Don't judge the barn by its covers because it was as good as Mr Friendly's price-adjusted. We came with a group of five at about 45minutes till closing. They had our orders served within 10 minutes. As a environmental Canadian, I was disappointed with the Styrofoam cups of water and plastic utensil we were provided. Besides that, I would highly recommend the corn souffle. The deep fried catfish was already all gone. Two of our guests were provided smaller portions of chicken pot pie than expected and the pre-made corn bread, rewarmed in a microwave, was dry but tasted homemade. For the price of $11-12, this was a superb dinner.

So we hopped in the car and drove 2 hours to one of the area's DDD joints. Our first discovery was that this Dive is best enjoyed three seasons (spring, summer, fall), and we were here during the fourth - Our bad. With that we can dismiss comments on decor and ambiance as this is really an outdoor / front porch joint at heart, and is not suited for the winter months. Service was awesome. Five stars. Quick, polite, and welcoming. Despite being down a server for the day, our waitress was on top of things and very attentive. She enjoys her work and that makes all the difference in the world. Food was good - not great, but good. Four stars. We had the pork chop and the Jefferson chicken. The chop was amazing - well seasoned, cooked to perfection, and served timely. The chicken was rather ordinary - But it was homely like something my mother would've made. And it was fresh, delicious, tender and tasty! The sides were a mix. Casseroles (we had the tomato cheddar and the squash) were awesome (really) but cold (really?). The mac-n-cheese (a point of pride for most joints like this) was pretty mediocre. The green beans were tasty. And the cornbread - a standard setter. Lastly, the Tea was spot on and the coconut cake was very good. Recommended. Presentation was sub-par. Two stars. I couldn't get past the styrofoam plates and plastic flatware - ok for a BBQ Dive or a drive in but unexpected for a homey joint like this. Plates were too small, tables sized more for a French cafe, and you might want to use the restroom before you come. All in we enjoyed the food and the experience enough to go back if we're in the area, but not enough to make a special trip again.

Really liked this place. Chicken and dumplings were very good and reasonably priced. Will return.

Update after second visit: customer service is still amazing and above par. The quality of all of the food has also improved and was all on-point tonight. The southern-style cuisine (i.e. pork in the vegetables, Tabasco (?) sauce in the stewed okra & tomatoes, ranch in 2 of the side dishes), and table-service (plastic/styrofoam) aren't to my personal taste or what I personally like in a dining experience, but the food was fresh and well prepared. Bottom line: If you are looking for great service, fresh food, in an environment similar to having a picnic, and aren't concerned about vegetarian or healthy options, then you may really enjoy The Farmer's Shed.

The food was great and the pricing was good as well. I came here with my family at the end of the lunch rush on a Thursday and it was not long before we sat that the server came by to take our order. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the restaurant and the food for the day. Two of us ordered the fish with two sides and we lucked out to have gotten Catfish that was still from the Tuesday menu. It was really good and my parents said they would go back again just because of that. The portioning of the food was good and everyone of us left there full. I even got a piece of apple pie and a jar of honey to go. When I come to visit again I hope to be able to make it back here again, because the shrimp and grits on Friday sound really good. Overall the place was clean and small but cozy like. The people sitting next to us mentioned that this restaurant was featured on the food network 5 years ago and they deserve to be. I was very happy to have picked this place as the only restaurant that I ate at while on my trip from California to visit my family.

Great find in Lexington!! A host of items on the menu, offering something for the whole family. If U like country comfort food, U have found the place. We were seated in a timely manner, food came out hot and delicious. Sweet tea jus the bomb, jus like I like it! Hostess friendly and informative. The restaurant was clean and tidy, having plenty seating. After lunch we bought food and groceries from the them for the next day. Lots of take home bake items to choose from along with cakes and pies. I have found a slice of haven, prices are very reasonable. We will certainly be returning soon and would recommend this facility.

Down home cooking in what looks like grandma's kitchen. I had the most amazing shrimp & grits, cornbread salad and out of this world cast iron skillet cornbread. To my surprise, there was even a jar of pepper vinegar on the table! Cannot wait to go back.

What a little gem this place is!! It is hidden on the north side of Augusta Hwy in a Farmer's market just across from Lexington High School. It really gets busy during the lunch hour but that's not a problem because you can go in for a plate of hot food, eat and leave within 20 minutes from sitting to paying and leaving out the door. Thursday noon - had the special Turkey and Dressing with side of sweet potato casserole and greens with and cornbread. Turkey what extremely juicy and moist, well seasoned and dressing was filling and tasty, also moist and chewy. Greens are AH-mazing!! The greens are seasoned well, piping hot and just made me want more! Sweet potato casserole is as you would expect on a Thanksgiving dinner, just sweetened enough to satisfy that sweet tooth and well balanced for the entire meal. Service is swift and quick and staff is courteous and extremely hospitable! I really cannot wait to go back!!! Did I mention it was also featured on Triple D?!?!? (Diners, Drive ins and Dives)

It's pretty good, but not good enough for $10 for lunch. The atmosphere is more suited to a $5 or $6 lunch.

Great food and service! This is home cooking at its finest. I'm not sure if the negative reviews knew what they were going for. This is casual and homey.

Love this place, the food is great and the selection in the market side is huge! They always have something interesting, and their prices are reasonable. Preserves, honey, candy, plants and potting supplies. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and are more than willing to answer questions!

Amazing fresh food. Gourmet preparation and presentation (even on a paper plate!) No, this ain't no fancy, white table cloth dining room experience, but the food will make you think it should be! Not open on the weekends, so MAKE TIME FOR IT DURING THE WEEK!

Awesome little hole in the wall local place. Lots of low country sc comfort foods. All the foods good and the prices are pretty good also. Only downside is that it is a little far away from town and the dining room is a tad small. The staff are really nice though. The pork chop and shrimp and grits are a must try. Great place to take the family.

I loved the food. Reminded me of my grandpas cooking with lots of flavor. Gotta go past the pottery/ veggie stand and through the little white doors. Food served quick since it's daily specials but comes out good and hot. Served with plastic wear and plate. Cornbread was amazing an sweet!!

Our family of 5 went to The Farmer's Shed for lunch today, Friday. 1 hr drive from Augusta, GA. Shrimp & grits was a hit with my 2 daughters. Wife had a baked chicken breast with mushroom & broccoli sauce. She liked it. Other daughter had the baked salmon patty; a little salty for her taste; quick fix with lemon wedges. I had the 4 side dishes. Beside the shrimp & grits, all the sides were winner. They also had special sides; carrot & raisin salad - like a sweet coleslaw; cranberry salad - more like a cranberry jello, tasted great. Service was 5-star; multiple waitresses stopped by & checked on us multiple times; asked if it was our 1st time & where we came from; very friendly & warm service. Older couple gave us their bigger table & moved to smaller table; older man was a nice gentleman; he said it was his 1st time & will return; he also had the shrimp & grits. We visited the store afterward; bought some local honey & peanut brittle; also bought a grape tomato hanging basket ($10); the sales lady said they've been picking the tomatoes off these plants & selling them separately; when we got home, we picked 18 tomatoes, cut in halves & added basil into leftover alfredo penne - girls ate it up, said fresh grape tomatoes were awesome. Almost forgot, we also had the coconut cake & strawberry cake. Strawberry cake was great & unique. Coconut cut was standard. Both tasted homemade. One more thing, portion was generous especially the side dishes. Overall, great experience & great southern home cooking; can't ask for more. We will be back.

I have to wonder if the DDD bias is weighing in a little bit here (like it does at other DDD locales I've eaten at). Don't get me wrong, the food was ok, but just ok; definitely not 5, or even 4, stars. I went with the intentions of getting shrimp 'n grits, since it was a Friday, but the waitress talked me into getting the Jefferson chicken instead. On the side I got mac 'n cheese (I can't pass up mac 'n cheese) and cornbread salad with a slice of cornbread. The chicken breast turned out quite dry and the 'stuffing' was quite subtle in flavor; bland, even. Olive oil was the prominent flavor in this entree. The mac 'n cheese was pretty good and piping hot. The cornbread stuffing and cornbread itself was decent. Then I decided to try the desert and opted for the 'chocolate delight'. It was nothing more than chocolate pudding (the flavor of which was identical to Jell-O pudding) layered with vanilla pudding, whipped cream and chopped pecans. With desert and water it came out to nearly $13. Then we loaded up in the truck to head back to the office and, before we even left the parking lot, all 3 of us were hit with the urgency to "get back", if you know what I mean... The drive to downtown Cola was an especially long one...

I was on my way down to Charleston, but I cannot pass up a Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives location.... especially if it is only 30 miles out of the way, very affordable, and is on the path of my only trip in South Carolina in my life thus far. The drive, the atmosphere, and the people make this eatery worthwhile. The food overall only came up to my "par" standards, but I loved my experience here. I went on the perfect day; the sides were unique, and shrimp and grits was an entree. Actually, the chicken and dumpings and meatloaf day would have pleased me as well. I am happy with any Southern grub. Normally, I give major props to using super local ingredients, but the food just was not that special here. The tasso gravy on the S&G was by far the best I have ever had, but the grits were mediocre. The gravy had this simple creamy, yet savory and complex mouthfeel. The shrimp were soft, sweet, and tender; near perfect. The sides were disappointing. The butter beans were one-dimensional in flavor; fairly bland. The macaroni and cheese was boring, and the cheese attribute fell flat; also, I hate lukewarm Southern sides, which is what the macaroni and cheese was. The tomato and cheddar casserole was moist and flavorful, but as with the mac and cheese, I did not like the lukewarm temperature. The coleslaw was a bit too watery and sweet. All in all, I had a great dinner here; and it was only $8.50 a plate. Absolutely make this a priority if you are within a 100 mile radius. They have a little board that lets you pin where you came from to enjoy their grub, and people travel nationwide to take part in this greatness. Head on over, but do not expect to blown away by the fodder.

Had to find my way to this place after seeing it on Drive-ins and Dives also. It was some goooooood eaten! I went on a Thursday which makes it either Pot Roast day or Turkey and Dressing day! I went Turkey and Dressing with Mac & Cheese and Greens. All of it top notch...I dare say best Turkey and Dressing I've had. This was my first try with Greens and they where pretty darn good also. This place is worth the drive outside of Columbia to get there. I'll make sure to go back. Tip: Don't be in a hurry to eat and run...that ain't their style and the service is laid back country style!

Wanted a good lunch, non-chain spot for lunch on our way to Charleston. Yelp never fails to save the day and I was even more interested after reading this place was on diners, drive-ins, and dives. This raises the bar for "meat and 3" places. The sides list is vast. The cornbread salad wowed me. My SIL raved about the tomato pie and my brother loved the shrimp and grits. This place hit the spot.

Let me first say when I drove up to this place, I was a little worried. It looked more like a garden center and didn't see a place to eat anywhere. My wife and I walked in and just kept looking until we finally ran into a small cozy kitchen type room - like a grandmother's kitchen. Stiil a little skeptical, we sat down the the workers welcomed us with open arms. And the food was great. Everyday is a different special with 3 main dish selections and comes with 2 sides and corn bread or biscuit. I had the pot roast - very, very tender - and my wife had the turkey with dressing - also delicious. The sweet potato casserole and collard greens are a must. I wasn't wild about the corn bread but that's ok - next time i will try the biscuit. And the homeade lemonade!!! If you are in the Columbia/Lexington area, you must stop. Good food, decent price and friendly place. Just like home!!!

Excellent! We went for dinner and it was delicious. I had the ham, macaroni and cheese and green beans. With a piece of cornbread. The ham was thick cut and real ham! Generous portions, good prices and great Southern service. Worth the short drive.

We stopped at the Farmer's shed on the way to a DDD weekend in Charleston. It was totally worth the detour from I26. I have read some of the other reviews that say they weren't "blown away" by the food. I don't know what they expected....if you want good down home Soutthern cooking - you can't do much better than this place. If you want a gourmet meal - go somewhere else. I had the shrimp and grits - one of my favorites - and I have had it all over the South, including Home Restaurant in Atlanta - I must say - Farmer's Shed shrimp and grits with the tasso style gravy was different from most and ranked near the top. My wife had the 4 sides plate - among her choices she loved the greens and the tomato and cheddar casserole. We had some strawberry shortcake for dessert with freshly picked strawberries in February. What a treat. Portions are generous and the servers are friendly and attentive. Our only regret is that this place is not closer to where we live. We'll return next time we pass near Columbia.

Took my Mom & Dad here after I saw them on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. And I wasn't disappointed the food was well worth the wait. They may have the best greens I've ever had. This is a place I'll be going to for a long, long time. Be sure to checkout the market as well I bought some killer strawberries and some great jam. This place is home cookin done right.

WOW!! This place had amazing food! A home cooked southern meal with larger portions! I did everything I could to clean my plate! It was so good. We tried a couple different meals and not matter what we tried we liked it! If you are near this is a must stop!!!

I would like to preface this review by saying that I would really like to give it a 3.5, but that is not an option here and I rounded up because it is definitely better than a 3. I'm aware this restaurant was on the tv show hosted by that fella that is probably really nice, but tries way too hard. The only other restaurant I've eaten at that he has featured on his television show would've been a 1 star from me, so I don't let his show have any bearing on whether I visit an establishment. The menu here changes daily, which I can imagine keeps the kitchen staff on their toes. It gives the impression of a farm to table restaurant and while I'm sure they do use some fresh ingredients unless they have massive stores of frozen and/or canned produce it isn't possible everything is coming off the farm. The Farmer's Shed is a better than average meat and three. I've been here on two occasions and had some dishes that were really good and some that were just ok. If you are there on a Monday, the chicken and dumplings are really good even compared to some homemade. They will blow the chicken and dumplings out of the water that you would get from that southern cookin' juggernaut always located by the interstate with the huge front porch and kitschy made in China wares peddled inside. The staff here is very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is located approximately 4 miles off I-20. If you are travelling through the area it is definitely worth the short trip off the interstate. The food is good and served quickly, so you can be back on your way.
