Great food for a great price. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because it needs a face lift. If you actually look around the whole place looks run down.

Wow! It's like the SC version of Shogun haha!!! First meal for my bro out of post!! Definitely larger portions .. Unlike Shogun and Benihanas this place lacks flavor.. No garlic fried rice like I'm used to in San Diego and less butter and all the other good stuff that adds flavor. Sushi- wouldn't recommend it. Ordered a basic crunchy roll and figured it was safe.. :( I definitely regretted it.. On the positive side service was quick and efficient .. Chef we had was nice.. Ultimately, at the end of the day I'm more of a quality over quantity kinda girl .. So if were to ever venture out here again I probably wouldn't come back...

I was wondering why there were so few reviews here on Sato. After eating here now I know. I gave it two stars only because of the incredibly great service we received from the waitress. You know it was a mediocre meal when the shining dish of the night was the clear broth soup (broth with a couple slices of mushrooms and green onion.) they started the meal off with. It was a disappointing downhill ride from there. We are not strangers to Japanese steakhouses and enjoy eating there several times a year and usually we enjoy sharing the experience by inviting others. Glad we didn't bring anyone along this time. The sauces were bitter (both the ginger and mustard sauce) and my favorite Yum Yum sauce (white sauce) wasn't made right at all. (most restaurants are very similar) I ordered steak and scallops and the steak was advertised as a rib-eye. When it came out it looked more like a NY strip (no marbling at all) the steak was tough and not a lot of taste. I had better hopes for the scallops but the scallops had an unappetizing off taste. I couldn't eat it. The manager said they didn't know why they were even serving the scallops because they themselves didn't like the one they use and then said that they personally love to eat scallops. So if the manager doesn't like these scallops then why serve them at all. The were "gracious" enough to remove the scallops from my bill seeing that I didn't eat them. In the future I plan to continue to visit Japanese Steakhouses but Sato will not be one of them.

This hibachi place is the best in columbia! I have been to many hibachi places around the area but this one is my favorite! The food is NOT greasy like most of the other places and they give you wayy too much food which is always good! The steak is so freshh!! :) I highly reccomend!

My boyfriend and I used to live in Columbia when we went to USC. We used to go here often. There was one chef that we really loved. I can't remember his name, but if you don't get him it's a little hit or miss. Generous portions and wonderfully cooked.

This place is ok at best. Our server was gone the entire meal and it's annoying being out to dinner with nothing to drink. The food was low quality for the price. Won't return and don't recommend. The chef we had was very nice that's the only reason I gave it 2 stars

I've been here before, the service was slow on prior visits due to it being crowded. I went with my girlfriend last night ( it was her first time), the service was HORRIBLE!! It wasn't crowded, we got there around 5:45, was ignored for about 15 minutes I wanted to wait because the food is good. There seemed to be ONLY one waitress and she was busy "chatting it up" with another couple. Finally we got served, asked for no vegetables, vegetables was in our food. Then we only saw her at our table twice the entire time. It actually took her 45 minutes to pick up the check!!! The only reason we waited was because we were watching a good episode of the first 48!!!! I ALWAYS leave a tip, but couldn't do it last night because the service was just that bad!!! I do have a tip for Jennifer, pay more attention to ALL your customers, not just the "regulars", and collect the check in a timely manner. The restaurant as a whole needs a MAJOR makeover inside & there isn't enough parking. But the food is good. I will not be going back at least not to dine in. I prefer being a "take out" customer Not a satisfied customer at all!!

Compared to other hibachi restaurants the food is just ok. The restaurant is also very outdated appearance wise. Our server didn't come back once she gave our original drinks. Another lady had to fill them up. The chicken made me rate this a 3 instead of a 2. This chicken is really good and was the best part of the meal. This particular restaurant is just more convenient to downtown Columbia over the other ones on Harbison. That's the only reason we come to this one. The best part of the experience was being there the same time A'ja Wilson was.

Prices were great compared to where we used to go in Louisiana. A lot if choices and good specials. Like mentioned in other reviews, its a little out dated but that doesnt negatively affect how I think about the place. I also do my reviews as the time goes on. My wife did notice a huge dead fly on the hibachi grill. The chef just picked it up and threw it on the ground. The food was average but you dont walk away hungry. Tons of food! Staff friendly and helpful.

Not sure about their hibachi, but the sushi is great, fresh and well priced. Good quick place with great service.

Their hibachi is very ordinary not so good not so bad. I don't recommend to order their sushi. They are just like those bento box from kroger or publix. Nothing special about this place. Hibachi is not low priced food. I'd rather go Yamato near Columbiana Centre Mall.

Great food and very intertaining. They let you pick another table if you don't want to sit with screaming children.

I wasn't 100% convinced that I would love Sato when I walked in, the semi-old building was dark inside and had a strong smell of fried rice. We almost left when we heard that they do not serve Sushi. But, thank God we stayed, we ended up having a wonderful time with the other family at the table and our chef, who were quite talkative. My wife and I ordered a steak and shrimp special for $15.95, which was an incredible deal. First, a mountain of rice was cooked for each guest, with sauteed veggies and an array of dipping sauces. I could have easily been satisfied with the dipping sauces, rice and veggies alone, there was so much food! Then the main course came; I only sampled it, then packed a large box to go. We chatted with the other family for quite a while, then left, fully satisfied with our experience.
