I went to dinner when I was traveling solo on my way to my first half marathon. I was kind of restricted on certain food, but the waitress really worked with me to find something I could eat during training. She knew her slow carbs, and had knowledge of running diets which was ROCKSTAR! She set me up with the daily fresh scallops, fresh sweet corn and pepper (chow-chow?), sweet potato with brown sugar cinnamon butter! I also opted for their FRESH HOMEMADE garlic butter loaf of white bread, totally worth diving into. Man the scallops were perfectly seasoned and seared impeccable well, a bit of crisp on the sides. The corn was so fresh, I had to remove some of the silk, haha. I'd totally go back! Great customer service, seasonal fresh ingredients and fantastic chefs!

Great restaurant. We were in town for a night and looking for a nice dinner. My wife had the crab cakes and I had the Prime Rib. Both were excellent. I added the Maine Lobster tail and this was a great value. The service was good and the atmosphere was nice. They also have a nice bar area if you want to have a drink. I would definitely recommend.

Great steak's and great service. The Manager offered help for direction to boot. We will stop in again when in town.

It was pretty good for a steak house. It was a little pricey but fortunately I was on the business card. Steak was well prepared, the side veggies were not that impressive, too many carrots in the mix. Service was good and good happy hour specials on drinks

My wife and I dropped in for SC Restaurant Week. I researched menus across the upstate, and City Range's lineup beat out all the jokers in Greenville, including the City Range location out there. The sides came off as their strong suit. Grilled asparagus was perfectly crisp, the brussels my wife ate with great enthusiasm, and she won't normally touch those things. The service was friendly, but in a chain restaurant, that's pretty much a rule, like at Disney World. The tots appetizer was interesting with mashy inside and truffle oil drizzle, but (forgivememothermaryforIhavesinned) I found myself craving catsup. The steak tip app was passable, but nothing to give the diner pause (sorry guys, a micro-green garnish is just not enough anymore). The mains themselves were saddening. The hangar steak I ordered mid-rare but it came out bloody as hell. I question the plate arrangement too. Why an au jus *and* herb butter? If the butter is for the potatoes, why so much? There was enough butter in that ramekin to choke out Paula Deen! The New Zealand lamb, which drew us to City Range in the first place, ordered medium, came off in a variable state. Some bits were mid-well, some were cooked to the point of doorstops. And the breading. Why? Why would you bread and deep fry NZ lamb? Unless you're masking something. This wouldn't be... Australian lamb would it? Would it?! A brief aside. My Kiwi wife and I lived in NZ for some time. The lamb there was plentiful, cheap, and amazing. I taught myself no less than 27 million ways to prepare as many cuts of lamb. Not one of those involved breading or frying (with the exception of sweetbreads). Because NZ lamb is delicate, loving, and amazing. It would be like deep frying your iPad, in hopes that it will connect to the internet faster or something. The desert course was half and half. The berry coulis on the cheesecake was bar none, adding a brightness to the not-at-all obnoxious density of the cake. And did I detect a coconut flake in the crust? Nice touch. The bread pudding ticked all the boxes (raisins, bourbon sauce, sticky bread) but did nothing to jump off the plate at me. My espresso came out lukewarm. Now, back to the service. City Range attempts this persona of "Yes we're a chain, but you'd never know it because of our unique attention to the needs of our loyal local customer base." I bought into the narrative at first, when our server described in earnest detail how the chef hand crafted this very special menu for Restaurant Week. I pictured the poor woman, flour in her eyes and hair, flames licking up from the stove, and she frantically pencils last-minute edits to the poetry that is her prix fixe menu. "I simply *must* get this right! For my loyal local customer base! Huzzah!" The reality? City Range is still a chain restaurant, just like your local Wells Fargo is an evil banking conglomerate (even though your teller may know you by name and ask about the kids). City Range's game is turning tables. Our happy-go-lucky waiter kept those plates coming out fast and furious to the point where the pacing felt rushed. It was less like a couples night out and more like a business lunch. I could tell we were in their way, so I didn't bother fussing about the cold espresso. My conclusions? Kitchen employs a team of competent prep guys and line cooks, but their grill man is an amateur, a new hire, or a drunk. Possibly a combination of those. The chef has some overall good ideas, and I hope that she goes on to apprentice at better places after she cuts her teeth at City Range. The waiter, bless him, is a nice young man, but he needs to know that when the customers say they mains are "just okay," you make things right. You certainly don't say things like, "The dessert course should make up for that!" (make up for it? it's fixe prix, we've already paid for it!) or bring out the check declaring, "Glad everything was wonderful for you two." Sing me the "Small World" song while you're at it, chuckles. If you're around Westgate and need a place to drink before the movie starts at Spartan, drop in for cheap well drinks at their happy hour, and order some of those tots while you're at it. But if you and your date want to drop $100 for dinner and a glass of wine, know that better options are out there.

We ate there last evening 8-8-15. The service was outstanding and the food was well prepared. I had the blue crab cakes my wife had the beef tenderloins. Both arrived at the table well presented, cooked to perfection and the taste was spot on. We stayed at the Hampton Inn across the street that is the reason we went there for dinner. We recommend that If you are in the area stop by and have dinner. The prices are reasonable for this type of place.

For the price it was so so. Our waitress Katie however was amazing. We had a large party (8) and she was always great with making sure our drinks were full and our orders were to par and correct. The food dishes all seemed amazing but didn't taste as pizazz as they sounded. The eggs benedict needed more flavor and hollandaise sauce. It's on top of toast which is different but it was tasty. Their cheese prosciutto grits weren't creamy nor cheesy enough. I couldn't taste the Asiago cheese it claimed to have. The mimosa and bloody mary we ordered were wonderful. I've never had a bloody mary until today and now I'm afraid I'd only want theirs. Their bread they had was oh soooo delish! Nice fresh hot and soft. Just the way bread should be. And it comes with this fluffy whipped and lightly sweetened butter! Now I could eat that all day. But hey... keep dreaming right. Won't be back for brunch but may try their lunch or dinner menu when I'm next in town.

Service was great, food blah. First off, "Mark A. Master", as his name read on the receipt, was truly a great waiter. He was super energetic and didn't make me feel terrible as I sent back some foul wine and asked for a clean spoon. The food was a bit average with not a single highlight other than the perfectly baked sweet potato (but really, how can you mess that up?). The steak's chargrilled marks overpowered the flavor of the meat making it taste burnt. The sautéed mushroom were in a cheap beef broth that overpowered the other flavors that could have complimented the steak nicely. The béarnaise sauce was cold and lacked flavor (good thing I had asked for it on the side). Their signature crab bisque was thicker than expected and had clumps which were not supposed to be there. The spiciness was nice, but lacked sufficient crab.

Consistently great. Neverr a bad meal (rarely less than excellent), good service here is the minimum and exemplary is the norm. Fresh food, great specials and excellent atmosphere. Very relaxing place. I'm here at least once a month.

Good, not great. This place is definitely an "almost there". Chili was good, but not hot. The Prime Rib melt was good, but had a little too much fat for a "sandwich". A quick slice of the knife would have gone a long way before serving.

A business dinner for a party of 7. We started by splitting appetizers: the tuna wontons, a beef, and the crab cakes. It was a good mix. Afterward many of us got the Restaurant Week 3 course menu. I had the wedge with house made dressing. So delicious and refreshing. Then I had the roast chicken as my main course. It was a healthy portion with lots of green beans and sitting on top of a herbed warm mashed potato cake. I ended with the light and fluffy rum cheesecake. They ran out of tiramisu which disappointed some. Everyone was happy with their meal. Two people commented on the deliciousness of the pork. The restaurant was packed but service for our big party was great. We'll be back!

I went here with my family for Mother's Day. We are from Charlotte and met my family half way and this was just the spot for it. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of this restaurant and thought the server, whose name now escapes me, was absolutely fabulous. Being in the service industry myself, Mother's Day often brings crowds by the masses, and it can be a rough long day for people. His attitude and service were not affected the least! We had a few rounds of cocktails and most everyone ordered the filet for dinner. Oscar topping is relatively cheap compared to other steakhouses I have been too. Everything was prepared nicely and the night went very smooth.

Stopped in there a couple of weeks ago for lunch. I wanted something light and picked the crab cakes which were very good and fresh and loaded with crab. It came with asparagus and saffron rice which was very tasty. I ordered a Gorgonzola and pecan salad to go (my wife's dinner if you're interested) but it was a disappointment. There wasn't much cheese and some of the greens were past their sell-by date. The dressing was nice though.

This place was recommended to me by locals and it was really good. Atmosphere, food and service I liked all of them.

This place is basically Applebee's with a bigger grill for steaks. I don't understand the cost of the food or why some people rave on about this place. It's just the same cracked out wait persons you run into at any of the other B level restaurants. It's just decorated a little nicer with no Americana screwed to the walls and a better color scheme. It's very loud in this place. I find myself having trouble hearing the people I'm with and vice versa. I've been here 3 times and every time I've not enjoyed my experience. It's too expensive for this kind of food and treatment.

I was staying across the street from the City Range while in town for business. So, after working until 7 & checking into the hotel at 7:30, I decided to walk across the street to check this place out for drinks and dinner. I was meeting a co-worker there, and we ended up just eating at a bar table. I was impressed with the menu....especially when I saw the "Ultra fit" menu options. I ended up ordering the Ahi tuna which was fresh sashimi grade tuna with asparagus, tomatoes and mushrooms on a bed of bean thread noodles. A four oz portion was $17.99, which I think is reasonable for the quality and portion size. The service was a bit slow in the bar area, but our server was very friendly. Overall, I was pleased with my visit and would definitely go back - especially for that yummy tuna.

I'm actually astounded that this restaurant only has 3 stars! I have been a satisfied customer here since it opened and will continue to eat at this wonderful restaurant. I usually order the pork chop or the bourbon pecan chicken and have always been incredibly happy with my order, service and price. The appetizers are wonderful and the desserts (especially the city snicker) are fantastic!

Great place to eat! I was just passing thru Spartanburg and my hotel is right next the restaurant so I had to try it out. I'm glad I did! The service was quick and courteous and friendly. The food came out quickly as well. I got the Pesto Chicken Paillard. It was amazing. Lots of great flavors in that dish. The chicken was grilled to perfection and yet so moist and tender! Delicious! If you are staying in Spartanburg or just passing thru, you gotta stop in and eat at the City Range!

We went for a meal to celebrate my father's birthday and everything was top-notch: the service was good, the food was excellent and our entire party had their food delivered within only a few minutes of each other. The appetizers were very good -- I had the crab cakes and others seemed impressed with the buffalo popcorn shrimp. My entree of beef tenderloin was cooked a little more rare than I'd ordered but the taste was excellent. It's a great atmosphere and everyone seemed to have a really good time.

The food has always been really good here until the last time we visited City Range. I ordered chicken that came to me undercooked and the Caesar salad that I ordered came to me hot. When I sent the food back, the manager pretty much argued with me and so, we haven't been back since. The customer is always right and I refuse to pay for food that could possibly make me sick.

Got the burger for lunch, was minimally seasoned and was overpriced. The bacon was burned and the toppings were also minimal. I wouldn't recommend it, but maybe they were having an off day.

I really liked this restaurant. It was in walking distance from our hotel so we had to try it out. Everything on menu sounded really good. Drink: Blue Moon Appetizer: Cocktail Shrimp & Blackened Chicken Spring Mix Salad w/Vinergrette dressing. Main Course: Grilled Salmon Merlot with Asparagus Dessert: Raspberry Creme Brulee. (This came out in a soup bowl... I expected a little dessert but it was a lot!) Will have to dine here again if I ever go back to S. Carolina.

I ate here while on business with a group of 13 colleagues. Nice place, nice atmosphere. We had appetizers, all sorts, very good. The crab bisque was very good. My Entree was salmon in red pepper sauce. It simply had no flavor and was not very good. I have to say most of the others had steaks which looked very good. Our service was mediocre as well. They were not quick this evening and we had two servers. Slow to take drink orders, slow to pick up dishes, etc. not sure why as this was a Wednesday and it was not that busy. Overall nice place but wish I would have tried something else. Stick with the steaks!

I ate here with family on the night of the ice storm in 2013 - the place was deserted around 5pm because apparently everyone in SC can't handle a little weather lol. Being from Ohio, we were fine. We sat right next to the center fireplace in the main dining and that was fabulous - we actually scooted the table a foot closer because the warmth felt so nice. Our server was nice, but not as well versed in the menu as she should have been. It took a while for our wine to come out and she did not put my father's martini on rocks as he requested. The food was very good, I had prime rib with my mother and my dad had the blue crabcakes - those were particularly awesome. And the GARLIC BREAD - totally unhealthy but was so good. It is pricey, however. Overall we will definitely eat there again.

The decor is quite lovely, and I had high hopes for this place. Service wasn't too bad (though our waiter didn't really seem to be familiar with the dishes or preparation, he was very polite), but the food wasn't great. Spinach dip was ok, but a bit bland. Garlic spinach was pretty good, not too wet or under-seasoned. The Mediterranean Pasta was a disaster of soupy blandness, and didn't have basil the first time out of the kitchen. The noodles were meant to be angel hair, but were the size of spaghetti. I've spent a lot of time with angel hair recently, cooking various brands to see which I like in my home dishes. When asked, the waiter said it wasn't angel hair, so I sent it back. The same plate came back with basil (yay! though it didn't do much for the taste, except make it slightly basil-licious) and waiter said the chef said the dish was made with "Cappelini angel hair." Angel hair-Angel hair? Hm. :D I took a bite. Ah, bloated noodles. Mystery solved. How does a chef look twice at a dish and miss this? The sauce was a wet mess that didn't even pretend to cling to the noodles. The pan seared shrimp were chewy and a bit overcooked. I expect a pan sear to leave a slight bite on tender shrimp, tossed at the last minute with pasta to prevent over-cooking. Silly me! All in all, quite disappointing--EXCEPT for the dessert. The Choc. Volcano cake was delicious, though technically flawed. Flavor, for me, is more important than whether or not the cake is stuck to the ramekin (it was). After a long road trip, this girl just wanted some good eats and a bed. Good chocolate and a bed is a close second, but I wouldn't visit the establishment again. Glad to be leaving it in the rear view. Skip it unless you're only going in for the Chocolate Volcano Cake & drinks.

This is the second time that I have eaten here while in the area for business. I recently had the crab cakes and they were good. I used to pull crabs from the Chesapeake Bay and make them homemade. These are close. Service was very good and personable.

The food is consistently great. They have a smaller portion menu that is a little cheaper but is plenty of food. Sadly, the missing star is service. It is spotty. I traveled here, stayed at the hotel across the road, so ate about 5 times here. Many of the servers are great, a few just don't seem to care. The good thing though, is management noticed and took care of it. Would eat here again.

Having been here a few times, I'm very disappointed in a number of things. Pros: + The menu is one of the few steakhouses in town. Cons: - Every single time I came here, they were late with my drink. Not a little late, bread and salad arriving on the table before the drink got there late. If you can't grill a cherry ahead of time, don't make drinks with it. No idea what could have possibly went wrong with pouring a glass of wine, but this was a remarkable fail. - Twice they managed to incorrectly cook my steak. The first time, it was well into medium, not medium rare. Similar issues the second time around. Both times they corrected it, but it was still on the high side of medium-rare. - To make matters worse the quality of the meat seems alright at best. - Whats with the bread in the bread basket? It looks really processed. Overall, it's just not a great restaurant. It tries to fill the semi-formal gap between Peddlers and Outback, but all it manages to do come off as a nicely appointed assisted living facility dining room. That being said, the food is similar quality, if this doesn't bother you, then City Range is the restaurant for you!

We recently had dinner on a Saturday night at 6:30. The place was packed. City Range is one of my favorite places,so it pains me to write this review. Our server was not the best, and it took 45 minutes just to get our salads. The food came about 30 mins later. Initially, I did complain to the hostess, but it didn't seem to speed things up. At one point there were multiple empty tables that hadn't been cleaned off. I saw a manager responding to other complaints as well . It will be a long time before I verture back to this restaurant,if ever.

I took a group of coworkers there a couple of weeks ago and we had an excellent experience. We were able to get a table by the fire place. The waiter was amazing and so attentive to our every need. The steak was cooked perfectly and the wine she recommended was great. I hardly every order dessert but I couldn't resist the bread pudding. It was so good. I will definitely be going back. I prefer the Spartanburg location but this was in Greenville. Great job.

Service was perfect. I ordered off the fix menu $20 and got the muzzles appetizer which was incredible. The caesar salad was authentic and delicious. Then the main dishes came out. The beef was horrible!!! The steak was tough, hard to swallow... Could have been eating chicken or pork and wouldn't have known the difference. Both myself and co-worker got the desserts that came with the fixed. Apple dumplings and cream cake... Both horrible! Decor is nice. Tuesdays are half off bottles of wine. Not worth it though...

I've been to City Range at least three times (the last two was to redeem gift certificates that I'd received for Christmas presents), and quite honestly, the only reason I will return is if I get more gift certificates there. My steak dinner has been almost exactly like the above review, and--although the atmosphere is great and the lace looks hip and fashionable--the food sucks...and is overpriced. I'd rather have gift certificates to, say, Wendy's.

This restraunt was walking distance for our hotel (Holiday Inn Express). The atmosphere was pleasing. We had the appetizer sampler (Tuna Wontons, shrimp cocktail, crab cakes) which split nicely between 4 people. The shrimp cocktail was good, the other too items were above average and highly recommended. For the entree, my wife and I split the Black and Blue (steak medallions and blue crab cakes on mini toasts with a bernaise sauce with sides of asparagus and mashed potatoes). This dish was pretty amazing. All accompanied by one of their craft city brews which was decent. Overall a good experience and would recommend to fellow travelers.

Steaks are a meal that when done right your a happy camper! Tonight was not one of those meals. I decided to sit in the bar and grab a drink and dinner. After a reccomendation from the bar tender I went with the 10oz sirloin with spiced rub, mashed taters and green beans. I'm not a big beef eater, so I expect a decent cut of meat, cooked right and flavor when I do. At first sight everything looked tasty. But a few bites in and tasty went downhill to bland and rubbery. Steak needed some flavor from the spices that it seemed like the cook forgot to add and all I tasted was charred grill marks. Taters were a bit dry and the green beans were overcooked which came out rubber bandish feeling to chew. The decor and atmosphere was inviting and the fire place and sofas brought a comfy feeling to the bar lounge. Friendly staff and good service. I would reccomend to try it for youself and see if maybe my experience was a fluke. Oh and remember that smoking is allowed in SC! Kinda shortened my visit in the bar to 1 drink. Didn't want to inhale.

Our son was going to be in Spartanburg for the Georgia Southern-Wofford game on his 21st birthday, so we decided to meet him there to celebrate. We were looking for a "special occasion" place for dinner, and City Range seemed to fit the bill. I was a little skeptical because of some of the reviews, but the wife and son picked it, so off we went. I'm glad we did! We had reservations at 7, arrived about 5 minutes early and were immediately seated. The place was full, nice open dining room with a central fireplace. Service was good, our server was attentive but a little forgetful on the little things.... we had to ask for water refills once or twice and the promised bread didn't arrive. But the food runner brought it out quick when asked. We started with the spinach artichoke dip, which was very good. Creamy, cheesy not too much spinach and the pita chips were very good. Entree's were just as yummy... my wife had the 8oz ribeye that was really a lot of food for her, and thin enough to be cooked to medium well like she likes without scorching it to death. It was very tasty. Son had the tuna & oysters, I had the black & blue tenderloins and crab cakes. The seasoning on the tenderloins was just spicy enough and the crab was creamy without being too rich. We finished off with keylime pie and the bread pudding. Along with the 4 mixed drinks between the 3 of us, our bill was a reasonable $108 before the tip. This was a great meal in a great atmosphere. I'm really glad I listened to my wife and son on this one! This is the second year in a row we've been in Spartanburg for a football game, so if we're back again, we'll definitely come back to City Range!

On vacation so we stopped at a very nice looking place. Unfortunately that was the best thing about the place. Perfect atmosphere, nice but slow waitstaff then a very wobbly table to start the night. My wife had a crab cake and ceasar salad. Mushy cake and no taste to the salad. Waiter made a big deal about anchovies on the salad. My wife loves anchovies and told the waiter to leave them on....no anchovies. I had a blackened tuna with chorizo rice. Tuna was ok but overcooked, rice was a pile of grease. Save your $$ find a different pretty restaurant.

Carolina.
