The only reason it's getting three stars instead of two is because the food was actually pretty good. I wish I could review atmosphere separately from food. Food: Sweet potato hush puppies were on the special and were very good. Not too much sweet potato taste to drown out a classic hushpuppy. My sister and I enjoyed our BLT's. They even got the bacon nice and crispy for us. My dad, a real meat and potatoes guy, said the burger was very good. Mom got the pulled pork which was excellent. She said you could tell it was homemade. Atmosphere/Service: When I called to see if we needed reservations the girl on the phone informed me no because there was NO ONE in the restaurant at 6 on a Saturday. Okay. We got there and the outside looks more than a little sketchy. The sketchy decor continues inside to some strange cross between a racing theme and hunting lodge. There was a huge tv facing the wall, clearly not working. It looks liked a candidate for a restaurant makeover show. Just a little dingy around the edges. Again, food was good but needs some help in the decor department.

I love this place! It had a wonderful rustic atmosphere and the service was top notch! I had the fried calamari as an appetizer which was tender and delicious. I also had the grilled grouper with a ginormous loaded baked potato. The grouper was perfect! Some of the best I've ever had with just the perfect hint of hickory. I can't wait to come back again.

I am a huge fan of The Blockhouse and would have given it 5 stars until last night. First, the food is excellent, the wait staff great and the Monday and Tuesday night specials make this restaurant a great value on these nights (it is generally a good value all around but the specials send it over the top). Last evening I had a very negative customer service experience. We were a party of four that arrived on a quiet night. Two members ordered cocktails (Extra dry Martini's, which had been ordered in the past at this establishment). When the drinks arrived, they were served in normal size glasses only halfway full. When we questioned the server about this, she stated that this is the way the bartender makes them. We asked to have a full serving and she returned with a third half full glass. We asked to speak to a manager and he came to speak with us after several minutes. At no time did he ask US what our issue was but simply came over, placed a cocktail glass on the table, poured a 1 1/2 oz jigger, placed it in the glass and said "what's your problem". We explained our issue and he said something to the effect of "look, this is a 1 1/2 oz serving and it only comes up to this level, whats your problem". After several minutes of back and forth, we realized that this was not going to be resolved and just let it be. But it was not right and our concerns were not addressed. The manager described himself as "manager and part owner". We continued with our dinner and, as usual, the food was fantastic and the service was good (outside of the above experience). I will be back but I am left still wondering what happened last night.

As advertised, the interior is actually like a ski lodge ... if you like skiing, it feels almost cozy. I think a was looking for my skies when we left. Anyway, the food: We had burgers and oysters and everything was cooked and served as ordered. Furniture and tables were clean, food was good, service "observing" but not annoying. And I think it's the most quiet restaurant I have ever been to in Greenville. Definitely worth another visit. :)

I love this place so much. Some of the seating in the room behind the bar isn't great, but the room to the other side with the wooden booths has such an excellent ambiance. Once you go in you feel like you're in some sort of really old established hole-in-the-wall. You'd have no idea you were right next to Augusta Road: It's like being in Greenville's version of Cheers. It's got some neat touches, too, like having saltine crackers in a basket at each table, and an adjustable knob for the lighting at your booth. Not to mention the cigarette vending machine near the bathrooms, which makes you feel like you stepped into a time machine to get there. I'd recommend their hamburgers, which are served with spicy mustard, a great addition to hamburgers you don't see enough. I can't speak directly to what the bar atmosphere is like, as I've never actually sat down at the bar while I've been there, but it's almost always full and seems to have a great energy. Seems like a fun place to watch a game and drink a beer. Dinner and a drink is gonna put you over 10 dollars but not by too much. I don't know if they take reservations but I can't imagine you'd ever need one because it's never too crowded. Basically, this is the sort of place with neighborhood atmosphere that dive bars and chain restaurants try to replicate but can't ever get right.

This place had it all, great atmosphere, great food, and great prices. I had the prime rib sandwich, and the wife had the Wilbur burger, both were amazing. No wait to be seated and everyone else in there seemed to be locals, ALWAYS a good sign. Will eat there again tomorrow before the Avett Brothers play their guts out for us on New Years!!

Whenever I get back to Greenville I make it a point to stop in and toss down a dozen raw oysters.

Ate here for the first time the other day. I was pleasantly surprised when we were seated in the wooden booth as they were very nice and it felt good in there. Quiet & very comfortable. My French dip looked great but had little taste. I was surprised that the receipt showed charges for the side of ranch and a charge of $3 for FF. My sandwich was $12 and I assumed fries came with it. I should have paid more attention because I would not spend $16 on that meal. If you're paying 12 bucks for your sandwich fries or a side should come with it. We spent $28 on fries a sandwich and a baked potato. Not worth it!

One of my favorite places in Greenville. Gulf oysters on the half shell cheaper than anywhere downtown, and awesome Sunday meat and three lunch. There's also a porch out back where you can sit with your dog.

3.5 stars for the food. 3 stars for the atmosphere. I would have never gone here willingingly because I had a preconceived idea about this neighborhood bar. My friend invited me and I went along not wanting to be difficult to please. Oh wow --I ordered a steak sandwich and it was great. The atmosphere is old, conservative, golf types. I would go back for the food but only with a friend.

I was a little surprised how utterly drab this place was on the inside but there were quite a few people there. The food was acceptable but I would be reluctant to come back if it weren't for the convenient location. The hamburger was bland and tasteless and the toppings just made it worse. The ribs had a decent flavor and tenderness but it wasn't particularly meaty. The grilled chicken was the clear winner but why was it so expensive.

Good food- and great service from Natasha. I had Blockhouse salad with Parmesan Peppercorn dressing. I'd give it 4.5 stars- really liked the homemade bread croutons. My husband had a dozen steamed oysters- were a little small but good. He had ribeye steak and asparagus. The steak was 5 stars fantastic. I had loaded baked potato and it was a little hard; not fluffy .but all the toppings were good. Great meal for the money. Good atmosphere.
