Gave it so many tries, NEVER again! Food is just so-so but way over priced, service is terrible!!!! Possibly the worst I've ever had, and I have patience being in the industry. The last time my husband and I only called in to go food, thinking we will by pass the bad service, got home and we received the wrong order, called to notify them, they told me "Big Deal!", I was shocked, ask to bring it back and they said "no, bc we aren't busy and we wanna close". Never again!!!!

Food: 4 Kings Fried Rice. It was pretty good, but the meat is very bland/plain. No marinade on the chicken/steak and definitely no seasoning. Could have significantly improved the meal had the meat had some sort of seasoning or marinade. Rice is a little crunchy/burnt on some pieces which I liked. Probably would get something different next time with more fresh vegetables. Essentially just fried rice and plain cooked meat, meh. Bathroom: it had to have been a joke. Soap was obviously just water refilled, no paper towels and a sauce bottle on the counter next to the toilet?? It was such a joke lmao I couldn't believe it I had to take pictures.

Pretty great food! Even better customer service. We will continue to visit this place!

First time I have tried Thaicoon. I have always driven by it on the way to my apartment but never stopped by until now. The food is pretty decent. The location is great for Furman students and anyone in the area who wants Thai food. That being said, the food is good. It isn't super great and amazing, but it is pretty good. I would give it another star, but the pricing in my opinion is a little too pricey for the quality and taste of the food. For their prices, I expected my food to taste better than it did. All in all, I would go here again if I didn't feel like driving further for better tasting Thai food.

Just arrived at this place.. On a Friday. The regular dining area was a 45 minute wait. So I decided to sit at the bar and order my food. I ordered the garlic add shrimp, and a peach long island that the bartender recommended. So 5 minutes go by, and no peach Long Island. Other patrons enter the bar and sat next to me, ordered a drink and received it instantly received their drink. 10 more minutes pass and I order a water, and he brings me a Long Island, and doesn't apologize about the wait, I told him I changed my mind and I will continue on the food order.. My food ended up taking over an hour to receive, and my order was incorrect. I had a few bites and left the place. The waiter only changed me a few dollars but I was very disappointed with the experience.

Unfortunately I was not very impressed. They messed up our order twice and we had to have it fixed. Food was average but nothing to be excited about. Their sushi was great and pretty much the only good thing about the place.

Food was good, service was very slow. The waitress was missing most of the meal. The food took over 40 min to get to us. However the food was good. I had the pad Thai. I ordered mine at a 10 spiciness level, and it was good. Still not at the spice level I was hoping for. If I had time for a meal that wasn't rushed I'd go back.

Great food. The menu was on point but the service is horrible. I had to chase down a different server to get refills. Our server was too busy with his friends or cleaning up to close than to actually make sure we were okay. He even had to ask us 3x what we were ordering bc he didn't write it down and forgot. Lastly when I needed a pen for my Credit card receipt - instead of politely handing it over, he just threw it on the table. Maybe I'm being picky now bc of my bad experience. The food though was A+.

Thaicoon is hot or not. I have enjoyed many of their dishes over the years since it opened but it's historically plagued by spotty service. They still serve the best massaman curry I ever had.

Second time , last time, food is overpriced , with overly dramatic descriptions , I tried the duck which was roasted and deboned and then fried . Apparently they missed a few bones ... Bartender(waiter) was borderline oblivious to the fact he had a table to provide service to , we actually had to hold the empty beer bottles up and say "bartender" Maybe its just good marketing but I had alot higher expectations

Has become inconsistent and unreliable in recent months. Most of the times we visit they are out of draft beer. Staff just shake their head saying it wasn't delivered. Every time? Come on! Also, you never know what you'll get when you order your meals. The spice heat is all over the place. Sometimes a 3 is so mild that I need to ask for more. Other times that same 3 is so hot I cannot eat it. Their standards are unreliable. Bobby (the owner) seems to be focused on his other restaurant and no longer taking proper care of this. Maybe it is not doing well ... hence the lack of draft beer. No matter what, it is not what it used to be.

This place is serviceable Thai. Decent sushi, ok Thai. Service can be a little spotty, but all in all is fine for a decent lunch.

Average sushi some nights are better than others. The service is not the best partly due to hiring people with no experience. Last time we visited our waiter would disappear only to see him flirting with the girls out front. Seems to be a lot of student help. With limited choices in the area it is a decent place if you don't feel like driving. Kitchen closes too early.

Hubby and I came in after church and we had a very hungry, cranky toddler on hand who absolutely had his heart set on noodles. They don't typically offer a child's portion of noodles so we ordered some fried rice for him and he was SO disappointed. He cried and was just very put off from then on out. I was worried that he was ruining the entire atmosphere for everyone else who was there. We were lucky enough to be visited by the owner who surprised us with a specially made order of pad Thai noodles for my son, in addition to the fried rice we ordered, so he could have his choice. We were so touched and blessed, not to mention the food was wonderful! We've been looking for great Thai since we left Oklahoma City and we are so happy to have found Thaicoon. Can't wait to try the sushi! Great service, great food. Two thumbs up!

Inconsistent and unappetizing. Also cleanliness is questionable at best. We will not eat here ever again.

Yummy curry. I like spicy food so got a 7/10, which is spicier then average, was the perfect temperature. Good seating, some sushi as well, nice place for dinner.

My wife and I drove from Simpsonville just to eat here. We absolutely love this place and the food is great. I got the 3 King Fried rice at spiciness level #5. It wasn't spicy at all which was kind of disappointing, however the flavor and taste made up for it. My wife got the beef pad Thai and she loved it too. The only other slight against thaicoon was the fact they were out of most of their beer selections when we went. Other than that we had a great time! Oh, also I recommend the cheesecake spring rolls. They were delicious!

The best place for sushi so far, since we moved to Greenville and a place I could recommend without a doubt. It is quiet, service was good, the sushi was fresh and tasty. Enough said! :)

ugh! is there no zero star? Thaicoon, how could you crush my heart like so? I've thoroughly enjoyed your Chicken Pad Thai for the past 3 years. I was craving sushi, and I ordered 3 different sushi's for lunch to share with my mom. I phoned in a Spider roll, Red Dragon roll, and California roll. I know I can be incredibly rude at making this following statement "the sushi chef needs to go back to school." But believe me, it was incredibly disappointing and rather upsetting that I experienced this from of all places, Thaicoon. I expected more from you. I am not asking the fish to be caught right off the ocean and served to me right away. In fact, I ordered rolls, not sushi. I spent $30.00 and all I got was 3 lousy different rolls that were horribly made. The California roll had barely any crab meat, missing cucumber, the avo was dark, the rice was cold and sticky (and not in a good way), and there were only 3 pieces and each piece was about the size of a Pellegrino/diet coke bottle cap. Then, the spider roll was no where to be found. Instead I got some spicy crab meat with cold sticky rice, oh and there were 4 pieces of that, the rolls were super thin. Lastly, my red dragon roll was smaller than the average size of California rolls. Practically, there were 8 california rolls with a piece of fish on top. It's not like I phoned it in an hour before and they had to put it in the fridge, but why was everything INCLUDING RICE so flippin' cold?! AND I PAID 30 BUCKS?!?!?!?! REALLY?! Are you telling me that if I had stayed and ate the meal there, ordered a soda, and tipped, it would've came up approximately 40 bucks?! I've had better rolls at Tsunami's, Irishai, and at Sushi Masa. The California Rolls, Spider Rolls, and Dragon Rolls are my go to rolls. How is it that just few weeks ago, when I ordered the same thing from Irishai, my total was less than that, but I had more than double the food, and the rolls were actually just made?! Please Thaicoon, please have a heart to heart talk with your sushi chef, or get rid of sushi on your menu. I am so disappointed in you.

ThaiCoon is quite tasty. A great place for the Furman students and the surrounding dwellers near Paris Mt. The deco is pleasant thanks to the owner who does most, if not all, of his paintings and creativites. He seems to bust his tail since I always see him there. They can spice it up if need be or to your likings. Take out is always an option as well. Great service and rather quick to their order. Word of note: don't order the f'wied w'ice. Not that I ever do order fried rice since I can make the meanest dish of one, but everytime my in-laws order it, it is dripping with oil and .... more oil. It's like f'wied w'ice lip gloss. Also, their hot / spicy really isn't hot by any standards. So jack it up if you like that sort of thing.

Was flying from North Carolina to Arizona. The flight we had was out of Greenville SC. We got there about three hours early. Decided to eat something since our connection in Chicago was tight. I should of known better but I want Asian food. Looked around and this one had a pretty good rating. My wife got a sampler plate. Food was cooked and was of very good quality. It came with several dipping sauces. Very bland, no spice. Definitely would not recommend. They had sushi nigiri. What was I thinking. Ordered Tuna, yellow tail, scallops. Tuna and yellow tail meat was very good. Scallops smelled pretty fishy. The rice pads were the worst I have ever seen. The rice was way over cooked. Was very mushy. My recommendation is is you want sushi, find somewhere else.

Thaicoon is amazing. I am a Furman student who eats Thaicoon at least twice a week. My first two years of school I always ordered the Pineapple Chicken fried rice and the shrimp tempura roll is the best i've ever had. I've since started branching out a little and love the Thai Market cuisines (love the cashew chicken). Amazing food and you can customize however you like. And prices arent bad for the amount of food you get. If you are considering trying Thaicoon, I promise you wont regret it.

Hey whatsup? Thaicoon is assey. Seriously, not so much. Very very average. The spicy noodles were soggy and drenched in sauce, not chewy and fried like they should be. Server was a little obsequious. Sushi not super fresh or flavorful. All very 'meh' but for 'nice' prices. And no Sunday booze, which really ruins things for my bigs. And hey what's with the name? What does a tycoon have to do with Thailand or Thai food? Or is it supposed to be Thaiphoon? Or is it a raccoon? Thank you I know.

I miss this place!!! I came to this place when it first opened and kept going back when it expanded...and when it got a full bar....at school, Thaicoon was definitely ordered in my North Village apartment at least once a week. Best Thai food I've had...nothing in Chicago even remotely compares to Thaicoon. It's so sad that the best Asian food I've ever had outside of Asia was in the upstate of SC. Bobby knew me and "Tiger Eyes" whenever we came in. Loved the Massaman Curry, the Red Curry, the Green Curry, and was super thrilled when they started offering sushi. I definitely took this place for granted when I was at Furman...used to gripe that they didn't deliver but now I wish I went more! Now that I live in the "big city"...I can now appreciate how inexpensive this place was when it comes to awesome Thai and sushi. Can you expand and open a Chicago location, please?

Not good. Overpriced. Small portions. Left hungry. Didn't give 1 star because I had worse before. How can you leave a restaurant hungry? Blah . . . Won't be going back. Oh right, the food -- meh!

Thaicoon was one of my favorite places to eat when I was in college. It was the one place that everyone could agree to go. Thaicoon was known for huge portions, delicious food, reasonable prices, and a great social atmosphere. Unfortunately, I think that Thaicoon has changed in the past few years. The portions are the same--but the quality of food has gone down, and the prices have gone up (at least for sushi and appetizers). And the past couple of times I've been... no one else has been there. Part of the fun of Thaicoon is choosing a spiciness level (1-10). The best part about Thaicoon's spiciness is that it doesn't interfere with the flavor--you're not just eating fire. Or at least that's how it used to be. On a recent trip to Thaicoon with a group of friends, our spiciness levels didn't seem to match up with the numbers we ordered (4 was very spicy, 7 was not spicy, another 4 was mildly spicy--and we all tried a bite of each to compare). Pad thai was soggy. Basil fried rice was bland. The chicken was tough and dry. Everyone ate about half their food and boxed up the rest. In the parking lot we all kind of sighed and whispered words like "Mediocre" and "Disappointing." I used to like when Bobby the owner would come around and chat with the tables. He's a funny dude--and he definitely added to the Thaicoon experience. I didn't see him the last two times I've been there. I guess it's just another change that I didn't like. My last visit to Thaicoon was like seeing an old friend, only to realize that my old friend had changed and become someone I don't want to be friends with anymore. Please, Thaicoon, be who I remember you to be.

Give it the old college try. Actually I still come here a bit two years out of college but it is true that Thaicoon is frequented by many Furman students. I've come here way too many times to count and I normally get some variation of fried rice. The pineapple chicken fried rice is so good except I don't like cashews. The times that I have been disappointed by Thaicoon (which hasn't been very often) are when I don't get a high enough spice level. It's always a risk to go a little higher especially when their spice levels aren't consistent but I pretty much always get a 5 now. Also I will say sometimes the chicken is dry but the last time I went it was perfectly moist (sorry for all you people out there who don't like the word moist). Make sure you get the Thaicoon sauce! Also the strawberry lemonade is really yummy. If you're a wine fan, make sure to come on Tuesday nights for half price bottle of wine night. Thaicoon, doing it Asian style.

My husband has a history here...apparently ate here a LOT when he first lived/worked in the area. Anyhoo... I've been here many times now. Good, consistent, freshly cooked Thai food. Really cold beer. What more do you need to know? I'm sure I'll be back many, many more times...

Thaicoon rocks! The food, value, and tastiness factor cannot be beat. I've had curry all over the country, and this place is definitely at the top of my list! I've watched this place grow from a small take-out place to a full service restaurant. Thus I get a little nostalgic about it. Thaicoon Bobby (the owner) is a bit quirky, but he is genuinely amiable and will stop at nothing to make sure your experience is second to none. Probably the best part about the curry is that you give a number from 1 to 10 as to how spicy (hot) you want it to be. In college, people became known by their Thaicoon ordering numbers. I of course was a spicy 10. I had a friend who never went above a 4 and needless to say it was fodder for much ridicule.

Took forever to get us seated after being overlooked for two college girls. They finally seated us and NO ONE came by after that. Seriously, no one even said hello, no one brought us water...but they did bus a table near us. I think that is the last time I will frequent Thaicoon. Even other patrons shared their frustration with the service. One table noted our frustration and called us over to say they ahd been there for TWO hours and were trying to get their check to get the heck outta there.

I've been eating at Thaicoon Ricefire since Bobby first opened the Furman location a few years ago. That first incarnation was what Bobby called "Thai Market Cuisine." You placed your order at the front counter and took a seat and the food was brought to your table. It was very tasty and fairly inexpensive. Since then, the restaurant has expanded three times (that I can count) and the Market concept has given way to full table service, including a host/hostess greeting you at the door (although you can still order take-out, thankfully). The food has remained outstanding. I've had a number of things from the menu (including traditional Thai cuisine, Sushi, and more contemporary creations), and the food remains consistently amazing. I've never once been disappointed with the food and I've tried items from all over their menu. The only disappointment I've had is with the portion sizes when I've ordered take-out. They're not very consistent, even though the price remains the same. Bobby, the owner, can be a bit quirky at times, but he is constantly thinking about the future of his restaurant and how he's going to raise the bar next. Thaicoon, in short, is a great little jewel in North Greenville.

I am lucky enough to live minutes away from this fabulous restaurant. I highly suggest the Tom Kha Gai and the Green Curry (I love it w/ tofu...soaks up the flavors!) It's a good night when it's a Thaicoon night!!

I've made better Thai food at home. If you want bland, boring, wannabe Thai food then have at it, otherwise find somewhere else.

  • Phillip W.

Decent food at an above average cost. They sure do give you a lot of food, but it's nothing to rant about. I've tried the Pineapple Chicken fried rice, and that's the only dish I remember. My bias: I'm not a big fan of most Asian fast food, but this is a step above "entry level" fast food. My biggest problem is that dishes average around $15.

Hear so many good things about this place, and was very excited to go. First time i went, it was delicous. Nice atmosphere and excellent service. Stopped going for a few months. And now I'm not sure i like it as much. Decided to get take out for five people. Lady over the phone was very nice. Picked up the food and headed back to the house (I literally live 3 minutes away). Flavor has completely changed and the spiciness was somehow uneven. One bite is bland and the next was intense. Maybe its because we ordered take out, but it just wasn't good. I'm giving it three stars for now, and once I eat there again, I'll update accordingly.

This is probably one of the last places I would eat before succumbing to the apocalypse. The menu has a fantastic variety for meat-eaters and vegetarians alike, and the 10-point scale for spice is okay for wimps all the way up to crazy people. The prices are reasonable too. You really have an opportunity to decide to splurge or just have an everyday meal. I order the same thing every time (I love a place that knows how to prepare tofu!), my boyfriend likes to branch out a little more... and he's never been disappointed in a dish. I've never done the sushi bar part of the experience, but if their sushi is anywhere as good as their main Thai menu items... then no worries. The interior is gorgeous and the atmosphere is casual and very very hip. The owner is there most of the time, and he's just a really pleasant guy. Make sure to visit around the Christmas season to see his copious collection of Nutcrackers. Sometimes, he'll even give one away to the kids just for the heck of it. The staff are attentive and friendly with a hip, youthful energy you would expect in a bigger college town. For its size, Greenville has a surprising number of Thai restaurants, and this is definitely the best.

I've never been a fan of Thai food in the US. For some reason, it gets majorly lost in translation. This place is so good! I took half of my food to go, but ended up eating it later that night because it just tasted that good. Our server was really nice and helpful. I also liked that you could specify a level of heat. I'm not huge on super spicy, but my husband is, so we could each get something to our taste. It rocked. The sushi was simple and cheap, not spectacular, but good. I like that you can mix and match a few cheap pieces, just for a little side dish.
