Amazing sushi! Best spot in the upstate. The volcano roll and bourbon street roll were great. The cold sake was great as well. Service was really done well. We were personally greeted both by the owner as well as the sushi chef and the waitress was very friendly and attentive. After spending time in Japan this is as close as I've found in the Upstate. Great place, this will become a favorite.

One of the best places for authentic sushi and japanese food in Greenville. I used to live in Japan and this is as good as it gets. You have to try their Miso Ramen, it's delicious.

This has quickly become my favorite sushi/Japanese place in Greenville (sorry, Irishai). It's relatively new, and located at the far north end of downtown, 'above' Blu Martini bar, so if you're wandering Main St. looking for dinner, you'll probably turn around before you get here. But keep walking, just one more block, and stop in. I've been here 5 or 6 times now, and have never had anything that wasn't excellent. Ask about, and try, their specials. They occasionally have a grilled beef tongue (yes, tongue!) which is really good. My current favorite is an appetizer special served in a shell (I wish I could remember what it's called!), with shrimp, scallop, tomato, peppers...we decided next time we come, we may just order 5 or 6 of these as a meal. YUM. Oh, and the crab shumai...so good. Really, I could go on and on, but trust me and just give it a try. They have excellent happy hour specials, until 7:30pm, which can save you some money on drinks and rolls.

Great sushi in downtown Greenville. We stopped by on a Friday for lunch. One of the lunch specials they offer for $9.25 comes with two rolls, 3 nice sized pieces of Nigri, and a house salad. We both selected one of their lunch specials and were very pleased with the results. Salad was very good. Sushi was fresh and well made. They were also very accommodating, making substitutions to take care of my wife's allergy to shrimp and my dislike of salmon. Very good service. We will be back. This is the best sushi that we have found so far in the Greenville area. Suggest you give them a try.

When I moved to Greenville I was looking for a great sushi restaurant. So I started asking around and Sushi Koji was high on the recommendation list. I was not disappointed. My wife and I went to Sushi Koji for our date night and I decided to give it the test. I gave our waiter a budget and told him to bring me the best sushi roll for under that budget, didn't care what it was as long as it had the WOW factor. Scared? Our waiter brings out the Bourbon Street. Let me just say that my wife is not the oyster lover that I am and the Bourbon St is made with fried oyster. (I'm trying not to look up at my wife when our waiter is explaining what's in the Bourbon St.) To my surprise I not only love it, and i didn't think I would like fried oyster in a sushi roll but my wife who doesn't like oyster, loved it as well, not only that, she said she would order it again!! This place is a hit in my book. They have their own rolls so expect to have to read the menu, but that is a small price to pay for quality. As an added perk this place has an imperial Chef, don't know if that means anything to you but the food is good.

Best in Greenville. Yup, agree with the sentiment of everyone else. This is the place for sushi, more importantly sashimi and sake. Finally a sushi chef with the skill and knowledge of proper handling and preparation. Took many mediocre experiences and wasted money at other so called Japanese restaurants to finally find this right place.

I had a really good dinner there last night with my brothers. The sushi was really good. I got the sushi and sashimi dinner and a salad with 5 different fish. The salad had fish on it that was mainly course and a bit tough. I liked it b/c it was all different but if you want fish butter, it's not the way to go. The dinner was excellent, though I will say the tuna was a bit tough. Everything else was great. Kevin was our bartender and he was terrible. He proceeded to argue with another staff member who was helping us. She was far more efficient than he was. He was pretty much one of the worst folks I've had wait on me recently. His attitude was great toward us but his service was pretty shotty. I'd give this place a 5 start review if it wasn't for him. Net net--I'd say you'll have a hard time finding better sushi in Greenville.

Great Selection of Rolls and Fantastic Tempura. Went with the family for my wife's birthday and absolutely loved it. On the North end of Main Street so access is pretty easy with a city parking garage right behind it. I have eaten more than my share of sushi all across the country and this place rates with any sushi restaurant I have been to. Friendly Service too.

Great Sushi place with a big city feel. I sat at the Sushi bar and talked with the chef. It's the only way if ask me. He was proud of his craft, and talked with me. Service was excellent and attentive. I ordered the Sushi and rolls diner. Told him my only request was something spicy and he treated me well. Sea urchin, salmon roe, and many other treats. Everything was fresh and presented well. I've seen prettier rolls but first in my book is quality and that was grade A. This place would be at home in any bog city.

This is the place for Sushi!!! Wonderful, friendly place that is the real deal. Great place to unwind after a hard days work or a great place to socialize on the weekend. You won't be sorry you came - if you like sushi.

I am just visiting Greenville for a few days and I have to say that this restaurant has got to be the best sushi I have had in a very long time. It is a small, family owned restaurant that has bar none the best food and service. The family who owns the restaurant is Japanese and I was able to speak what little I know to the wife, which pleased her immensely. She loved the dragon on my daughter's shirt and was very interested in the fact that we were there to compete for the USA National Karate Championship. The husband is the head sushi chef and he is very well versed in his craft. The tamago is made by him, in house, is extremely flavorful and the texture is just right. I enjoyed the wasabi shumai as an appetizer and was not disappointed. I sampled some nigiri and the mackerel was absolutely delicious. One Emerald Green roll and some mochi ice cream finished off a fabulous meal. I definitely plan on eating there again at least once before we leave.

I was only there a for a short bit and had 3 sushi rolls, but this place seriously made an impression on me and I thank them for that. I got the Philadelphia roll ( my all time favorite) , the crazy roll and the Clemson roll. All. Very. Good. The staff was very nice and kind to a crazy girl craving some sushi. I can never complain about great sushi.

  • Shruti M.

This place was good, but nothing spectacular. Portion sizes were def on the smaller side. I had the fried tofu appetizer, the tuna tataki, and trio roll. Fried tofu came out so hot it burnt tongue, and had only 3 pieces. Trio roll epws really tasty but very small. Huge sake selection that is priced well and very nice wait staff.

Was in town on business from Chicago and got horrible food positioning here. There are a lot of other places in the area. If I were to do it over again I'd probably stay away. It's been a frustrating last 3 days with this illness.

The food is fantastic and the service is great. I have eaten here several times and have been consistently impressed. I wish I could remember our waitresses name from our most recent visit - she was very helpful, friendly and unobtrusive. All of the food is fresh and the atmosphere is relaxed. Sushi Koji is quickly becoming our favorite restaurant in Greenville.

We've been going to the Main St. location for over a year now and absolutely LOVE the sushi (haven't tried much else). We usually make reservations on weekend nights because it can get crowded. I am impressed by the fact that the fish here is always incredibly fresh, and I've been told by servers here that Koji is quite particular about this aspect of the establishment. Any roll or any nigiri that I've had has been of consistent flavor, presentation, and quality. I also regularly order the Shrimp Shumai and edamame, and neither is ever soggy like some I've had at other places. Service is always top-notch, and the restaurant has some great specials on various nights of the week, like half-price draft beer from 5-7 when I was there last Saturday. Pricing is on par with what you see on menus at other sushi places in town, but the food here is well worth the park-and-walk that any eating downtown brings along with it.

The real deal. Felt very authentic and not Americanized like so many sushi places these days. In fact, the head chef is the owner and can be found working behind the sushi bar every night. We had several rolls that were unique to their menu and were very pleased. Happy Hour beer specials are great too. Highly reccommend this place.

Very fresh and flavorful sashimi. I stopped by for a late lunch. It was quiet and the service was prompt. I can't say much else other than that, but the place seems really nice. I was just passing through town on business, so I probably won't get the chance to visit again. I dined alone, but it seems like it would be a fine place for a business lunch, too. I had the chef's choice sashimi lunch item. They served the octopus with thin slices of lime which I thought was a bit of a unique touch.

Awesome sushi! Been here 4 times and it gets better each time. The music is awesome too. They play obscure/unpopular 90's pop and rock.

Was not impressed with the sushi especially for the price tag. I'm visiting my father from California so I was a little nervous about southern sushi and sadly, I was right. Normally when you order niguri, you get two pieces, here, you get one. What? Fine. I also ordered the rainbow roll and I had a few pieces that were not fresh and had a very fishy taste. The presentation was good for all the food, but in my opinion, bad sushi is bad sushi. The service was good and the lychee sake was also very good but me and my father will not be returning.

Came in with a friend for some sushi after remembering what a great experience I had a while back. For some reason the place was empty on a Friday night, weird. Nonetheless, the service was quick and our waitress was very attentive. Sushi was good and fresh and I could see the chefs making it behind the little counter. I was a little disappointed that they didn't serve fried rice, but I think that's because they don't classify as a hibachi restaurant but who knows. Overall the food was still yummy and I would absolutely return.

Bonus points awarded for an excellent customer service experience, the hostess was a joyful and endearing woman that really made us love the place almost immediately. Add to that the fact that, by chance, we walked in during happy hour and got Kirin's for $2 a pint, and we were ready for a great meal. Unfortunately, it didn't really work out that way. The sushi wasn't terrible, but it was nowhere near our expectations given the great Yelp rating the restaurant currently enjoys. The two special rolls we ordered were tiny, closer to what we'd expect from something like a standard tuna roll. The flavors were muddled, and the fish on top was super thin, practically nonexistent. It can't be understated - the proteins were cut so small and thin that you could basically see the rice underneath it. Could this be normal for sushi in the area? Perhaps, we only had the opportunity to eat at one sushi restaurant in Greenville during our visit, and this had the best rating of those in the immediate area. Maybe we're just spoiled by the number and range of sushi restaurants back home. But all things being equal, Sushi Koji just doesn't rate very highly for us.

This is the go-to sushi spot in Greenville for my wife and me. The chef's are right out front preparing orders. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are low, especially for downtown Greenville. Can easily get dinner under $30 per couple. The best place to park is in the garage on the back side of Main Street. Sushi Koji will validate parking if you spend $50+ (hard to do, but possible with a group).

Amazing!! Japanese chefs and the sushi is always fresh! Every time we come they have blue fun toro too. Our favorite sashimi appetizer. We also enjoy many of their rolls- my favorite is probably the Surf & Turf Roll. Very friendly staff. We try to come once every one or two weeks

Don't try to order take out...person answering the phone had to get someone who spoke English...and they didn't have two things on the menu on Yelp...no website...no food...no good.

  • Autumn W.

The atmosphere is what you'd expect from a sushi place. The service was less than average - slow for the restaurant being pretty empty. The rolls were good and the Miso Ramen was divine. I'll be back for the Ramen. And perhaps sit at the bar, so I don't have high expectations on the wait staff.

I give this sushi place 4 stars and not 5 only because they don't have coke products or wheat beer... The rolls were excellent! Four of us ordered different rolls and shared, all were very good! I recommend!

  • TASTY T.

First off this place is run by Japanese peeps and the sushi chef Koji is actually a Japanese man, not some Chinese or Korean trying to fake the funk as a Japanese. Fish was good and suprisingly fresh for being in SC. Top notch, just couldn't give it 5 stars because there are several sushi bars around the corner that I need to try next time I'm in town.

I have ventured here a couple of times for lunch when I was madly craving sushi. This place has some tasty sushi, but I find their lunch specials to still be a tad on the high side. I really appreciate that they have some interesting specials you can get at lunch. Around Valentine's Day, they had a special where all the stuff on the plate was pink and all the maki rolls were wrapped with a pink soybean wrapper. It appears that they have different specials every day. Now, onto the food. First off, I have to give them mad props for their fantastic sushi rice. It is that wonderful combination of stickiness, saltiness, and just a hint of sweetness that I really love. It is definitely the best sushi rice I've had here in town. Next, the fish is always fantastic as well - fresh and thicker cuts than some places. Most of their lunch specials are served with either a soup or salad. I cannot speak about their salad, as I always order the miso soup. I can say that their miso is tasty. If you like a bit of a milder miso flavor, this one might be preferable to you. Two things really keep it from being a 5-star experience: first, I dislike restaurants that put wasabi automatically between the fish and the sushi rice. I do not like the flavor of horseradish, and I always forget that places just automatically put in on your sushi. I always end up having to scape it off the fish and sacrifice some of the rice. Second, I always end up spending more than $15 with tax and tip at lunch time. This is usually just for the lunch combo itself, with maybe a hot tea. The food is high quality, but the portions are just not terribly big and I never have leftovers or anything. It has never been terribly busy when I've been here, and service has been pretty good. The staff is always polite and always asks if our food is good. It has always been clean here as well. To sum it up: good food, good service, but a little expensive.

This place used to be great. After a few months away I returned to see its under a new name and ownership. The menu didn't change, but the service quality did. I ordered 2 rolls and some white tuna, and was informed they didn't have any white tuna. Since both of my rolls had it as well I asked how they were going to serve me those. She told me not to worry about it, they would use something else. I told her I'd just have the beer she just gave, and she then proceeded to instantly hand me the check. Unfortunately this place just isn't what it used to be.

good spot at the end of the main st in town. Not far from the Hyatt. It was last minute choice for me when looking for sushi. The bartender was nice, had a great recomendations on some rolls, was able to change the TV station for me to watch some hockey and I was impressed with the food and the freshness. Would go back for sure.

I love sushi, and I guess I may be biased with this review as I already have found my favorite sushi place back home. Was visiting town for work and decided I'd rather walk across the street from the hotel to eat something light than stay in and order room service. The house salad was ok, the ginger dressing I can honestly say is an acquired taste. Had to force myself to eat the little salad, and even though I love salads I left about half of it unfinished because I just couldn't handle the dressing. I ordered a Clemson roll, thinking it would be to my liking since I love snow crab. I wondered why the sushi was so cheap and when I got the roll I understood - a tiny roll, only 6 pieces, although this didn't bother me as much as the mediocre taste of it (I think too many restaurants serve portions way too large, and have always thought it should be about quality and not quantity). To try to kill the lack of taste I figured I'd try some sashimi and went with the assorted option. Again, quantity was proportional with the price on the sashimi; 4 different kinds of fish, two small pieces each (1"x1/2"X1/3"). I'm sorry to say that the taste went from lacking to horrible as I tried my first bite - the sashimi was so extremely "fishy" I had to force myself not to cry as I just chewed and swallowed. I understand some restaurants have some dishes which are good and others not so good, but to try three different things and for the taste to go from bad to worse as I progressed through my dinner just made me feel I wasted my time and money coming to this place. Service was ok, although I would say they could have been friendlier, and the guys at the sushi bar could have been a bit nicer instead of looking like they hated life and all that comes with it.... I hope if you decide to go there you have a better experience than me, no one should have to feel forced to eat the food just to avoid being rude.

Pretty disappointing sushi we had this evening. We got 4 rolls and none were terrible, but none were good either. Mediocre is a good word to describe the food tonight. The rice wasn't good, the fish seemed pretty fresh, but the slices were very skimpy.

I have eaten here multiple times for lunch. I have had a variety of items, from sushi lunch specials to chirashi, to teriyaki and tempura items. I've found it all to be quite good, and will happily return. The sushi lunch special is often an excellent buy. Good place for a nice but reasonably priced business lunch as well.

Clean and inviting. Great service, with a fun atmosphere. Food was average, and a bit expensive for the amount on a plate. The music was hard to listen to- it was harsh/loud and completely clashed with the overall appearance of the place.

Came here with my dad. I live in Los Angeles and we have the best sushi on earth but here in Greenville SC they actually have a wonderful sushi place. We got white tuna sushi and a crazy roll as well as a crunch crab roll. Really good !!! I was totally impressed with the quality of the rolls and my white tuna was melt in your mouth delicious. My dad got a hibachi box that he was very happy with. Darlene was a very happy server and we left happy. Highly recommended

Sushi was not bad at all. The rolls were kind of small, but overall an average value for the price. The atmosphere of the restaurant wasn't bad either. It's located on the end of North Main on the corner of the building. The only complaint I had was that they sat us in a weird booth on the side of the place that really spread our group out. It was difficult to talk from one end of the table to the other (in a group of 5). I'd like to try some other places in downtown before giving a comparison. Overall, I'll probably come back unless another restaurant in downtown Greenville is obviously a better choice. I'd say this restaurant is a better value than most sushi places, but is average everywhere else.

Used Yelp to find yet another winner.. Thanks Yelp! My waitress Kat, she was wonderful. She suggested the spicy octopus and asparagus app and it was outstanding. I asked if they could create a vegetable dish with the same spice and they did not disappoint. Salmon Sashimi app was fresh with 5 decent sized pieces. Great location, right near all the action.

I've been here 4 times, all during the lunch hour. They have a lunch menu which offers a variety of different options to choose from, all for great prices. I've tried several items from their menu but two stick out as my favorite. 1. Fried (whole) baby octopus (not to be confused with fried calamari = squid) is my favorite menu item! They are so succulent, sweet, and tender. They are so flavorful that you need no sauce. Yummy! 2. Chirashi bowl. I've received chirashi bowls froms from various sushi restaurants and the quality and amount they give you here is more than plenty to fill you up. Also, the slices of seafood will not be in sashimi or nigiri shapes. It shouldn't be. The quality was pretty good as well. The atmosphere is pretty laid back during the lunch hour and the staff was pretty attentive so we'll definitely be back!

I love this place. There are alot of sushi establishments here in the Greenville area. This place hands down is the best. From the staff, quality of food, and the service, this place is at the top of the list. If you are in the Greenville area, you have to come and give this place a try. You will not be disappointed.

By far the best sushi I've had in the upstate, though not as excellent as you would find in a larger city. The fish is very good quality, and they give you a good amount for what you pay. The only real complaint I have is the music they play- Top 40 hits from around 2000 to now. I'd much prefer if they had some calmer music. Also, I highly recommend the Greenville roll. It is a very unique roll (has ceviche in it) that I've never seen anywhere else.

For my birthday, I came in with a party of six last Sunday night. Our waitress was truly friendly, not just faking a smile so she could get through a slow evening; she was more than patient in waiting for 2 friends who were running late, and we appreciated not feeling rushed. The food was fabulous, and when a friend commented that it wasn't exactly the way she wanted some of her sushi, the waitress didn't at all argue against her comments. She took them in to tell the chef, and handled herself very cordially. We decided not to have them sent back -- it was more of a comment than a true complaint -- and everything else was fabulous (I thought it was all good, but to each his own and the waitress understood that completely). She also knew her stuff when it came to being specific on food allergies we had, and accommodated appropriately. It surprised us when she said she's usually the bartender; she definitely acted like she'd been serving there for some time. The ambiance, decor, seating arrangement, and style were all lovely. Not flashy, not cheap looking, and clean. Everything was as fresh as it can get, prepared beautifully and sent promptly -- nothing was cold, messy or pre-frozen (unless it had to be for health standard reasons, like raw fish sushi). They were prompt on the drinks, and I believe the owner's wife (maybe?) came by to check in on us, politely. We had a great time and would love to make this restaurant a common visit.

Definitely my favorite spot in Greenville. Great sushi, great service, and a take on warm Sake called a Purple Haze that you should try. The sushi is as good as I can find anywhere on this side of the country. The volcano roll is a good option if you're looking to compare a dish that's often available at similar establishments. More BBQ'ed eel dishes here than most other sushi joints. I travel here for business once or twice a year, and I like that the service and atmosphere is so consistently good. There is nothing more disappointing than finding a nice spot on the road once and then returning later to find it isn't as good as you remembered. Not so with Sushi Koji. It's my go-to spot whether I am with a group of co-workers or I am looking to sit at the bar by myself before returning to my hotel room. As with most spots in downtown Greenville parking is at a premium. There are a few multi-level garages a few blocks away. The downtown area is designed for pedestrian traffic - so be warned that it will be slow-going if you plan to drive Main St on a Friday night.

Very cute little sushi place right on Main Street. Loved the Gyoza here and really like the Greenville Roll. Definitely my favorites. Have to give a shout out to our waiter Eiji! He was a great waiter and he was there when we needed him but not intrusive so it felt like he was interrupting us. Its a great place if you've got a yen for Japanese!
