I wish I had seen these reviews before choosing to dine here. We were craving Mexican and happen to be in the downtown area and the word "gourmet" led me to believe they would have a good product so we went for it. They also offered some outdoor seating which was nice. The bottom line is that the menu options and quality of food are simply just not that good. The whole experience was rather confusing quite honestly. I mean we had a waitress in a collared shirt and tie but yet for the most part all of the wait staff came across extremely unprofessional. The prices on the menu were higher than normal but yet the food was worse and less fresh than any other place I had been. They mention "vegetarian" in the title of their restaurant yet they offered very few vegetarian or healthy options. It is like they are trying to be this downtown classy, trendy mexican-fusion type of joint but they fell short in about every aspect possible. The guacamole was the size of a peanut...well okay, not literally but it was so small but yet we were charged a "normal" price. It wasn't made tableside and I doubt it was fresh. Now, did that stop us from eating the entire thing? No it didn't But that's not the point. The salsa was okay but again, in such a small little dish. It would save them some running around if they would just bring it in a big bowl. The salsa was decent. I ordered a chicken burrito served with rice and black beans. The burrito was supposed to be stuffed with a few other things but all you could get was cheese. It was smothered and smothered inside and out with cheese. The couple pieces of chicken I found were so tough and dry that I needed a glass of water to get it down. Gross. The black beans were pretty good but likely cooked in lard. *shutters* My friend ordered the combo dish--chicken enchilada and beef taco. The beef taco was on a soft taco and it was JUST beef. No cheese, no lettuce, no nothing...just some greasy beef slapped in a soft taco. Gross. It looked gross. Her chicken enchilada had some dooky brown sauce dripping over it which looked atrocious but she said it was okay. She also went with the black beans. The "large" margaritas were indeed large but they tasted more like sour mix than anything else. The service was decent but again something about the whole scene just felt gross. I wouldn't go back.

Great salsa, cold beer. No margarita/liqour on Sunday. Pretty lame for a Main Street store front. Pass next time.

Ate there yesterday for Sunday lunch, ordering the portobello mushroom fajitas. The server was friendly and excellent even though they were slammed with customers at the time, the chips and salsa were incredibly fresh and delicious. The fajitas? The best I've ever had, wow! I wonder if these other negative people ate at the same place lol. We will definitely, definitely be going back! Recommended.

The service is terrible. Food is not that great. Not worth your bucks. Had a horrible experience, not once, but TWICE!!

Started by sitting down in a dining room with no a/c. The waiter, Jerry, was great, though--friendly & hard-working. His superior, though, was rather rude to him infringe of customers. The food had no flavor or spice. We added a lot of salt to make it edible. Also, we ordered fajitas, but they were served with no lettuce or tomato which is usually standard. The bar tender forgot to pour out drinks so they never came. It was overall mediocre at best... Then we ended the night by seeing a cockroach run down the wall by the table.

Food was okay, service was abysmal, no atmosphere, dingy and a plumber fixing the toilet was walking through the main dining area. Even with a coupon, not worth it.... \ my order was missing items, no mention was made or even an apology when I pointed it out... they were out of the item. decor is dingy and not tied to any theme at all. my server was new, but the experienced wait staff was still pretty terrible... food was bland and uninspired. went here thinking a place advertising that it caters to vegetarians would have top quality produce... not so, things seemed prepared/frozen. Menu was unexciting and the cheese sauces really are like ballpark nachos. yuk. and to top it off... i heard all about their plumbing problems because the plumber entered and exited through the dining room and the staff and he openly discussed the problems... ew!!!! i'm giving two stars, generously, because i didn't get sick and neither did my wife.

Fantastic food, extremely slow service. Had a "help wanted" sign in the window. The waitress did her best. We were a party of 5 ands none of the tables fit us. $37 for lunch and my wife and I split a dish. Ate with a Living Social deal. Probably would not go back.

I have eaten several times and i have found the service and food inconsistent. They have a nice spot downtown for people watching and a beer but that is the highlight.

Wow. Just...wow. Me and my girlfriend went over the weekend while at Artisphere, and I'm pretty sure we've never had a worse experience. To make this easy, let me just break it down for you: - It took our waitress 15 minutes to get to our table. - She insisted my ID was NOT me, as she shoved it against my face to compare. (After agreeing it was in fact my picture, she told me "Awww honey, you looked so pretty!"...and I don't now? Kthanks.) - Our food tasted like it came out of a can. - My margarita didn't show up until I was halfway done with my food. - The check was put on our table about 2 minutes after our food came. - Nothing was comped. - The waitress literally said "I normally give the check to the man, but I don't know what to do here, so...you're the dude right? I'll give it to you." (I AM A WOMAN. WE ARE BOTH WOMEN.) It was just the worst. On every level. Do NOT go here.

This restaurant has terrible reviews, so I decided not to eat there and chose a different Mexican place a block away. Little did I know it was a second location with the same ownership/management. I only realized this when I noticed that both restaurants menus were on the cashier's desk and when I walked by Cantinflas and also saw both! The food was bland and boring. It came out so fast it was obviously preprepared. I asked for no cheese on my beans and of course they had cheese. Only good thing was our friendly waitress.

We clearly had a different experience than the other recent reviewers. Our server was very friendly and checked on us regularly. Really enjoyed the Caesar salad and veggie flautas. I like their mission--we serve real food and serve it with love. Our food took a while and was clearly freshly prepared. Would go here again.

The food and drinks were pretty good. The service was even better. Our waiter Kidus was very polite and attentive. If I ever come back to Greenville I will be back.

Lots of NEGative Reviews... well, it appears not-so-bad. Actually had an early lunch on Sunday, sat outside street-side. Food was OK, Service was actually pretty GOOD. Our waitress was very attentive and the dining experience was very good. Had the special of the day on the menu. Salsa was great with chunks of onion and cilantro. Yum. Would do again. Maybe some of the reviewers with negative comments came on a ''bad day''.

Super friendly service and it's always a bonus to be able to have our canine friend join us for dinner. The jumbo margarita is JUMBO and pretty good. It's not the best Mexican food on the planet, but then again it's not your ordinary Mexican restaurant. It's nice to be able to order food not completely drowned in cheese and meat. I appreciated their attempt at serving quality food.

The facade, name, and location led me to believe Cantinflas would serve delicious, upscale Mexican food - a perfect compliment to the many quality ethnic restaurants on Main Street. How wrong that was. Don't be fooled by the appearance. Stay away. The only happy patrons were those drinking the over-priced alcohol! The servers were erratic and rushed, dropping plates and scurrying between tables. It took forever to be served, and when we asked to move outside (because the inside was sweltering) had to take the plates ourselves. The servers look like cheap Vegas girls in tight black pants and "formal" uniforms. The food is on-par with any low-quality local Mexican joint. The "rib-eye steak" was a thin, over-cooked piece covered in tomatoes and onions. The "mexican fries" appeared to just be grocery store fries. My companion's salad was thin strips of limp chicken tossed in a bowl of salad with some stringy cheese. All of this would be acceptable if the prices were not so terrible. For a salad and this "rib-eye steak" and "mexican fries," we paid over $25 not including tip!! You end up paying the prices of a quality restaurant, but get shafted with the service and food.

I visited Cantinfla's early in 2012 with my husband. We were excited to try it because we are vegetarian and love Mexican food. Our excitement died with the first bites of food. My veggie quesadilla was stuffed with the same cheese concession stands use for nachos. The mushrooms tasted incredibly salty and most likely came from a can. A lot of people have cited the fact that the food here isn't exactly "authentic Mexican food". I think the real turn-off is the fact that they serve processed cheese and vegetables and call it gourmet, healthy, and fresh. We did enjoy the outdoor seating right on Main Street in Downtown Greenville and the service was okay. But our food was terrible. I will not visit this restaurant again.

Eating at this restaurant was the most humorous experience. First you are brought out chips that you have to smash yourself to be able to eat because they are basically large flat taco shells. We had a few different waiters come around and they all seemed confused about what was going on. We ordered our drinks and they still hadn't come out by the time we finished our chips and salsa. I placed an order for guacamole that never came. We placed our food order and when it came out half of it was missing. They said they would be right back but 5 minutes later we were having a hard time getting anyone's attention. The crazy part is that they really weren't that busy and seemed to have plenty of staff. My friend asked for just veggies and no rice which of course didn't happen. Our waitress finally came to check on us and was confused when we said we we're still missing part of our order. By the time our tortillas came out the rest of our meal was cold. The food to be honest was not good and lacked flavor. Finally to end the night we ordered some shots. This place was out of Patron!!!! So we ordered Hose. They brought our the shots in regular cups because they had "ran out of shot glasses". Like I said before it was not busy. The only positive side to this restaurant is the location. We would definitely never go back.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I did love that I could get veggie flautas here. The food was good, service was not exceptional, but I do think our server was young and fairly new (I'm hoping that's what it was, anyway). Overall, nice change of pace for Mexican and a good value. I would definitely return.

If you want to go out to a Mexican restaurant--and you're not feeling the dirty, trashy scene that a local Monterrey's will provide--Cantinfla's is a great option. What really sells this place is the quick service, low prices, and vegetarian menu. I've never had to wait longer than 10 minutes after ordering to get my food. The prices are also reasonable for a restaurant downtown ($7-$10). The vegetarian menu is a refreshing change from most places you eat, especially Mexican restaurants. Great place for lunch or a quick dinner.

You know what, I'm really trying to behave myself right now, because I am SO angry at this place. It really and truly sucked. This is the first time I've ever reviewed a place, but I feel this place is so bad I just need to know that people are warned. Disclaimer- I came here for a conference with a few other students so we were unfamiliar with the area. We essentially picked the first Mexican restaurant on Main St because we all wanted to celebrate some papers well presented. So the run down: the worst thing by far was the friggin margaritas. I believe there were three choices- strawberry, peach, and lime. Three of us got the lime and one got the peach- and stupid, stupid us got them frozen. Just cause. Things that were wrong with the margaritas: 1 tasteless! 2 blended with ice instead of frozen- which means they are cheap bastards because they really just served 3/4 ice and 1/4 margarita. 3 $10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT?!?!? The prices weren't on the menu, and I never would have expected to pay that kind of money and they sucked! 4 They took forever to get, and we had to rexplain our order twice before getting them Continuing on with what sucked. This place was packed. Why, I don't know. We had a group of 5. Instead of putting a table together for us, they had us all cram into the shortest booth in the house. The house was relatively full but still had empty tables- yet they only had two menus for us. Soeaking of which, this place proclaims to be big on vegetarian/healthy mexican. I guarantee you, NONE of that food was healthy. Just because something has vegetables in it doesn't mean its good for you. I got the Mayan enchilada- whatever sauce they had on top was just unappetizing. And furthermore, it tasted differently (in spots badly) from bite to bite. I feel like it came out of a bottle that had been reused countless times without being washed. The chips are pretty much whole fried corn tortillas. Great for the restaurant- they can put less chips in a basket at a time because they leave a lot of breathing space. The salsa was actually a little tasty- I hate overblended salsas but this one was super cilantro-y so I forgave it. One of our friends is an exchange student from China- she speaks fluent English but she has retained her accent. She ordered hot water. The server heard her correctly because she repeated the order back but forgot to bring her water...twice. When she did, it was a glass of microwaved water. Which, fine, if you don't have the glassware or the facilities to heat the water sans microwave? Who cares. Understandable. What made me mad was the fact that the server treated her like she wasn't there. She turned to the four of us and asked "if that was what she wanted". Ask her! What else...so yeah. Bland shitty Mexican food. Shitty expensive margaritas. Vegetarian/Healthy shtick is bull. OH, the rest of the service. Our server took forever- she was friendly and all- but she sucked. We sat for a long long long time waiting for checks. Servers were running up and down the aisles playing with each other. Glasses were broken. The restaurant was hideous except for the tables which were rather pretty. Still, the worst bit of the night by far was those freaking margaritas!!! I guess we know how they stay in business, but holy cow- $10 frozen shitty margaritas... Solange

Hey! Whatsup? The service here is kewl. Especially the waiter. My bigs liked him. A lot. But the food was assey. A mole sauce is made from many special Mexican spices and flavors, none of which could you taste in the dull brown liquid spewed over the chicken enchiladas here. It was like chile con carne minus the grease, but then, what's the point? The quesadilla and shrimp fundido used cheese sauce. Not cheese. The margaritas were great if you like corn syrup cocktails with a lime Kool-Aid kicker. The salsa was as spicy as my Grandma's mouth. But, hey! The streetside location is kewl, although you can't drink booze on the street. I'm just saying; this place is as Mexican as an episode of Mad About You. Thank you I know.

Ehhhhh..... So I went here for lunch because it was cheap and I like Mexican food - especially cheap Mexican food. I was hanging out, doing my thing, and the food came relatively quickly. I gotta say - the presentation and quality of the food were up there with what I make myself at 9 PM when I'm running low on groceries. The cheese quesadilla, rice and beans weren't really bad, but why pay 8 bucks to get something I could have just gone home and made myself in ten minutes? And why the hell was my rice, white rice? This is Tex-Mex? Also there's something about the rice from this location.... There used to be a Senor Wraps in this restaurant. (before it... wrapped up. bahaha) The Tex-Mex rice they used to serve at Senor Wraps tasted exactly the same as this white rice. Wonder what the hell that's about.

We are used to excellent Mexican food in California and this was not it. We used a coupon that gave us a FREE entree if we bought one...but we bought a meal for $10 and another for $15...our bill was $30??? Service was good although we had to get our silverware from the next table... chips were round tortillas but they and salsa were ordinary. My husband liked his chicken fajitas but my soft beef tacos were waaay to salty! We enjoyed sitting on the sidewalk on Main Street in Greenville, it is such a fun city, but we will not be eating here again.

  • Trishey N.

Awful, awful, awful. First thing I noticed was the smell. We sat down and perused greasy menus that sold overly expensive completely inauthentic Mexican food. We got the nachos because who can screw up nachos? Well, Cantinflas can. If you're looking for a good meal, don't go here.

While visiting this area, friends local to Greenville suggested Cantinflas. Was reluctant to go after reading the review here. Couldn't have been happier. Pleasant wait staff and generous portions. Although the food is not traditional Mexican fare, it is very fresh, healthy, great vegetarian options and very good. Definitely glad I was convinced to try it!

After running a half marathon, my friends and I were starving for some good food, so we went to Cantinflas - we were not impressed at all. The service was adequate (although my friend got the wrong beans and rice). The food was just not very good. My friend got fajitas....they weren't sizzling when they were brought out, they only had corn and green peppers as the veggies, and only had two flour tortillas - he was not impressed. I got a mixed (chicken and shrimp) burrito with fries as the side...fries? I thought this was mexican! The food overall was just very very average and way overpriced - my burrito at qdoba would have been 6 or 7 bucks, here it was nearly 10 and it wasn't as good. If you are walking down the streets of Greenville, this is one place I would avoid.

  • John B.

not good: no flavor, no "pop'- $17 shrimp fajita with a small dollap of sour cream and cheese on the side. $13 chicken with a few chopped mushrooms- I understand the higher prices are for the downtown location; however, this was poor quality food- $7 for cheese dip that's $3.50 anywhere else. "as spicy as my grandmother's mouth".....that comment pretty much sums up the entire experience. I went because of the on-line coupon- would not go back

  • Robin D.

Their location is within walking distance, so I really wanted to like this downtown restaurant. I was disappointed with the food and thought the prices were high for what you get, so I will go elsewhere if I want Mexican food in Greenville.

Wasn't impressed with the service. I'll find a different place next time I'm in the area.

Bad careless food an unprofessional service. Vegetarian is in the tag line, yet waiter heckled when I ordered one of the few meatless entered. Gourmet? A "chipotle salsa" was definitely a jarred spicy spaghetti sauce. The tortillas were like cardboard - taken right out of the container, wrapped around stuff and sauce on top. Not your typical method of preparing enchilladas.

The words "Gourmet", "Mexican", and "Vegetarian" in the name of a restaurant made my heart skip with glee. Cantinflas is a friendly upscale Mexican restaurant on the main drag (conveniently named "Main street"), and they've achieved the perfect balance of friendliness to both vegetarians and omnivores. They have a full menu of the traditional dishes you'd find at any nicer mexican restaurant -- no fusion or Tex Mex, here. And then they have a vegetarian menu, with almost all the same items, and with veggies, tofu, or assorted soy/seitan fake meats in place of the chicken or beef. Leave the cheese out of the enchiladas/tacos/etc and presto, it's vegan, too. Everybody's happy. The food is good, the servers are friendly, the margaritas made from airplane-sized booze bottles are at first baffling, (local liquor law), and ultimately pretty strong, (unintended side effect of local liquor law.) The salsa was a bit too ketchup-y for me, but I tend to like mine more like pico de gallo. Overall, a tasty dinner, and a great example of how to please almost everyone most of the time.

been several times and didn't like it. i think the "gourmet" part of the restaurant is reflected only in the prices. that word has no place in mexican cuisine. the best mexican food is sold out of a truck in my hometown...and it's rustic. service was good for sure.

Very poor quality food and poorly managed. Took forever to get our black bean soup, which was lukewarm. Then, within 1 minute of our soup arriving, our entrees came out. We asked if they had a place to keep the food warm, as we had expected to enjoy our soup before our entrees, and now the entrees would sit and get cold. Response "not really". Three wait staff stood there looking perplexed at what to do and finally just left our food at our table so we rushed to eat our soup so our food wouldn't get cold, and we were outside so had to watch for flies. Then the entrees - $15 for vegetable fajitas with 2 cardboard cheap flour tortillas bordering on stale, veggies overcooked. Cheese enchiladas were filled with chicken and had to be sent back. $1 for a deluxe topping didn't even have the sour cream promised on it. Cheese tasted old and of poor quality. Also, there are very few vegetarian options, nothing more than you'd see at any other mexican restaurant. We only ate a few bites as just couldn't do it - awful.

We had dinner there one evening, and it was adequate. Just okay. Sat outside, which was nice. Service was quick, food was hot and good but not great. It wouldn't be on the top of my list.

Very friendly service, but I have gone several times & always been disappointed with the Mexican food. Maybe I just haven't ordered the right stuff from their menu, but I much prefer to go to Corona's for authentic Mexican at a cheaper price.

It's sad to see the lousy reviews this place has previously received. My experience was rather nice! I came kind of late on a Sunday, must have been close to closing, and I sat outside. I was super thirsty and was hoping for a margarita, but I was informed that the liquor license was under review, but the beer and wine one is good! So, my waitress offered me a wine-a-rita as an alternative, using wine instead of tequila. They make it with white zin or pinot grigio-I had mine with white zinfindel because it seemed to make the most sense as a cocktail and it was awesome. Do this. I also had the guacamole, which was pretty good, and a veggie-rito (weekend special) that came with rice & beans and I thought it was great! I even heated up leftovers for lunch the next day and it was still really good. Also, everyone working here was super friendly and accommodating.

I found this walking down town. It was a Mexican restaurant. I was glad I decided to eat here. The service was great as my waitress kept my glass full of sweet tea. It was very hot down town Greenville and as a result I was needing something to drink. I also just walked a few miles thru Falls Park, a tourist destination. I got the Pollo Flauta. This is chicken and melted cheese in a wrap (Mexican style). I was surprised with how good it tasted. I also got rice and beans. The beans came in a small bowl with juices. I decided to dump them on the rice. I wished I had kept them separate because they tasted better that way. Do not mix the beans and rice like I did. I can't believe I did that. Keep beans in bowl. They have inside seating and outside seating. I chose to sit outside which proved to be uncomfortable. Let's just say there were pests flying around that kept biting me. I also of course got chips a sausa. The chips were huge, see my pictures. The sausa was of a mild taste but the more you are it, the hotter it seemed to get for some reason.

We went for the first time today and were very pleased with both the food and the service. We ordered the Mayan Quesadilla and Steak con Chile fajitas. Surprisingly many restaurants manage to mess up the basic rice and beans but they did not. It was VERY good and flavorful and setting us up for a great meal. We enjoyed and ate everybite!!! We will most definitely be going back!

We should have left when the bartender ignored us for 10 minutes, and we were the only ones at the bar sitting directly under her nose.. Our server was horrible. .My kids sat waiting for drinks as she sat inside wrapping silverware in napkins. When food finally arrived, the tortillas for the fajitas were all dry around the edges and they only gave you two. My daughter couldn't even eat her quesadilla because it was so bad..spent $90 and could have went to Papas and Beer for our usual $54, fed all five of us, and been satisfied. . If it weren't for Jeff, a waiter from another table, we probably wouldn't have been seated, provided beverages, or felt welcome. If I ever open a restaurant or anyone needs an awesome employee, find Jeff... My wife complained to a somewhat manager, team leader, and the only thing they offered was a free dessert.. Awful, but thank you Jeff..

This place is neither Mexican, Vegetarian or Gourmet. We were sat nicely by the really friendly staff ordered some waters, looked over the menu and we were STARVING. I decided on the Friendly Flautas and T got a Burrito with Shrimp. Not a minute later our food arrived. YIKES, red flag for sure. As expected when the food comes out way too quickly it was terrible. The rice and beans were dried out. The Flautas were filled with old mushy green peppers, flavorless onions and Jack cheese all microwave hot. The burrito had all the same components from my dish re-imagined into a burrito with the addition of severely undercooked shrimp and the same oozing Jack cheese. We had a couple of bites and figured that complaining or sending the food back wouldn't make any of this better. We paid our bill and had to find somewhere else to eat. There was no love of food here.

So accommodating to our large family with 3 crazy kids. And the food was great. The kids menu was way better than what we were expecting. The staff were all very friendly. The restaurant was comfortable, even on a very hot day. Restaurants are hard with kids. They made the experience a little easier!

I've had very different experiences here than other reviewers; I come here fairly often for lunch. The first thing I'd say is that I've never had any sort of negative experience with staff, which seems fairly objective. They have always done things like ask me outside or in, booth or table, do I need menu help, can they get anything else-- and they definitely always check on the meal after it comes. No one has come close to being rude. I'm no gourmet myself, so maybe I can't judge that status, but I do like the food. I have no problem finding vegetarian options and don't stick with a standard. I haven't tried anything I didn't like. It may not be the fanciest food in town, but it seems just fine. Plus, it tends to be quick. The only caution I really have is that it's not the best place to bring someone who's not a fan of Mexican, as there aren't many other options (as there are some places).

As Meg S. said: "The first thing I'd say is that I've never had any sort of negative experience with staff, which seems fairly objective. They have always done things like ask me outside or in, booth or table, do I need menu help, can they get anything else-- and they definitely always check on the meal after it comes. No one has come close to being rude." This was my experience as well. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive... as were several other employees during our meal. The complimentary chips were whole tortillas fried crisp... and delicious. The salsa was fresh & chunky... and medium heat was just right . I cannot imagine how black beans could be "dried out" when served when they come swimming in their own juices from cooking... our take: the black beans were very good and seasoned well... the serving was about a half-cup and I could have eaten at least a whole cup. The Mexican rice was ok... not the best nor worst I've ever had. I had 2 chicken&cheese enchiladas with chipotle mole sauce... I was surprised to see juicy chunks of chicken looking freshly pulled with a generous amount of melted cheese in each enchilada... the mole sauce was milder than I expected but had a good taste to it. Many Mexican restaurants we frequent serve lettuce and tomato along side the entrée-beans-and-rice, but not at Cantinflas. A manager stopped to ask about our meals and we asked if we could have a side of lettuce and tomato to share... no problem... we soon got a bowl with an abundant amount of lettuce, tomato, and shredded cheese to split to accompany our meal... all for a mere dollar extra. Our waitress, even when we were finished dining and ready for the check, extended hospitality and asked if we would like complimentary drinks-to-go. She then brought the drinks and the check. Considering that this restaurant is on Main Street in Greenville (tourist zone), the menu prices were pretty much in line with prices in the Charlotte area. True, higher than taco bell or del taco, but for a sit-down Mexican with wait staff pretty much typical.

I should have checked the reviews before buying that Groupon. My first thought was- it's downtown, everything downtown is pretty good. And, it's Mexican food. Can't go wrong with Mexican food. Well, I was wrong on all accounts. It looks upscale. It's downtown. It's says Gourmet Vegetarian Blah blah blah on the sign. In bulleted format, our experience - the waitstaff looked rough, just out on parole rough - the Grande burrito was pretty tasty, but not Grande, barely medium - the veggie burrito was filled barely steamed veggies with no seasoning - no one asked if our food was okay, no one checked on the table - the portions were small, very small - the prices are consistent with gourmet Mexican food but the dishes are your usual strip mall fare I was so disappointed in this place.

I will never go back again. TERRIBLE SERVICE. We were there after the lunch rush and is was a quiet time - can't imagine how bad it would be if we were there when people didn't have an hour to wait for all of their food to be served. Our waiter was overwhelmed and frantic, even though there were only three tables (including ours) with patrons. Before we were able to order, the waiter grabbed the menus out of our hands to hand to another table. Weird, especially because we really weren't done looking at them yet. So...my husband ordered a chicken quesadilla with soup; the soup was brought out at the same time as my salad - the quesadilla was forgotten until we asked the waiter if he would be bringing out the rest of the meal. Over all we were there for over an hour. It should have been the fastest meal ever (salad/quesadilla/soup) to bring out. The food was mediocre at best. We asked for our drinks "to go" and a box for leftovers. The waiter said he'd get them, then never returned. We gave up and left - and walked right past him as he was standing in the doorway greeting someone as they came in. Our check was rung up incorrectly and I was overcharged. I was given the difference in cash, so no harm done, but it was just one mishap after another. Never, ever going back.

I wish I could give this place ZERO stars! Hands down the WORST "Mexican" food I've ever had. The margarita was large, filled with the most disgusting mixture I've ever tasted and about a pin drop of alcohol. The beans tasted like they came from a can. The highlight of my experience here was the dump I took in the bathroom after I gagged down my meal.

My lunch order took too long and my burrito tasted like a hot dog and came with fries, which I found odd.

Wow - I wish I could give this place negative stars. Honestly I don't think I've ever had a worse experience at a restaurant than this place. My wife and I were in town for a conference. We chose this place because, quite frankly, the sign and marketing make you believe you might be in for a great Mexican food experience. WRONG. Service sucked, margaritas sucked, food sucked. Sorry to be so extreme but I generally check Yelp in new cities and didn't do it this time and the joke was on me. If I would have ranked ratings in date order from most recent to oldest I would have seen a whole lot of what I experienced..... mainly one BIG SUCK FEST. I was with my wife and child when the sheer horribleness of this place hit me and recommended that we stop eating immediately because let's face it - if they put so little care into their service, delivery, presentation, and everything else - what goes on behind the kitchen doors that their patrons can't see. I shutter to think! I also hope that I don't get food poisoning because this is one of those kind of places. When we first arrived place was a little chaotic but what Mexican restaurant isn't on a Friday night. It went down hill from there when I ordered a frozen margarita and I got back what was a margarita on the rocks put through a blender. I mean seriously you can't make this up. Fajitas... equally hilarious. Honestly, I believe anything here is bought at Costco or similar (i.e. salsa was definitely Pace Picante Sauce, Guacamole maybe Wholly Guacamole..not sure). End analysis - SUCK FEST MEETS NIGHTMARE. Alternatively we've had some great food experiences in Greenville and I'll post the good as well. STAY AWAY from this place. I have no idea what the jack-wagon that gave this place 4 stars was thinking (in 2009 no less) but I suspect it was the owner or manager or it was in a decade when the food actually didn't suck. Let's hope this place closes so a real Mexican restaurant can open up. On a final note, I called the restaurant after I got back to my hotel to give some constructive feedback to the manager AND surprise... he wasn't there. On the good side I was advised "I could leave a message for him on his voicemail". WOW... nuff said.

Split the Grande Burrito. Generous portion and quick service. Salsa was excellent. Guacamole was tasty!

Just had a late lunch here. The wait staff was friendly and quick. Their Aztec chicken soup was amazingly tasty.

Food was awesome! Service was beyond terrible. Our server was completely incompetent and left us to go on a 45min break without checking with us or letting us know. Not acceptable at all.

Bland, overpriced food. Mediocre (at best) service. Average atmosphere. Nothing special, at all. Any of the surrounding restaurants is a better choice.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
