Inferior and highly variable quality. It is cheap but that's only due to what you get. They have a lunch special, and sometimes it is alright, but in other occasions it is simply bad, or they run out and offer a substitute but charge you full price and not the special price. That makes a little bit of difference, but it is not fair. I didn't want to argue about it, so I just let it go. I will go back because I have a couple of friends that like to go there. I really do not know why. They are not that poor like me. Most of the clientele is older, and that means they have lost their taste buds. I just can't believe this place has managed to survive such a long time, but they seem to be appealing to those who work nearby. After all, it is locate in an office complex and that gives the restaurant a captive audience. But take it from me, don't go there is you expect a quality meal or a good deal for what you get. They need a good cook, but I suspect that some of this stuff is just coming right out of a can. However, if you go there, stick to the salads. And, by all means, never order the rice and gravy.

Why do I have Admiral Akbar screaming in my head "it's a trap!" It's because this is the worst food I've ever had in Columbia! I should have read the clues. I should have been smarter. I should have followed my instincts. I should've known I was in trouble because I've been here twice without eating! (Thank you for not having the hours posted.) Another warning should have been when the waiter said that most of their clients were the older variety. But no, me and my girlfriend trudged on ordering the specials tilapia with french fries and hush puppies, and a barbecue sandwich with chips. Instantly I knew something was wrong with my girlfriend's dish she stopped eating after a few bites, so I took a bite of her fish which had no flavor, the fries which were cold, and the hush puppies were the worst I've ever had! I had to fight the strong urge after eating this and the barbecue sandwich from acting out John Hurt's dinner scene from Alien. ( moviedeaths.com/alien/ka… shame on you if you haven't seen Alien) you know you just had bad food when the best part of your meal was the coleslaw and I hate coleslaw! There's only one thing left to add, WTF, why are you only open for four hours a day (m-f) why bother? I know, I won't bother coming back! Sidenote: I have to come back one more time, (this time alone, GF will not go back!) The other yelpers have claimed that the "Trap" has a good burger, so I must try. But, I have my doubts! Plus: How the hell do you mess up hush puppies? (StarWars+Alien=EpicWin!)

The Mousetrap Restaurant is the fourth burger place on our cheeseburger crawl. It is a nicer restaurant than a lot of the places we visited so far, at least in the sense that it offered tables or booths to sit at, we ordered from a waitress, and there was even a covered-up piano, which I assume people sometimes sing at in the evenings? In that sense, this isn't quite as fair a comparison to the other places, but we decided to include it on the list anyway. It also offered a wider variety of food other than just burgers, but since this is a cheeseburger tour, all of us ordered the cheeseburgers from the menu. This restaurant is definitely one of those word-of-mouth places that you would never know about unless someone else told you about it. You would never drive past the place (see the next photo and description), so you could never just randomly drop by. The main patrons of the restaurant seem to be a lot of old-time locals who probably have been eating weekly at the Mousetrap since it opened in 1978. A comment about the ambiance of the restaurant: Betsy says: "I like the atmosphere, being in a restaurant that no one knows about, surrounded by older people." Among the burger they offer here is the Mousetrap burger. It is basically a bacon and swiss cheeseburger. In addition to regular hamburgers and cheeseburgers, they also offered a pimento cheeseburger using homemade pimento cheese, but none of us tried it. We all talked about the fries offered here: they were definitely a bit disappointing. Betsy said they were mediocre. Andy says: not impressed. Consensus: middling. They were advertised on the menu as steak fries, but they ended up being thicker crinkle cut fries, a bit too crunchy. -Some overall comments about the burger: I noticed that the burger is pretty big - not enough to split for two people, but definitely bigger than any that we've tried before. Andy says: "I liked the bacon, it was crispy. Pickles had a good crunch." Both me and Flarké liked the bacon, I thought it had a good smoky flavor, but we both agreed there could have been more bacon offered. Here are our ratings on the cheeseburger and fries: Average Rating: 3.7 For more details about the food, as well as photos of both the restaurant and some of the dishes offered here, you can visit my food blog, epicurious-eats.blogspot…

The Mouse Trap used to be a really great place for locals to get together for a nice lunch. Now, I'm shocked it's still open. I went back here last month for the first time in a year or so and I don't ever plan on going back. They were out of some of their staple items and they had one waitress for the entire restaurant....at the height of lunchtime. This place has turned into the restaurant where you ask for something on the side or you ask for something small like a lemon in your water or whatever, and they never get it right. The waitress we had was nice enough, but she had no idea what she was doing and was sloooow as heeelll. The food isn't great and the service is lacking. Not worth it at all.

Burger was good. Fries fresh and crisp. Service was slow and cold. If you're not a we know you by name regular they could care less. Took well over ten minutes to get a slice of pie. Crazy! Prices are good though.
