Originally from Cola & use to get a split orange beef/chicken dish all the time - servers never had a problem with it. One day, the owner took my order & she refused to split it - said it couldn't be done. It would upset the balance of the universe on some quantum physics level or whatever...fair enough, it wasn't on the menu, so I chose not to be a diva about it. FFD 12years and we are here to meet friends. I had the flounder, which was great. Service was very good & we tipped him 20%. We then ordered Van Gough Espresso shots and the liquor was absolutely DILUTED!!! I am done. It was 2/19/14 around 7-8:00.

My grad school cohort and I used to go here every Friday night. They were really accommodating with our large group every week and the service was friendly and fast. The sushi rolls are fresh and unique. I love the Palmetto roll - a little sweet but once I ordered it, it became a staple.

The Miyo's establishments have always been great. The food, the service, excellent. I recently frequented the one on Forrest Drive, and it was great. Max, the bartender -excellent. That's what keeps people going back to a place. Also, I like knowing the servers/bartenders - it makes me feel at home. There are other places I could go, but I choose Miyo's at the end of the day. It's great going somewhere where you know you will be taken care of.

This place never fails me. Whenever I come back to visit Columbia, I choose this place or Miyo's. I can't go wrong with anything on their menu. Whether it is the Singapore Style Rice Noodles or the Deluxe Noodle Soup. The portions are always a nice size and delicious. Fast and friendly staff! Also you can't go wrong with any of the appetizers. Tried the vegetable tempura for the first time and they were amazing. I just can't say enough good things about it.

I can only comment on the sushi. I ordered their special, red devil, and was very disappointed. The fish on the outside of the roll, salmon and tuna, had no texture and were at room tempature. Two major signs of old fish and incorrect storage. I am hoping to enjoy the rest of my evening and not have to hug a toilet later. I did not partake in their wok menu but I would recommend it over the sushi anyway. Not a deal breaker but they have the wine selection of an olive garden, minus the sangria. On the opposite side, the service was good and the other patrons appear to be enjoying their meals & time.

I came here for brunch with my family. I really liked it, and so did they! I was impressed by the size of the menu. They have noodle dishes, they have rice dishes, they have sushi, salads, and even old time favorites like General Tso chicken. The decor is very pretty and their bar looks cool. Service was great. I would like to come back soon. The only downside was parking, since it is in the part of the Vista that has more small businesses and offices.

  • Cynthia M.

I never had a BAD meal here until today. The general TSO chicken was overcooked. Too crispy. I didn't send it back due to time restricts. Apparently the chicken was sitting for awhile. Wow so disappointing.

This is usually one of our go-to lunch spots but decided to take a big group for dinner. Party of 14 with great service (probably not a lot of places you can say that, especially on NYE). My favorites on the menu: phat tai: comes with chicken & shrimp (you can specify how spicy you want it), shrimp fried rice w/ edamame, black dragon roll (broiled eel w avocado & spicy tuna), but my favorite is the avocado salad (crab, avocado & thin noodles). Good drinks, too. A little too much ice in my martinis (dirty & ginger) but overall good bar service. Very extensive menu, something for everyone. Definitely one of the best in town.

  • Tai B.

Food here is reasonably priced and tasty. I got the Kung pao shrimp and really enjoyed it. It was good, but I think would have been better with chicken as the shrimp tasted a little off. (Can't really describe it. ) The portion size for lunch is very generous though it was so good I didn't save any!

I have frequented this restaurant for years. After eating there tonight I will never go back unless I'm forced. Service was horrible. Food was not good. Waiter spilled soup on my friend, drinks were never refilled throughout the meal. Other minor complaints on service. I ordered spicy tuna rolls and salmon sashimi which both tasted...off. Didn't finish my rolls and I never leave sushi on the table. It was awful.

It's got a good atmosphere and I appreciated the sashimi. Full bar as well and some friendly staff.

I'm a frequent customer at all of the M's in Columbia, Vista being one of my favorites, followed by M Cafe, M Fresh and M Grille. The quality is consistently good, and comes out FAST, which makes my 1 hour lunch timeframe during the week much more doable. I love the spicy eggplant dish, mixed with shrimp and chicken, along with the mongolian beef, but who am I kidding, every dish I've tried here has been great. The sushi is also a solid choice, especially the Godzilla roll. I like the layout and decor of this place better than some of the other M's, as it seems a little more upscale. Huge bowl of fortune cookies by the door in case you don't like the one you're given at the table!

M Vista is filthy inside and the bathroom will make lose you appetite! Some items were decent some were inedible. Better choices for Asian Cuisine.

I have been eating at Michelle Wang's restaurants since her simple Main St location opened in 1997. Though I don't eat much sushi, I've never had a dish that wasn't good to excellent. There are a half dozen locations in metro Columbia, including MIYO's. I've noticed several negative comments about the 'too-large' menu, probably referring to a now-gone 'book' of numerous pages, which I also found to be much too cumbersome. But this has been replaced by a concise front/back menu, refined like the selection of dishes, over the years. M Vista is definitely for the discerning palate. I consider this to be Columbia's finest Asian restaurant, with all other locations close behind. The Thai Basil dishes are my favorites, especially with shrimp. The Singapore Rice Noodles are to die for, just the right amount of curry. One can find this quality of food only in much larger cities, and I date Columbia's 'foodie' renaissance as BM or AM [before/after Miyo's] :) Did I say no MSG...ever. Also a great bar and staff.

This is my favorite sushi place in downtown Columbia... The menu is great and I love the Hawaiian and Mcafe roll. The drink menu is also very extensive.

  • Carleigh M.

I got the green dragon roll and an avocado salad on my visit to M vista. It was ok. There was too much cream cheese in the roll and it was too big so it was difficult to eat. The avocado salad was all imitation crab and just a tiny bit of avocado, but it tasted pretty good once I added a bunch of soy sauce. Overall my experience was ok, but all I tried was the sushi so I'm not sure able the rest of the menu.

It's my go to place. The service brings me back. The bartenders have changed a few times in the past few months but Patrick is the best, always looking out for the customers & keep the staff going 100%. No slacking off on his part. Again great to see an employee take some pride in their job & appreciate the customers. I would definitely recommend as opposed to some other restaurants in town I visit.

  • Robert B.

The place has a great decor and good service. Nice plate presentation too. However, I was expecting more flavor with my selection. It was a bit spicy but not much flavor.

  • Chris J.

Wow. Terrific menu. Definitely get the Hawaiian roll. Also sit at the bar and ask for Steph. Terrific service.

  • Planters V.

I'd give this 3.5 STARS if possible. The food was good, with Singapore noodles w/ chicken being a sizable portion. Edamame was average. Nice atmosphere. Overall though, our seat wasn't cleaned that thoroughly, and the service was just OK.

Food wise - I am writing this based on my other experiences at M Vista. I usually get the Maestro Chicken, but decided to try something different - Chicken Pad Thai. I had noticed on the menu they use fish sauce of some sort and had asked the waiter if it could be left off. He mentioned that is what dish is cooked in and I might want to leave as is - which I did. Worst Chicken Pad Thai I have ever had (stick with true Thai places for Thai dishes). Like the design of this location. There is a room for a large group of people. Prices are sort of on the high end.

    (3)
  • Taylor H.

I have enjoyed the sesame chicken (you can choose steamed or fried chicken) and the maestro. Both had good flavor. They have good dirty martinis and wonton soup too.

I like all of the Miyo's restaurants. After spending an extensive time in Hong Kong, I know that Americanized Chinese food can be sub par and far from authentic Chinese food. Miyo's brings its chef over from China, so the food is the best of both worlds. It's prepared in a clean kitchen and tastes like China. Their sushi and sashimi is fantastic and affordable. Dessert is plentiful and also fresh. The Godiva chocolate cake is heaven on a fork. The sorbet is pure frozen goodness. I encourage everyone to eat here for good Chinese food.

  • Dorothy C.

Wonderful! Absolutely wonderful. Started with the lobster spring rolls. Steamed beef with sesame and broccoli and vegetable fried rice for a main dish. Portion was enough for two. Mango sorbet, oh so good, for dessert. Drink selection was tempting and after spending most of the day in the rain, it was the peach cosmopolitan. Waitress was prompt and polite. Did not rush is and allowed us enjoy the food and have great conversations and catch up. Establishment is ultra clean and tres chic. Parking is ample and located behind restaurant. Some of the healthiest food served in the area. Private dining room for large parties. Bar was busy all night

The sushi here is great and I've eaten it dozens of times. Service at the bar is top notch and if you're lucky, you'll get Ryan to take care of you. He's a great bartender and mixologist. They used to have a roll called the Rabuck roll and they can still make it even though it's not on the menu. It's unique in that it has fresh jalapeño and cilantro in it and is a personal favorite of mine. The apps like the potstickers and avocado salad are excellent. The only downside is that the beer selection sucks. No draft beers and only a couple regional offerings. The food and service make up for the lack of good beer.

M Vista has a nice decor and the service is good, but the entree' I had was not as flavorful as I would have preferred. My wife had sushi that she liked very much. If I could have given M Vista 3 1/2 stars I would, but it didn't rate 4 stars. I would eat there again, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

  • Amanda R.

It would be hard to grade this place based on one visit because their menu is huge! I was very pleased, though. The service was great and I'd definitely recommend the Hawaiian Roll. It was delicious and unique. The ginger martini was pretty tasty, too! Overall, I'd say I'll go back.

Awesome Palmetto roll with a little honey dabbed on top and I always love the Thai Basil Beef. Great assortment of wines too.

I love M Vista, I would M Vista a 4.5 out of 5. The atmosphere is great, the service is great and the food... Well, healthy delicious food options are hard to find in Columbia, South Carolina, but M Vista does a great job of filling that need. This is a great casual date spot and the price is right for the quality of food you are receiving. I highly recommend it if you have not been.

  • B T.

The menu and atmosphere are both great. I like the fact that they offer brown rice sushi instead of just the unhealthy white rice variety, which crosses other sushi restaurants off my list immediately.

I've been going to this restaurant for several years now. Up until the recent opening of M Grille nearby, I ordered the same entree every time. After M Grille opened, I noticed the consistency of this meal went down and more often than not, something just didnt didnt taste right about my usual. Maybe they moved the chef? Anyway, sometimes the meat was chewy, red, flavorless, or not the right temperature. I continued to go but stuck to ordering sushi, as it's much more difficult to ruin raw fish and rice. Occasionally if I ordered sashimi, the fish would be slighly frozen in the middle. l did love the Thursday night bar staff, as they were two of the only bartenders who made more than the generic smirnoff "cocktails" on the menu. M Company doesnt take Columbia's interest in good drinks that seriously but with the right bartender, it can be overlooked. I wouldnt recommend going here again though until they get a few things together. In the meantime, I suggest you go to Antai, as the food is very similar and much more consistent in quality.

The decor was great and the service was fine. I had the Chicken Cashew and it was bland said made for a kids palate. I got Tuna, Salmon and Eel sashimi and it was a bit mushy and the texture was off. The prices were a bit high for what it was. I would get a better meal a hibachi grill and it would have been cheaper.

I've always had a good experience here. This is my favorite place for sit down sushi and their calamari appetizer is my favorite! It's always hot and crispy with a great dipping sauce. The atmosphere is nice and the service has always been decent. I had an issue with my bill once and the manager was extremely helpful in remedying the situation. Looking at some of the other reviews, they mention the owner and how she is not so nice. I know someone who used to work there that attests to this and says everyone calls her 'the dragon lady' because she is so harsh. I've never seen her personally, but even if she is a big fat meanie, she knows how to whip up some good food! They get 5 stars from me.

    (5)
  • John R.

SO GOOD. And our server, Camden, was SO CUTE! I've heard from people that have worked here though that the owner is bizarre and rude, which is weird. And the servers' sections look super huge, so they often appear overwhelmed. Whatever, I'm a fan.

I really hate to need to write a negative review--I've been a long lover of all the Miyos locations. Here's why it's negative... Our dinners came out with our appetizers and before our soup and salad. Our drinks didn't come out at all. The waiter should have known better than to bring the food all together but apparently he didn't. I had to ask the waiter (when he finally came back) if he could take our food back and put it somewhere to stay warm while we enjoyed our appetizer and our hopefully soon to come soup. He said there was no such place and he couldn't. We got the manager and the manager (who could care less that we had this bad service) didn't even listen to our complaint. He took the food back and said as he was walking away that they would just remake it. By this point we weren't interested in staying--we told him not to bother. The manager didn't apologize or offer for us to not pay for the appetizer (the only food we had the displeasure of consuming) Ugh.

The sushi was delicious, but I'm always scared of places that have so many different kinds of food on their menu AND top that with calling it fusion. I was right to be hesitant. To start off my simple cocktail (vodka soda) was weak and the lime was hard and dried out. My red snapper sushi was the best part of the meal, so I'd definitely say stick with the sushi here. Good quality, fast, and nicely presented. They did offer substitutions for the vegetarian at the table. I also ordered the fresh Vietnamese springs rolls, which I had to eat with a fork because they were so poorly constructed. The flavors were dull and they were stingy with the dipping sauce...in that there was just a small amount of sauce on the plate. The pad thai was edible, but I don't like my pad thai with onions...and this plate was heavily loaded with onions, lots of overcooked shrimp and a smattering of red bell peppers. Also the noodles were spaghetti style, not the traditional flat rice noodles. The service was pretty good for the large party, only a couple of mistakes, probably due to the noise level, which was pretty loud. Separate checks were offered and details were noticed, so kudos to our guy.

  • Melissa W.

M Vista has the most wonderful flank steak dish and the green beans which accompany this dish are also delicious! This is always my choice as I am not a person who eats sushi. I would have made this a 4-star review except that it was always noisy and the service is quite slow every time that I have eaten here (at least seven or eight visits). If you want a nice meal, you cannot go wrong, but do not go here if you wish to carry on a conversation!

  • Simon T.

In recent years, the service has really plummeted, enough that this is no longer our go-to restaurant i'n the vista.

  • Karen M.

I went to M Vista with my husband for a special evening of dining. The atmosphere in the beginning was wonderful as was the decor and wait staff. The food was okay, but what ruined the evening and hense the reason for the one star rating is due to the fact that the owner ruined the atmosphere by yelling and verbally abusing one of her wait staff for all to hear! First of all, she should have taken her aside to talk to her, and secondly NO ONE should be verbally abused by ANY ONE! Needless to say, my husband and I will never return to M Vista again because of how the owner treats her employees.

I've been going to Michelle Wang's restaurants since Miyo's was a simple place on Main Street with plastic tables and chairs. M Vista is the culmination of years of improvement, work, and smart decisions. The menu is lengthy without having too many choices. Lots of teas and beverages for your pleasure. Our table had an assortment of entrees and appetizers that ran the gamut. Quick service. Pleasant surroundings. The fresh, healthy dishes pleased everyone. Flavors were prominent and the presentation was simple/elegant. Wholly recommended for a great change of pace.

Very average food. We tried a variety of entrees and sushi. Meh. It's convenient so that will perhaps bring me back.

Great Asian Fusion Food! The restaurant is very nice. The decor is modern and stylish, feels like you could be in LA or New York... Kudos to Cola! A nice causal, relaxed place to be! The menu is very extensive- about 30 pages or so...if you love food with an Asian flare, you have to give this place a try! Very extensive sushi and sashimi selections. Soups, salads, cold appetizers, warm appetizers, meat and fish, and a large selection of vegan dishes. The list goes on and on...The only draw back to the extensive menu is the lack of time to read through the thing before the server asks you what you would like~ My wife said she felt a bit rushed... The food is fresh and delicious! We started with an order of sushi- very fresh with a nice presentation. The main course consisted of pan seared duck breast, served with a hoisin red wine sauce, spinach, sauteed in a light garlic sauce, and an order of brown rice. We ended our meal with a black berry Cabernet sorbet that was smooth, cool, and oh so good! Overall it's a very nice place, the experience was very enjoyable!

  • Ryan D.

The restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere with a modern ambiance. The scenery is very unique and the restaurant is located in the cooler historic part of town. The place has a descent sized bar and free parking in the rear which is rare for downtown Columbia. The hot tea selection is solid and they serve it in a very cool traditional Asian tea pot. The sushi was OK. Not great, but it was good enough to go back on future trips to Columbia. We had the Spider, Firecracker, and a couple other rolls and we were pretty happy with the presentation. Overall it's descent sushi with a great atmosphere in a very old eclectic part of town. Worth the trip.

  • Swetha G.

The atmosphere is really nice and the service is good. I'm not giving this place a better rating because I'm still a little annoyed about my appetizer. I wanted to get their veggie spring rolls but wasn't in the mood for fried anything so our waitress suggested that I have their vietnamese summer roll instead, which is wrapped in rice paper and is healthier. I told her I was vegetarian and can't eat shrimp. She said they could make it vegetarian so I went ahead and ordered it. When it was brought to our table, I was basically served a plate of lettuce rolls. There was absolutely nothing inside of each summer roll except for lettuce, and that's it! The peanut sauce that it was served with was tasty, but I was still surprised that they did not bother to throw in some other vegetables in lieu of the shrimp. Yet I was still charged $6 for this appetizer which to me felt like a total ripoff. On the other hand, my entree, sesame tofu w/brown rice, was plentiful and very flavorful, so this did make up for my irritation with the starter, the food was good and they were generous with portion size. Nonetheless at the end of the night when I got my bill, I still found it hard to swallow paying what I paid for a bunch of lettuce rolls, it just was not worth it. Suggestion to Management: When protein is taken out of a meal to make it vegetarian, either ensure that there are good vegetable substitutes so that you're actually serving something of substance, or if that's not doable, reduce the price. I paid the same amount someone would have paid to have shrimp (which obviously made the app more filling), but instead all I got was a weak lettuce appetizer and a fat bill, so yeah, if you can't tell, I was a bit disappointed.

Really tasty pan-Asian food. Lunch prices are jaw-droppingly cheap for the quality of the food. Dinner tends to be on the high side, but the atmosphere makes it a good place to hang out too. The Singapore noodles is among the better versions of this dish that I've had anywhere in the States. Definitely a good addition to dining in the Vista. Normally I'm apprehensive of a menu that attempts so many different dishes, but everything I ordered in a half-dozen visits was well-executed.

  • Pumpkin P.

M Vista has an extensive menu. I am always wary of places like that, as they usually don't do any one thing well. The sushi is decent. Not the best ever, but good. I had an apple & shrimp salad that really surprised me. The apple added a nice crunch, which balanced the texture of the shrimp nicely. They had so much to choose from, I'd like to go back & give the udon noodles a whirl.

I travel frequently for business and have to admit don't expect much from restaurants. M Vista MORE than delivered. The food was TERRIFIC, fresh and delicious. I have been twice and had different sushi both time but very much enjoyed it as well as the ambience. The decor is wonderful and the wait staff was terrific, very personable and information. I have to say it is definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Columbia. It is not an inexpensive restaurant so as long as you are prepared, you will be fine.

I have to add a star and a half because I eat here all the damn time! Mostly, because there aren't many choices for my diet. After my first visit and initial review, I have learned how to order and appreciate the fact that it is one of the few places to get various vegan dishes in Columbia. My faves are the Ginger Tofu and the Thai Basil w/ Tofu. The Ginger is good as is, but I always kick the Thai Basil up to extra hot to get it the way I like. I always sit at the bar because the bartenders are the best servers in the place.....and the 60" screen streaming 'sports that matter' on the wall at the bar doesn't hurt either.
