It's cheap and the quality of the food reflects that. It's an institution in Greenville because it's been here so long and people have gone here all their lives, this sentimental attachment keeps them coming back. Which is fine, it takes all kinds. If you like fast, cheap, simple, low quality mexi fare, then give it a shot. If that's not what you are in the mood for, stay away.

Love this place! Cheap food that taste good and the fastest service in town. Friendly staff and the owner works there getting his hands dirty right along side his crew whichmakes things very consistent!

This place is tops when it comes to Mexican fast food. Skip the place with the bell! Family owned and operated, Taco Casa offers daily specials as well as a huge selection from their menu. Sometimes the chicken items can be a little salty but other than that, there is nothing negative to say. The food comes out fast and fresh. Get here early for lunch! I have noticed that the tacos, burritos, etc. seem to have double the meat that the Bell gives you. The prices can't be beat either. There is nothing fancy here because fancy is not needed. The food is great, the sauce selection is perfect (watch out on the hot ones!!), and the service is great. You can tell the workers care about their Casa. I dig this place and encourage you to stop in for a quick and delicious bite. This place is cash only, so don't forget to hit the ATM!

  • Tommy L.

Fast Fresh and Good have been going there for years and it is simple and good

    (5)
  • Trina M.

Good, simple American Mexican food. Simple prices and quick for lunch, if you can find parking. Not nearly as good as Chuy's but a step up from Corona.

  • Barbara W.

Oh...my...gosh. Seriously terrible. Clearly, this place has a loyal following since it is always packed. After 4 years in Greenville, I finally stopped in on a whim to give it a try. After one bite, I figured I'd just ordered the wrong thing (chicken). I reached over and sampled from my husband's plate and it was just as bad. To be fair, I sampled a bit of everything. Nothing earned a second bite, even though I was quite hungry. Gah! No.

My gosh, people...get off your high horses! Food Snobs, stay away...this is not for you! Taco Casa is a true gem in Greenville. This is a lunch place that is affordable and the food is served quickly. I order whatever the daily lunch special is and enjoy every bite! Tuesday is my favorite day at Taco Casa because of the special. A true landmark in Greenville!

I'm not sure why Casa gets only 3 stars on Yelp - likely because it's not a place for food snobs. But if you want the best tacos / Mexican food truck fare this side of Union Square, this is the place. The guys that run this place are fantastic - they've been doing this for years. The food quality is consistently good. Anyone who writes a bad review for it just doesn't know what good is. Best tacos in Greenville. Period.

    (5)
  • Melanie C.

I really wanted to like this place. Truly I did. However that was not the case. Why it is always packed, can only point to the fact that a meal complete with a drink will cost you under $5. The meat has zero flavor. It tasted like I imagine paper pulp would've. A signature item "the big red" is covered in tomato sauce and then either a slice of American cheese, or odd tasting cheese sauce. Neither of which did the burrito any favors. The "empenadas" are just a tortilla rolled up with fruit filling. I can't imagine how hard it would be to get a table if the food was better prepared. The food tastes like it would be better suited to the "it's 2:30 in the morning and I've had 1 too many jäger bombs, feed me!" crowd. Like I said, I really wanted to like the place. Sadly we won't be back.

This is my FAVORITE restaurant in town. So affordable and such friendly staff! Literally everything on the menu is delicious and they make all the food fresh and so quickly. Great ambiance inside, very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Good music playing, and not too loud either, just right. The owner is a great Christian man who is always there and makes sure that every customer leaves happy. I'm literally obsessed with this place. If you want a quick, delicious meal, look no further and go to Taco Casa!!

Great tex mex food and fast service. 1000% better then Taco Bell and their %30 meat in their taco filling. Cheap and delish

    (4)
  • Lori L.

Awesome and cheap. Their hot picante salsa is so delicious. Dinner special #1 is my favorite. I love the taco burgers. Chips and dip is a good portion. Bean nachos are yummy and they melt in your mouth. Can easily eat for less than $5.

  • Kiersten W.

My husband and I stopped by Taco Casa to have a quick dinner a few weeks ago. Food was okay, I'd go back because they are cheap and fast. A step above a taco bell at least, but not authentic Mexican, or even great Tex-Mex. Kind of hard to get into because it seems like traffic is a little heavy in the area, but we just moved here so it could be just the time that we went.

    (3)
  • Wes M.

Great local lunch spot, the specials are a great deal. It's not authentic Mexican, but a nice taco joint. Tacos are good, crisp shells. the empanadas are really good too. Good local place, better than going to Taco Bell. Saw in some of the comments it's dirty, I've been coming here for over 20 years, I've never seen it dirty, they constantly have someone cleaning. It's an old building, and old decor.

  • Michael S.

place was not as what I expected. lunch prices were amazing the the quanity of food was good.

  • Britt S.

My husband and I wanted to know why there were always cars at Taco Casa on our way home from work. So one day we stopped by because we had cash (no credit cards). It was inedible. I don't know of a better way to describe it. The fact that it is super cheap does not make up for the terrible food. My chicken looked and tasted as if it were cooked 3 days prior. I try not to think of it as we drive by now. It kind-of makes me sick.

    (1)
  • Sara K.

My husband loves this place! They have a very straight forward and simple menu with low prices. Previous reviewer stated it was dirty, it was not dirty at all! Great place for a cheap & quick lunch!

    (4)
  • Kel T.

We went in expecting better than Taco Bell but were disappointed. The food is served quickly and is fresh but is as plain and tasteless as it can be. The ground beef on my taco didn't taste like it had been seasoned at all, and same with the chicken. It just felt like very little effort is put into the food. The place was curiously full. I guess I just don't get it.

    (2)
  • Sam S.

I really don't mean to discredit other's opinions but this place is terrible. I went there for the first time when I had a group of friends from out of town over. I thought it would be a fun place to try out and we all like Mexican food. Well this place is more like a high school cafeteria. It is almost like they just buy Taco Bell kits from the grocery store and serve that. I guess I can see this place as maybe a cool hang out for high school kids because it was very inexpensive. It does seem the entire staff is under the age of 18, which isn't a bad thing just not my thing. I am always amazed by how crowded it is so what do I know.

    (1)
  • Brad R.

I have been a fan of "the casa", as my friends and I call it, for probably 20 yrs. Here is the deal. It is inxpensive tex-mex that I personally love when im hungry and dont want to drop a ton of cash. I get the #1 combo with an extra bean nacho and I load up on the sauce in the back left corner of the sauce bar (its the hot sauce, but isnt over the top spicy). Some say the food is bland, but I say that's what the sauce is for :-). The servers are fast and never mess up an order. I love it and even though I live out of state now, when I come back to visit I make it a point to hit the casa. I ate there today as a matter of fact. And dont forget to try the empenadas for dessert.

    (5)
  • Kim Z.

Looking back on my experience here, my skin crawls a little bit. This place was really dirty and I was honestly a little scared to eat the food here. I wouldn't say the food was tasteless, it had a taste, but not a good one. Bleh.

    (1)
  • Paul W.

Not horrible, but its not worth going to. It is priced affordably, but the food really wasn't great. Seems like a great place for high schoolers though. Can't recommend! The "food" was similar to the kits you buy at the grocery store. I remember a lot of cheddar cheese and iceburg lettuce. Refried beans from a can, etc. It's an odd place, so I can imagine how it's gotten its cult following, but it's not because of its delicious food.

Anyone who compares this local gem to Taco Bell needs to have their palate and parietal lobes examined. The homemade Habanero salsa will make the burliest of men sweat, if not cry, and the serve-yourself sauce bar means you get all of the different kinds of sauces you want. The hot sauce is salty, and addictive. All the food is awesome, but I am a sucker for the #3 combo, which IMHO has all the Taco Casa gems.

I miss you Taco Casa! Now that I live in CA, you are so so far away. I spent high school years and the years after college as an absolute regular here. Taco Casa is the best deal combined with taste of any Mexican food I have ever had. The salsa bar is always homemade and offers plenty of choice. Just the fact that they have the courage to serve something as hot as the habanero salsa deserves praise from scoville scale junkies. Service is rapid. I recommend the number three.

  • rob s.

Maybe a slight step up from a Taco Bell? An inexpensive meal that caters to the masses. And yes, you won't find any Hispanics or Latinos placing any orders here.

    (3)
  • Jeff C.

Great place for a Mexican meal. The salsa bar is what makes this place shine above others. You can keep it mild or make it habanero hot. I suggest the the number 3 combo my personal fav.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
