Amazing! I treated my mom to lunch here and wow! I am so happy I found this place. I haven't been to this place for dinner (yet!) but for lunch it was A+. Firstly, I went to the service door (by accident) oops, but the waiter was really kind and just led us to the front to be seated. Don't make the same mistake I did ;) I was a bit worried since there was only one other table there for the lunch hour (and I had made a reservation), but I took the chance to really look at the decor and get a feel for the place. I really liked it. I saw they had a wine room, which is nice, though I didn't get to go in and sneak a peek. My mom had a glass of wine, I had an unsweet tea. The server also gives us the bread with herb infused dipping oil. It was good. For lunch, there were so many tantalizing options, it was hard to choose! But - we ended up ordering the same thing because it sounded so delish (like mom like daughter I guess). It was a steak with mashed potatoes, asparagus, and a (I think) spicy berry sauce. My mother gets her steak well-done. I get mine medium. Our steaks came out perfect. They didn't overcook mine, it was perfectly pink in the middle, not too red and not too brown, and perfectly seared. They didn't undercook my mother's either - it was deader than dead. ;) She loved it. What a wonderful luncheon meal! The flavor was wonderful, not too mild, and not so strong, but a great harmony of seasoning with food. My mom and I raved and ate at the same time. My mom - who is very sensitive to spicy food - was not bothered by the sauce one bit. I guess the berry really mellowed it out, it was very delicious. I was really trying to take my time eating it - i didn't want the flavors to end. It was pure perfection. I was thinking about it after we left the restaurant and I went to work. Yum yum yum! I cannot wait to go back.

My bf and went for the first time last Saturday night. I easily booked our reservation online through yelp. Short and sweet... we ordered the crab cake and fried oyster apps... hands down BEST we've ever had... anywhere... ever!!! Perfectly cooked, and so fresh! If my rating were based solely on the apps... 5 stars easy!!! For entrees we ordered the shrimp risotto (wasn't impressed, I was hoping for more of a creamy white based sauce, but it was brown and more gravy like... I hate gravy) and the pan roasted duck (again, nothing to write home about). Note: from the time we finished our apps to the time our entrees were brought it... we waited almost 40mins... never once did our server stop by to say "sorry for the wait" or "your dishes will be up shortly" - I know she has no control over the kitchen... but it would have been nice to be kept in the loop. Our server was very polite and friendly, but my bf's water cup was on E for at leassssst 30 mins while we dined... other servers kept walking by our table with the water pitcher refilling their patrons' glasses... she didn't notice his was empty until she was coming to ask if we wanted dessert pretty much. Apps - 5 stars Service and Entrees - 3 stars So... We'd def go back for like apps only!

Last minute dinner decision and I was NOT disappointed! Service was excellent, we were able to eat al fresco, the bar tender knows how to make a great cocktail and the food was absolutely delicious! My son devoured the short ribs, his friend hovered her roast chicken & tried fried okra for the first time leaving nothing on her plate. I thoroughly enjoyed the sesame encrusted seared ahi, thick slices of which were done to perfection. I will absolutely return as the atmosphere inside is cozy and simply delightful!

Updating my review as today was my second visit and had lunch instead of dinner which changed my life...no joke. It has been two years since I was last and there were so many unique and tasty looking options on the menu it almost made it hard to choose. I say almost because they had a Vietnamese pork sandwich listed, which to my fellow foodies is known as a banh mi...and I know of nowhere else in town to get one...not even Pho Viet! This had become my obsession...the one item I had been unable to find in Columbia which resulted in serious withdrawals and frequent trips to Viet places in Charleston to feed my addiction. Finding my love in this restaurant was so unexpected but so joyous. Don't know what I'll do having it a mere 5 minutes from my office now...binges may occur. The pork was a huge portion and dripping with flavor and semi spicy sauce mixed with fresh cucumbers and cilantro in a toasted baguette. It was everything I'd been hoping for. I'll be back in a few weeks to continue my love affair. If you can, reserve the wine room for your meal. It's intimate and very fun dining!

The service is excellent and the wine selection is impeccable. The wine list is extensive and if you are not a fine wine connoisseur it can be a bit intimidating, not to worry. Michelle, the owner, and her wait staff are always great with recommendations. The last time I went I ordered the braised short ribs which literally melted in my mouth. Always an excellent choice and a wonderful date spot.

Stopped in here for a weekday lunch while exploring Columbia, SC. The place was sort of difficult to find as it is below street level and the awnings are a bit ripped and faded. The inside though was really nice, lots of dark wood and a decent (if not small) bar right to the left of the entrance. We were seated in a quiet corner and waited on quickly. The food ordered was good I ordered the 3 seafood patties (Salmon cake, Crab Cake, and Crawfish cake) served with Hare covert and linguini. My dining companion ordered the hanger steak with cabernet chipotle glaze. The seafood cakes were good..the steak was excellent! Perfectly cooked. Although the restaurant is small the wine list was pretty nice. Our server was attentive but knew when to leave us alone which is always a positive in my book. I guess the only thing I really didn't like was the manager or owner seemed to be a real smart mouth talking down to his staff, but other than that I enjoyed my meal here.

Had dinner last night and the food was good, but service not so much (and when you are spending that kind of $$$ the service SHOULD BE GREAT). It started off on the wrong foot when we ordered a bottle of wine and the waiter brought a 1/2 bottle (weird) and before we could even question him about it when he presented it, he had already twisted off the top... Then he said that that was the only one that they had.... After disappearing (he was good at not being there) for several minutes he came back and said that they did have 1 more 1/2 bottle... We ordered appetizers and then dinner. The food was good, but all 4 in our party drank our waters dry not even any ice and then on a rare moment when the waiter did show back up to try and sell us desert, WE had to ask for more water... (even at the lowest price point restaurants, servers are attentive enough to refill empty glasses and usually before they are bone dry). I have eaten here several times and usually it has been fantastic, but when you get a RARE chance to go out to dinner without children and you spend over $150 on the meal (not including tip and the $40-50 for a babysitter so that you can go out) you should get great service.

I had a flawless experience. Everything was exquisite from the service to the food that I ordered. They accommodated my substitution without hesitation. I wasn't fond of the bread (didn't taste the freshest), but it is complimentary so I am not factoring this into the review. I recommend this restaurant for a special occasion due to the atmosphere and higher cost (although the quality and selection of the food justifies the price). It is appropriate for formal attire (although not required) too. I would return.

This experience was a huge disappointment. I went with a group of twelve (corporate party, reservations were made weeks ago). We were seated at two tables of six and had separate waiters, so nobody was over worked. The ambiance was nice. I have a soft spot for historic buildings. However, given that this restaurant presents itself as a high end venue, I have some serous "reservations," so to speak. They are a fine wine bar, I'm sure, but as for their food, I have words. The cheese plate was entirely made of cubed flavored cheeses which I could have bought at Food Lion. Sage Darby, cheap smoked gouda, and herbed cheddar (not that anybody bothered to actually tell us what they were, but I recognized them from pre cut cheese plates at office parties and the like). It was ample, but sad. The braised lamb was over cooked and the sauce mixed into the mashed potatoes and made soup. The lamb itself was cooked to a mush, like at Bob Evans where they make pot roast for old people with no teeth. My creme brulee was made hours (days?) ago, which is also when they burnt the sugar on top, so it was not only no longer crispy, but barely there. That's half the point of this dessert. The wait staff was friendly, but had no idea about flow. We always had extra unused glasses and dishes taking up space and had to ask for water and wine refills every time. We really shouldn't have had to ask for these sorts of things to be taken care of. Anyway, probably a great place for a young person to take a naive first date, but at it's heart, this was not the quality restaurant it clearly aspires to be. Tl/dr save your money if you want food. Cook at home, it will be better. If you're in it for the wine, go for it.

Delicious lunch spot if you work downtown, but also very good for dinner. It's on the pricier side for lunch if it's just an everyday affair, but if you are taking clients or associates out, this is a great place. The crab cake special is really good, as are the quesadilla special and all of their soups. The servers are very friendly, and the service is quick. Definitely check it out if you want a quality meal downtown.

I have been coming here a few times a week for many months. I have been on a long term contract in Columbia and always look forward to a glass of wine and dinner at HSV. The bartenders are great, personable and always have great wine recommendations. I've taken my customers here several times and they have always been impressed. The food is great, especially the flatiron steak! Always feel like I'm welcomed here and love to come back!

The Vineyard is a great choice if you are looking for an upscale restaurant in the heart of the Capitol. The atmosphere is cozy. Candlelit tables and polished hardwood indoors, and a comfortable patio setting with plant arrangements out. The noise level can be a bit higher than most upscale restaurants during dinner service, but is very much tolerable. The food service and staff were great and left little to be desired. The food was excellent. We started with an appetizer of duck liver mousse, which was "not bad," but just wasn't for us. However, for my entree I ordered the special of the night, a pan-seared monkfish. It was, by far, the best fish entree I have eaten in my life. I would order that everyday if I could. To conclude the night, we shared a Sherri and a Creme Brûlée for dessert, which paired excellently together. The only set back of the night was our bill. A little under $100 for two is just too pricey given the area and the alternatives nearby. Overall, The Vineyard is a great choice for those special occasions, just be sure to check the bank account before heading out the door. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

We had not been to Hampton in a while. Previous experiences were much better. We were seated at the first table in the middle of the room. We asked if we could switch to a table along a wall. The host said that the tables were reserved and it would not be possible. By the time we left, one of the two tables was still open. The wrong entree was brought to out table. It was 45 minutes before we got the entrees that we ordered. In that time, the waiter never brought bread to the table. My swordfish was cooked perfectly and it was delicious. However, the risotto was not cooked properly- still had a bit of crunch to it. This is surprising since it took so long to get our entrees. By the end of dinner we were ready to leave and we skipped dessert. I would consider going back since we have had many good experiences there. However, I agree with some of the other reviews here- the service needs to be improved.

My husband and I had a delicious and delightful dinner in this special spot. An elegant restaurant, but not at all stuffy. Sound level - convivial, but not overwhelming. And sophisticated food and wine. A few excellent takes on low country cuisine - the most succulent fried oysters ever - a wonderful black bean and andouille soup. Sea scallops beautifully prepared, and delicious duck with a Thai sauce. The service was delightful. We eat in many big cities, but we found this more personal, delicious, and satisfying than what we mostly find in those cities. It was a real treat, and we WILL be back. JFC

There were some hits and misses, but overall we enjoyed ourselves. Hits: Ambiance. We were sat in the wine room, intimate and cozy. And lots of wine. My wife's salmon dish. Very tasty, and a decent sized portion. The bread. Nice multigrain stuff, not stingy with it. The wine. No help from the staff (see below) the wines we chose were definitely good. Misses: Server not very helpful in choosing wines. Weird when "Vineyard" is part of your name. The cheese plate. Too expensive for Publix quality romano, cheddar and feta. Seriously, feta? My pork tenderloin. Overcooked with rice that was all mushy. The weird? Our server's voice was CRAZY loud. Jarringly loud.

I had the opportunity to enjoy and share the wonderful bill of fare with my family following my daughters graduation from the Univ of South Carolina. In addition to an award winning wine list - the menu and choices are out-of-this-world! We started with the flash fried oysters (yummy) and followed up with four wonderful entrees: Seared Honey Dijon Glazed Salmon; Seared Ahi Tuna set on dressed baby greens and a wasabi yuzu drizzle; Pan Seared Breast of Duck with a Moscato plum glaze and Brined and Grilled Pork Tenderloin set on grilled polenta. We shared all meals and I must say, all four were superb. Our waiter, Steve - originally from Philadelphia really made the dining experience one to remember. I will be recommending this establishment to any/all going to Columbia - and will be returning myself as soon as I can.

We were so excited to try this restaurant but left unimpressed. Our waitress was rude and made us feel unwelcome. We ordered the crab cake appetizer which was a soggy mess. It fell apart as soon as I tried to move it over on to my plate. I'm sure there was some crab in there but it tasted like hot mayonaise. We also order the filet and short ribs which were just ok. No flavor and very uninspiring. For the amount of money they charge, food should not be just ok, it should be amazing. Quality food and service are what truly matter and that was what lacking most with our experience. Cute decor but get rid of the outdated silk flowers.

enjoyed the decor and glad to see that the restaurant kept a moderate amount of noise. wine list is wonderfully extensive. lighting is bright enough without being obtrusive. private room available. contrary to what their website states, the servers definitely vary widely on their knowledge of the menu. salad starters strong and there was a good variety to choose from. flash-fried oysters were pretty amazing with a delicate batter. the oyster was still allowed to shine with plenty of juices with a great cajun remoulade pairing. yum. the fois gras was disappointing. inconsistent texture throughout. it was probably a grade b foie gras meant for a terrine or pate masquerading as a grade a. flavor went well with the apple-pear compote but the i thought the sweetness of the wheat chive pancake overrode the subtle flavor of the foie gras. pan-seared duck breast was on the dry side. jasmine rice was an enjoyable complement with the citrus glaze referencing asian cooking. the pan-roasted pheasant was better and paired well with sharply-accented collard greens. perhaps the duck would have been better roasted to preserve some of its moistness. i was hoping for redemption with dessert. they were out of the banana and coconut pudding when i went. a chocolate expresso mousse was substituted. the white and dark chocolate bread pudding was pretty flat and bland to me. it needed something to make it richer. i was not impressed at all.

I had the best meal I have ever had in Columbia at Hampton Street Vineyard last week. Cajun flash fried oyster appetizer with just enough zing to keep it interesting but still have a wonderful fresh oyster taste. Then Ahi Tuna- the most perfectly cooked-very pink on the inside-tender, flavorful tuna i have ever tasted. Served on a bed of asian slaw. I could not stop raving about it. It really melted in your mouth. Two others had the duck which they said was outstanding and another had the crab cake and loved it. Yum. Server was wonderful also.

Great restaurant, quiet and attractive inside, great menu, good food, and excellent service. Located in a great part of downtown Columbia. A must if you're in the area.

Dined alone and the staff seemed content to leave me alone with too many, "I'll be right back". Decided appetizer and salad was enough poor service for me. Food was great but service lacked "individual" attention.

Try the crab cakes. What a treat. Add Chimay Ale and you are done! A Columbia hidden treasure.

I had the pork belly & my dinner companion had the crab cakes, both dishes were superb. Full of flavor, and paired nicely with the sides. This place is known for it's wine. I'm not a wine expert, but the Rosé I had was nice. The server was a wine expert & bordered on wine snob. This was the only off putting part of the dining experience. The food is a little pricy, but I was in on business & it was expensed to work. I plan to go back once more during my time here.

The food was delicious and our sever was friendly and took very good care of us. I had the lamb shank and my husband had the short ribs. Both dishes were very flavorful and serving size was plentful. The waitstaff was unfortunately not trained in fine dining ediquette. I felt like I was eating at an Applebee's. The host was rude and arrogant.

Food was good, bit the friendly service was unbelievable. I felt like I walked into a neighborhood favorite. The owner knew everyone's name and their favorite drink was waiting on them. Save room for the chocolate bread pudding because it's amazing!

Recent lunch there was passable, but not as good as I remembered it being. Soup was only luke warm, salad had too much dressing. Chairs are way too small and not comfortable. But they have many good dishes and try hard to please. Nice atmosphere and location. Supper should be great there. It has a Cheers Bbar kind of feeling. Just wish they had more comfortable seating.

I have eaten here a few times. The apps and entrees have been decent, but not exceptional. My most recent visit may be my last. I ordered cream brulee for dessert. What was brought to the table was scorched cream and no brulee. That's right they didn't place sugar on the cream before they used the torch. It is possibly the most foul thing that I have ever tasted. When I informed the wait staff of the error, I received a simple "Oh", that is it, no sorry, no let me take that off your bill, no let me get you another one. The lack of service was surprising and has turned me off to the restaurant. If you go I hope you have a better experience, and avoid the cream brulee :-)

Great food. The food is always good. They would get 5 stars if they had more comfortable chairs. They have the be the worst chairs ever. We have decided not to go on occasion based on this reason alone.
