This place is awesome! It's true pit style BBQ. They have their smoker right in front of the store front! This is one of the only places in Columbia, probably the only one that serves traditional brisket. They also make their own pork skins which is delicious. Coming from Kansas City which is home to some of the best BBQ, I often come to cock pit BBQ for some KC like BBQ. The owners are awesome people who take pride in their food.

Still one of SC best all around BBQ joints in the state! If you haven't tried the brisket you are missing out. This place is right by a BP gas station right by the football stadium.

I needed some special care for some friends in a "putting the band back together" situation and these guys came through delivering, setting up, and being really nice people. Then the food was killer. BBQ, baked beans, slaw, rolls, tea. All: GREAT! I read the negative reviews and have to say ours was great! I will eat here again and recommend to others. Thx Brooks. Awesome service and food.

Best BBQ I have had since I have been in SC. One of the few BBQ places in SC that has brisket instead of the usual pork. Have plenty of sauces to choose from .. Can't go wrong with any of them. Line is usually pretty long around lunch time but still manage to get your order to you in 5-10 mins. Defiantly will recommend to anyone!

Man, do I want to give them 5 stars but I just can't. It was good, real good, but just not excellent. The barbecue place in a gas station in an "industrial" side of town has some really good barbecue. -The brisket tasted like I have always thought brisket should taste. First, it had a real beef taste signaling quality meat from the start. The rub was excellently proportioned not to spoil or overtake the delicious beef. -The pulled pork and the ribs also had the perfect amount of great tasting seasonings on it that didn't need any sauce. -The guys working were friendly and personable. I used a coupon and there wasn't even a peep of complaint - not even when it didn't seem to be working at first. -The food came out super fast, as barbecue is always pre-cooked. The mac and cheese bites were the only thing that needed cooking. Judging by the speed, they aren't frozen (though, I'm not suggesting they were made to order). Now for the things that kept me from a 5 star rating. -The price seemed a bit high. While the portions were adequate leaving me with leftovers for tomorrow, I don't think the value is there. My platter only had 2 ribs, while they were meaty, for sure. -The sauce on the counter is in self-service bottles. When I went to get some, I was told to put my finger on the opening at the top before I shook it. I used a napkin to wipe it off, but it doesn't seem very sanitary. I think an investment in different bottles that can close would be a good idea. -The sauce itself had too many things going on to make it memorable. I'm not a fan of vinegar based sauces, so that is probably a part of my annoyance. The 2 sauces I sampled didn't differ much in taste, as well. Thanks guys! Good food.

This is one of the best barbecue places I have been to in a while! I had the beef brisket plate which comes with a barbecue sandwich, fries, choice of side (I had the baked beans), and a sweet tea. All in all the food itself is amazing and reasonably priced. Speaking of reasonably priced, their drink prices are cheaper than 5 points prices! Dollar pints of natty all the time as well as $1.50 16 oz cans of other macrobrews. As well, they have conquest beer, a beer brewed in a relatively new brewery around the corner from the cockpit. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone, it is a must stop for game day given it's walking distance to Williams Brice.

Very, very good hole-in-the-wall bbq! Ribs are very smokey! The mac & cheese bites & pretzel beer cheese bites are top notch! Prices are very reasonable. I had it delivered via 256togo so I haven't been inside the place but the food was great! Will certainly be eating it again and I recommend you try it!

One of the best BBQ joints in SC! You have to try the beef brisket! I really like how they cook everything with true old fashioned hardwood. You can certainly taste the difference in this BBQ! Can't wait to go back and try their Hash!

This is a Sandwich only place where the BBQ is limited. The sauces are pretty good though. The sides are the size of cup of ketchup at most fast food restaurants. And all you get are two NOT changeable options (chips and coleslaw) as your sides. If either were really good it might not be so bad. $10 for a small sandwich and two sides that are small and not very flavorful to compliment the BBQ. The staff was nice and the food was quick. Overall not a great spot for BBQ.

THE place for great Bar-b-Que. Their Brisket is fantastic. They use a family Recipe from Texas. They offer a Brisket, egg and cheese biscuit on their breakfast menu. It is THE way to start the day. Have not had a bad meal there yet after a half dozen visits. Then ribs have been great both times we've had them.

I had an order delivered from a local delivery service. The sweet tea was spoiled giving it that rotten taste. The sides are ok, not to be confused with being good by a long shot. The BBQ is dry and absolutely terrible. There is no sauce added, just this watery vinegar tasting stuff that it seems to be cooked in, or maybe that was the sauce. _____ Round 2** on a second delivery to give them a chance to correct it, hell no! Same dry, nasty BBQ. This time, the tea was good because it was fresh. All of it will fill you up at the expense of being nauseated in the end. With all these bad reviews, maybe making BBQ is not for you guys. **Update ... the nausea is now gone with the food, that was a wasted $23 bucks

This place has great burgers and chilli cheese fries, however i shall not return there. They are under contract with 256 togo and that delivery service released my info to street hoodlums!! I was nearly attacked in traffic and they called 256togo threatening to write bad reviews if they did not give them my info!! This company gave it to them!! The attacker then sent me a facebook request and shortly afterwards, our home was broken into and our pomeranian killed!! 256 togo knew we were away from home for 3 nights because we ordered yesterdays to our hospital room!! This service cannot be trusted!!! They are called columbia carryout, aka 256 togo!! Stay safe and pick up your own orders. Please do not become a victim as i have!!!

When you drive up to this place, you'll first notice that it's attached to a gas station. And not an old-fashioned mom-and-pop country store. It's a BP. And this, despite your hopes to the contrary, is an accurate sign of the quality of the food here. The Sauce: It's very, very thin (vinegar style), and it's neither sweet, nor smoky, nor anything you usually think of as bar-b-que sauce. It's boring and confusing. It may have Old Bay seasoning in it? The Meat: Not terrible, but only because it has no flavor. The Rest: Almost nothing seems to be made in house. The fries are the frozen crinkle cut ones you get in giant bags at Sam's Club. The wings are the same, and the wing sauces obviously aren't made in the restaurant -- which is actually a good thing, since the bbq sauce seems like it is, and it's awful. The Service: Your food will come out immediately, because everything has been waiting for you under a heat lamp for hours, with the exception of the macaroni and cheese, which will come to you cold. Bottom Line: this is lazily made food, served to you at an unreasonably high price as an insult. I suspect the good reviews for this place are written by the owners, who would do better by spending their time learning to cook.

I am a bit too busy as of late to write Yelp reviews on a regular basis, but some places are so bad that I will happily spare a few minutes of my time to avoid others making the same mistake I made, in this case throw money at lousy BBQ. Let me start with the easy part, the positive: None! Alright, now I have that out of the way let me focus on the negative: - The meat was not terrible, but not good either. Unfortunately, none of the BBQ sauces on offer did anything to enhance the experience, because they were watery and lacked flavor. (Yes, all of them were watery and lacked flavor.) - None of the sides seemed to be made in-house and even if they were, they had been sitting under a heat lamp for most of the day. So even if they had any qualities to begin with, which I doubt, they were gone now. - The sweet tea was an abomination unto the god of sweet tea, if such a deity would exist. - The price was not right. - The service was mediocre. (The food came out very fast, but so fast that it was immediately clear that no work whatsoever had gone into preparing the food.) In conclusion, buy gas at the gas station that is attached to Cock Pit Barbeque and then use it to drive to a place that is not a waste of money and an offense to your tastebuds!

Driving through, Mrs. P and I had pork ribs, pulled pork, hush puppies, and beans. This was our first time eating NC-styled bbq, and it wasn't what either of us anticipated. The ribs were heavily rubbed with a paprika-chili based powder. They were moderately smoky but reminded both of us of a more Latin flavor than what we expected from Southern que. The pulled pork was very light on the smoke and benefited from the sauces provided to us. The sides were outstanding. Overall, the vinegar flavor was great but the smoke flavor was too mild. The Cock Pit is on the 100-mile bbq list in SC, so I know others like it quite a bit. I wonder if this place benefits from a great location (across from the stadium and just off the highway) as much as anything else. I'd recommend trying, but only after sampling other options.

Good BBQ and Brisket, but way too expensive. $15 a pound for brisket is just too much. I paid $10 for a brisket sandwich meal, and just didn't find it a good value with so many other options in town and the meat had too much of a soy sauce flavor. Give them credit for smoking the right way though.
