Portion sizes are great. Food preparation is great (they don't overcook the seafood), and the service is usually fantastic. The desserts are really good, but you are probably going to have to take it home and eat it later. Well, you *could* share it....naaah!!

Iama Critic Rating - Silver Bay Seafood Of Simpsonville - 4 Stars 916 North East Main Street, Simpsonville, SC Overall: I left for Silver Bay expecting your typical blue tin roof building with nautical theme parking lot, and a mostly empty restaurant with a few old people sitting around woofing down their after church lunch. And when I pulled into the parking lot my fears seemed justifiable. But something was amiss, I had to wait just to get in the door, and a steady stream of seemingly happy folk were leaving. This place was packed! Minutes later and we were headed to our seats when I saw the most amazing fish tank I have ever seen in a restaurant. Very impressive and the fish were quite healthy. But I don't judge ambiance and parking lots. I am a chef who reviews food! So my guest and I ordered, and ordered and ordered some more. $6.99 - 1/2 Dozen Oysters - 4 Stars I am going to admit that I don't have a lot of reference when it comes to judging raw oysters. I just haven't eaten them enough to be a true connoisseur like I am with most foods. However I have eaten more seafood than 95% of most American and this is what I know. These oysters had a very fresh, lightly sweet aroma. They were not gritty and were exactly like I expected, except for one thing. They flavor was remarkably mild, almost flavorless, and I have no idea if that is normal or not. I added horseradish and hot sauce and still felt they needed something. So I am giving them four stars based solely on them being extremely fresh. However, I think I will stick to fried oysters from now on. Just not enough flavor for the money if you ask me. $9.99 - Grilled Salmon - 4 Stars My "ultra picky" guest ordered this salmon with steamed veggies, a sweet potato and a small side salad. The presentation is a joke and the plate looks a plain as can be, but she raved about the potato, although it was too small. She always orders her veggies steamed so they look plain and boring, just the way she likes them. the salmon however looked gorgeous, although also a bit small. However for $10 this "full dinner" is really an awesome value. Highly recommended! $13.99 - Grilled Canadian Flounder - 3 Stars This flounder is baby size fillets perfectly seasoned and grilled and was ordered with broccoli casserole and a sweet potato. The broccoli casserole was terrible. I don't know if the broccoli was the problem or the cheese but it just tasted old. But really I only ordered it because I thought the picture would look good. I never received my sweet potato, and did not realize it until I started looking at the pictures for this review. So I have to knock a star off for the bad broccoli and the missing potato, but the flounder itself was great but I thought for $14.00 the flounder was a just too small. $17.98 - Broiled Combination Plate - 4 Stars This combination plate is $14.99, unless you choose scallops which adds $2.99 extra. I chose scallops, broiled tuna, grilled veggies and a small salad. Here is where things get complicated. The first tuna I received was disastrously overcooked and dry. I normally never complain at a restaurant, I take what I get and review it, no matter how bad it is. I don't call managers over to complain, I never ask for free food or my money back or even that they fix the problem. After all if they fix the problem, what do I review, the first dish or the second? Well I have decided for now on to review the second! I told my waitress that the tuna was awful, but I would review it or a new fresh piece, the choice was hers. She chose to get me a new piece of tuna. Wise choice! The second piece was an utter dream! Perfectly cooked and seasoned! So for now on Chef Iama Critic is going to have poor item fixed, because it tests the restaurant and everybody wins. Red Velvet Cake - 5 Stars Didn't ask how much it was, I didn't want to know! Anything you put in your mouth that taste this good must be a sin! Strawberry Cheese Cake - 5 Stars I have had cheese cake a thousand times! Well, I thought I had until I had this cheese cake. Then I realized every cheese cake I had before was a fraud! This huge cheese cake is nothing short of a slice of Heaven! I took my female guest home and KEPT this cake. She was not very happy with me........ but, but, but the cake is mine! All mine! hehehahaha

I'd go back!! Good hushpuppies which come free at the start of the meal... All you can eat crab was expensive but the crab legs were big... My only advice is, if you have your own crab eating utensils, bring them... They don't give you a pick or a scoop and I bet you they go through a lot of legs with a lot of it wasted... Everyone else had other things... No one complained. So, like I said.. I'd go back.

Cool lobby, very interesting beachy décor. The food is hot, crispy and fried. It's not sophisticated, but it's pretty good. The hushpuppies rock and the service is pretty attentive.

Excellent quality shrimp & fish. Generous portions. Hush puppies are the very best I've ever had. Reasonably priced. Very pleasant waitress. Highly recommend.

Very disappointing experience. The hostess began by sitting us at a table that we couldn't use a high chair. waited 10 minutes before a server took our drink orders. Once she brought us our drink orders it took another 10 minutes before she took our our order and brought us straws (we asked for them four times). I was served the wrong meal. Most of the meal was just OK, but my steak was horrible. I ordered a medium rare sirloin and received a weird combination of cold and overdone. The steak way over done. When I was paying the hostess neither spoke to me or made eye contact. In general it seemed like our presence was an imposition to the staff. Will not waste money hear again,

Chicken fingers and hush puppies are the best around with a light breading and flavor. It's nothing spectacular but it is fresh, local, large and cheap!

I love the hush puppies and sweet tea. Also, the service is quick so I've been able to go on my lunch break from work in a timely way.

We used to get their take out popcorn shrimp but after a while we got tired of all the French fried potatoes and grease, just too greasy. We decided to go in and checkout their broiled fish but were sadly disappointed. It had no taste, maybe wet cardboard, so we asked the manager what seasoning they cooked it in and he said "none", well, that answered the flavor problem. We stopped going there.

Consistently very good food and service. Every visit is just as good as the last one. There are a number of similar venues around but this one is the best.

Not good at all. There was not one item of my meal I found satisfactory. The baby fried shrimp had a very floury tasting exterior. Even Culvers fried shrimp is better. My Ribeye steak was the worst I ever had. I don't know if the meat is frozen here (they told me it wasn't), or if they just buy the lowest quality meat possible (or both) But it was hardly even worth eating. It didn't taste like it had any seasoning on it. I didn't even finish it, and that's something that never happens! Even my baked potato was terrible! So bad, in fact, that I couldn't even eat it. It had a really nasty consistency /texture, and maybe it was the fake butter they give you, but the flavor was disgusting. I really didn't know it was possible to screw up a baked potato. It looked and tasted boiled. Absolutely dreadful. The service however, was good. And they seemed like they really wanted to provide an acceptable experience, but unfortunately, they fell far short. I really wanted to like this place. The food quality obviously needs some oversight. They should have had a manager come see me, but they dropped the ball there too.
