I love this place. I grew up on the normal everyday fast food burger joints. This "King of Burgers" restaurant is unbelievable. I'm on my second visit. Can't wait. This is where the working man can come and enjoy a beefy cheesy cook just right new age #Hamburger#!!!

Stopped by and grabbed a messy burger and fries. It was decent..Just your basic burger joint. Similar to five guys but with more options in toppings and a bar of course... I would pick five guys for better fries and fresher ingredients. But i did come at the end of the night so that could have influenced freshness.

I'm a believer in second chances, that being said i am also a believer feedback. First time experience with any American Roadside and sadly it was not a positive one. Ordered over the phone to pickup 10 minutes later. Got to the restaurant and was happy to find no wait. Sadly the teller was not finished training and took a few moments to ask how to ring out a to-go order. She found my food easy enough which was bagged and ready, all except for my milkshake which is sadly the worst part. What should have already been finished when i arrived, like the rest of my order, proceeded to take 15 minutes. In that time, I stood and waited with my one year old in arm, took my food out to my truck, came back inside, waited some more, and not once did I receive an inquiry to if I was ok by any other staff member who didn't take my payment. I was never given a reason for why food wasn't ready or why it took more time to make a milk shake than it did to make a burger, fries, and chicken strips. Once I got home I was happy to find i still had warm food. This was the only happy surprise with my food. The milkshake was mostly liquid with giant Reese's Cup chunks at the bottom, the sweet potato fries were limp and mushy, the chicken strips where thin/dry and had a "Chipotle" sauce that tasted like cheap Bi-Lo hot sauce. My only add-on or special part of my order was to my burger which was onion rings to be added on a Route 66. The ONLY thing wrong with my order, was the only special thing I asked for. In summary: staff is very green and not focused on customer service, food is sub par, and attention to detail is lacking. Hopefully they will become as nice as their new bar/eating area, because they definitely are not there yet. Good luck!

Tasty and good size servings. Great options for kids and adults. Fast, friendly service. Nice decor. Burger of the month was really yummy! Definitely my new go-to burger place in town.

The first time my wife and I came here we ordered milkshakes. It took 30 mins to get a milkshake! The manager was too busy drinking a beer and watching football to care about the horrible service that was happening inside. The place wasn't even busy. When we finally received the shakes and they were melted. I can't believe a new place in Greenville with a location off Main Street would try to provide top service to get the customers to return.

Disappointing. Got order wrong. Very average burgers. Sign of great American holidays must have been made in China. Halloween but not thanksgiving ? Go to Speros instead.

Great location, great facilities, supremely underwhelming food for a very saturated niche of food. Save your money and go to any myriad of places in Greenville that make a decent burger and don't serve dry fries.

I stopped by finally last night after wanting to check out American Roadside since it's inception. I walked in and thought, what a cool place. It's in a great location a block off Downtown Main Street. The open space, cool decor, nice bar area with TV's. Pretty awesome. The staff and their customer service was top notch. From a C.S. standpoint 5 out of 5 for my first impression. The burgers were decent. I wasn't a fan of the seasoning and my burger was a little over cooked. Fried pickles as a side were good but they don't give you that many. Not enough to make me want to jump to come back food-wise but I am glad I tried it and glad the staff was awesome

There was one server/cashier/bartender in the entire restaurant which, of course, led to slow service. My boyfriend's burger was fine - nothing amazing. My veggie burger, which I ordered "Reuben style," had a southwest flavored veggie patty full of black beans and corn. Disgusting.

I just got done eating The Chicken Club and all I can say is WOW!!!! I ask for it without Swiss cheese and ask for Cheddar and they were gracious and delivered.. The staff are very friendly I would recommend and I plan on returning.. Excellent Job!!!

What an amazing surprise!!! My pimento cheese burger with bacon lettuce on a whole wheat bun was perfect. Their in house pimento cheese was decadent!!! My wife had a build your own turkey burger with no bun. My son had a kids cheeseburger with lettuce and tomatoes and awesome fries!! A short walk from Main Street this place is a must do Burger joint!!

The BEST turkey burger around! Spouse enjoyed his classic cheeseburger. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Highly recommend. Has become our go to burger joint.

A co-worker and I went over to Roadside to get take-out lunch. We ordered, paid (too much) and sat down. 15 minutes later, I took our numbers up to the counter and waited until someone decided to acknowledge me. I asked them to check on our orders, and it turns out they had been sitting on the counter for ten minutes!! So much for a quick lunch! My hot dog and sweet potato fries were half cold by the time I got them. I wish this building was a Five Guys instead!

Great staff, great good, great prices! Myself and my five friends were crawling the pubs downtown and really just wanted a good burger that wasn't going to break the bank. Stopped in here and we were all impressed! I got the Carolina roadhouse, and my hubby and I split an order of (really tasty and seasoned) fries, and we could barely finish our meal. Also found out they do delivery and have a loyalty card. The staff were all so kind and fun. Will most definitely be back when looking to escape the typical downtown priciness.

Iama Critic Rating - American Roadside - 3 Stars 301 East McBee Avenue, Greenville, SC Overall: In all my years of doing restaurant reviews I cannot remember taking two stars away from any restaurant for poor service, but American Roadside is the exception. We arrived on a Friday afternoon, at 4:30pm, well before the evening crowd, there was hardly a soul in the place, and that counts the staff. Sure there were a few cooks in the kitchen, but in the front of the house it seems one hardworking lady did everything. A fact that she was more than happy to tell everyone as if it was something to be proud of. This poor staffing and management only got worse as people started flowing in, and my crew sat and watched the disaster unfold. Even though I specifically ordered my salad and appetizers to be served separate from each other and not at the same time as our entrees, an hour later all our food was served at the same time, which made doing our review incredibly difficult and annoying! However the food was amazing, kudos to the chefs and cooks for delivering some of the best burgers in Greenville. From the fabulous meat, to the perfect buns, these burgers were right up there with the burgers from Cheeseburger House and Mojos, and better than Bad Daddy's Bad Ass Burgers! The Service - 0 Stars (8% tip) Our waitress was the above mentioned hostess, manager, busboy, cashier slash everything! As she was doing everything except cooking, she had no time to do anything properly, except constantly apologize to every customer in the place. Out of sheer appreciation for the chefs we left an 8% - $5.19 tip. We typically provide 20% or more for 5 star service on the pre-tax portion of the bill, 18% for 4, 15% for 3, 12% for 2 and 0% for 1 star service. The Food: $12.99 Roadstar - 4 Stars This is just the plain jane version of the Roadstar. But calling this burger plain is a misnomer. From the perfect bun to the fabulous meat, it is simply awesome. $14.99 Roadstar - 5 Stars This immense burger was ordered with an optional egg and bacon making this one of the most expensive burgers in Greenville, but well worth the price. It was much better than Bad Daddy's Bad Ass Burger at the same price! $8.49 Your Way Double Beef w/Swiss - 4 Stars Sitting beside the Roadstar this sandwich looks small and diminutive, but it too was packed with flavor. If you don't want the coronary bypass that comes with the monstrous Roadstar, order this burger instead. $8.99 10pc Wings - 3 Stars Ordered as an appetizer but served with our entrees, these wings were decent, but puny. If they had cost a penny more I would have deducted a star, but at this price, and with decent flavor, these mini wings earn three stars. $8.99 Southwest Chicken Salad - 3 Stars The avocado in this salad was a nice touch and the chicken was perfect. It is a four star salad, but the price is a bit steep for the small size, costing it a star. $2.99 Sweet Potato Fries - 4 Stars Sweet potato fries now days have to be spectacular just to meet the average. And these fries were spectacular, made so by the cinnamon butter provided to us. The butter was phenomenal, ask for several containers and take a few home! Total Bill: $74.00 for three adults, including tax, a completely undeserved tip, and three soda fountain drinks. Final Thoughts: The food at American Roadside is top notch four or five star stuff, if you can stomach the ridiculous service. But after waiting an hour when we were the first and only customers really chaps my hide! And frankly I don't give a rat's butt about management's excuses, unless an employee died and everybody is in morning, there is no excuse, you are a business, act like it! However, my crew will likely go back to American Roadside just to see if they get their act together and be the five star burger joint they could be.

As a whole I will give this hamburger joint 4 stars. The tots were fresh and crispy, service friendly, atmosphere casual and inviting. The burger had good flavor lacked the crunch I was hoping for. The chili had made the Fritos soggy and I left off the thousand island dressing so don't expect a crunch. So for the meal including tea I payed $11

Not bad. Nothing earth shattering special, but certainly a great bar that happens to serve better-than-average bar food. If, however you're expecting some over the top and premium burger place, you may be in for a mediocre visit. Service was good, food was good, shakes were good, atmosphere was great. Shakes go liquid quick, but when they came out they were great. Order was quick (for 2 of us) and brought straight to our table. We bused the table before we sat down, but that had more to do with us rushing to get a prime non-sun spot than a lack of staff attention. All in all, good, basic, family friendly (before sun goes down) place.

I've been to this restaurant three times. All three times my order was wrong. I will never go back. The last time I went, my server sat down and ate his meal in the booth next to us. In order to get a drink refill, I had to wave him so he would stop eating his hamburger get up from his booth and come over to serve us. This is possibly the worst restaurant in all of Greenville.

This place is awesome. Like really it is. I would not be writing a review if I didn't think it was worth it. Not only is the food fresh and filling, but the service is perfect. Dare I say, its comparable to chic-fil-a. Yeah I know right? Eat here, do it.

The food was ok, nothing special. Everything is over priced and a la cart when ordering. We got kids chicken tenders which were rare on the inside and had to be sent back. Probably wouldn't eat here again. The staff were friendly and willing to explain the menu and ordering process too.

Tasty burger (meatloaf burger) but it didn't come with sides. Sooo... We ordered some tater tots they were quite tasty. The wife had the Hot Mess and it was tasty as well. Don't get the American Roadside beer. .. nothing but a Coors Lite (I like craft). Burgers are small. .. not big at all. Need to get a double to make it a meal. .. great taste tho.

I had the rise and shine burger, it was delicious. The sweet potato fries with sugar and cinnamon were great! Nice staff.

My Carolina burger tonight was delicious. My husband had The Hot Mess, which he said was equally as delicious. The fries were hot and fresh, and service was great. There was a nice crowd in there tonight and that was good to see. Great little bar area and lots of friendly employees. We'll be back!

This place was pretty cool. Similar menu concept as Five Guys, but more options and other sides and sandwiches. Burgers were fresh and not too greasy. My mac n cheese was excellent! Loved the decor of restaurant and atmosphere. Has a full bar for nighttime hangout.

When I review I start out with an automatic 5 star rating and drop or re-add as needed. I went there with my wife and two kids. Two pimento burgers, a hot dog, and chicken strips. The chicken strips were frozen. The french fries were frozen. The tots were frozen (though they were good.). When the order came out we were one order shy (which they brought out eventually and didn't charge for, always a plus.) The drink machine held 6 or 8 choices, and the bathrooms really needed attention. On the plus side, the burger wasn't horrible, but there are way too many better places to go.

Great new burger joint in downtown Greenville. Ala cart style ordering concept. Order your burger how you wish - each one prepared fresh with a number of tasty sides to choose from. I wouldn't call this a bar, but they have plenty of cold draft beer to choose from and a number of TVs hung on the wall to keep you up to date with the lasted games. Seems to be very family oriented and kid friendly. Been back a number of times and am impressed with the consistency of their food. On each visit back it has been more busy each time - word is out. Becoming part of my weekend rotation.

First visit...easy 4 stars. If you're hungry gotta get the quadruple patty Roadstar burger. Got mine with pepper jack, chipotle and grilled jalapeño. Shakes are also good. Will be back to try other menu items. Not too greasy, quality burger and 4 patties for around $8...normal cheeseburger around $5.

First things first. The food: Sadly, though I had great expectations, the food ended up being pretty tasteless. I got the roadside rally--which basically amounts to a double chili cheeseburger. The chilly tasted like it was a heat up special that had been in a freezer bag--sort of like Sonic's chili but not as flavorful---which is pretty pathetic, especially in the upstate of SC where there are loads of Greek greasy spoon joints with phenomenal chili. At least it didn't have beans in it. The meat was plentiful but only tasted of salt. The bun was good...so at least that's something. The fries were frozen, not fresh cut, and overly seasoned. I can't believe in the world of five guys and bad daddy's that any burger chain like this would serve frozen fries instead of fresh. That's nuts. Location is pretty great with lots of available parking--which is rare in downtown Greenville. Restaurant's decor is nicer than you might expect with a name like this. Music over speakers was a bit loud...especially since the place was devoid of any customers, excluding my wife, child, and myself. Customer service was okayish. It seemed like the only one behind the counter that was excited about us being here was the manager (maybe he was the manager?). Major plus--the bathrooms were clean. Which I guess is easy to do if you don't have many customers. To wrap it up, if you want to try this place you'd better do it quick! I don't think this place has much of a chance.

Pretty cool burger joint. Burgers are really good and they have very good side items. Cool atmosphere. Will be back again.

My wife and I enjoyed our first visit. You can get a burger pretty much any way you want it. They have some nice "pre-built" options or you can create your own. The turkey burger is a good option for non meat eaters. There is a wide selection of beers on tap, and lots of TVs if you go to do some game watching. The manager told us that they'll be having live music on the weekends within the next week or two. For the quality of the food as well as the options offered, the price is very reasonable. We'll be back.

Last night's meal was very disappointing. Earlier visits yielded freshly prepared burgers and fries that were delicious. Last night, the meal arrived very quickly after placing our order and the reason why was clear. Burgers and fries had been prepared well in advance and stockpiled for the convenience of the kitchen staff. The restaurant was not that busy. The burgers and fries were terrible - we will not go back.

    (1)
  • Derrick T.

Not the best burger joint in town but pretty good. What they're trying to pull off here is pretty cool is well. I like the fact that they make the burgers with real meat that's something a lot of fast food burger joints can't clam anymore. The customer service is crap (obviously people who don't want jobs) but I'm giving it credit because it's new I'm sure over the next few months they will weed out the bad people and get some good people in there with good customer service. If this doesn't change I will change lower to 2 stars.

Great burgers, great sweet potato fries, helpful and attentive staff... Who could ask for more? Must check out for lunch, and they have lunch specials.

If you are in the mood for crispy onion rings and a grilled all beef hot dog - American Roadside is the place to go for a quick bite of lunch. There is also a wine and beer bar in the back, and I hear they have a nice happy hour.

They have a nice website to place orders through with custom options. There are much better local options vs. this chain that has not been able to process the order correctly two times in a row. If you're going to charge $ .95 for bacon, people tend to want to get said bacon, otherwise they wouldn't add it to their order. The same goes for pickles or anything else you try to add, don't expect to get it. My wife even tried to place a reminder in the special instructions, not that she should have to, but our ticket says bacon, and pickles, and we got home and our order had neither. Since this was twice in a row, I phoned the manager on duty, he was less than thrilled and did not even seemed concerned that they do not fill orders correctly on a consistent basis. He actually pulled my ticket and tried to blame their illiteracy on me. Good luck with that douche bags! Whats the expression, you get good service, you tell ten people, you get poor service, you tell one hundred. All you have going for you is a franchise and good location, your management will run the rest into the ground.

Walked in here, the floors were really sticky and the staff wasn't all that either. Plenty of burger places around, their are better chain places and by far better local places.

not sure what up with all the haters and the low ratings. we came here after ice skating and had the burger of the month with the chipotle sauce which I thought tasted good and was used judiciously. I also subbed the black bean burger cuz I'm off most meat for now (bacon excluded of course) and it was still great. good tots too and the kids liked their meals. nice folks and a good experience. will definitely come back. honestly I'd give it a 4 but am upping it to 5 to hopefully counteract the others.

Lets start with the good stuff, great location. Next the food. Tonight was my fourth trip to ARB at the McBee location in Greenville. My first trip was within the first week of opening and it was a disappointment . I do always like to give the benefit of the doubt to a new establishment in consideration of staff training etc. Tonight took me over the edge. I ordered two burgers and some fries for carry out. I live five minutes away. When I arrived the food was waiting and it was hot. The first bite revealed a medium rare to rare burger. The same for my wife's burger. The fries were as usual very greasy . The only thing missing was the standard poor service. More specifically, a ridiculous length of time to prepare mediocre food even when there are very few patrons present. This establishment claims to offer a premium burger and promotes the Sterling Beef brand. I would suggest some training from either corporate or from the beef vendor. The ground beef is always compacted to the point that is almost tough. The fries just suck, you can probably get better at Sonic. One of the most important things in chain restaurants is consistency. The problem with ARB is the fact that it is consistently a mediocre to poor experience at best. My suggestion to management is to train and supervise staff, throw the hamburger press into the dumpster and purchase a meat thermometer. If a Five Guys, which is the gold standard, were to open within a mile this place would go out of business shortly thereafter. I had high hopes due to the convenience to my Cleveland Forest address, but I'm done.

  • Chris M.

Ordered to go by phone. I received it promptly and the order was correct. Outside of that, there's nothing to write home about. The fries were well salted, but otherwise were store bought. The burger was no different than a nicer frozen burger you can get at the store. A step up from a .60 cent McDonalds burger, but not near a run of the mill burger from a place like five guys.

  • Robin W.

Went here on opening night, not really knowing what to expect. We were greeted at the door by a member of the staff. We decided to sit at the bar where they offer full service, otherwise you get in line to order, which is similar to most burger places. The atmosphere is urban rustic, feels like roadhouse meets chipotle, again very common in decor lately. Lots of TVs too , so slight sports bar feel as well. Overall OK atmosphere with small patio outside which is nice. Food- menu is basic burger, fries, milkshakes, etc., with other sandwiches and some salads. We ordered burgers and fries. This is not one of those high priced burger boutiques. They offer some speciality burgers , but it's a pretty basic formula here. Reasonable prices for good burgers with fun atmosphere. They do need a broader beer selection with more craft beer choices. Summary- So you want a burger, so you're thinking Five Guys or Fudds, but you want to kick back maybe have some conversation as well, (you need a little atmosphere) try this place. You won't break the bank on burgers like the more trendy burger boutiques and you will have a good, hot, freshly prepared burger.

Very much along the lines of 5 Guys and Mojo, but with a bar. Not quite as good as Blackstone on Woodruff. Nothing special, but the service was above par.
