Went to Yama for lunch service, and they weren't ready for a party of 13, but service and food was excellent, parking was great, food and service excellent.

Nice place to eat. I am surprised to see an excellent sushi house in beaufort since this town is very small. I order the yaki udon with shrimp, very tasty not your salty fare you get from typical sushi place. The only thing I am not sure was if the owner/usher was an actual Japanese. I have been to a lot of Japanese resto and upon hearing the workers/ushers/owner talk and they are either Chinese/Korean. Either way the food I ordered was hot and well balanced. The wife ordered the sushi-sashimi combo and the sashimi is two piece of salmon and octopus. The salmon is a block cut not the traditional sashimi. However it is very good cut, not cold and not warm. All the cuts of fish is very good, I will definitely be back. Only reason why it is 4 stars because of the amount of the sashimi pieces.

Everytime I have been their food has been delicious. I order the hibachi steak and shrimp and their portions are huge and they have great early bird specials for it. My service has always been excellent there. I'm always surprised to not see that they're busier! Definitely would recommend.

This place does it right. They have plenty of room for regular dining and also boast a huge hibachi room. The atmosphere is nice and the restaurant is clean. The staff was very friendly and our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and the rolls. When we asked for a recommendation, she immediately pointed out her favorites without missing a beat. We each ended up getting two rolls. The Firecracker Roll was quite good. It rests in a boat of chili sauce, so it has a nice spicy kick to it. The Naruto Roll was amazing as well and tasted exactly like a crab wonton. I would definitely recommend this place to people and will definitely be going back. They have great daily specials too. We ended up getting $1 off of our large Sake and also 20% off of all rolls. We ended up saving nearly $10. Great experience!

A great, creative and fresh meal, especially if you need a break from heavy southern food. We're just passing through town and were pleasantly surprised by the really nice sushi chef and the caring waitstaff at this family owned place. We're snobby New Yorkers when it comes to sushi and were seriously satisfied by the Jalapeño Yellowtail special (with truffle oil!), mango rainbow roll, and spicy crunchy salmon roll. Chef accommodated all our requests with a smile. Thanks for feeding us!

As someone who used to work at a fancy sushi restaurant in a big city, I am a raw fish snob. I don't eat bad cuts, I don't tolerate poor sanitation, I am quick to turn my nose up at subquality fish. I eat sashimi and that's about it because rice and fancy rolls just get in the way of quality fish, in my opinion. That said, I didn't expect to find a sushi place in this small town that would meet my standards. I figured we'd have to drive to Savannah or Charleston for quality fish. I was thrilled to be wrong. Now, I haven't had much else on their menu. I haven't had their hibachi yet, though it looks good and is fairly priced. But their sushi is very good! High quality fish, high quality preparation. Best ever? No, but it way surpassed my expectations for this small town! Chirashi? Delicious, and packed with more fish than the menu promises! Sushi and sashimi appetizers and combos always seem to come with an extra treat or two (my husband got tamago and tobiko in addition to his sashimi combo last night). The rice is served fresh and warm, not reheated and stale (trust me, I can tell if they've refrigerated their rice from the day before). The miso soup and ginger salad are pretty standard, but very tasty. My father-in-law had one of their fancy rolls, and it was a very fair price for the amount of food on his plate. Not my thing, but their menu looks good, and based on their quality of food preparation for the items I have ordered, I have no doubt it would be tasty. And I do plan to go back for hibachi soon! Looks like fun, and some good high sodium yums!

We haven't eaten yet, so this is strictly based on the lengthy wait. We've been waiting for roughly 35 minutes to have the guy start cooking. Literally no other people in here... Just our table (Hibachi). Possibly their "C" squad working today.

We had hibachi which we all enjoyed. A few of us ordered the filet all cooked to a different temperature. He cooked one wrong and mixed up the rare with the person who ordered medium well, which was cooked medium. The service left something to be desired as well.
