large and the hush puppies absolutely wonderful. Both the fried flounder and fried talipia were great. We left fat and happy!

This easily became my favorite seafood restaurant after only 1 visit. We were looking for seafood, read their reviews online and found this place. Reviews said to get there before they open, as on Saturdays they will be jam packed and the line will be out the door. So we followed suit and got there before they opened. Several regulars got there early as well, and stated they always got there early to beat the crowd. After going in, we were seated immediately. The restaurant was very large on the inside and several associates were inside ready to work. Our waitress was so nice and polite, and of course helpful as it was our first time at the restaurant. The food was delivered in about 6 or 7 minutes max. I ordered shrimp and it was so good that I ordered another shrimp dinner to go. One of the most convenient things this restaurant does (I'm assuming because it gets soooo busy), is they put water and sweet tea on the table min pitchers so you can do your own refills. Which allows servers to continue helping guests without having to run back and forth refilling their drinks. I absolutely loved it here and can't wait to return!!! Definitely a place to visit if you're in the area. If you follow directions here you might think you're headed to no where but you should be pleased with your food and the restaurant!

My husband and I ate at The Flounder 2 weeks ago, for the first time. Our waitress was Emma, and she was such a wonderful person. She was so friendly and helpful that we asked her if we could ask for her when we come back. She helped us go through the menu, and even gave us a little history on the restaurant itself. Our food was fantastic! Both of us got the fried oysters. My husband also got the flounder, and I got the catfish. The baked potatoes were some of the best we have ever had. The skin was so tender that I ate part of mine. Their hush puppies were excellent, and so was their salads. I'm so glad that we found out about The Flounder. We had been looking for a great seafood restaurant, and now we have one. We can hardly wait to go back!

First off, family owned and operated. -FRESH SEAFOOD - Generous portions. The menu will fit any diet. Affordable..Children's Menus are available. The portions are very large. I've been going to the Flounder my entire life. It's a family tradition. It is very crowded on the weekends so go early for a seat (quickly) They have everything from oyster stew, shrimp cocktail, whole flounder, (baked, broiled or fried) fried oysters & clams. The thing I like is, everything is FRESH! You will never find anything frozen or served out of a can at the Flounder. They prepare the fried foods in clean oil. It is, hands down the best and one of the last Fish Camps left. Give it a try if you're in the area. The service is friendly and lightening FAST! I heart the FLOUNDER

I thought we were on a road to no where when all of a sudden there is a white building with a very crowded parking lot - on a Thursday night. The Flounder is an old fashion fish camp type restaurant - metal trays for plates, pitchers of tea and water on the table and foil wrapped baked potatoes AND very fresh, very lightly battered sea scallops, shrimp and flounder. Some selections can be ordered broiled - flounder, catfish - or boiled - shrimp. Aides of hush puppies and slaw reminded me of other fish camp type restaurants from yesteryear. The Flounder - only open Wed thru Sunday - is worth driving a few miles for.

Decided to give this place another shot since my husband's grandmother wanted to go. Surprisingly it was not too bad. The metal prison trays still bother me a bit, even if they are known for them. It was not as greasy this time around, but I am still not a big fish camp fan. All in all, it was an okay experience.

Yum. The Flounder is good, good, good! Is it good for you? No way! But a couple times a year I like my dose. :) Get there early for dinner; it is always crowded!
