My girlfriend and I stopped here on a road trip to Florida. The interior was definitely a big draw but the food left a lot to be desired. I think they rely heavily on tourists passing through which has impacted their food. We ordered a Greek salad to start and it was just plain iceberg lettuce. Not bad, not good. I got the ruben which was slightly more impressive despite it being a bit salty. The bread was a good quality and flavor. I would order it again. My girlfriend ordered the tempeh on the pita. It was way to saucy and salty. She wasn't able to finish. Wouldn't recommend trying this one. Did appreciate the $2 house wine. The wine was great but eh it was $2 what can you expect. Our waiter was nice but overall the service was slow and casual. We had to flag him down for water and the check. Good enough for a road trip but so was the motels continental breakfast.

Entire experience w/ 10yr old daughter was on-point at MM! I kept hearing about the Richmond location. I just "happened" to be staying at a hotel close by so.. Why not!? We were pleasantly greeted. Ambiance is that of the "free bird" psychedelic age which is totally cool IMO and colorful for younger folk. Waiter, Johnny, was extremely patient and pleasant to work with. His suggestions were spot-on for me(the not so hungry ate three different menu items customer). Ordered the Magic Mushroom soup, pretzel app (which is the pizza dough), Shrimp Rajas Salad, pepperoni pizza, & Key Lime Pie for dessert! Everything was sooooooo delicious from start to finish! Soup was cream based & full of flavor! The salad was one of the best I've had! It had shrimp, sautéed poblano peppers, sautéed onions & mushrooms, crunchy sesame seeds, fresh spring mix lettuce. I diced the salad to evenly distribute all of the flavors. I also asked for the dressing on the side. Josh, the manager, came around to introduce himself and find out how we were. He even served us our dessert! I will certainly have to come back OR MM will need to open up a location in Virginia Beach or Norfolk!!!

Terrible service (20 mins at an empty bar and she asks the guy that walks up if he wanted to order!) with a side of attitude.... Hate to say anything bad against MM as I have eaten at many throughout NC & SC and always great service and food. But this one is definitely unique. Skip this one if you have the displeasure

Stopped here on my way home from florida. Loved the atmosphere, very laid back, ad the name suggests. Got the capri for an appatizer. Large portion size and tasty. Ordered the small thai dye pizza for a main course. It was very filling, great curry chicken and sweet thai chili sauce, but the best part was the crust, thick and cheesy!

Dined at the bar area server was friendly and somewhat knowledgeable of beers and offered samples upon noticing that im somrwhat of a picky beer drinker. Men's restroom reeked of urine and one motto i live by in the restaurant business is the restroom can really set the tone for the whole restaurant. Kitchen is very slow. Actually visited this place twice in one day as i visited florence for a quick business trip. Waited 20 minutes on one half hoagie the first time. The sandwich itself was very good, bread was fresh baked and very soft with a wonderful crust, added a great chew to the sandwich and also had phenomenal flavor, A+ on the bread. The rest of the sandwich had great flavor as well portabello mushroom, sun dried tomato and artichoke heart flavor was all very present and made a great flavor combination, a bit sweet and a bit tangy and the addition of alfalfa sprouts added a nice texture. Only complaint about the sandwich was the amount of mayonnaise used, maybe cut that in half and it would have been a superb sanwich. Just ordered a holy shiitake pie and have been waiting ab 25 minutes so far and only see 5 tickets hanging in the window...35 minutes the pizza is out, possibly one of the ugliest pizzas ive ever seen and has a layer of oil floating on top. Crust is cooked well on the outside but gets a little soggy toward the center bc of the oil. And the pizza slices were not cut through all the way which is a bit of a problem to me if im out ordering pizza. All in all not bad, a bit disappointed with the speed of the kitchen or lack thereof and the pizza wasnt as good as ive had at other mellow mushroom locations but if you're in florence and want decent pizza thats not from a big commercial chain this is your best bet.

Had a $2 Sam Adams and a small Holy Shiitake pizza. The pizza was good, but it wasn't really worth the money IMO. It's a pizza place, albeit a little pricey.

Excellent service, average food. The waitress (Billy) was prompt, attentive, and helpful...couldn't have asked for anything more. The food however was pretty average. The magic mushroom soup, was described as a "mushroom herb broth" was really more like pudding....had been clearly excessively thickened with flour/cornstarch and served lukewarm. The redskin potato pizza was hearty and tasty but was missing a fresh element to it. Everything was on the salty/oily side. The one standout was the "Enlightened Spinach Salad". Very fresh, generous toppings, and tasty. All in all, we enjoyed our selves and would come back but this time would know what to expect.

Was one of my favorite places to eat when I lived in Florence! They had great lunch specials and also do call in orders, which is convenient if you're short on time. They do get a little crowded in the evenings sometimes and it can be hard to find a place to park. It's very clean, they have tons of vegetarian options and gluten-free pizza crust too. Some of my favorite menu items include the tempeh hoagie, the small pizzas (I get veggie pizzas... the small is HUGE, enough for two people), and the tomato bisque soup.

Pizza wings subs etc are much better than standard pub food in the area. Many many beers to choose from, with numerous guest taps. Recommend sitting in bar, for it is less noisy. Service is pretty good.

Excellent road trip stopping point--one minute off the highway! Kids had cheesy bread and parents each got a small because there were too many good specialty pies to choose from! And we loved everything! It was hard not to order a few to go--but we still had three hours ahead of us. It wasn't busy when we were there (5:15 on St. Patricks Day) and the service was super friendly, helpful, and fast. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. I wish we had one of these where we lived--we'd be there at least once a week!

Had my daughters graduation party here. They have a back room you can reserve, and we had two servers assigned to us. They did a great job, made sure everyone was served. I got the gluten-free crust and had the red potato pie pizza which is my favorite.

Located off of I-95, this is pizza at its finest. A chain restaurant with a psychedelic atmosphere. They offer beer and wine. Lots of seating space, so don't let a packed parking lot fool you. Definitely worth a stop.

My review is ONLY for the gf pizza. We stopped here on the way to our hotel on a road trip. Since the bae and I have to eat gf, I thought pizza sounded pretty great. The service was kinda slow, but adequate and they were nice, even giving us to go drinks at the end. The salad was decent for a house salad, and the gf pizza (we had the Kosmic Karma) was kinda a letdown. The crust is very, meh. The toppings were great but I wouldn't go back.

As a first time customer to Mellow Mushroom, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was looking for gluten and non sugar items on the menu and the name was enough to give it a try... Arriving with 10 minutes left to Happy Hour, I was quick to ask for the selections. Huge variety of beers so I was hooked. I enjoyed a Gaelic ale crafted in Asheville NC. But I had never seen a "Blended Beers" section on a menu. Listed was what they called a Chocolate Covered Banana, a blend of a British cider and Young's Chocolate Stout....I've got to try that sometime. A fellow reviewer recommended the mushroom soup appetizer and it was very good. My wife had a Greek Salad and I had a "Mighty Meaty" pizza. It was very tasty and filling. But I cannot finish without complimenting the great service we got. Prompt, polite and respectful. very impressed. Give them a try!

My team came here yesterday for lunch and everyone was super pleased with what we ordered. Our waitress was ebullient and cheery; not at all overwhelmed by our group of 18. I ordered a small pizza; half funky Q barbecue and half buffalo chicken. The buffalo sauce had a nice kick to it and paired wit the tangy ranch was perfect. The funky barbecue chicken was so perfect! The caramelized onions and smoked bacon paired well with the sweet barbecue. The chicken on the pizza was surprisingly moist. Usually when I order chicken on pizza it's dry, but this was not the case at all. My teammate let me try some of her Kosmic Karma pizza and this was my favorite! The pesto was simply perfect. The spinach salad was also delicious! We came back a second time today after out swim meet and did a to-go order. All our food came out hot and fresh. The dough was perfect! And the crust was crisped to perfection. Needless to say, I'm sitting on a very, happy bus right now. All of my teammates are rather content.

The decor is amusing and it's not too loud. If you like rock music and aren't offended by drug references you might find a comfortable regular watering hole.

Cool place with nice atmosphere - kid friendly on the restaurant side. I was solo on business, so I sat at the bar. Big selection of draft beer. First one i ordered was flat, I tried to choke it down but couldn't. 2nd one I ordered was also flat. Told the bar tender and she says something like "yeah we hear that alot". Um hello, this needs to be fixed. To her credit, she didn't charge me for them. I switched to bottles. To my surprise they had kcco black lager - Bonus! The calzone was excellent with extra cheese and spicy sausage. I will come back next time in Florence.

We were driving from DC to Florida and decided to stop here for lunch. I had never been to a Mellow Mushroom. I had just started a diet trying to shed some pounds, so I did not have pizza, I was good and had a salad, which was outstanding. Enlightened Spinach Salad: Fresh spinach topped with dried cherries, apples, homemade candied pecans and feta cheese. Just outstanding. Fresh, innovative, fun, flavorful. My family had pizza and said it was excellent. I asked to see the beer selection, even though I was not having a beer. They must have 40 beers on draft, and outstanding selection. This was a total shock to me. If I lived near a Mellow Mushroom, this might quickly become one of my favorites. Actually there is one in DC (Adams Morgan) and one coming soon to Herndon VA, and I will be sure to dine there! Atmosphere was fun. We were there in the daytime on a weekend and there were plenty of families with well-behaved children. The place looks like it would be fun and festive in the evening. Service was excellent. On our way out, I buttonholed the owner/manager person in charge and told him how much we enjoyed it and that we were from DC. Turns out he is too, and beer is his passion, thus the outstanding beer selections. This will become a regular stop on our trips to Florida. This is located in a huge shopping mall area, and I saw that they have movie deals, so if I was local I would definitely take advantage of these movie offers.

Waited super long for the pizza. The waitress was very nice, they took off 20% from the bill and gave us some cheese bread which we did not really, but really good gesture to compensate the screw up. Pizza was good!

The atmosphere at this place is really neat. My husband and daughter really enjoyed the pizza. Unfortunately I didn't care much for the margarita pizza - the whole wheat crust was like soaked cardboard and there was not much cheese on the pizza. I would be willing to go back again and try something else off the menu to give them a second chance.

Great staff and atmosphere. The pizza selection is large and creative as is the variety of craft beers. How can you get any better than that?

I love going Mellow. They are one of the few places around with vegan options. The alcohol isn't over priced and they employees are very helpful and accommodating. I enjoy the laid back atmosphere and try to eat there whenever I go out. I didn't give 5 stars because they are a little expensive.

I have been to several Mellow Mushrooms and had a pretty good idea of what to expect by going here. I must say, that we dined here twice over this past weekend, and great experiences both times. Friday night we got food to-go. Like other restaurants they have specific parking for to-go orders and will bring it out to your car. On Friday night both my husband and I had calzones- which in the past has always been our go to order at the MM. We had a jerk chicken and pineapple calzone and a chicken and bacon calzone. Before ordering a calzone, know this- they are HUGE. You could easily split one between 2 people. As always, the bread was delicious (they use molasses in the crust) filled with generous portions of stringy cheese and chosen fillings. Mine has given me 3 meals. My husband ate his in 2. We were actually in town for a tennis tournament, and the other members of the team wanted to try the MM out after our match on Sunday. We arrived at 1pm with a party of 9. They were able to get us seated almost immediately. Members in our party had a bit of everything. Someone had the tomato soup, which arrived with a cheese covered piece of french bread floating in it. He said it was VERY good. 2 of us had salads, and the portions were generous. I'm not sure if all MM's are doing this now, as I have never seen it before- but I did the build your own salad option. As I have food allergies, this is a great option for me. We had 3 calzones, 2 house calzones, and 1 steak calzone- everyone thought they were incredible. We also had 3 pizzas, a veggie, pepperoni, and house. Everyone was very happy with their food, and pleased to have leftovers to take home. We had good service- nothing spectacular, but nothing to complain about. Everyone enjoyed the great selection of beers that they offer as well. I would absolutely dine her again next time I am in town.

Just might be my favorite pizza place ever and that is saying a lot. Lots of choices for vegetarians, including tempeh and tofu sandwiches. The mushroom soup on the appetizer menu is particularly delicious -- made from four or five different mushrooms. I have been to several Mellow Mushroom restaurants and I can honestly say that this one in Florence is the best of the bunch.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know what Mellow does. Pizza, salads, sammiches, etc. I'm only reviewing this chain's location to tell you that they're doing a good job here. We had a very professional server, good food and cold beer. This location is still pretty squeaky clean, with little to no hipster frosting on it. Perhaps over time it will accumulate some Jack Kerouac quotes or Electric President stickers.

We ordered a BBQ pizza and it had a really tasty crust but it was pricey. It was somewhere around $25 for a pizza that was good but not spectacular. I personally have a hard time paying that much for a single pizza. I went here another time and ordered one of their sandwiches and it was definitely nothing to write home about. This place's strong point is definitely their pizza but be prepared to pay a lot for a pizza that was heavy on the crust (albeit a cheesy crust). The staff was friendly both times I've been here. Be warned that parking can be a pain in the butt. We've had to park in the target lot before.

I've been to two other Mellow Mushroom locations, and seeking a Gluten-free Vegan option while driving FL to NY, this was our dinner spot. Just off I-95, this Mellow Mushroom was very easily accessible and not out of the way. Pros: Very clean. Spacious, fresh, bright, and well appointed. Funky and casual, but a definite step up from other roadside staples. At 3:40 on a Tuesday it was empty inside. We were seated promptly, and our server was friendly and attentive. Cons: Salad was meh. A few browning pieces, though entirely edible. Definitely nothing special. Pizzas at Mellow Mushroom are made to order and I wish servers would be forthcoming about how long it takes. Dad was getting anxious for his pizza after 20 mins, and this was a day where it was not busy at all. GF crust takes even longer (another thing I'd like to hear about beforehand). Pizzas were super sad. Mine had sauce, cheese, and toppings on only the middle 1/2. A huge outer rim was just plain crust. I ordered two toppings, mushroom and artichoke. The pizza came out with a good number of shiitakes but only a few tiny slivers of artichoke on it. Famished after a long car ride, I didn't say anything because I didn't want to send it back. All in all, it was totally edible (when you're GF dairy free how often to you get pizza?). But on a different day if I had time to have it remade, I would have said something. So, not the best Mellow Mushroom I've ever been to, not the best pizza I've ever had. But everything was edible, and it sure beats any other options in the area, especially if you have dietary restrictions.

Friendly staff from the time we walked in the front door. The food was absolutely excellent and if we are ever back in Florence SC we will definitely go back. Our server Harley was the best!

Very disappointed. Drove an extra hour up 95 to come here. When we arrive they are sold out of gluten free pizza crust - the only reason we chose to eat here!

Food is fine but the service is really bad. We stopped by this place on 2 occasions while traveling and have been shocked by how slow the service is. Almost twice the wait of any other mm

Egads!! I don't usually Yelp chains unless I have a good reason too. I figured the good people of Florence should know what they are getting themselves into before they head over to the new Mellow Mushroom. This place had been pretty crowded over the last several weeks so I decided to steer clear until the dust settled. This particular Mellow Mushroom has been open for about a month now but seemingly hasn't worked out all the kinks yet (more on this later). First and foremost parking is a chore. The parking lot is very small and you will likely end of stealing a park at the local Target. We went around 5:30 pm on a Saturday and surprisingly were quickly seated. The inside of this place is deceptively large and has a good amount of large tables for big parties. The host/hostesses in the front seemed to know what they were doing and readily seated people without any lines forming. Plenty of benches to sit outside if you have to wait which is nice. Our waitress was way out of her league and was run ragged the whole night. Didn't help that she was taking care of several large tables in addition to our table of five. She forgot to bring my appetizer and was a bit slow on filling the drinks up. The wait for the food was a very long one. I am sure that elephants conceive and give birth in the time it took us to get our food. Granted this place was new but having to wait over an hour and fifteen minutes for just pizza and sandwiches seemed a bit ridiculous. At least the food was hot when it came out. The staff was apologetic which gets them back 1/8 of a star. I tasted the sig-o's calzone which was just average. I ordered the Magical Mystery Tour pizza sans the jalepenos which was pretty good. The food was slightly above average but nothing spectacular and definitely not worth the wait. I would probably call ahead and get another one of their pizzas take out but wouldn't want to dine in until this place gets the kinks worked out. Worth a try if you want something different in the FLO.

I must give this Mellow Mushroom a thumbs-up for providing a good, fast, and inexpensive meal on a recent road-trip. We split an order of Parmesan pretzels (yummy), and a Portobello Mushroom Hoagie (it hit the spot). Service was very friendly, very attentive, and very respectful of our desire to quickly be on the road again.

  • Michelle D.

Pizza had good flavor, but it was lukewarm in the center and the plate was watery, so the bottom crust was soggy. Definitely not worth $25! I went to wash my hands on the way out, and a waitress (NOT MINE THANK GOD) walked out of the stall and out of the bathroom without washing her hands. I tried to find a manger on duty, but there was none to be found.

Great place for lunch. Very broad variety of pizza choices from complete pies to select your own toppings on 1 or 2 slices. Our pizza and tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich were all just what we hoped for. We'll return when in the area. Friendly service, too.
