Just a solid 2 star Brewery. I recently decided to stop into this place after many halfway gas ups between Virginia Beach and Jacksonville, FL. I made sure to read a few reviews before heeding into this place and my review started out with 3 stars just as with every place i visit. After walking in and deciding to sit up at the bar it was then that I had a chance to look around at the place. Overall it felt lil you were sitting in the middle of a huge pull-barn. There weren't hardly any windows in the place and it just felt very dark inside as the interior lighting didn't seem bright enough. I did notice the shuffleboard and thought that was cool an unique as well as the several TV's throughout the place for those intense game nights. After asking the bartender guy for a sample of a specific beer he promptly stated that they don't offer any. WTF! I was like are you serious? What kind of brewery doesn't offer sample of the beer they produce. I've NEVER been to a brewery that didn't offer samples or small tastes of beer so this if the very first one. Needless to say I ended up getting the house $5 beer flight and then ordered the Pub Sandwich as well. A quick 10 minutes later it came out and I found that it paired really well with the Goldilocks Ale. As for all the other beers they were nothing special and nothing I'd care to write home about the golden ale was about the only beer that was somewhat tolerable over the other house brews. **Overall this place is a solid 2 stars. The fact that there was not free samples of beer offered completely blow the whole experience for me. Yes the sandwich was great and the building nice but as for everything else, I will say that this pace was just a one-stop-shop for me. I could almost guarantee if I was able to sample a few brews I would have more than likely splurged a little more and had a lot better time. Just not the Southern Hoppy time I hoped for. Cheers!

I have been here a few times and it's just okay. I went for the last time a few days ago. Ordered a pizza half cheese have pepperoni. I was charged 16.75 for the pizza plus and extra 1.75 to make it half cheese! How does that make sense?! I wasn't even told their would be an extra charge. What a rip off for pizza that was mediocre at best!

I am rating this place on the beer and atmosphere. We have had the food, and it is ok, but expensive for what you get. The chicken wings and the pizza were both good, but the hamburgers, eggrolls, and pretzels were just ok. We go every Thursday for Trivia and beer. The beer is good and affordable. Love this place for the beer and the trivia.

This place has gone downhill so fast it isn't even funny. My husband just returned from a company gathering here and the waiter refused to take his order no less than 10 times. Absolutely ridiculous. He wouldn't even take a drink order. Honestly?! Not only that but the people he was with ordered food and the nachos came out with burned cheese. I'm sorry but they need to get their act together because for a place already serving mediocre food to begin with, the service needs to at least be competent enough to acknowledge everyone in a larger party. Unprofessional and downright insulting. Don't waste your money here.

Hops food is below average. The pizza crusts taste like cardboard, the in-house brew is less than memorable. Service is slack, and so is the music. They close on Sunday during football season. For beer, try Apple Annie's or Mellow Mushroom as better alternatives. For food, anywhere else will likely be better. Two stars for decent idea, but execution falls way short in every category.

I have been a patron of Southern Hops since they opened, but today they've lost my business for good. They have a great selection of beer on draft, even though I don't like their beer brewed in site. They also sell growler fills. I did like that there food was all baked, even though it's been hit or miss (raw chicken nuggets once). I was just in their this past Wednsday celebrating my birthday. However, today they refused to sell me two bombers of beer I couldn't purchase anywhere else in town because I didn't want to consume them on premises. I was willing to pay their bar, retail prices, too. They do have a license to sell for off site consumption or they wouldn't be able to sell growler fills. Bad for business. You won't see another dime of my money.

I heard plenty of hype about this place including the food and live music. I went on a Friday evening for the Happy Hour/Early Dinner experience. Let's start with the service. In a word: glacial. We sampled the Margarita, Brewhouse Blanco and Buffalo Chicken Pizzas as well as the Yaki and Southern Heat Wings. The only thing I can say is that based on these offerings, they just try to compensate for the lack of flavor with heat. The people in our party who tried the craft beers (brown ale and golden ale) said that they wouldn't actually drive out of their way for them. I drank Crown Royal & Ginger Ale and there was no consistency to the way it was mixed. Twice it tasted like all Ginger Ale. And it took a very long time to get refills and an even longer time to pay. We were with a party of 60+ from our office for a holiday party. Obviously, the place was crowded but they knew this well in advance and still only had two bartenders. One of those seemed to be busy taking care of waitresses and ignoring the guests. While we were there, a waitress walked by our table and instead of asking if she could help us, she told us we were in her way and asked if we could stand somewhere else. I spent about $45 on my tab (tip included) and felt as if I had been robbed. Overall, this was nothing special and it's not a place I would take friends when they are in town. The live music was also not to my liking but then again, music can be subjective. If I lived across the street and didn't want to drink and drive, I would rather drive to the local liquor store and buy a bottle and entertain my friends at home. It was definitely not worth the drive or the money.

I love entertainment while I eat. Comedy, trivia, music they have it all. The bar high top tables are my favorite places to sit so I can watch shuffleboard or bird dog ms. Pac-man. The 4 stars is because I hated the wings. Everything else I tried was good. It's one of the few places to sit outside which is great... If it ever warms up here!!!!

I was in Florence for business and tried Southern Hops for the first time. The BBQ sandwich and side salad were very good, but I wish I could've had more salad and my co-workers wished the sides were a little bigger for the price. I had a pint of the pecan porter and I really enjoyed it. My co-worker had the IPA and said it was very smooth and that he enjoyed it also. Overall, a nice atmosphere and good local food and beer.

I can't judge the beer; I don't drink beer. There is team trivia on Tuesday, which is nice. But the food...Thy name is mediocrity. Wouldn't think something like soft pretzels could change week to week. Maybe the owner could afford to send the cook to chef's school, or maybe make him eat the food on a regular basis. And the soda water: no free refills, $2.25 a pop. Ouch. Macaroni is ok as a side; the reuben is skimpy and greasy; the cheesesteak is passible; the veggie burger (black bean) needs some work. Some of the server's seem distracted or just don't pay much attention.

Solid offering! Nice section of beer. I took some business folks there and they really enjoyed it. The pulled pork BBQ pizza was a real treat! I am ready to go back again when I'm not the Designated Driver so I can try a few IPAs.

Disappointed. Probably a fine spot later at night, but for dinner I'd skip it. The pizza was very disappointing, especially for $17. They don't have fryers in the kitchen, so don't come expecting any classic bar foods. Their house beer was decent, but nothing to write home about. Service was fine until the end of the meal when it was time to pay... we were in a hurry and the server didn't come for 10 minutes after we were obviously finished. Had to estimate the bill and leave cash. Really, the low rating was for the pizza - just not good at all (we had the "brewhouse blanco" white pizza. Low quality ingredients, boring/bad crust.) The live music added a fun atmosphere, and the house salad was surprisingly good.

What a great treat. If you are a beer lover, you have to stop in one day or evening. Family owned. Lunch is only $5.00 -specials. if your not into micro brew beers, it is okay, the selection is immense. Best wings are the lemon pepper. After work stop in with co workers or meet friends and treat yours self to a recession buster beer.

Florence's first microbrewery & restaurant! The atmosphere is fun & casual, the food is good (great pizza!), and the local and national beer selection is terrific. The kitchen was a little slow, but it gave us more time to enjoy the beer. There's entertainment on some nights and outside eating. We were visiting relatives & now we look forward to visiting them again. It's right off of W. Palmetto St.
