I've ate there twice now both times the food was excellent and the service was fast and friendly both times the place was packed out and also had a good environment my only knock on the place was the music was way to loud. the location of being downtown Greenville is also a plus.

Upon entering or approaching this restaurant, I had really wanted to be seated outside. On what appeared to be the triangular hole patterned, wrought iron patio styled furniture you can have at home. Maybe it was better I was seated by a friendly señorita inside the colorful colors, but dimly lit very average, louder but stylish Mexican cantina styled cafe. The tables and chairs were your standard wooden ones. It seemed as though friendly waiters or waitresses (always - somebody different) were swarming at your table. However, they really weren't doing anything but asking you if you had wanted this or that. Then you waited and waited and nothing was brought over! Like they were going through the motions? Oh, maybe the salsa was brought over with a small side of sour cream at first (I think). But where were the chips? I had to ask for them. Oops... Guess the señor and señorita forgot it or something. Very inefficient. I asked for a house margarita with no salt. It was a production determining the sizes & prices, I could get. I just had the smaller one for 6 bucks. I think the $8.75 is the next one up and probably a better value if you're thinking of getting 2 of the smaller house margaritas anyway. I think it's 12 oz., the 28 oz. respectively. They are NOT bad. One issue I had taken exception though. At the meal's end I mentioned to a waiter on how much ice was loaded in the glass. Hence, very little margarita! C'mon señor! He subtracted one from my check at the end. That was nice and appropriate. I was hoping for another one, free gratis. That's fine. On to the meal itself. Very average tasting. Like out of a grocery store pre-packaged big named meal you could get in your frozen foods section! I had the Mexican Enchiladas menu selection. A ground beef, a chicken and a bean and cheese variety. A guacamole, shredded lettuce concoction over the top for almost 10 bucks. In short, I can't really rave about this place. There must be better in Greenville SC, I'd hope. This is right downtown in the thick of things. I'd choose from the many other ethnic and local eateries that prevail very close by. There are better ones for sure I've tried.

Meh. My steak burrito was full of gristle and fat :p - I give 'em 3 stars because I'm a fan of the chips and salsa, but I will not return here.

Terrible food. Only thing worse is the stone-faced service.

Iama Critic Rating - Guadalajara - 2 Stars 109 North Main Street, Greenville, SC Story Time: Some friends have told me I should write some reviews in story format so here is a story about an octopus and a goat! When it comes to Mexican food I am still searching for the end all, be all, Upstate SC Mexican restaurant. So me and my foodie critic friends had to try the Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant. As always I was prepared to leave our waiter 30%, but it was a busy night and he was rarely motivated to do more than fill my glass on occasion and ask us the obligatory "is everything all right?" So my tip was below what some consider proper, but reflected his lack of effort to actually do anything. Sadly this is quite the norm for male waiters! Guadalajara sits on Main Street in bustling downtown Greenville so the place was hoppin' for a Friday night. And the ambiance is more Irish Pub covered with sombreros than it is your typical Mexican dive. But once seated I ordered a Pulpo A La Mexicana for an appetizer, and the Barbacoa De Dhivo for my main course. I ordered these specific entrees as they were the most unique dishes on the menu consisting of octopus and goat. When the Pulpo arrived I was very unimpressed as the dish was 90% beans, rice and condiments, and provided but a few ounces of octopus bits. In addition this dish was supposed to be made with Guadalajara's hottest sauce, but any tangy heat must have leapt off my plate before it arrived at the table. No doubt it jumped from the shame of being associated with this dish. And for goodness sake, can you buy your tortillas any smaller? What is it with Mexican restaurants that provide two or three tiny 5" round tortillas that can't possibly hold more than a few ounces? I swear the first Mexican restaurant I find that provides exceptional food and 10" tortillas I will make rich! I will give them five stars and the write-up of their dreams on every foodie blog I write! After the Pulpo octopus disaster, my hopes rested on the goat, and when the Barbacoa arrived, at least it actually included some meat. Unfortunately the goat seasoned with mole sauce, could have been any kind of meat as its goat-ness had been cooked out. As a chef I can allow a cut of meat to retain its own unique flavors and identity, or I can cook the crap out of it until it can hardly be identified. Unfortunately, my goat tasted like overcooked pulled pork. So once again, me and my friends have found yet another forgettable Mexican restaurant, with a menu full of average size, average price, and average tasting entrees that has earned the same poor rating as the rest.

Great place to go for a Coronita margarita (beer + marg) and a taco salad. I mean you can get other other food but I like the taco salad. This is a fun place to sit outside on a weekend day that's not too hot. Otherwise, sit inside. I've been here on many occasions and don't really have anything bad to say. If you had to wait longer than you would have liked, you either can't get a waiter's attention or you clearly weren't drinking the Coronita. You should have been drinking the Coronita. This was your mistake all along.

Lunch here in July 2012. I would agree with the reviews about it being "dark" and kind of "dumpy". Needs to take the atmosphere up a notch if they are going to compete with downtown Greenville, SC. The place was packed with working men and families for lunch. The menu is pretty cheap for the lunch specials and you start your meal with some very fresh and hot chips and salsa. I had the shrimp enchilada which had a lot more onions and green peppers than shrimp. But what shrimp I had was pan seared and very tasty. This was served with rice and an avocado salad. I was supposed to have a choice of rice or beans but the server did not ask. My boyfriend had the burrito supreme which he said was fine. His was served with rice and beans. Not much to say other than probably won't be our first choice to stop on our next road trip.

Zero stars! This place is horrible. The food is straight out of a microwave! Awful. :( worst food ever. And the margaritas weren't good either.

After enjoying a beautiful Friday evening of music on Main St., we decided to have a late dinner here. The last time we ate here the food was pretty good so we were expecting the same this time. Unfortunately, the best thing we had was the chips and salsa (thankfully, the chips were fresh and warm). We ordered the chicken tacos to share, along with a chicken quesadilla. We were brought the steak carne asada tacos instead along with the quesadilla. Because our waitress was no where to be seen and because we were hungry, we decided to eat the steak tacos, which tasted old and chewy - and the cheese on the quesadilla tasted sour to me. I'm disappointed, because we live downtown and it would be nice to have a friendly, delicious mexican restaurant close by - and this place is neither.

This ia without a doubt the worst excuse for a Mexican restaurant I've ever eaten in. The only thing worse than the food was the margarita. The service was two slack jaws chomping gum behind bar who were challenged to make the drink with the undrinkable margarita mix. This place is criminal and should be shut down before It inflicts itself on other unsuspecting diners.

Guadalajara is the best authentic mexican food in downtown Greenville. Great service! Consistently fresh, flavorful food. The only way I can imagine someone would give this place a low rating is if they were expecting queso dip and a taco-bell style beef and cheese taco. They have amazing street-style tacos with tons of flavor - fish tacos, carne asada, lengua, carnitas, etc - that all come with fresh cilantro, limes & paired with a fresh salsa like spicy tomatillo. Beers were cold, margaritas did not disappoint.

This place sucks. First, it was Saturday during the farmers market (5-26-12) and it was frickin hot...my friend and I arrived 10 minutes before they were to officially open (doors were open)...she hinted to the manager asking to sit inside and eat chips and salsa...nope...he said they weren't set up yet. So, no prob, we looked around in the cute boutique next door. The portions are small and I left hungry. I ordered. taquitos and they offered rice or beans. I said rice with a side of beans. When my plate came, the rice and beans were seriously 1/4 cup if that...they charged me an extra $2. Must be a shortage. My guacamole was about a teaspoon with a pile of shredded iceberg lettuce, with what I think is a teaspoon of sour cream. My friend got the price for and ordered a side of avocado...they charged her over double what they said...when she complained the manager said I was only over charged .50 and they took care of her overcharge. Probably cuz she's a regular. "F" this place and go to Taco Bell! Lol

I have eaten there 3 times and the food was great every time. Service is reasonably prompt, the food if reasonably priced and the music is way too loud. The Music is set at the level one would expect of a nightclub...not a restaurant. Also, don't expect anything to be in English other than the menu (Telemundo and Hispanic radio). If you sit outside the music is at an acceptable volume. I go there for the food, not the music, so I gave it a 4-star review. I recommend the Pollo Fundido with some pico de gallo sprinkled on top. I can't speak for their Margaritas...as far as I'm concerned Sabroso's Mexican restaurant on Woodruff has the best in town.

I went on Cinco de Mayo, the wait was 30 minutes to eat and the place was packed. The service is Great and the food was fast. I love Louisa the Bartender. I'm not sure about the whole restaurant because it was LOUD and crowded. The food was fine by the way.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
