I met some friends for a quick lunch. The food: I had the Low Fat Chicken Critter. It was DELICIOUS! I love the soft/fresh seeded bun and the herb slaw. It was about the size of a fast food sandwich....so, not too big, but just enough for me! It was served with pretzels, which were ok. A little pricey ($7.79) for what you get. The service: Nothing too special, because we didn't have high needs. But, overall just enough to do the job well! The atmosphere: It was pretty empty when we were in (1pm - 2pm).

If one views the Groucho's Deli website, at least right now, that person will see the phrase, "Fast, Fresh & Original." We stopped here for a quick lunch while visiting Charleston for a few days. Trying to stay light in anticipation for a splurge anniversary dinner, we chose salads from the menu. Our server was very friendly, and she was quick to help us. When I asked if the chicken & tuna salads were gluten free, I was told, "They should be." Not wanting to show up to our anniversary meal doubled over with abdominal cramps, I asked if she would find out, and she did. She reported back that the chicken salad contained gluten, but the tuna didn't, which left me with the one choice. Tuna salad it is. Stephen J. isn't a high-maintenance diner like me, so he easily chose his grilled chicken salad and beer. Our meals were brought to the table quickly, and our server checked in, so aside from needing to know whether menu items contain potential allergens, I don't have any significant recommendations for the service. "Fast" box checked. The salads themselves were fairly large and their contents appeared fresh. No brown leaves, bright red tomatoes, crunchy cucumbers. "Fresh" box checked. So, why the three-star review? Well, first off, I suppose I'm picky. Maybe that could be worth a star to some folks. That acknowledged, I can't really bring myself to check Groucho's off for "Original," at least based on the menu items we ordered. The tuna salad was placed in a small cup. The menu says "four ounces" worth. OK. Not having a scale available to me, I guess I'll believe that amount was served. But why place the tuna salad in a cup anyway? Perhaps I sensed the cup to be smaller than it was, dwarfed in size compared to the amount of lettuce in the bowl. And in writing, "lettuce," I more specifically mean iceberg lettuce. There were a few darker greens I fished out, but not very many of them. The few cucumber and tomato slices were fine. The salad dressing, a raspberry vinaigrette was served on the side - thanks - but was sweeter than most vinaigrettes I've eaten. Stephen's grilled chicken salad contained the same ample serving of (iceberg) lettuce, and he commented that the chicken - which tasted OK and was cooked very well - had a marinade that tasted like a cross between Thousand Island & Russian dressings. No bread was served with the meal, but we did receive packaged crackers. Yes, packaged crackers. I'm sorry, I just can't check the "Original" box.

STP all the way! Phenomenal sandwiches, delicious house sauce, but lack of sides disappointing! Low quality chips they do have shaved ice and all their subs are a great hangover cure! They have the option to get a kid size meal too, for adults! I will continue to be a regular

Super bland food, seemed to be only one waitress on and took a while to get our food. Pricey for the product. Can't recommend.

Helping hangovers since 1941. The t-shirt doesn't lie. As important as hydration and sweat, Groucho's sandwiches are often a key ingredient in my hangover stew. Disguised as a Mom & Pop local shop on King. Groucho's has turned into somewhat of a sandwich empire with locations popping up all over the south. As far as being local goes, they are homegrown in Columbia, SC and have expanded their deliciosity over the years. For this I will give them a pass on selling out to the man. I can't really blame them for wanting to spread that Formula 45 sauce all over the southeast. I have been to 4 or 5 locations and each one still feels local and unique. However they accomplish that, it's working. Hangover or not, I'm addicted to these sandwiches. I think my all time favorite is the STP Dipper. That fluffy sub roll is stuffed with roast beef and turkey, then topped with crunchy bacon morsels, sliced cheese, and steamed hot to infuse the mix of flavor into a little football of meat, cheese, and bread. Any of the "dippers" come with a dipping sauce of your choice and... if you put your hand up on your hip, then I dip, you dip, we dip (I love The 90's). My choice dip for my dipper is the coveted Formula 45 house recipe. Easily their most popular dip and available for sale to get your dipping on at home. On the side you get a pickle spear and a bag of chips which will also be getting sauced up in the consumption process. The sub is probably 7 inches or so and if you're really hungry, which a hungover me often is, you can opt for the double meat option. One would think, there's no way you could fit any more meat into that sub and... one would be right. They actually give you a second sandwich for only a few bucks more. Could be an economic sharing option too, if you don't mind sharing your pickle (calm down 8th graders)... and your chips. I prefer keeping both sandwiches, and my pickle, to myself.

Grouchos was seriously underwhelming. The venue is adorable and I love that it's not a major chain and has been in business since the 40s. That ends what I love. I ordered the low fat white moose which sounded good on paper but was seriously underwhelming. I wasn't a fan of the bread and there was a lot of it - and really not a fan of whatever sauce was on the sammy. The highlight of my meal was the horseradish heavy mustard - think wasabi level of burn. And I loved it.

Growing up in Columbia, I'll been a fan of Groucho's for a few decades. Non natives may be put off by dipping their sandwich in a cup of mayonaise-based goodness but it's life changing. Always fast and friendly service. SWEET TEA, lots of lemons. Big dipper with muenster.

We really enjoyed this place. Looked for something reasonably priced in town for lunch and stopped in. We had the Big Dipper and Med East Special. Both were simple but really good. Great bread and all ingredients tasted fresh. And their Formula 45 is amazing. A great place for a quick meal.

Stopped in here after doing some shopping on King with the missus. Found the food to be pretty good, I had the roast beef dipper slathered in provolone and steamed to perfection. I will say if you are from NY City this is not your typical "deli" sandwich that has 8 inches of meat piled on and costs $13.

The giant sign in the front advertising a pitcher of beer for $5 is what brought me into Groucho's. Sure I was hungry and a sandwich sounded good but the beer is what really sold me. The beer was just as refreshing as I imagined it being. Sadly, the sandwich was not as satisfying. I got the special of the day which was turkey, ham, and roast beef with swiss cheese. I really did not enjoy my sandwich. It was very dry and plain. I did dip it in the sauce it comes with (which was really good) but that didn't help much. The cold cuts also skeeved me out a bit. They reminded me of the cold cuts you would find at Subway. After only eating about a quarter of the sandwich I gave up. I did enjoy dipping the chips in the sauce.

Stopped in for a quick bite to tide us over while shopping on King Street. I was hoping since it was a Charleston tradition, it would be more fulfilling, but that wasn't the case. Our sandwiches were on the small side, and not the best. I can't remember what my boyfriend got, but I was excited to order a BLT. The bacon was stringy and chewy - extremely off-putting. Cute restaurant, so maybe if I lived in the area I'd give it another shot. As it was, we walked down the street and kicked ourselves when we realized we could have gone to Five Guys.

Another place I'm surprised I haven't reviewed yet. Good sandwiches, had the Mid East Special last night. It was da bomb... har har. Yeah, that was bad. Anywho, pretty consistent food and service as well. Average prices will run you around $6-$6.50 for a sandwich, chips, pickle spear, and a drink. Parking can be a hassle, because it's down town near the corner of Calhoun and King. Worth a stop if your near and want a good sandwich though.

The sandwiches are shit without the glorious sauce they serve. Luckily, they serve that sauce with nearly every sandwich on the menu, so it's one of the best delis in Charleston!

This was fair ... I wasn't that impressed especially for the price .... Rather go to Harris Teeter for a sandwich ...!!! So many more options on King Street !!!
