I will give these guys another chance because I REALLY want to see places with healthier options make it in this town. I have to agree with other reviewers who say they still have some kinks to work out. We went on a Sunday afternoon, hardly anyone around. My husband ordered a wrap and the hummus/pita appetizer. They tell us they're all out of pitas (someone had run down to Publix to get more!) They must've had a hefty lunch crowd wipe them out? He chose soup instead, the Tom Yum. That was NOT authentic Tom Yum. It was tasty, and we'll admit it was "thai-inspired" but it was NOT Tom Yum. I ordered the rosemary chicken salad wrap and the woman ringing me up asked me what kind of meat I wanted. It's "chicken salad" - pretty sure that was one of the only wraps that didn't offer you a choice. It was ok, but I expected the dominant flavor to be rosemary, or chicken, but there was another dominant flavor altogether. Maybe it was the yogurt? (a nice alternative to mayo) I'll go back because I really WANT this to be better.

Started going here a month ago. The food is very good. I get the vegan portabella wrap with southwest sauce. Service is good and knowledgeable staff.

Updating my review bcuz I've been back 2 more times... annnnnnnnd my order has alwayssssssss been right (I check it before I leave)!!!! No unwanted meat surprises or missing ingredients!!!! Which shouldn't be too much to ask for!! :) I will say that the past 2 times, I've still ordered online, but it's only been on Sundays around 6pm... so I don't know if there's new staff, or the day and time play a role. I'm a happy customer now and am obsessed with the Green Goddess sauce!!!

WHEN they get your order right its great.. however that isn't the norm. I order online and get the same thing every time. Each time it's a crap shoot when I go pick it up if its right or not! Ordered extra chicken - one time got regular amount but charged for extra, one time got NO chicken and was charged the extra amount!! Order always says NO roasted tomatoes - 80% of the time they are on there anyway. Their sauce on the Southwest wrap is SO GOOD, and they actually have really good guacamole!

I'm updating my review knocking down a star. While the sandwiches are still awesome and I love the fact that they're in Columbia, their vegan muffins/mini loaves are ALWAYS old/stale, over baked, dry at 7:30 am when you want one (and yes, I've been there on 3 different occasions and tried a different kind each time). Sometimes they just don't even have any at all. Being that this would be a main staple for breakfast food offerings, I would think they would make it a point to bake them fresh in the morning instead of who knows when they do. This is just bad production and QA. It would also benefit them to decrease the baking time at least by two minutes.

Fantastic lunch! I ordered a salad and my friends both ordered wraps. Everything was outstanding. My salad was packed with fresh spring greens, nuts, goat cheese, chicken... it was not skimpy in any way and honestly probably could have been 2 lunches. I tried my friends' wraps and they were delicious too. Very filling. The staff was helpful and courteous. I will definitely go back and we have a new place to order from for working lunches.

I'm really glad that Columbia is making inroads to the healthy food option and the Vista is an excellent place to have such an establishment. However, they have a few kinks that they still need to work out. Black Bean is located in the what usedto be the old Subway with a front facing Gervais St as well as a backdoor entrance with parking. Their staff (that interact with the customers) are obviously very new, but it is also a new eatery. The one slight annoyance I have is with the one girl who delivers the food to the table. They take your name when you order, so they can find you when your food is ready. However, this girl will wander around with your food until you wave her down. She should be calling out names but maybe she is shy. Perhaps a number system would work better for black bean. The other annoyance that I experience involved the lack of napkins and condiments on the table. Or the lack of condiments in general. They didn't have any salt and I'm that person that likes to put a little bit of salt on everything. I know salt is not really healthy but small quantities aren't bad and we should at least have the option. The couscous could have used just a dash. Overall, the restaurant was clean, enjoyable, and moderately quiet so youcan have a conversation. And the staff was very friendly. Now for food. The food was decent. I had the Almost Summer Energy Wrap with a side of couscous. The wrap was very flavorful with nice juicy chunks of chicken and delicious goat cheese. The couscous, on the other hand was a little bland. I really liked that it had cranberries and mandarin oranges mixed in, but it wasn't quite enough to fight the blandness. I'll choose to get another side the next time I go. It was a little pricy for what I got ($10 for a wrap, a small side, and a drink), but it seems the cost of living is going up and I can't get over it. Good experience worth a few kinks. If I was being completely honest, I would give a 3.5, but I'll cut them a break since they are the new kid. I'll be back to give another go and let you know if anything changes!

Love this place! I will drive 20 minutes out of my way to go. Always fresh and delicious! Can't get enough of their food. Plus they have a punch card and every 11th meal is free. It's so hard to find healthy options in Columbia so I'm happy there is this option. Oh, and parking is free around back. Also hard to find downtown.

Ordered the Cobb salad and my friend ordered a vegan mega veggie wrap and neither of us had any complaints. It was fresh and delicious.

Good, but not great. If you are out an about and need something quick, healthy, and inexpensive, Black Bean Company is a good alternative to fast food. I just found the food to be a bit boring and flavorless and the beverage and side options to be uninspiring. I tried one of the vegan wraps which was basically undressed lettuce with some hummus and tomatoes wrapped in a flour tortilla. It was just bland and boring, but to give credit where credit is due, I could tell the produce was fresh and high quality. I would recommend the restaurant try little things- like adding a balsamic vinaigrette dressing to the mix to give it some oomph and make it less dry. I went back to try their breakfast wraps, opting for a tofu scramble with southwest soy sausage. Same thing- boring and bland. The southwest "sausage" was not good at all. Then again, most imitation meats are not. My recommendation would be for the restaurant to focus on making the actual tofu taste more breakfasty. One way I've seen restaurants do this is to scramble them with mushrooms, tomato, and onion. It packs it full of flavor and gives it a good texture. A little added salt and pepper doesn't hurt either. The tofu in this wrap was just a couple heated up strips. Boring. I had an apple cinnamon muffin as a side. It was okay, but covered in a thick layer of cream cheese icing, so it was more of a cupcake than a muffin. I was expecting something "lighter" and not so sugary. I was also disappointed with the drink choices- soft drinks and bottled juices (apple and orange mango) with high sugar content in a cooler. I would have expected fresh and organic juices given the overall healthy/fresh theme of the restaurant. While it may be a pricey investment, the restaurant should consider getting a juicer and a smoothie machine. If that isn't feasible then maybe sell prepackaged fresh-squeezed juices. I also had to pump from three different coffee machines to fill up my cup- at 9:30 in the morning. Keeping the coffee filled is a must during breakfast hours. They weren't filled on my first trip either, but I went for dinner then so it was more understandable. I think Black Bean Co. is on the right track in terms of providing quick and low cost healthy fare, but has a lot of work to do to bring it to the next level as a business.

The food is outstanding here! Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the menu. We come here whenever we visit Columbia! The spring rolls are awesome! Everything is fresh and made to order.

First tried this place in Charleston, and was happy to find out they were opening a location in Columbia right near my office. They have a parking lot (gasp!), which makes having lunch here much nicer, compared to the metered parking in the rest of the Vista area. I've tried several of their wraps (Beach Burrito, Black and Bleu, Almost Summer) and they were all good. They leave you feeling satisfied, but not overly full like you might feel if you were having a Mexican burrito. The sides of fruit and pasta salad are good, as are the cookies. Right now they offer free delivery, so take advantage of that if you're in the vicinity. Great healthy addition to Gervais St!

I am reviewing this as a vegetarian. Thank you so much for expanding my vegetarian options in Columbia! Black Bean Co makes wraps but offers vegetarian and vegan options for most of their wraps. They actually have three flavors of tofu. Don't miss the breakfast options too. For $4 you can get a breakfast wrap with egg or scrambled tofu. Black Bean Co in Columbia is having some growing pains with their employees. Not getting the correct food has been a problem a couple times but they are always very helpful and willing to make the correction. Still wondering where all the black beans at Black Bean co are... Walking in the first time I honestly thought they would be specializing in black bean dishes or perhaps had a signature black bean side salad that came with everything. Reminds me of how Chipotle didn't offer anything flavored by chipotles for years. I'd love to see USC utilize their catering services.

Nice location, parking in back, varied menu. Prices are a touch too high, IMHO. Big surprise is for a"healthy" cafe, they serve deli turkey and chicken. I had the ginger wrap, very tasty. Came with small side item (fruit salad) and drink. Total bill was $12.00. I'll give it another shot, as the food was good and the staff very friendly.

I'm incredibly annoyed with this place. First the wraps are good. The yogurt is amazing. I love the healthy options, especially when I forget to pack lunch, or, like today, the weather is horrible and my plan to walk somewhere for lunch is foiled. But, this is getting ridiculous. They are always forgetting an ingredient. Last time I ordered a beach burrito - no guacamole. My friend also ordered the almost summer - it was missing goat cheese. I've ordered the baja style missing green goddess and on ward and so forth. But this really is the most annoying thing to happen. I've ordered the Strawberry Fields salad and added shrimp. I had it delivered and on the box it is written down "STR FIELDS". So, one might assume, that this salad would have strawberries. After all it is in the name. But no - not this time. Once again, there is a missing ingredient - except this time it's the dish's NAMESAKE. I wanted a Strawberry Fields salad, but all I've gotten is Fields with four little shrimp tossed in, and a sad amount of goat cheese crumbles. It's so frustrating! This place is toying with my emotions. On the one hand I am trying to have a healthier meal and I love that they deliver. The food is pretty alright - but I've never actually gotten the meal as intended. But with my no-strawberry fields salad, it's going to be a LONG while before I order from here again. The cooks really need to wake up.

I believe customer service is key when dining out. The manager seemed as though he was trying to rush me out of the establishment......he was so abrupt when asking if I wanted to dine in or out.......he didn't give me a chance to say my order before he asked......I thought give me a minute geez....... The food was very fresh. I had the vegan mushroom wrap. I will probably be back.....maybe

My husband and I came here because they had vegan options.... The menu looked pretty good, so we were pretty excited to eat here! We each ordered one of the vegan wraps, and ordered the cous cous (after the employee offered us a free sample). After we got our food, we soon realized that my husband's cous cous was actually rotten and had a terrible smell. Both of our wraps looked pretty good but tasted flavorless. I mean, I get it. It's a kind of healthy food restaurant, but healthy doesn't have to mean tasteless.. Nothing was seasoned properly, and the vegetables in my wrap were not cooked or seasoned. It tasted like they simply microwaved the zucchini and squash. To top it off, the further that I ate into my cous cous, I noticed that the bottom portion had also gone bad and was spoiled.... Next, we decided to try the vegan sweets that they had available, to possibly get the taste of the other food out of our mouths. :/ When we tried the vegan choc chip cookie, we were unimpressed, as it was stale. (It may have tasted alright if it weren't stale, though.) The vegan zucchini bread was also stale, very dry, and tasted like bananas. Overall, this was not a good restaurant at all. It was clean, but I would never eat here again. Also, if this is what people think all vegan food tastes like, then I could understand why so many people dislike the thought of eating it. It was gross.

I just ordered delivery from the one in Cola. Food was completely cold when it got here (chili and gyro) and they were pretty rude on the phone. Also, they forgot my vegan chocolate chip cookie (which was pretty much the main reason I decided to try the place). I will not be trying this place again.

First stop here and so far it's been a good experience. Like I other reviewers, I really appreciate the vegetarian options. My green beach burrito is good and it's really fresh. Adding this place to my lunch routine; welcome to the lineup;)

After a second visit ... I really want to like the place bc they are so nice and I like the idea of this restaurant. Aside from the sauce for the spring rolls (which were good this time but not stellar), the food is very bland. The tofu needs the most help, it is soft and there is hardly any discernible flavor to it. Searing the tofu and getting a nice crisp outside to it, with the addition of some kind of decent seasoning, would make it much better. Also the burrito strikes me as being a shell filled with lettuce with a few beans and pieces of tofu added as a garnish. I'll prolly give it one more try in a few months to see if anything is new on the menu.

I am new to black bean co so I read the reviews first. Ordered almost summer wrap which was awesome. My friend had the spring street and was very disappointed. Also they forgot to give her the sides she ordered. We shared the oatmeal, cranberry cookie with orange zest which was very good too. I will definitely come back again!

I was so excited when I found out this place was opening since I'm vegan, and there aren't many options that deliver to my work. I've eaten here a few times a week since they opened in June, and my experiences have varied from excellent to very disappointing. The very first time I ordered, the tofu was left off my wrap, and they charged all of my coworkers for extra meat by mistake. They had only been open a few days, so I gave them another shot. This time I placed my order online, and my order arrived correct (yay!). BUT, if you order online, the menu options are more limited. Coffee, for example, is not listed as a menu option, so if you want to be able to choose from the entire menu ,you have to call and order, which for some reason, just doesn't work out as well. Today, for example, I really wanted coffee, so I place my order by phone. For the first time since I've ordered from there 2-3 times a week for the past 2 months, I'm informed there is a $9 minimum. No biggie, I change my order to a wrap instead of a hummus plate. I'm asked if I want tofu added to my wrap, I say no. He takes my credit card and tells me my order will arrive in 45 minutes. I give it almost an hour and a half before I call to check on it. I have to call 3 times before someone answers the phone. He tells me if it was a delivery order "it must be with the driver on it's way." Okay...so finally almost 2 hours after placing my order it arrives. The driver tells me that the person who took my order never put it in the computer, so they did not charge me, and threw in a cinnamon roll. So, I'm thinking cool, I'm starving and eating my lunch at almost 3pm, but at least I didn't have to pay for it. I get it back to the break room, and it has the tofu added to it...Oh well, I'm too hungry to worry about it. Overall, I've enjoyed everything I've eaten from there, and I think I've had every vegan option on the menu at this point. I just really hope they can get some of the kinks worked out, and maybe start including all of the menu options for online ordering since I've had very bad luck with ordering by phone.

I was really excited for another "healty" option for food downtown, and that they are a localish company from Charlestion. That being said, the food is just not up to par for what they are charging. My co-worker that went with me also had to wait about 10 minutes for their food after mine was brought to the table. Fruit side was grapes and melon, no berries at all. Love the fact that they carry Cannonborough Soda, but don't like seeing the giant US Foods container of Quaker quick grits. Seriously, you are literally across the street from a local company that sells grits, Adluh, and you are using Quaker for your breakfast?!?! At the prices they charge for it, that's a shame.

First time eating here and I'm loving the Black and Blue wrap as well as the honey basil soda!!! The yogurt was just right!!! Will visit again!

Their heart is in the right place but the food just does not cut it! Pseudo health food at best....veggies did not taste fresh, and flavor combos were odd. Had the ginger palmetto wrap and it was just plain weird! Cold cuts are totally processed and too salty.

They're f-ing stupid and constantly out of stuff. I placed a to go order and they FORGOT the easiest order. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Seriously???!! It also took them like 7 minutes to even take my order. The only reason I'm giving one star is because they have one employee, who resembles the guy from All American Rejects, who is extremely nice and has great customer service skills.

Just had a delicious breakfast sitting with my dog at the lone outside table. Went with my favorite Southwest Breakfast wrap- scrambled eggs, cheeses, peppers, onions and a sweet- spicy sauce all wrapped up and served with a small side of fresh fruit cocktail. Paired this with the wake up special- small coffee (Dakota Roast) and a baked cinnamon apple bread...all very good and for under $7.

Oh my goodness. Color me obsessed, because this place is divine!! I came here today for an early dinner for the first time. Everyone had told me it was really good, but I didn't know from first hand experience. I came in and was greeted by a very nice employee who gave me a menu to look at and pointed out the most popular items. I ordered what he suggested, the Southwest wrap, and got a side of yogurt because my roommate raved about it. I waited maybe 5 minutes and I was the only customer there, which isn't a long time, but I think in lunch rush you could wait a while. I also became victim to the "Restaurant kitchen" smell, which has permeated my hair and my cardigan. No worries. My food came in a cute little cardboard box, and off I went! First I ate the yogurt. Ohhhhh my god. I'm not even kidding, that is the best yogurt I've ever had. It's got little specks of vanilla bean in it and it's really thick, and sooooo tasty. I took one spoonful and was in love. My wrap was also really tasty. The chipotle sauce had the perfect amount of kick to it. I will totally be back for more. Goodbye, bank account.

First time checking this place out, right away I can tell I'm going to love it because they have a local soda on tap and they ask for your name for your order to make it super personal! I ordered the baja style wrap and wow! These wraps are not lacking in size or flavor! I was impressed by the quantity and quality of food since I assumed fresh and natural meant small and tasteless. But... You do pay for the fresh and naturalness of this place which is why I gave it only 4 stars. I paid $12 for a wrap and 4oz container of yogurt. Not terrible but not cheap enough to be an everyday lunch spot.

This is a go to for lunch when I need something delivered. I love that they use local wholesome ingredients in their food. You can taste the attention they put in their food when they prepare it. I haven't had a wrap that I don't like, whether it be for breakfast or lunch. The breakfast wraps are a great price but the portions are small.

I love coming here! It's walking distance from where I live so it's a favorite. The southwest wrap is the best!! Also the chicken, rice, and cheese is on spot... Even if it is for kids... :)

Went here to get a smoothie. When I asked what size a 16oz was she pulled up a decent size cup but served me something way smaller then what she said. Well obviously she doesn't know what she is talking about which got me confused. Then when I ordered my mango madness, her co-worker seemed irritated with her as well when he asked her what did we order and gave her an attitude right in front of me and another guest. I was really surprised when they gave me my smoothie as well because it was pre-made and sitting in a refridgerator right behind the cashier, but when she gave it to me it wasn't cold at all! It just made no sense to me on why it was so warm when it was sitting in a refrigerator all morning? Honestly I would not come back here because of the bad vibes I see from the employees who seems like they hate their job along with being misdirected on sizes. If these employees don't seem like they like their job who knows what they would do with their service on food and such..
