Now this is the kind of place I thank my fellow Yelpers for helping me find. Stopped in for lunch and decided to go with the recommendations found in other reviews so I ordered the Dolsot bibimbap and couldn't be happier. The stone bowl was piping hot with loads of fresh veggies, beef and a perfectly runny yolked fried egg. The rice continued to sizzle for several minutes after being brought to the table creating that delicious crust that I love about this dish. With a few liberal squeezes of the hot pepper sauce to doctor it up a bit and I was in heaven. All the kimchi sides were very good as well. The service here is also very good.

Lunch box type might be ok to cater to non-Koreans, but the rest of the menu is an embarrassment to anyone with any knowledge or experience of Korean cuisine. The beef rib soup does not contain any ribs, just rib bones put in as an after thought to make it look like what it should be. The three other dishes we ordered were just as bad. We didn't finish a single dish. We brought the leftovers home, but ended up throwing them away. Stick to the non-Korean friendly lunch boxes (its closer to Chinese style than Korean style).

Phenomenal Is the only word I can think of to describe this joint. It's so refreshing to get quality non frozen pre-prepared food and a great staff. The kimchi is superb and the beef short ribs are spectacular. They introduced me to a Korean beer called hite and a fermented rice beverage that were great. A must stop for locals or tourist that want something that you cant get at your local Crapplebees.

Wonderful find for Korean food in Greenville. The owner, Steve, is a tea master and always helpful when asked for suggestions or information. We love all the side dishes (kimchi, sweet potato noodles with sesame, spicy radish, etc) that are served with the entrees and are particularly partial to the dwaegi bulgogi (spicy pork) and mandoo (korean potstickers). We also enjoy the pancake and the bibimbap. Last month we brought a large lunch group from Hodges (16 people) and many were newbies to korean food. Not only was the food a hit but the teas are still talked about (ginger, plum, and citron). This is a must try restaurant -- you'll definitely be back!

One of our favorite lunch places in town. Do not let the location spook you (everyone does). It is authentic, clean, and tasty. I especially love the the banchan (8 or so little appetizer style dishes arriving before your meal) - my favorites are the kimchee and sweet dried squid). The SOUPS are delicious.Wonderful surprise was the pancake...excellent. The Bimbab is great... Lunch boxes very nice. But take a chance and ask the owner (Steve?) to make a recommendation. I do so everytime and he nails it. Lots of spicy choices if you like. You can have some of their homemade iced tea or a beer if you like. Don't miss this place!

Great food, pleasant atmosphere. I spend some time in Seoul, and this is as authentic as it gets. Very nice Husband and wife team. Lunch boxes are a perfect portion for the mid day meal. I would have rated it 5 stars if they had the open table grills of other Korean restaurants.

I'm no food expert so I can't speak to the authenticity of the food. What I can tell you is that I love this place. The food taste is very good with a fair amount of spice if that's your thing. I'm a hole-in-the-wall type of guy so a gas station in the parking lot might give it an unfair advantage on my scale. The major downside is that I've only ever seen two people (assuming husband and wife). We waited a while to get a seat but it was worth it.

This is the only Korean joint in town. If you are a fan of Bibimbap, Bul go gee or other staples, then this is the place for you. The food is really tasty (although somewhat pricey) and you get a lovely number of sides with any dish you order. Don't like the outside and location scare you away (it is next to an odd gas station) the food inside is delicious and the atmosphere is nice and super clean. I wish we had other places to choose from, but there is nothing to really complain about here. Go get your fix now!

I ordered soon tofu which is usually a very rich and spicy soup/stew. I asked for it extra spicy. The tofu soon was a watered down version of what is served at Seoul Garden in Greensboro. No depth of flavor and not spicy at all. When i went to the counter and asked for some extra hot sauce or hot peppers, the server was reluctant to give them to me. Even though there was only one other table, the server did not even check with me once to see if everything was good. Definitely not a do over.

The food is a bit pricey but it's very good! It tasted like real korean good no genetic stuff. I love how they give you little samples of korean food before your meal! my boyfriend and i will definitely be back!

Korean BBQ has consistently good food, service, & atmosphere. Their lunch boxes make a nice, quick meal. Don't let the gas station outside fool you; this place is worth a try.

I am so happy I found this place. Being from San Diego, we have decent Korean. Granted most of the Korean places are jammed into one neighborhood in the county but the food is good and authentic. While visiting my mom in South Carolina, I really craved Korean and I know she hasn't eaten it before. So we hit this little joint behind a gas station. It was empty but being 3:00pm on a weekday, that's understandable. The first good sign were the steel chopsticks and spoons which are staples in any good Korean place. The owner was very nice and actually Korean. I ordered Dolsot Bibimap which is rice, fried egg, little bits of meat, and veggies in a stone pot that fries the bits of egg that are uncooked. I was in heaven finding this little gem of a place that came with banchan and everything. My mom had the Spicy bulgogi (I forget the name) and practically inhaled it. She was so psyched for the food and utensils, the owner gave her a card for the local Korean market, a tiny shop in Greenville somewhere about a tenth of the size of ours out here. Back to the restaurant, the kimchi wasn't as spicy as I like it but it's understandable with the palates out East. They just can't handle real chiles. The pickled cucumber was insane and I'm so excited that there's somewhere good, healthy and under the radar to eat when I'm out there again.

Ordered a variety of dishes @ tonight's dinner. Superb flavors, quality and reasonable pricing. A taste of Korea right here in Greenville.

Amazing! Would give 5 stars if not for the location. I don't know authentic Korean from Americanized Korean but I know this place was DELICIOUS!!!

I've enjoyed the Bulgogi many times and can't wait to go back. The place is amazing and the spices are mouth watering. You've gotta try this great place.

We had a great experience at Korean BBQ! My family and I fell into this place looking for something new. We were there for lunch. At first, very skeptical and wondering if we should even go inside. Its located in a tiny strip mall right behind a gas station. Literally right behind the gas pumps! But as soon as we walked in, we were met with the smell of wonderful Korean barbecue. Also, there were a good number of Korean people seated in the restaurant...a good sign. The waiter was very attentive and, to our surprise, we were served 6 different complimentary small appetizers just after sitting down. They were fun to try and very tasty. Our food was excellent. Both my wife and my hard-to-please kids who are 11 and 7 yrs old enjoyed the food, as did I. The bbq Korean beef was super flavorful and very tender. The chicken dishes were also excellent. In the end, we all gave Korean BBQ a big "thumbs up" and we are excited to return for the dinner menu. We highly recommend it!

Being a non-Korean Asian, I can't say how authentic the foods are, but I have to say that this is the ONLY Asian restaurant I LOVE in the upstate area. First, they use steel chopsticks. I hate disposable wood chopsticks not only because they are not sustainable, but all sorts of chemicals and aflatoxin in them. It's just hard to ignore the smell when eating with them. I've literally been to every Asian restaurant in Greenville, and this is the only place uses steel chopsticks. Second, they serve VERY high-quality leafy tea. I know few people here in the states would like hot beverage long with a meal, and maybe even fewer drink tea at all, but as a Chinese person, I like tea and know what's good tea by just smelling the aroma. I first came to the restaurant on a cold winter day and i was having a very bad stomachache. So I requested hot beverage and surprisingly, Steve, the owner of the restaurant, gave me a list of more than 10 kinds of tea to choose. Not tea bags, not fruity flavors. Real tea. I order jasmine, and even more surprisingly, Steve served it with a very unique tea set. I've ordered tea in countless restaurants in the US, and that was the first time I saw something other than tea bags in a cup. Last but not least, foods are great. Not too greasy, not too much soy sauce. Just the right amount of calories and flavors I need for a treat once a while. Well, I really can't ask for more when they have a whole amazing pot of jasmine pearls for only $2.50. All in all, this restaurant is just like a family-owned small restaurant in Korea. Warm and sweet. It will always be my go-to place when I'm in Greenville. Besides, I really like the small & healthy details of Asian traditions that this restaurant is keeping. The side dishes are very good too, btw. Potato salad is my favorite.

mmmmm...... I remember going here when I first moved to South Carolina back in 2001 and wasn't too impressed. Yet again, I wasn't working, I had doubts about moving here and simply, the location just sucksass. Forward to 2010, this morning my five year old, out of the blue, states: "I want Korean food". He's had plenty of it since my folks live in Atlanta and my side kick wife and I has spent our 20's dwelling in that fine city of ATL, Our response was, "shu'wa, let's go revisit Korean BBQ for a Sunday lunch outing, at least the kimchi is all you can eat. Well well, I was totally surprised....and pleasantly happy. Great selection of dishes, a tad bit on the expensive side ... yet regardless, damn tasty and worth many future visits. though......location still sucksass. :)

Let's get a couple things out the way first: Yes, it's in a gas station strip mall. Yes, it's fairly small inside. The fact remains that this is the best Korean BBQ you'll find between Blue Cactus in Columbia and the restaurants in Atlanta's Asian Square in Atlanta. And I'd still put it up against those guys any day. I've been a regular customer of Korean BBQ for 7 years now. The quality has always been and remains high. I've even introduced several several people to their first experience eating Korean food. They always go in skeptical and come out converts. The food is fresh, delicious, and presented well. The interior is surprisingly clean and well appointed. And even the restrooms are quite nice and clean. If you're dining here for the first time, try the Kalbi (thinly sliced grilled beef short ribs on the bone), Bulgogi (grilled marinated beef), or dolsot bibimbap (be careful, it's served in a hot stone bowl). I also recommend the ginger tea. If it's not your first time, try everything! Note to families with young ones: our 4 year old son also loves the seafood pancake (yes, and it's seriously tasty). And I can't say enough about the owner. He is usually a one person show (sometimes two person if his wife is working there), but he's always kind and welcoming. Once he gets to know your tastes, he'll also recommend entrees or drinks that you will like. Korean BBQ is one of the best kept secrets Greenville.

I was surprised to see it tucked away behind a gas station. Simple and clean restaurant. It wasn't bad. Spicy pork was good and kimchee chigae good. We went at 930pm and they didn't have much left over. We got 4 sides out of 7 because we were late.

Seriously awesome Korean food. This is one of the places I first visited 8+ years ago that helped me develop my love of K-Food. I was not as experienced in the diverse flavours of Korean food and it helped fuel my growing love of the spices and flavours! I got to know the owner Mr. Lee (back then) and he was always so welcoming and genuine on my visits. Recently I visited after not eating here for four years and was shocked he still remembered me and is still as genuine. The food is also just as amazing but it appears the restaurant is more popular now. So popular that on my night visit he turned away some patrons as the place was full. They always bring you out an assortment of banchan after ordering to start the meal off. It comes as a fresh and healthy assortment of vegetables as usual. My evening dinner visit a I had ordered for main course the seafood pancake (haemol paejun) and also an order of gimbap (Korean sushi). The seafood pancake had a nice variety of squid, shrimp, mussels and crab. It's been a while since I've ordered this and it was amazing! The gimbap was fresh and had a nice light taste of sesame oil with fresh crunchy ingredients. It's great to come back to restaurants you have not visited in a while. It's even more awesome when the food is as good as you remember. This is the true sign of an awesome restaurant! I predicted years ago Korean food would grow in popularity and I believe it will still continue to grow! It's one of my favourites and I look forward to a return visit!

This was easily the best meal I've had while in town. There wasn't a single part of the food I didn't enjoy. It's a small intimate setting that is very comfortable. I have the highest of praises for the metal chopsticks.

Up front: 1. Does this restaurant rate a repeat visit? Absolutely! 2. Does this restaurant rate a friends and family recommendation? Yes, every day of the week and twice on Saturday. This is by far the best authentic Korean restaurant I have eaten at locally. Now, please understand that I am comparing this to the others I have eaten at in the greater GVL & surrounding area as well as drawing from my personal experiences while being stationed in The Republic of South Korea for two years! Not only is the food outstanding, but it is authentic. They have not fallen into the trap of so many other restaurants that "Americanize" the menu, spice, flavor or ingredients. It is KOREAN & it is dam good to boot. I had the Duk Mandu Guk which is a rice cake and dumpling soup that was perfect on this cold rainy day. One taste and I was transported back to Korea. While my wife had a spicy cabbage and rice cake dish that had a bite but was not overpowering. Both dishes were very fulfilling. This is my favorite Korean Restaurant in the greater Greenville area.

My chicken teriyaki was like rubber tire. Undigestible chewable or truly recognizable. Very disappointing was an understatement, Especially for the super expensive bill. Two thumbs down won't be back!

Went here for the first time based off of yelp reviews. It was amazing! We had the galbi, bulgogi and dwejl bulgogi (pork) it was amazing! Be aware that you will have to use metal chopsticks :) Definitely will come again!

The food was delicious and it came with small plates too. It was quite an authentic Korean restaurant. They had very nice service and was quick. I definitely recommend this place and cannot wait to come back! We got the pork bulgogi and beef & veg in hot pot...yum!

We have eaten here many times, and the food is always awesome. The manager is so nice. It is a small restaurant so sometimes he gets overwhelmed with take out orders. Get one of the special hot teas (ginger, citron, etc) that they make there - out of this world!

Valentine's Day, full restaurant with only two staff working the floor. Minimal service and mediocre food at best. Overpriced and will never go again. Ate fried dumplings $7.95 for 8 of them, 2 bowls of rice dumpling soup that came out in half bowl full with no meat $13.95, bibimbap, $12.95 (may have had a half cup of cooked ground beef) and fish filets $15.95. This is THE most overpriced Korean food I have ever eaten...NOT worth it, especially for the quality.

  • Jeffrey L.

Very bad experience First, the host is unfriendly and took more than 10 mins to offer us water. Second, the taste of food is nothing good but salty. I have to keep drinking my water. The soup suppose to be spicy and contain lots of seafood. But I only could taste salty. Third, the worst thing, the host added more tips on the receipt by himself without my approval. I have already contacted my credit card bank to file a dispute to him. He should be shame on what he did. In a word, stay away.

Absolutely great Korean food. Good range from street food to more formal dishes. I've never had a dish I didn't trumpet about afterward, nor have family or friends, including several Koreans and folks very familiar with Korean food. Owner is the sole server, and does so with a smile. While the decor is not formal, I have no hesitation in taking people I want to impress here due to the menu's breadth and quality. Well worth a drive through traffic to enjoy it.

The most disgusting restaurant I have ever ate at. These other reviewers are either crazy for thinking it is good or the guy behind the counter just wanted to poison me. All of the food was cold....the noddles had the texture and taste of worms...everything was undercooked....even the chicken was disgusting to eat. Since I paid so much, I tried to eat some of it anyways. That was a bad idea, as my stomach ache confirmed. I will never go to this place again, and will not hesitate to let others know how nasty the food is. If I could give negative stars on this review, I would.

This is a simple and very good Korean restaurant. No pretentious or clutter. Food is the star and environment is clean. Man that runs the front of house, is supper nice. I think location is bad, in gas station strip mall, but a must if in greenville South Carolina.

Dolsot Bibimbap ftw! Thanks Steve for the tip!! A great choice for my Thursday night dinner. I prefer small business restuarants and in an area full of commercialized junk this was a treat. Next time im in Greenville ..My go to for Korean.

Cost is a little higher than expected, atmosphere is not great, food is average if compared to the rest of the world but it is a top notch find in the bland food world of South Carolina. Definitely worth a return visit.

I was going to give this place a 4 star but than after my visit I decided to give it a 2. Here's why: the decor is ok however the service there was slow. They did not have enough employees to accommodate the customers. I could tell because they were more than five tables left unclean. But the biggest flaw in this restaurant are the side dishes. I have NEVER been to a Korean restaurant and charged EXTRA for side dishes! They should be complimentary to your dinner and not be charged extra for them. I've been to many Korean restaurants both big and small and NONE of them ever charged me extra for side dishes. Disappointment.

  • Tim A.

I'm moving this up to 5 stars. I've been frequenting this place for over a year now and it has only gotten better. Since my last review they have removed many of the pricier items and really trimmed there menu down to a sweet spot. There is still a good selection, and everything I've ordered the last half a dozen times I've been has been great. On this new menu, you really can't miss. I should also note that I've visited all 3 other places near Greenville that serve Korean food and this one is the best BY FAR. Also, the owner has made some updates to the tables and chairs that goes a long way in improving the atmosphere. Go here and go often.

I'm Korean. I've grown up eating Korean food and grew up in NYC and lived in Korea. I know my Korean food. Based on the food I've had here, it definitely is not outstanding, but not bad either. average. Place does not look like an authentic Korean restaurant, but the dishes on the menu are. Very casual and a little surprised at the high prices (some dishes are similarly priced in ny) being in south Carolina. Had kalbi, dolsot bibimbap, and bulgogi. Dolsot bibimbap - it's really hard to make this dish bad if you have fresh ingredients. And the ingredients were fresh. Meaning thumbs up. Kalbi (BBQ short ribs) - not close to the best I've had, but nonetheless above average. Would order again. Bulgogi - honestly, probably the worst bulgogi I've ever had. Dry, and no flavor. Good bulgogi should be tender, sweet, and full of flavor. Disappointing. Banchan (side dishes) were pretty good and fresh. Service was very good as well. The husband who served us was attentive, friendly, and fast. Overall a satisfactory experience.

Pro: - the food is delicious and authentic - excellent prices Contra: - unreasonably stingy on the side dishes (unless you are with a group of koreans I guess) - manager/workers here and there rude

I went here for my birthday and ordered the kimchi bokkeumbab. It was delicious and spicy the way I like it (with extra kimchi). The food is very authentic and the people who run it are very nice. The only thing I will say though is I wish they sold miyukguk :D since it was my birthday after all.

This is, by far, one of my absolute favorite restaurants ever. I don't even care if it's in a strip mall right beside a gas station on Woodruff road (traffic hell)...I'll drive all the way across town just to get some of their jabchaebab. The service is a little slow, but when I go to a restaurant, I don't like to be rushed...so I'm ok with it. The people are so friendly and it's very clean. I. Love. This. Restaurant.

  • Dr. N.

Don't let the location at a gas station keep you away...the food is great! (Although I agree with the reviewer who did not like the bulgogi, not the best I have had.) Love the soups.

I have passed this place a thousand times but never thought to stop in since I don't really know Korean food that well. Went there recently based on the recommendation of a friend and it wasn't bad. My wife had the dolsot bibimbap and I had one of the bulgogi dishes. I can't remember the exact name of the bulgogi but it had spicy pork meat. The dolsot bibimbap was pretty good but it was a little skimpy on the meat. My bulgogi was also good but I think next time I will try something else. As others had mentioned, the service is a little slow but friendly and the side dishes are pretty good if you like kimchi. Also considering the setting and ambiance the dinner tab was a little high. Overall not a bad place if you are in the mood for Korean food.

I! Love! This! Restaurant! I'd been wary of trying Korean BBQ because of its location -- it's tacked on to the back of a scruffy-looking gas station, and I assumed its ambiance would be similar. So, the first pleasant surprise was how nice it was inside. Given the constraints of the space, they've made it look quite nice. My kids and I have had a fabulous time trying new things from the menu. So far, my favorite is the bibimbab, and we've also loved the bulgogi and the little kimchi dishes that precede the meal. The only server I've ever seen is a man who I have assumed is the owner. He has always treated us well. I'm not aware that there's any other Korean restaurant in Greenville, and I'm super-glad that it's here!

i love their hot stone clay mixed rice thingy... commonly known as dol-sot-bi-bim-bap to my fellow koreans. i love their service and how clean it is. the food is really good... nothing like my mama's, but very close... i like their grilled spicy pork, their soup, and their seafood pancakes. yum. damn. im getting hungry again. if you like spicy soup, try their yook-gae-jang. it's this spicy noodle soup with vermicelli noodles in the bottom (very little bit), served with rice. i love their side dishes... esp. their potato salad and their jab chae. :D

GREAT Korean food. I was really surprised to find such an authentic Korean place in Greenville. Since my boyfriend has moved out here a year ago, we have been trying to find "go-to" Asian places and Korean BBQ def. fits the bill. I've gotten the Yukkejang (a beef stew with glass noodles) which is my all time favorite here. My boyfriend has gotten the short ribs, spicy pork, chicken bbq dishes and he has loved every single one of them. I would even say that this is better than a lot of places in SF. Restaurant is really clean and service is pretty good for an Asian place. Also, they serve about 7 small dishes in the beginning which is great. Food can seem pretty pricey but it is on par with Korean places.
