Went to Runway Cafe for the first time yesterday and loved the experience! The food was perfect (I got the Boyington burger), and service was excellent. Got there about an hour before closing time so it was just us and another family in there. Overall, it was a great experience! I undoubtedly plan to return soon for cheap, but great food, an awesome view, and the great service.

AWESOME EXPERIENCE!!!! Tried this place out on a whim for lunch and was glad I did. When we walked in the front of this place it was almost empty which was scary... We sat down and were greeted fairly quickly. There is a radio on in the background that is from the control tower which adds a nifty little character to this place. The food was good! There was nothing wrong with our order and everything came out hot. I ordered the "Famous $100 Burger". It was not a hundred dollars in price. THIS THING IS MASSIVE!!! You better be hungry or you will be taking a lot of food home. The Meat was juicy and the flavor on the burger was FRICKEN FANTASTIC!!! The fries were standard French fries but were good. This burger could use some BBQ sauce or an aioli. Add a garlic aioli to this and I will pay a dollar extra no problem! By the time we left 4 planes had pulled in and the place was packed! Now I know why this place is packed! Very family friendly for the entire family!!!!

We enjoyed our lunch here. The food we had today was good. They had a great pecan and cranberry chicken salad special today, and I ordered mine on a wheat tortilla. This was dressed with lettuce and tomato, and was a nice sized serving. I chose the pasta salad as my side, which is tricolored pasta with Italian dressing poured on top with a few cherry tomatoes and parmesan cheese. They also have sweet potato fries, regular fries, and fried okra as sides. My husband had the tilapia sandwich, which was about 4 oz. of fish, fried, and served on a roll with remoulade. Very tasty! Everything was very fresh. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy, very basic and clean. All the employees we came across were very friendly. The prices are very reasonable. It was a beautiful day and many planes were coming and going, which we enjoyed watching. I highly recommend this place to anyone with children, and come prepared to play! There is a wonderful playground, walking path, and picnic area, which is all continuing to expand and will soon be much larger. Even on a 30 degree day, there were many people out with their kids, enjoying the park. This is just another reason to love where we live! We look forward to bringing our grandson, especially in the Spring.

Three of us stopped in for early dinner. I had the special, a flounder sandwich, which turned out to be a triangular piece of breaded fish somewhere between Mrs. Paul's and McDonald's. it was topped with Velveta and sitting on plenty of tartar sauce. I got onion rings as the side; they were okay. Both of the people I was with had burgers - think frozen Bubba Burgers from Walmart. They were both accompanied by very routine French fries. The highlight of the meal was deep-fried Oreos for desert. Service was mediocre, which was an unpleasant surprise given that the was only one other table occupied in the entire restaurant. Decor is very spartan; clearly they rely on the location as their only draw.

The food is great with lots of outdoor seating to enjoy watching the planes take off and land. The few kids that were there loved it! I had the crispy tolapia fish sandwich with sweet potato fries and my friend had a salad with chicken, pecan, bacon..and lots of other goodies. I would like to note the salad was made with assorted quality lettuces - not iceberg, like a lot of places down here - a nice touch!

This place has such a great location. It is so fun to take the kids here to watch the planes take off and land. They have a huge patio for nice days. However, the food stinks. It's terrible. I think everything on the menu is frozen and heated up. Nothing tastes fresh. Nothing tastes homemade. It all tastes frozen and gross. It's a shame that they don't get a good chef in there to make something of the place. Just great pub grub, burgers, sandwiches and then they'd have a winning combination. Unfortunately they must just have hired a chef who only knows how to order and reheat frozen crap. Even it's great atmosphere and location doesn't beat out the terrible food.

Still enjoy visiting this place. Took a client to lunch on 9/9/13. Service has improved a lot lately, however my hamburger was like a hockey puck. I was almost embarrassed to have brought my client here. However he seemed to enjoy it, even though the place was over ran with little kids. The new play ground seems to attract a lot of small children, some are well behaved and some.............. not so much.

A very small restaurant with quite an attitude to quality. You can literally listen to the airport communication and watch old and new planes arrive and depart. It's a lot of fun for kids and grown-ups. It even might be more fun if it is warm enough to sit outside. Service was excellent and the "Joe Foss" burger was as ordered. A special might be the fried Oreo's ... yum

We had a great meal on the way to Florida, from Ann Arbor. The special burger had pulled-pork on top of hamburger patty and with bacon and sweet-potato fries...jump started the heart in short order! Staff was friendly and the view was great.

Finally got here for the first time yesterday. So glad our cool little downtown airport now has a restaurant. Runway Cafe gets 5 stars for location. What a fun place for kids or adults to hang out and watch the planes come and go. They have a great outside dining area. While it was too cold to sit out there yesterday, I am looking forward to returning on warmer days and enjoying the outdoors. There is also a large green space that will soon be a park. There is a paved path where you can walk or children can ride bikes, and in the next few months (spring 2013) a playground will be installed. See details here: greenvilledowntownairpor… I didn't find the food to be anything special during this visit. I should have requested medium for the Top Gun burger because it was totally overdone. And I was really disappointed in the fries which appeared to have come out of a bag. A place like this should be frying their own taters. Next time I will try the yummy-sounding pesto chicken salad in a sandwich or wrap. The staff was friendly but a bit harried because they had a table of 15 show up while we were dining and apparently they were unprepared for such a large group all at once. For a Wednesday afternoon on a chilly February day, the restaurant was quite full and stayed busy during our meal. That alone says good things about this establishment! I'll check back in again some sunny May evening when I return to enjoy a cold beer and watch the planes come and go.

A fun and different place for lunch. They also have a nice meeting room.

Great place to fly into for lunch with the kids. There is a playground outside and a great view of the ramp and both runways... I have flown in twice here with the kids.

Overall a pretty good place. The kids loved watching the planes and playing on the playground. The food was decent. I will go back for the experience but not for the food alone.

On impulse we went to Greenville for the FIRST ANNUAL Greenville Small Plates Crawl... and had lunch at this café on the way into town (RC is located just off I-385 headed downtown). Party of four tried several different items on the GSPC menu... some just smaller portions of regular menu items. Pimiento Cheeseburger had a good charbroiled flavor & homemade pimiento cheese was very good. Pesto Chicken Wrap was declared good, as was the Chicken Qeusadilla & Cranberry Pecan Chicken Salad. The Sweet Potato Fries were better than most I've had elsewhere since the SPF craze hit the South some years back... AND if you want FRIED OKRA done right... Fried Okra is DONE RIGHT at the Runway Café. I EMPHASIZE THIS fact since I have recently had two terrible experiences with Fried Okra at other restaurants... nothing is more terrible than TERRIBLE FRIED OKRA! I thoroughly enjoyed my side of FRIED OKRA at Runway Café... I should have ordered seconds since I had to share! LOL Runway Café has a good view of the airport activities & outdoor dining which would be fun in warm weather, has a clean diner atmosphere, friendly owner and staff, and appears to be a gathering place for moms out with the kiddies for lunch!

Slow, slow, slow. Disorganized. If the place is more than half full don't bother. We waited an hour and left before getting our food.

I'll be the odd man out on this one because on a Saturday afternoon the place was jammed. Walking from the 100+ degree cockpit and nearly a 1/4 mile from my friend's tie down space had me parched and the waitress thankfully brought cold drinks to the table. Moments later she brought much needed refills. Except for a half dozen varieties of hamburgers, the menu held little of interest for me. Hummus, wraps, - you get the idea, not even onion rings - not very manly for a restaurant attempting to attract airplane pilots. Perhaps because it was busy, it took 20 minutes for my burger to arrive. It was tasty and perfectly cooked. This was offset by the lukewarm fries. And, the fries weren't cooked in grease that would have provided some real flavor. The restaurant was supposed to have ATC comms piped throughout the dining room and didn't. Disappointing. The Runway cafe is ok, but I'm not enthusiastic about returning.

What a great place to go for that $100 hamburger (pilot talk for a place to fly to for lunch). If the weather is nice there is a great patio where you can sit and watch planes come and go. The food is wonderful, the waitress was great and the prices very reasonable. A fabulous place to take kids who are into planes.
