It was very pricey but the food and the service was great. We were presented with the meat and were able to choose which cut and how thick we wanted it. It was cooked exactly how we wanted it and the sides were also good. The parking was a bit small. The location is nice and off the main road.

Regrettably tonight's experience included a New York Strip steak that was practically surrounded with gristle. After obtaining another knife from the waiter the steak was still unmanageable and I had to stop trying to eat it. As a result of this I learned that the restaurant no longer cuts their own strip steaks so they cook whatever is delivered to them. Others in the party had the prime rib which was great, and on other occasions the filet was found to be excellent. But beware the New York Strip.

Sad example of a great place not living up to its reputation. Salad bar was as inspired as a 1980s steakhouse chain restaurant. Steak ordered medium came out almost rare, was sent back and returned to the table well done. And this is a steak house. What a disappointment. Sautéed vegetable (broccoli ) was pretty bland. For the price and all the people's rave reviews, I was utterly disappointed. If you are going to go, be prepared to wait a long time for something you could have gotten from any of the big chains (ie Outback) for about 75% of the price. The building was cool, but so is a museum.

Excellent steak. The interior is a little dated but the meat is great. A not bad salad bar either. The big gimmick is a big slab of meat is brought to the table and you pick the the thickness of your cut. It's then cut right in front of you.

My wife surprised me with a special treat. She got a deal off of living social ( they go fast). Peddlers steakhouse is a beautiful, quaint restaurant with great service. The menu is very simple though a bit pricey. I love unsweetened iced tea and this place had some of the best I've had in a while. The salad bar was loaded with some great options, I particularly enjoyed the creamy garlic Italian dressing. On to the meat. Wow. Definitely the place to go for steak in Greenville. Great favors and it was cooked just as I ordered it, medium. Huge baked potato on the side was a great side. Topped it all off with creme brûlée. A few tips. Be prepared to wait. Like a lot. We waited 30 minutes to be seated and that was less than we had planned. Still worth the wait, just expect it. They don't take reservations. Also if you want bread, it's off to the side with the salad bar under the heating lamp. As new comers we assumed that bread was brought out by the servers like other places do. The atmosphere is very pleasant and authentic. Feels like stepping into a different time and place. The guests next to our table compared it to Cracker Barrel. It's nothing of the sort, much more genuine than the commercial franchise. We just smirked.

All I can say is wow. This place has everything.... the ambiance, the location, the food, etc. The building has so much character and the staff is extremely friendly. If you are looking for a unique, quaint date location, look no further.

Super old timey steakhouse. Cut at your table ribeye. Old style salad bar. Parking can be pain if they are super busy. Always great service.

Very overrated! The New York Strip has a nice flavor IF you can chew it up! Tough as a boot. The service is terrible. If it had been up to me, their tip would have been equivalent to their service.

NOT good! Super expensive and although they have service they sure don't know what's the meaning of fine dinning. Packaged salad bar (all the items!) And the 1 star will go for good service. For the price they charge here you can have a much better quality food in downtown greenville.....The shrimp platter is $25 the shrimp is good but the sides are weak! Do not recommend this place!

2 stars for the cozy setting, love all the brick, fire place and smokey wood smell. Steaks were great, salad bar was great except for the frozen fruit medley, would have preferred fresh cut!!! Service needs lots of training, took the the experience to a mediocre level of dining. Ask for dinner rolls and instead of getting some for our table the waitress replied you can get bread at the salad bar, thought service would be a lot better but felt like service standards where poor. Don't want to go back.

Typically we've had good experiences at The Peddler, as it's one of Greenville's "signature" steakhouses and we enjoy the feel and the history of the place, but last night was not one of them. Showed up at 6:45 requesting a table for 2 and was quoted a 20-25 minute wait. No big deal. By 7:45 we were still waiting and on our 2nd round of drinks. We waited an hour and were finally seated on the patio. My husband got the 14 oz ribeye and I got the queen cut prime rib. Both were served barely warm - bordering room temperature - but we had waited so long it did not seem worth complaining about. I got a sweet potato as my side, requested some cinnamon and sugar (which usually comes WITH the side) and 17 minutes later was still waiting on that. Our server had forgotten it and had probably 10 other tables she was tending to, who also needed things like cream for their once-hot coffee, to-go boxes, and checks. She brought out a new, hot sweet potato, but before and after that, neither of us could get any attention for refills on water, wine, or beer. We would have flagged down a bus-boy, but he was too busy on his phone/texting in the service station. If he'd been helping the server who probably tips him out, she may not have been so far behind with her tables, but he could not be bothered. She was swamped, and that's understandable - surely not her fault if they were understaffed on a Wednesday night. At this point we were hoping to speak to a manager as the service was bordering terrible, but there was no one to be seen/found, so we decided against getting dessert (which was a non-issue anyway, because the server had already brought us our check). By the time we actually saw a manager, it was only because he was making his rounds telling everyone in the restaurant the credit card machine was down and you could either pay with cash or they could write your card number and info down and run it later. Rough night for The Peddler...after this experience it's going to be tough justifying spending $120 for 2 here, which is sad, as we'd prefer to support a Greenville landmark.

My husband loves this place. I think my outdoor furniture is more comfy than theirs I like my bread warm not cold , I love their chicken think it's great. Slow service and just being uncomfortable in those chairs didn't get it for me. We have grew up over here so it's like a landmark over on this side of town. Think everyone should try it once , it may be for you , you may love it you may not. Think everyone should try it once.

I like this place. The atmosphere is quirky and cozy with a lot of character. The bar area smells of many fires in the huge, stone hearth. The bar itself was full of "regulars" and it seemed like the bartender has worked there all of his life. Went on a Wednesday and did not have to wait long for a table although parking was very limited. Hostess and wait staff were friendly although they could have been a bit more attentive and professional. The salad bar , which comes with every meal, was extensive and fresh with something for everyone. Ordered the Rib eye which you can order from 10 oz up and can be hand cut at your table if you like. My companion and I both ordered 16 oz and declined the table side butchering. In hindsight, I should have watched the butcher as my companion's 16oz was noticeably larger than my 16 oz. The steak was not extraordinary but was perfectly cooked and the meat was very tasty. Large baked potato complimented nicely. All in all it was a very good meal and well worth the price when you combine the food, service, and atmosphere. I will definitely come back here to try some of the other cuts they offer and maybe see how big of a rib eye they can serve me. I'm thinking maybe 24 oz?

My medium-rare prime rib with a side of fresh chopped horseradish was AMAZING. The Peddler smokes their prime rib for 14 hours before it hits your plate. The ambiance of the old building in the woods on the top of a hill is wonderful. This is a really charming/cozy place for a date. Be sure to visit Jimmy the bartender while waiting for your table.

Over cook your steaks waitress can't get the manager to talk to you managers young and dumb wants to know why you're full of salad and you should pay that $11 because you had to send your state back because they burnt it

A classic old school steakhouse. No menus...the waitress just comes up and asks you what cut of meat you want, then the "meat cutter" comes out with a slab of meat and asks you how thick to cut. Price is based on what he cuts. Sides are, of course, a baked potato...vegetables if you want them, but you have to ask. A fairly standard salad bar comes with the meal...certainly not fancy, but it has all the standards. Morton's or Ruth's Chris it isn't...but if you want a nicely cooked steak, dark wood surroundings and to be surrounded by folks who have been going there forever, this place is a classic.

Second & last visit. Young, inexperienced waiter...not rude but not educated about the menu or bar. Ordered 12 oz strip...uhhh cut uneven...looked mangled......goes from about to 1 inch to over 3 inches thick...so therefore cooking to med-rare is impossible.(this happened both visits) Salad bar full of what seems to be pre-packaged salads. Not worth the wait or $...and you will wait!

I've been visitng The Peddler now since the early 80's. My husband and I look at The Peddler as our 'Special Occasion' restaurant of choice. They don't offer reservations, so sometimes the wait is a little long, but it's worth it because the ambiance, customer service and food are excellent! It reminds me of an old pub in England, as there are several fireplaces which makes it feel very warm and comfortable. We enjoy sitting in the bar waiting for our table knowing what is about to happen next! The salad bar is a meal in itself! It's hard not to load up on all the salad bar items because everything is so good! There is no menu, but your server will tell you what is available and you get to pick out your own steak! I've never had a bad meal and we will go back again very soon! Hmmmm.... Maybe for my birthday this weekend? ;) I highly recommend The Peddler for its charm, delicious food and excellent service!
