One of my worst experiences. Came in around 10:30pm on Saturday night. The place was not too busy. I sat down at the main bar for 10 minutes and watched one bartendress walk past me 4 times with nothing in her hands, not even looking at me. The second bartendress walked by me once. Her arms were full with drink mix and glasses, and even though she obviously could not take my order, she at least stopped and said hi. I stopped bartendress #1 on her 5th pass (again, empty arms) and asked for service. She asked me to wait while she finished with someone else. She walked over to finish with the other customers. She was coming back towards me and was flagged by another patron, for whom she immediately stopped, took his order (he already had a beer in front of him) and then walked right past me again. I've been here before, but I am by no means a regular. All of the bartenders have received solid 20% tips from me in the past because I've done the job and know how hard it can be. But really, this? I got up and left. I was lucky enough to spot the manager on the way out and recounted my experience. To his credit, he offered to buy me a beer and seat me at the outside bar and looked generally hurt when I declined, but I had made my decision. I vote with my money and Carolina Ale House on Woodruff has seen my last dollar.

Food was good, service good. Burgers are good.

The atmosphere was nice and clean... and you can't mess up beer. I was extremely disappointed in the food though. My pizza, which came highly recommended by the bartender, sat in the window for a solid 10 minutes, the nachos taste and appear like all the ingredients are from a can or jar (cheese whiz-esque). I think the fries were Ore-Ida and the tenders from a bag as well. Below average overall.

Nothing special. A good place to meet friends after work or to watch a game. Not really "date" worthy though.

The Thai chili wings were amazing! Good place to meet with friends!

I came here to watch some football the first week of the NCAA season because I know what their food is like. The waitress seemed rather confused about everything, and very dismissive or distant. I ordered wigs which come either classic fried or grilled. I wanted the grilled, unfortunately I forgot to mention this and the waitress never asked. So I got stuck eating something I didn't really want, but since it was partially my fault I didn't complain. The wings were still very good in taste. There are plenty of TV's here to watch the games and what not. This one is much closer to home and parking is easier and better than for the Ale House down town.

Terrible service... Wanted to sit on patio hostess said it was wet didn't offer to dry off a table for us. Server either forgot to ring in our appetizer or it was taken to the wrong table ( he never told us what happened). I had to ask for it and it took forever for us to get it. When we did our food came out right afterwards ( so I think he forgot to ring it in). Brought out side of applesauce with no spoon for a child. Food was nothing special.

What can I say about an establishment that let's a customer sit idly by at the bar while the bartenders walk by and idly chat with the obvious regulars and not take an order ... complete lack of management or concern for customers. I worked many years in the bar business and this is obviously an establishment that relies on its location for traffic. There are far better choices in Greenville, steer clear of this place!

Had there bbq sandwich & fries along with a pale ale. Overall pretty good. The service was great and the view from upstairs was nice.

This place sucks it's nasty it smells the waitresses look like meth heads the food is either good or ice cold. The bathrooms are always dirty this place should have a C on the door not a B. Enter at your own risk.

Went here twice while staying over in Greenville this week. Good sports bar and 84 beers on tap. Stick to the beer though because they do not know how to make a drink. I ordered a martini extra dry. It came half vermouth, half vodka. I sent it back and told the waiter to have the bartender either use no vermouth or just a drop. Second one came the same as the first. I went back to the bar and spoke to the bartender myself so that she did not have to waste another drink. I asked that she please do not put any vermouth this time and she responded that she had to because she needed to fill the glass?? I said then please top it off with the Ketel One. She looked at me like I had two heads. I went back to the table to wait for the drink while watching her bitch to all of the other workers about me. 3rd drink came same way as the first two. I guess she knows better than I do what I wanted....

I've been to two ale house locations and what I can say is they are consistent. Bar service at both locations is professional friendly and efficient. Food s always good, prepared correctly, hot and brought out fast. Great selection of local and home grown craft beers and very good specials on all others. Only negative that is also consistent is the lack of friendless or knowledge by the host people. Me to host - do you have the volume on for the playoff game upstairs? Host to me - I have no idea. Me - blank state waiting for a 'I can call up or ask the manager or send someone to check.' But on this visit I guess it was up to us to make the trip up stairs to find out on our own....of course in this visit we walked out and went someplace else. But otherwise, I like the place and continue to go back. Woodruff rd locations seems better run than downtown.

Great Sports bar/Alehouse with an awesome menu and many TV's to gaze your attention! On this evening I had 6 dry rub wings with a buffalo chicken pizza! Washed it down with a nice Sam Adams! This is how a sports bar should be! Great job CAH!

There AC is not on. I have literally been told four different reasons why until I got the correct answer. I was told that there philosophy is if they keep the air off and hot that people will drink more beer. Terrible way of doing business and poor management of a restaurant.

First time here. Great meet up place. Food was high quality. Reasonable prices and amazing beer selection. Casual sports bar atmosphere. We tried Bacon Brothers first, but they had a 90 min wait. So we came here- we got a booth in 15 min and the food was great. Plus much better beer selection and better prices.

A sorts bar with a good feel and friendly atmosphere. Food and service is average and the noise is a little loud.

If you're just going for a beer... You might be ok. But stay away from the food!!! The nachos were some of the worst I've ever had. Only ate them because I was hungry. Cheese was a cold soup at the bottom, everything else was tasteless, bland, and probably out of a can. I wouldn't want to try anything else on the menu after that... Honestly I hope I don't get sick from the food tonight. May be a fun place to grab a beer and watch a game, but beyond that, you're much better off elsewhere

Nothing special. Would be a really great place to go to watch a game and drink some beer with friends. Our service was also pleasant. But don't go here if you're looking for a really good culinary experience. The food here is good, but it's on the same lines as Applebee's or any of those generic american restaurants. Big portions and reasonable prices.

  • Matthew C.

Good enough joint because the customers seem a little more local and non-party oriented. On an average week night if you want to watch a game you'll find it half-full, with a few people drinking a little too much. It's exactly what you'd expect for a sports bar. C grade food, lots of drink selections, and all the games you'd want to see. My only complaint is the waitresses. They seem more enamored with their friends or doing nothing than helping. I'm not the only person to notice this and write it up apparently--look at a couple of the other reviews. Overall, passable, and good for seeing a game if you want to chill out for a while.

I've been to both Greenville locations and enjoyed myself. Their selections are limited, so there are other places in town I prefer. But if you go here, you'll get a reliable and tasty experience all the way around.

The bouncers are over aggressive jerks. Bad attitude in that spot. Kinda lifeless beyond that.

The bathrooms were a mess, , the tables were dirty and the menu's were sticky. the food is not very good (onion strips were oily, Fried cheese flavorless) I got a veggie burger so that was cool.My dad had wings he said they were ok. I would not go here again.

I've been to this place many times. I like the way it looks, I like the atmosphere, I like it inside and the patio area as well. Unfortunately the service is always bad. They are always slow and mess up my order. The quality of the food is inconsistent. One time the chicken wings were awesome, the next time it was not cooked enough. I really wanted to like this place but they made sure it would not happen. However, the one downtown is very good. Too bad I normally go out on woodruff rd.

Game Night!!! From our server all the way to our food and drinks. We had a fantastic time!!!! Our server could not do enough for us. He was knowledgeable with regards to beers and my hubby loved that. They did not have my wine, but maybe next time they will.

Great place to grab a late dinner. We really like their chicken pita with fries--it's always reliable, and really the only thing we like on the food menu. Lots of TV's all around the restaurant and bar. The owner did a nice job bringing their "B" rating up to an "A" several months ago, which is why I will be back.

Tonight we had a fantastic experience at Carolina Ale House. We had a large party and we're having a hard time getting in anywhere. They worked with us and got us into a table over an hour before anyone else could. The manager (wearing and orange shirt, didn't get his name) was fantastic and very helpful. The food was good and it was a great experience over all.

A great place to go out with your friends to watch a game - also grab some food and drinks. Food is always good and served well. They have a good selection of local and home grown craft beers.

I like Carolina Ale House on Woodruff a lot. After the sheer disappointment with an unhelpful waitress at the Red Robin, who didn't seem to understand how to seat people, we stumbled up here and it came to our surprise how busy it was(n't). The place is a casual sports bar atmosphere with sports decor and has your typical (but high-quality) American fare and a rather extensive selection of beers. It was Saturday night and we were greeted by the waiter named Dallas; he is cool! He understood my order very well! Kudos to him... :D Carolina Ale House honestly has some of the best burgers I've ever eaten; I get mine medium-rare. I had the "Pub Burger" (minus the lettuce, tomatoes, etc.). This thing had cheese, bacon, and fried onion strings. The burger was totally juicy and had plenty of pink inside. The fries were pretty good, but they tasted a bit funny... more like a funnel cake. Definitely get a burger here though! I'll tell you it filled me up and I ended up blowing chunks in the restroom. lol Service wasn't fast, but wasn't *slow* either. It was Saturday night; you'd think it'd be packed as hell. :P I'm honestly pleasantly surprised at how great Carolina Ale House is... and if you have a bit of cash to play around with or want to go see a game on TV, then definitely come to this Ale House on Woodruff Road. There's another one downtown that is two stories but I've never been to that location.

DANG!! THAT WAS A GOOD PIZZA!! We wandered into this sports bar after driving around looking for a burger joint. There was not much open so we decided on this Ale House. It is a bar, but clean and comfortable. There are several monitors broadcasting sports. Music plays in the background while customers engage in busy chatter. Seating was varied, (bar, pub table, bench seating, or reg table), and very comfortable. My husband was really craving a burger but I wasn't sure what to order until the pizza caught my attention because of the thin crust, grilled chicken and veggies. My husband ordered a very simple, yet fully dressed burger with fries. My pizza was "off the chart" incredible. It had a very thin, hand tossed crust covered in a very light pesto cream sauce with peppers, spinach, feta cheese, artichokes, tomato slices, mushrooms and grilled chicken. This pizza was all about the veggies with just a hint of cheese. It was absolutely delicious and something that I would definitely order again, and again, and again! My husband's burger although simple was thick and hearty and perfectly seasoned. The fries were thick steak fries and a very generous portion. Preferences: We would love to have been able to order the fries without salt but this was not possible since they are pre-seasoned. Regardless of this issue, this restaurant earned five stars because of the quality of the food and the execution in preparation. Also we really appreciated our waitress, Ingrid who did a wonderful job of making sure that we had everything we needed. I highly recommend this restaurant anytime but especially late at night when there are not a lot of restaurants open. This one closes at 2 pm and proved to be a great choice. Sorry, this meal was too good to photograph!

I wasn't impressed with the service. I asked for a Sinatra (2 fingers of Jack, 3 rocks and a splash of water... Simple). After i explained how to make it, they brought back a shot of jack, water on the side and a cup of ice and said: "the bartender said it was easier to do it this way." Atmosphere was ok.

The two star description of "Meh." is pretty accurate. It took about 3 minutes after sitting down for someone to acknowledge my boyfriend and me to even get us water. The food was good and that's what brought us back a second time, to give it another chance. Same thing happened. Very poor service.

This is my first time here, and even though the food was ok....I won't be back. Our waitress was awful. She has not been back for over 25 minutes....we would have ordered another round of drinks....I just want to leave.

The Boneless Chicken Zingers with Spicy Habanero Sauce are awesome! And the choice of dark and strong beers is amazing! IPA, Doppelbock, Shiner Bock, ... :-) :-) :-)

We tried the Carolina Ale House for the first time today. It will also be the last time. We went in as a party of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids) and were immediately met by a server who clearly didn't care (Jennifer T was the name on the bill). She left our drinks and came back a few minutes later for our order. We ordered an appetizer (cheese fries), 3 kids meals (penne with red sauce, Mac and cheese, and mini burgers), a combo platter, and a flat iron steak. The appetizer came quickly and was decent. It went downhill from there. My son dropped the lid from his kids drink and we asked for a new one. She basically threw it on the table and didn't give him a new straw. She then brought my husband's chili but we had to inquire about my salad. It tasted old, no longer crispy at all. Once the food came, 2 of the kids enjoyed their meals, but the macaroni was not good at all and was left uneaten. The flat iron was tasteless and the vegetables severely undercooked. I only are 2 bites of the steak. The server was unfazed by the meal left virtually untouched. She dropped the check and took a long time to return for the card. We never saw a manager and we will not return ever. Worst dining experience we've had in a long time.
