The waiter that I had was super attentive and knew his stuff. (which item was where on the menu) They have a lot more of the rarer dishes compared to most other Vietnamese places, including nem nuong cuon and my personal favorite, bun rieu. (I'll be trying that next time.) Their pho dac biet wasn't doused in MSG, which was nice.

Don't let the look of the outside fool you. This place is AMAZING. If you love authentic, delicious, fresh, feel-good-in-your-soul Vietnamese food, this is the only place in Greenville to find it. On a cold day, a huge bowl of any soup and an order of the summer roles are my go-to meal. Also try the Vietnamese iced coffee! The service is great, the place is cozy and low-key, and the prices are reasonable. Seriously, go try this place now!

Fabulous food made with really fresh ingredients. They grow their own herbs in a garden right out back. You won't find any American Asian food here covered in msg and drowning in corn syrup. Everything is made fresh with vibrant herbs and spices. If you like fresh, real food, you will love it here. The chicken curry soup is wonderful, and #26 has a great combo of flavors if you want to try a few things in one dish. The atmosphere is very casual.

Aw man do I love this place! The herbs and vegetables are as fresh as they can get, the food is authentic, and great variety. I love that they don't try to sell their food through cheesy pictures, they let the food speak for itself. I feel so fortunate to find such a great place in the middle of South Carolina. I've lived in California, Charleston and now Greenville, and this is one of the most authentic Vietnamese I've had in a long time. To address vegetarian eaters: The beauty of Asian food is that almost anything on the menu can be transformed into a vegetarian dish. Substitute any meat for tofu or all vegetable. Also don't be afraid to ask your server about what options you can have. My order: Vietnamese iced coffee. Perfect. Not too sweet like others i've had, nice and strong. I love it. Steamed duck bun with dipping sauce. Perfectly seasoned with fresh herbs and vegetables. SO yummy one wasn't enough! Tai Pho. I love the broth and fresh herbs. The broth is made so well you don't need much hoisen or siracha which is what I usually drown sub par Pho in. Coconut ice cream with fresh fruit for dessert. This dessert is in an actual young coconut shell with the coconut still intact! The ice cream is also folded with coconut and is made with real vanilla bean. The fresh fruit is a wonderful addition and sent me into a food coma. I can't wait to go back and try more of their menu!

I've been trying to get here for a few weeks now. After all the reviews it seem like a sure bet. I was not disappointed. I only had a small snack with the soup but the flavors were great. I'll be coming back for sure. Like, tomorrow.

Worst and slowest service I have ever experienced. I've visited this establishment twice now, and will not be returning. I hate that, because the food was good, but not good enough to makeup for how poorly this place is run. The first time I went was to pick up take out. I waited for over 30 minutes sitting in the restaurant, while my wife and dog were in the car. And, that was after waiting the 25 at home before leaving to go pick it up. The entire time I was waiting in the restaurant, customers who were dining in were coming to the register complaining about the wait to receive their food. I should have learned from this experience, but like I said, the food was good so I returned for a second visit. This time, my wife, a friend, and I attempted to dine in. After sitting at a table for about 10 minutes, we were given menus. We never saw a server again. After 30 minutes, the tables beside us (who had been there long before us) received their drinks. Then, a couple that came in after us decided to move to a table closer to the door. They were immediately served and had their orders taken. Upon seeing this, we got up and left. This place seems to really overextend itself. They only have a few employees, but they'll seat every table in the restaurant. Hire more people, or have less tables. I'll be finding another Vietnamese restaurant in town that takes better care of its customers.

Went there over the last weekend of September 2014. There we more people then usual, and they were severely under staff. I understand this is a family run business. But sometime you need to hire more staff if your business starts to pick up. Me and my partner waited more then 10 minutes for drinks and menu. They took almost 40 minutes to get our appetizer out, and then over a hour and 30 minutes to have our entree deliver to us. I came close to walking out, however I felt bad for the young lady who serve our table. It was not her fault. It is poor management. Food wise is good. Just need better services.

This is my favorite Vietnamese food restaurant in Greenville. Coming from Atlanta and a frequenter of the Buford Highway area, I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to Vietnamese cuisine. I've had several different pho selections, vermicelli dishes, and rice entrees. I've yet to have anything there that I didn't think was above average. And as other people have mentioned, they grow the herbs they use right in the rear of the restaurant! If you decide to come by, just drive the loop around the back and see for yourself. Wait staff is good and always willing to answer questions. Food takes a little longer than average to come out, but the ambiance and cleanliness of the restaurant makes that not so bad. Overall, I love Mekong, and try to get over there every chance I get. I've ordered take-out from there as well, and was promptly served with everything in properly transportable packaging.

What a wonderful place! The service was exceptional and our server, V, was amazing! She had the best personality, service, and care. We had the duck bun, beef pho, shaking beef, and the chili garlic shrimp rice vermicelli. The portions were huge, the food quality outstanding and the price was shockingly low. We will definitely be back again! Thanks again to V for her recommendations and a shout out to those magicians in the kitchen!

FABULOUS!!! I thought the other place down the road from Mekong was the bomb diggity until I ate here!! So fresh! I LOVE the fact that they have their own little garden right there behind the restaurant for all their herbs and many of their vegetables. We are eating our way through the entire menu and so far there is NOTHING I wouldn't order again. Plus I love their bubble tea. At the other place, I never get it until I'm ready to walk out the door even if I ask for it as soon as I sit down so this is a real plus for me!!! Definitely the best Vietnamese food I have ever eaten! Go now! I mean it!! Get off line, get in the car and go eat!

My husband and I very much enjoyed dinner at Mekong. The appetizer, spring rolls, had tasty fresh herbs and a delicious spicy sausage. Main courses were good with more fresh herbs. The banana-coconut milk-tapioca dessert was so-o-o good, nice and warm and flavorful. Service was fine and the decor is very nice. We will definitely return.

Absolutely recommend Mekong -- good service and even better food. So far we haven't gotten anything we haven't liked -- I like the Curry soup in particular. Definitely recommend trying... (have done takeout so far and they're always prompt)

A month back i was waiting at Jasmine Thai Cuisine for a take out, when i struck a conversation with a fellow patron who pointed me to Mekong next door and told me how he loves the food there. Finally made a trip to Mekong this weekend. We wanted to try out the soup noodle.. Read my review to know more Ambience - Seats quite a lot of people, decent ambience, yellow lights, bamboo shoots etc etc. Nothing special but generally a pleasing interior. Service - Max was who was taking care of our table. Service was great and he was very good with suggestions for noodle soups. Food - Hats off!! Great noodle soup, great flavor, Very filling. I tried no 32 and my wife went for the Chicken noodle soup! Apparently No. 32 is the most requested dish and it was great. Cant wait to try out the other dishes. Cost - Cheap. Two noodle soups and a beer costed $19. Good food for cheap!!! Overall - Thumbs up for our first visit! Great Food for a very low price!!

My boyfriend got a pork Bánh Mí, which is a Vietnamese sandwich made with French baguette and filled with slices of meat, cilantro, daikon and carrots. It's the main sandwich I've found here in the states brought from Vietnamese cooks who come to the U.S. and open restaurants. It wasn't too good here, based on previous Bánh Mí excursions. It seemed like the insides weren't filled with anything, and it tasted like eating bread. I would rather buy a Baguette from an Ingles or QFC supermarket for $2.50 rather than $6.50. However, my phó was delicious. Succulent beef broth, great noodles, and I enjoyed it the way I like phó or anything else, plain and with no meat or veggies or doufu in it. Cute waitress, good service, and the bathrooms are like every traditional Asian restaurant along the highway--fluorescent lighting and broken soap dispensers. I will come back again, someday, if I can.

Great place for Vietnamese food. I've been there a couple of times and was pretty impressed with almost everything I've ordered. The Pros ------------- 1. Good Pho (Vietnamese Noodle Soup) 2. Great Banh Mi (Vietnamese Sandwiches). Try the combination pork sandwich. It's delicious. 3. Very nice teenage waitstaff. They're very polite, respectful, and prompt. The Cons -------------- 1. Decor isn't really anything fancy. (But that's not why I didn't go there). 2. Cook has a tendency to burn food sometimes. Fried egg-rolls were a little burned and so was the toast on our sandwiches. Still edible, but could improve. All in all, I really go there for the Banh Mi sandwiches. The pho is good, but I feel like I can make a better pot at home, therefore I'm a little biased when it comes to Pho noodle soups.

It was okay, that's it... Not my first time here. Basically went this evening because they were the only Pho joint open late. Our favorite thing here are the taro and honeydew boba tea. Summer rolls were basic, nothing to go crazy over. The duck steam buns are tasty. Pho was bland and left a funny after taste. Service was good and everything was fresh. They have a nice variety of items to pick from. I would definitely go back for their boba tea, but that's it. There are better Pho joints in town. 5/6/15 : the other pho joints have been slacking. Mekong's pho has become richer in taste. Maybe it's when I go? I know if the pho broth is freshly made, it'll lack taste...

Best Vietnamese in Greenville! Super fresh (they grow their own herbs), and super delicious (the chef was selected as one of the top chefs in the nation). Recommend the family sampler to give you a good taste of a lot of things and a sample of what to order in the future. I can't recommend this place enough!

Slid into a window table for a lunchtime respite! ...and found myself amidst a diverse, easy-flowing lunch crowd. Started with a #2 Pork&Shrimp Summer Rolls (Goi Cuon) and a #8 Crispy Chicken Wings (Canh Ga Chien); then, dove into a bowl of #37 Combination Rice Noodle Soup (Pho Dac Biet), along with a Vietnamese Iced Coffee! The service was "spot on"!...that perfect combination of attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeably informative without being overbearing, and genuinely helpful! ...and the food was awesome! Every item tasted fresh and full of all the bursting flavors matching what I was looking at! This clean, well ordered and pleasantly quiet eatery is an absolute must, for anyone with a palate for Southeast Asian, and specifically Vietnamese, cuisine! Loved the entire experience!

I will be the first to admit that I am not entirely sure what flavors should be distinguishing good Vietnamese food from mediocre or bad. However, I can safely say is that Mekong has some darn good food which is better than other Vietnamese cuisine I've had in the past. I will definitely be returning. I have been to dine in once and gotten carry-out once. The food was fresh and delicious both times. The prices are reasonable and service was good both times. Their summer rolls are wonderful with tons of peanuts in the sauce. The steamed duck bun is delicious as well, with flavorful duck meat that is not at all chewy. I have had a few different type of pho, and I have consistently had well-cooked noodles, absolutely flavorful broth, and fresh ingredients to add in. Service was spot-on when we came. It was on a weekday and a little slow, but I was glad we did not get ignored. And the prices are very reasonable here for a LOT of food. It is easy for two people to eat here for $25 or less. Mekong is definitely a little hole in the wall, but it is also tasty and inexpensive.

Plus for opening later than most pho places around here! If you know me...in whatever city Im living for the time period, Im sometimes hunting for after 10pm soup places ... lol. But so far 10pm is the latest Ive ever found. I liked it for my first time here in a Greenville Viet place. Just a bit too Sweet of the rich pho soup but still tasty. The pho noodles are slightly overcooked. Too much msg...my diaphram was pressure poppin so was my guys diaphram - slight difficulty breathing or something...I guess we were a bit sensitive to msg. Not much meat like Im use to pho places before but Im new to this area so... gonna have to taste the other four or five places nearby before comparing to local viet places here. Meat seems fresh..so thats a plus! I dont eat veggies becus of my allergy but bean sprouts, lime, basil etc toppings are all fresh n they give good amount for veggie eaters. It is comfortable place to eat inside but we just took it to go and since we are food testing we tried only the pho. We will be back for steam pork buns for him, if it doesnt have too much msg, and rice dishes, banh mi (if they have it) and curry soups for me. But only if I can avoid my food allergies...slowly eating.....Testing food allergy so I am okay with peanuts so I cant wait to test their fish sauce.. with peanuts! I miss home food...so this is one of the closest ethnicities so far, to my mom's food. :) Ps. Um..if anyone in Greenville knows where fresh noodles flat or thin are made...please let me know... even if it is your grandma who makes...id even purchase it from her! Fresh dimsum beef rice noodles? Yep Im new here n dont know where to go! Thanks in advance!

Pho good. Holy pholy. This is my new favorite place. If you're in doubt about where to get pho or Vietnamese food in the area, just come here to Mekong. Amazing and delicious. Wonderful and friendly service. Yum!!! Edit: watch out for tendons. They are normal in pho, but I do not eat fat or tendons, so I have to make sure and tell them that when I order.

I came in here for lunch one day - all of the 4 and 5 star Yelp reviews sealed the deal for me. Mekong is in a stand alone building - looks like it used to be some sort of fast food location based on the way the outside of the building looks, plus the layout of the interior of the building - very fast-foodish! When I arrived the "Closed" sign was showing outward on the door, yet I could see people inside eating, so I attempted the door and it opened, so in I went! I was told to sit where ever I wanted. I grabbed a table and they promptly brought over a menu. I advised them that the sign on the door was showing them as "closed," he thanked me and immediately went over and changed it to "Open." I asked about the Pho Ga - as the menu list their broth as being beef-based. And so yes, it turns out their Pho Ga, unfortunately is made with a beef broth. But I went ahead and ordered it. Plus a glass of water with lime. While I was waiting, I noticed it was really frickin' cold in that restaurant! I kept my ball cap and fleece on the entire time. When they brought out the plate of aromatics, I suspiciously eyed the plate - there was no Basil. It sure looked like mint to me. I took a leaf, ripped and inhaled - Yep - definitely was mint. I inquired when the server returned with my bowl. He seemed surprised at first, but then brought me some Basil. The Basil, sprouts, lime wedge, and jalapeños were all fairly fresh. Although they only gave me two slices of jalapeño. I added all of this to the bowl, which was steaming away - a welcome source of heat in a very cold restaurant! Even though it was a beef broth, it was still pretty good (I prefer a chicken broth for Pho Ga - but not all places will go through the extra effort to make it). I added a good bit of Sriracha sauce to the broth, and in the end I destroyed the entire bowl down to the last drop of broth. Paid at the counter and left a tip of $2.00. Delicious!

Went last night for the first time. Food was wonderful. Not too spicy and presentation and color was beautiful. If you don't know what to order get the set meal for two. It was a real mixture of dishes and the staff could not have been nicer. Will return soon.

By far the best restaurant in town as far as I'm concerned. The service is always good and the food is even better. We haven't eaten at any other restaurants lately because nothing seems as good as Mekong. They even grow their own herbs and vegetables out back, and the freshness is noticeable. I've tried various entrees including multiple varieties of pho, the duck platter, noodle soups, and stir fries. Vermicelli bowls are my favorite. The grilled pork and pork sausage have really awesome flavor. The spring rolls, summer rolls, and steamed buns are all delicious as well. We can't get enough.

This place has what it takes to be in business for a long, long time. The food is always excellent, the service is on point, and the atmosphere is perfect for almost any occasion. There are very few places that I've never been disappointed in... And this is one of them.

Jasmine A. mentioned fresh herbs, and the huge sprig of thai basil in my bun vermicelli was a huge delight. I'm glad when I left I drove around back - - have never seen a sight like that at a restaurant! I took some pictures (posted here), and as I was leaving the chef came out to pluck some fresh herbs from the garden, which is in the former drive-through of whatever restaurant was first here.

I don't leave reviews until I visit an establishment 3 times just to be fair. I saw this place when it first opened, but never thought of dropping by. The name didn't strike me as a Vietnamese joint. The reason for my first visit is Saigon Fast Food kind of rejected us in a way. After being a loyal customer of theirs for over 5 years we went there 30 minutes before closing and the instisted we order to go. WTH?!? I'm out!! Mekong is a hole in the wall, but that's a good thing. I didn't expect the type of quality from this place at all. I ordered the Pho (of course) and it was different in a very good way (they put mint in there). The broth had depth and was very flavorful and light. Next visit I ordered the grilled pork chop platter and the steamed buns. Delicious! Oh and the Bahn mi sandwiches...Just come in and taste what I'm talking about.

Love this place! Would eat here all the time if we lived closer. Some favorites are #13, 18, 21, 64. But I've never had anything bad here. Great restaurant!!!

Great place for tasty pho, and open later than most pho places in the area. The atmosphere is fine for what it is (the building appears to have been a fast food place, with a drive through in a past life). Service is good, and provided by conscientious high schoolers most of the time.

  • Jim S.

This is the best Vietnamese restaurant in Greenville. The shaky beef may even be better than at The Slanted Door in San Francisco, which is ranked by most food critics as the best Vietnamese restaurant in the United States. The Pho, which is the dish by which Vietnamese restaurants are measured, is also outstanding. The bang mi sandwiches and the duck buns are also not to be missed. The atmosphere is only average and the service could be better but the food makes up for it. If you like Vietnamese food, this is the best in Greenville.

  • Sheridan P.

I judge all vietnamese restaurants by their Pho Dac Biet. The bowl at Mekong is excellent. Light, yet flavorful broth; if you've ever made pho from the bones up, you know how difficult this can be. All their herbs are FRESH. As in, Grandma in the kitchen just picked them from the empty soy bucket garden in the back. Seriously, drive around back and check it out. It's an awesome sight. I cook and/or eat Vietnamese food everyday. If not, I'll Vietnamize whatever i'm eating. This place is really legit.

We always get the Pho (chicken or beef). The service is always prompt. The food is always fresh, they grow their own veggies in the back. Overall, We will be back again and again.

Let me just go ahead and say: I am a Vietnamese who was born in Vietnam and very picky about food... so there... We ate there on our way to Atlanta for the weekend (for some more Vietnamese food, lol). My dad and my daughter (2.5 years old) ordered Pho and me and my husband ordered the Special Broken rice... The pho, according to my dad, was very good and was proven by my daughter who finished her own bowl (which is a regular size, mind you, just without meat and onions). The broken rice, eh, not so good, the rice was not cooked properly so it's only halfway cooked (my American husband thought it was only too dry, better leave it at that than let him know the truth, or he will freak out). The pork chop was not very flavorful either. We also have "Bo Bia" as appetizer, it's ok, not worth ordering again... Also, the salted lime drink was very bitter... All in all, we probably will come back for the pho again but wont order anything else....

Since moving to Greenville in November, this family restaurant has become our go-to casual night and carry-out place, even though we live on the other side of town. We got hooked on Pho at a restaurant in the Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco, and this place does it as well if not better: it's served with a large plate of fresh sprouts and thai basil, which you add to the hot soup.. I've had a duck special that was as good as anything I've had in a high end trendy restaurant, and the buns and appetizers always were fresh and interesting. The atmosphere is nothing to speak of: basically a converted fast food joint, but the young men servers (brothers?) are pleasant and usually on the ball. Beer and wine only; not much choice. But the real winner is when you drive around back. In flower pots and trays, in the back parking lot, is a large garden of fresh herbs and vegetables. No wonder the stuff is so good.

I was SO excited to see a new Vietnamese/pho restaurant in G-ville. No offense to my favorite, but sometimes a little variety is the spice of life. Alas, when I looked at the menu, I had to politely thank them and leave. Not a single vegetarian entree (two tofu appetizers...that's it). This surprised me, since I often count on Vietnamese/Thai restaurants when I want a satisfying meal with no meat. Sorry, Mekong :(

Both my wife and I are both big fans of Vietnamese food in general, and having several Vietnamese friends have been lucky enough to have plenty of "home cooking" and been to some of the good restaurants around Atlanta and Charlotte. This place does not disappoint. So far we've tried the Bánh xèo (vietnamese crepe with shrimp and pork), Bun Bo Hue (Hue style noodles -spicy!) and several varieties of their Pho noodle soups, and so far, so good. I'd have to say that my favorite so far is the Bun Bo Hue. This place is rather unique in that they offer one of my personal favorites, Bánh xèo - I believe it's the first place in Greenville that offers a decent version (Pho Noodleville carries a version, but I don't recommend). Their Vietnamese iced coffee is one of the best in Greenville, as it is not overly sweet like many of their competitors'. One note: Another reviewer mentioned about the pho broth not having star anise, and this is the case. However, I'm a purist when it comes to pho broth so I would prefer Pho 99 or Saigon Fast Food's pho over Mekong. This alone held me back from giving 5 stars. Anyway, bottom line is I felt so strongly about this place that I had to write my first Yelp review. Strongly recommend!

Ok, anyone who has read any of my reviews knows I am a huge fan of Pho and this place does not disappoint. Huy the male owner is an awesome guy who came out and checked on me and my wife several times and after finding out she was allergic to fish products brought her a different kind of ginger soy from the kitchen to go with her meal. Also we was very open and friendly as we were talking about various coffees and ways to prepare Pho. One big difference here is that they do not use Star Anise in the Pho broth which while a bit different from many that I have had but not bad, it let me try a new side of Pho. Also as a small change fish sauce was available on the table from the get go. My wife had the Broken Rice plate and was very pleased. Several preparations of Pork with what my wife said was the best rice she has had along with a mushroom and pork soup. The service was the absolute best I have ever had in a Vietnamese Restaurant, period. And if that was not enough, as we were leaving we had to drive around the back of the place where we noticed that they grow their own Thai Basil and other herbs and plants out back, many large planters of things so that to me just makes it even cooler. We will be going back here without a doubt, I am scarce with 5 Star reviews but this place is worth it for me and mine.

Ok pho. Ok sandwiches. The duck meat in steamed bun was yummy. The spicy noodle soup was a disappointment. I enjoy eating nasty bits of meat, but the soup lacked balance and had too much pig knuckles, skin, fat and not enough meat. The prepared and wrapped food at the counter was gross when we opened it. I guess stick to the staples -- pho, vermichelli, or sandwiches. Went back last week and the quality of the food and service was down from before. The place is ok, but there is better down the road. Look for the place with low rating and few if any non-Vietnamese patrons.

I'm Vietnamese from Little Saigon in California, so I have to admit that I grew up spoiled with the best Vietnamese food in the USA. Since the move to SC, I have been searching for a good restaurant for my own "soul food" in this town. So far, Mekong is as good as it gets for Vietnamese food in Greenville. The place is clean enough, the food is satisfying, and the service is nice. The pho and the traditional desserts (sweet beans in coconut milk) taste as they should. Pho is great for a hangover, during cold weather, or if you are not feeling well. If you do not want a warm noodle soup like pho, and want to try something other than rice, I recommend the trying the vermicelli. If you need a caffeine boost, the Vietnamese iced-coffee is strong and tasty (it is a drip coffee sweetened with condensed milk).

I'm jonesing for more. I think this used to be an Arby's or something of that nature. Actually, this entire area is a no no for most restaurants because I've seen many places go belly-up. That Belgium Delight was a no brain-er and I would have suggested that it would be the worst business decision of your life to invest on waffles, Euro waffles that is. Regardless. I'm thrilled about Mekong. Very pleased with my many outings here. Ask nicely, and you may receive some home grown herbs from the owner to take back to grow in your herb garden.

My husband and I went after the usual dinner time as to avoid the traffic in town. To our surprise, the place was not empty and people still arrived after we did. The restaurant itself is not expertly decorated. Basic dining tables and chairs await in a strange layout that hearkens back to the building's previous life as a fast food joint. Still, it was cozy and fitting of locale, price point, and meal. Our server seemed a somewhat sour, unhurried young man, but he performed the job well and was pleasantly attentive. Our drinks remained filled, order was taken within a rapid, yet acceptable period of time. Our appetizers arrived just when we had decided on what we wanted for our main course. We had the pork summer rolls and fried tofu. The summer rolls were perfect with those fresh herbs others have mentioned. The fried tofu was somewhat lacking in flavor, but it was fried perfectly (not too squishy, not too overdone). We both had vermicelli dishes, which came with yet more fresh herbs and sizable portions. The food was delicious and filling enough that we each had leftovers to take home (which is always a perk with a great meal). While I did not have any of the steamed buns, I saw another patron with them and I intend to go back soon to try one or two for myself.

This makes the second time my brother and I have eaten there and we think it gets better every time. V has been our waitress both times, and she's very helpful with the menu and is a great waitress. I love their Vietnamese food because it is so fresh and authentic. They grow their own vegetables and herbs in the back, and they don't dump food out of a can. As far a decor goes...who CARES what it looks like if the food is good! Great price for AWESOME FOOD! Get's my vote every time!

I definitely recommend this restaurant to the casual or serious foodie. The menu covers the main parts of Vietnamese cuisine but is not too complicated. The vermicelli dishes and coffee that brews at the table are definite favorites. One of the top Pho restaurants of the many Phos in Greenville. While I have fond memories of the building's previous life as an Arby's, Mekong could use a different layout in the dining room.

Very fresh and very tasty. What a nice little gem. Prices are affordable. Menu is great. Split the fresh egg rolls, a sandwich, and some pho. Way too much food, but great leftovers.

soups really good. I really appreciate the fact that they actually have a fresh herb garden in the back of the restaurant! Fairly consistent!

Authentic. My wife and I are pho freaks and the pho was fabulous. I had braised Chuck and Brisket -Pho Chin- my wife had Spcy Beef and Pork Noodle Soup-Bun Bo Hue. Quiet, Dark and fun. Best Vietnamese experience in Greenville. Beer and wine too. Going back for lunch. Very inexpensive. Family friendly.

We have so few really good Vietnamese restaurants in Greenville, and this one is by far my favorite. The atmosphere is a little lacking...it's not a white linen style restaurant if that is what you are looking for, but the food by far makes up for the appearance. I had the Pho Tai (london broil) and the pork summer rolls. Both were excellent and I cannot wait to try the vermicelli bowls all the other reviews rave about. It has not been crowded either of the two times I was there for lunch, so I sincerely hope that is not a bad omen. If you like exploring new cuisine, give this place a try. Very tasty! I want this place to stick around!

Have you ever thought about how a bowl of Pho is like a beautiful woman? It is mysterious and inscrutable. What you see on its surface often hides what lies beneath. It looks delicate and yielding, but it will surprise you with its strength. It is often too hot for you and will make you cry. The noodles are slippery; the more you try to grasp at them, the more they run away. And as you carelessly dribble the broth onto your best shirt, it leaves its mark on you forever. Mekong offers a wide variety of standard Vietnamese dishes on the menu. The menu is organized by general classes of foods--sandwiches (banh mi), rice dishes (com), and noodle dishes (with meats like beef, pork, chicken), soups (pho), appetizers, and drinks. I think they did a pretty good job with everything I tried. The summer rolls (goi cuon) and peanut sauce were tasty. The spicy beef noodle soup (bun bo hue) was tasty and satisfying. I had a che ba mau "pudding" drink, which I enjoyed. The restaurant looks very clean and is decorated pleasantly with pictures and faux plants. The service was the best I've had in any Vietnamese restaurant: they were very friendly and happy to answer questions. The owner is an older lady and her family; she is the one who cooks food for the Vietnamese market in that strip mall by Bob Jones U. The food is good, you'll enjoy your meal here. If I compare the quality of their food to that I've gotten in bigger cities like Atlanta or Charlotte, I'd be forced to say the big city restaurants do a better job. But if you're not willing to make a 5-hour round trip to Atlanta for some Pho, then this is a pretty good place to find what you need here in Greenville.

My boyfriend LOVES pho and since he's moved to Greenville he always drags me out to test out viet places he finds to find his go to place. Mekong is probably the best out of the bunch, but to me it is just okay. The menu has a LOT of items and it ranges from ban xeo, to viet crepes, to pho and rice places. We got the pho, spring rolls, and bun bo hue last time we went. Service is exceptional for a Viet restaurant. The waiters were all really attendant and our water glasses were all filled. Food was good/okay, but not great. The rolls were a bit dry and the pho was just okay to me (my boyfriend really liked it though) and a bit too sweet for my liking. I got the bun bo hue (spicy beef soup with thicker noodles) and that was just okay as well. The noodles were overcooked and my broth was too sweet but it had a good spice level. Overall, wouldn't come all the way out here on my own, but I def. wouldn't mind coming if my boyfriend wanted to go again.
