Diabetics at Whataburger

However, you can always satisfy your cravings for a burger by choosing Whataburger Jr. or other non-burger items from the menu.

Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Well, you can always try the Lighter & Smaller options from the menu to cut down your fat intake. Opting for grilled sandwich or burgers are preferred compared to double meat or triple meat cheesy burgers which contain high cholesterol.

What can I say great food and awesome service. First the experience. Walk into well maintained restaurant with a great atmosphere, great staff presence, and the management making sure your experience is top notch. The helped me propose to my wife and we came back on our first anniversary. Let's just say this will be a yearly tradition .... What else can you ask for.... Oh yeah the food. The food is bottom line great. Steaks cooked to perfection. Something you can expect from a top notched steakhouse. Appetizers are a great way to get you started. I recommend the deviled eggs. Sounds crazy but Wow! Delicious.

This was our first time dining at Burwell's. We were a bit early in the night so it wasn't too busy. It was an easy walk from our hotel too (we stayed at Vendue). We had the rock candy stone app, very cool and fun way to start the night. We also ordered one of our fav wines from Orin Swift, Locations I (Italiana). The deviled eggs with bacon & truffle oil was delicious. Best I have ever tried. We also tried the cornbread in the hot skillet -- very unique way to provide a common southern dish. We split the filet and it was very well prepared. Met our expectations, didn't exceed them so we rated a 4. Would def return!

I want to go back again. I am currently in Charleston and I always make it a mission to eat a great steak at each city. I will talk about the restaurant and the food. The interior is modern and sleek. Our waiter went above and beyond to provide great service. I am usually a picky customer, but he did everything in his power to make sure that my team and I were satisfied. He gave great wine choices and recommended what steaks to eat based on our palettes. We were able to be seated outside and they had enough shade to make sure that we could still see each other. It has a great environment and a wonderful staff. Steaks..they are just to die for. The 45 day aged New York steak was delicious. I bought the mac and cheese, but it was a little too salty because they added pepperoni. Regardless it was still delicious. The wine selection was a great pairing with the steak AND it had the correct amount of texture. The steak was cooked, seasoned, and flavored perfectly. I definitely want to come back!

They have some new things on the happy hour menu! The heirloom tomato and asparagus with egg are both really great new additions!

Randomly met Joe-Joe out at another restaurant. He told us about the happy hour specials. Sold me on checking the place out. It's a great place. Friendly staff. Fantastic food. Worth stopping by. I'll be going back when I visit Charleston, SC again.

Absolutely fantastic. We ate at the bar and took the advice of the bar tender Joe-Joe. We had the filet tips appetizer to start. Cook your own on a hot stone and the surf and turf. The steaks were delicious and perfectly prepared. The atmosphere was great

Fantastic night! Thanks Ken and staff! We had the "intimate table for two" on the second floor. This table overlooks the bar and the downstairs lounge area and sits off by itself making it more private than most spots. (It's not in a room by itself, just away from everyone a bit.) The 45-day aged NY Strip is one of the best strips I've had to date. Fantastic. Jess L. had the Filet and it was even better. With a side each, these cuts of meat left us stuffed. Very much worth the price for the flavor and amount! Complimentary sparkling wine/champaign was served for the occasion, and several of the staff came by to ask how everything was and/or congratulate us. I topped things off with an Old Fashioned from the guys at the patio. An absolutely great experience all-around. I would recommend this for anyone needing a special night out.

Burwell's was my second stop on a happy hour tour, and it was great considering I was able to have a cocktail and a burger for $10. I wish I could remember my bartender's name, but she was nice enough to make me a non-happy hour drink she wanted to practice making for the happy hour price. It was called "South By Southwest" and was a pretty damn good cocktail. The burger was huge, and I was so hungry I didn't get a chance to take a picture. I am waiting for when I can go back here for happy hour to have another burger, so that's a good sign! The rooftop deck was closed for a private party when I was there, so I want to go back for that as well. Also, note to management: get wifi immediately. Don't be the only bar on the block without it. You're better than that.

My latest venture here, with family over the holiday, was spot-on. Everything from the service, atmosphere, beverages, straight down to the meat, was really good. And of course, being a steakhouse of sorts, you want the meat to shine. And it did. I had the filet and enjoyed it immensely. And the leftovers were almost as good as the meal in-house. When we walked in, we were greeted and sat by the manager. He was incredibly welcoming and really kicked off our night on a solid note. The service was on point... not a moment of looking around like "where is____?". Burwell's also has a nice little rooftop for those not looking for a huge meal, but perhaps a few appetizers and cocktails. The restaurant is located a building away from the end of Market Street right near the cruise terminals... so the views aren't too shabby. And all in all, the atmosphere up there is really nice, though small (we'll say cozy). All in all, I'll certainly go back for a nice meal or will be stopping in once it gets warm again for a little rooftop relaxation. I recommend you do as well!

First dinner at Charleston!!!!! Of course, craving for steak every time, so we decided to come to this place. We ordered the stone fired grill beef which was absolutely unique, the reasons why I was holding back from 5 stars to 4 was because the stone beef appetizer was a bit salty, over all the quality of the beef was absolutely good! The must order appetizer would be the divided egg, omg, hard to describe but it was the best one we ever had for sure!!!! We also ordered the wood fired filet mignon, medium rare, I would say, that's also the best filet I ever had compares to the Angus Barn... It was the best of the best!!! I often send back the beef steak because it was never perfect cooked for me, but I didn't send the beef back this time !!! Finally!!! Well, side dishes I ordered mash photo instead, it was good but once again little bit too salty, Now, time for my dessert !!!!! Must try item hahaa!!!! Gives the perfect ending of the night:)

We were on vacation and looking to enjoy a nice meal. Our reservations were at 8:30 and we were not seated until 9:24. The bartenders at the bar where we were able to order drinks were incredibly rude. After being seated, we did not receive our main dish until 10:30 pm. If I had wanted to have dinner at 10:30 I would have made reservations at 10:30. 2 hours later is incredibly unacceptable. I would suggest eating literally anywhere but here in Charleston.

This is very long overdue... We first came here January 13, 2015 and again had dinner there about a couple weeks later. Planned a surprise dinner for my Fiancè who just got back from sea. Everything was absolutely perfect! The main reason why our time was so special...Alan (Not sure if that's the right spelling) and Ken. Such great people, great service. Alan went above and beyond what a normal server does. It was a surprise, so he made sure if I needed anything to be discreet, I would just make eye contact and talk to him where my fiancé couldn't see. Literally my fiancé had no idea about any surprises along the way because of how great Alan was. I got him a special birthday desert, suggested by Alan, and it was perfect, and kept a secret until it arrived at the end of our dinner. I already knew the food, the steaks specifically, were going to be phenomenal, as was the deviled eggs for the appetizer but truly, what made our time special was, again, the outstanding service. Best server we've ever had. Ken: Thank you again for that extra gift last time we were there.. I don't know if I already thanked you but just in case!

Another successful trip down the hatch! We came in (for New Years, nonetheless) and our experience was spot on...again! My filet was so tender that I'm pretty sure it literally disintegrated the minute I put it in my mouth! The Flight of Flavor was also fantastic! The dipping sauces were great...we even saved them from the appetizer and used them with our entrees. The hot stone at the table is a really cool experience! And for the crazies complaining that the waitress asks you to cut into the meat while she's at the table....it's NOT tacky, it's a QUALITY check, and I for one definitely appreciate it! The manager came over to make sure our experience was a good one, and it was. I think the service staff and the ever-present managers show a business that is putting in the effort. The amazing people behind the bar should be applauded as well! Incredibly nice people who happen to be talented drink slingers! I never know what to order, as I'm not a big drinker...so I tell them what I DON'T want and they whip up something awesome!

Ate here for the first time a few days ago. The food was ok but I didn't finish my plate. The dessert was delicious but many in our party were disappointed that the cheesecake was actually more a chocolate mousse on graham cracker crust, and some people were not fans of chocolate. The serving staff was nice but the girl at the bar was rather rude. Overall, the atmosphere was enjoyable and cozy while still maintaining an upscale feel and with all the great reviews I have seen I would recommend trying them out despite my experience. Also I want to add my first review was a little less courteous than this one but I was contacted personally by the owner who apologized and gave explanation for some of our dinner problems. I am very impressed with the level of customer service that shows and I will be giving them another shot thanks to his reply. Hopefully then I can leave a 5-star review!

We had deviled egg appetizer really good then NY strip and Wager Steak. Both delish and then desert was creme brûlée and their famous s'mores. Delish. It is costly so plan for that but tasty

Went here on my last night in Charleston. The most convenient thing was their parking lot next to the restaurant. After 5pm it is free to park while dining. There happy hour specials included some things that I wanted to try...score! I had the filet tips. Filet served with a salted hot stone and you cook the steak yourself on it. Came with 3 dipping sauces...my fave was the yellow one. Then ordered the deviled eggs..the bison bacon and cherry drizzle were a good addition for flavor. The best part was the relaxed feeling on the rooftop bar...sipping on a glass of wine enjoying the 70 degree weather. So glad that I saved this place for last! I wish they had something like this where I'm from!

Burwell's was the starting point of our mixology tour, and what a great start it was. We were introduced to the Hibiscus Rose martini. I didn't get all the ingredients, but heard cointreau, vodka, hibiscus tea and topped with champagne. It was so light and refreshing. You've got to try one of these! After the tour, we returned to Burwell's for dinner and another Hibiscus Rose. Our group of four enjoyed their signature burger, lobster flatbread and cheese plate. Wait staff was friendly and engaging.

A good steak house. Had a fun appetizer where you cook your own steak on a 700 degree lava rock. The meal was good, while not inventive. They made a good negroni and the bartender advised me where to find a great spirits store (Bottles).

  • Jordan D.

Burwell's has the best happy hour specials in town. You can get a cocktail and a gourmet burger for $10. The burger is one of the best I've ever had and the drinks can't be beat. The value is ridiculous considering the quality of the food and drinks. Pro-tip: Go straight to the back patio and order your food and drinks there. You have a great view of the water and the bartenders on the patio are the same ones from the Speakeasy (RIP). They are true mixologists and can create the perfect drink time after time.

After 24 years of cooking professionally, I am not easily impressed. This especially holds true for all these new trendy, hip, hot-right-now, uber chic, over-priced, over-rated, too impresed with themselves, "steak houses". The hubs and I were in to Burwell's on what looked like a very busy mid-week night last week. We had a reservation, and we were greeted and seated promptly. We looked over the menu and everything started out great. Then our waitress arrived to take out cocktail order. I said "well, I'm not sure what I'm drinikng yet (we'd already ordered a bottle of San Pellegrino), what are this evening's specials?" She got this very snotty look-down-her-nose at us face: seriously she actually tilted her head back and LOOKED DOWN HER NOSE AT ME! She says "When you make your cocktail selection, THEN I will tell you the specials," and quickly sachéd off without another word. This set the tone for the meal. We ordered a bottle of wine (which I guess was barely good enough to warrant us being graced with the evening's selections), and the waitress rambled off the specials, sounding very impressed with herself; as if they were shat out of the platinum lined asshole of God himself. Not hearing anything worth ordering from the god-given-glory that was the evening's specials, we went back to the menus. Nothing in the entrée selections impressed me enough to wanna shell out $30-50 for a plate, which by the way comes with all side items à la carte. Yup that's right, you are going to pay a king's ransome for that 6 ouce fillet, and STILL just get a sad, lonely "steak on a plate" . If you want a veggie with that, be prepared to bend over, assume the position, and shell out another $6-8 per side. I've been a chef long enough to know exactly what things cost. Potatoes and grean beens are seriously not worth that! We ordered soups, salads, and a couple of apps, which ended up being quite enough. I found the she-crab soup to be one of the worst I've ever had in SC. There was no flavor to it at all, nor any detectable crab or crab roe. The iceberg salad was ok, but the blue cheese parfait chunks were strange: They were the flavor and texture of blue cheese JELLO. The appetizers were good, and the portions were decent, so we did enjoy those. But the bill for a bottle of wine and a few "starters" was $130 before tip. Sadly this is average for most of the high-end steakhouses downtown. I personally don't feel that Burwell's is worth the expense. There is an old Japanese saying: "Every man should climb Mt. Fuji once, but only a fool would climb it twice." I won't be back.

The stone grilled steak tips are exquisite... Wine selection is very well prepared... And the cocktails are a notch above the norm.. I highly recommend Burwells. Newer kid on the Charleston block, but absolutely excellent.

Service was awesome!! Pork belly appetizers was great, I loved the fact that it was not over cooked and crispy like you get in other places. The bone in rib eye was very juicy. Will definitely be making this a go to when I'm hungry for some red meat. Met one of the owners, very personable. Waitress Cathy was great as well, she suggested a beer to my SO, Blue Point Lager, which he loved!!

This was an OpenTable recommendation. Excellent! Service was very good but unpretentious. Starters were unique and just the right bite to share. I had the chefs soup of the day which had a different (peculiar) description and was NOT disappointed. The aged (45 days) NY strip was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Stags Leap Cab was a perfect compliment. Shared sides were wonderful - Mac and cheese with mushrooms & pepperoni, soft cooked cornbread with pepper jelly etc. I'd come back!

Great Steaks. Service is Spot on. You will love the atmosphere. The Lava Hot Rock thing is super cool and great eating as an appetizer. What you may not like.... I loved the one gorgonzola steak sauce so much that came with the Lava Hot Rocks so I ordered it on my steak as a side sauce. They ran out and so I waited, and waited for the sauce while my steak got cold and then when they finally brought the sauce it was completely different than the one I had enjoyed earlier... apparently, they had thrown something together hurredly that was supposed to be something like the real thing but it wasn't even close. It's like that ol saying one "aw Shi____ wipes out all the atta boys". I know I could have just eaten the steak and gotten over it - but yeah I'm stubborn like that. If you order a 22 oz bone in rib eye for $50 and you want it with a certain sauce - then they ought to deliver it the way you ordered it. This is the reason we're willing to pay $50 right? I ding'd em for 1 star... Try the place - you'll love it. Not everything will always go as planned.

My 3 rd visit and as always- perfect! Great HH specials and cocktails - the HOT STONE app and crab cake are not to be missed! Burger lovers won't be disappointed... Restaurant week choices-amazing.( scallops or Salmon over risotto w/ balsamic -yum. We had one of each. ) Lamb was fork tender and nicely portioned. Off the menu- a home run. Pork belly was the best we ever had. Beautiful inside, rooftop bar and lounge seating, great service, and prices reflect quality and craftsmanship from the kitchen and bar! Enjoy.

Absolutely one of the best fine dining restaurants in Charleston! The enchanting ambiance, the amazing service, and delicious food made our experience one of a kind. My girlfriend mentioned to the wait staff that her scallops were too salty, (I disagreed) yet both our meals were on the house and we were even offered another dish; in addition to that, we were given a complimentary dessert that was to die for. I can't say enough about not only the food, but also incomparable service that surpassed all expectations I've ever had. I highly recommend this restaurant for any and all occasions!

Ran into a friend on the street and stopped into Burwells for a cocktail. I hadn't been yet and was looking forward to seeing the place. I now have a new desire to go eat there but for now we can dish on the drinks. It was early so there was just a few people at the bar which gave us the benefit of the bar keeps full attention. At first I was distracted by the fancy iPad menu but quickly turned to the bartender press her for the details. I let her know I was on this spicy cocktail kick and wondered what she had on the menu. She immediately recommended the Spicy Citrus Margarita. I was weary about this choice concerned that it would be some fruity margarita drink. She assured me otherwise and gave me a guarantee that if it wasn't what I was looking for she would make me something else. The bartender guarantee is always a good sign that something good is coming your way. She didn't disappoint! This drink was not fruity and had the perfect amount of heat coming from the jalapeno slices. This one got me all worked up on the spicy cocktails that for my next drink, the peppered cucumber, the bartender offered to get crazy and add jalapeno to that. To which I said, hell to the yeah! Bam! Another spicy mouthsplosion in cocktail form. This one didn't quite meet the standards of the margarita but I had it altered from it's original state as well. My cocktail experience alone has me hankering for more divine drinks but I think when I get back to Burwells I'm gonna need a steak on the side.

The atmosphere of this restaurant was absolutely high end Charleston. We were greeted promptly and taken to our table. If you can request a table upstairs, do it! Our server, Lindsay was absolutely charming. Knowlegable about the menu and gave perfect suggestions. Ask for the Wagnyu Steak and the Chocolate cake. LIFE CHANGING. I'm a foodie, this was a perfect meal. The manager came over to check on us. It was truly a wonderful experience. Recommended for date night, famly night, or if you just want one of the best meals in Charleston!

Great restaurant! We made reservations for Saturday night and were promptly escorted upstairs and seated at the cutest little table that overlooks the bar. Our server was extremely knowledgable about the menu and wine selections and our steaks were cooked perfectly (which my fiance and I are serious about lol). We appreciate great service and food and Burwell's is exactly that. Next time we're in Charleston we will be stopping by.

Amazing place. Great location. Have been here twice and the bone in ribeye is amazing. Fire grilled to perfection. Asked if they would do something unusual for my dinner guest and nothing but Smiles and yes from them. Staff is on the ball, owner dropped by the table and is very nice. Has a great place. After dinner had a drink at the roof bar. Perfect atmosphere, great fit for charleston.

I had the New England Sea Scallops with their cocktail Spring Fever, and both were delicious. The scallops were flavored fantastically, and the vegetables of the plate were a great mix. The Spring Fever was fantastic, not too sweet but still girly enough for me. The waiter was very attentive, and quite nice but not overbearing. He did a good job of checking in when I needed him but letting me enjoy the dinner the rest. I was in town for one night on work, so Googled for something interesting downtown. I came here after looking at Fleet Landing, where there was no space at the bar and the wait for one would be an hour and a half, on a Tuesday at 6 PM! I walked up to Burwell's and was immediately seated - by the time I left around 7:30 the restaurant was fairly full.

Great place for a date night if your looking for a high end steakhouse. Last time I got the steak which was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. This time I thought I would switch it up and got the special which was skate over a bed of butternut squash risotto. It was great and the filet my wife got was also just as good as remembered. Staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and our waitress had everything memorized to the detail. Owners are very polite and made sure to check on you and ensure you are satisfied. If you are looking for a great meal and don't mind spending a few extra this is a great restaurant.

My 2nd time visiting and Burwell's exceeded my expectations AGAIN!! I had the Wagu Hanger Steak, mashed potatoes and the lemon poppy seed creme brulee!!! I checked in on Yelp and got a free glass of house wine too! Caroline and Mocha (yes Mocha) and the rest of the staff were amazing! Thank You!!!

I was drawn to Burwell's when I heard about the rock candy- tender steak that cooks on a 700 degree stone at the table. These little morsels were absolutely delicious. The she crab soup had a good flavor and the texture was silky, unlike any other I have experienced. The asparagus and egg were perfect. These starters made for a good introduction. We ordered the 16 ounce bone in ribeye and fries to share. It arrived and looked delicious however it was quickly apparent that we had a bad cut. There were two bones in the end making it look thicker but the actual meat tapered out to 3/4 inch. This cut should only have one rib. It also had a 1 inch stripe of fat running through the middle and a perimeter of gristle. There was about 4ounces of edible meat left. When our server came to take the plates I told her the steak was a pretty bad cut. The owner came out, asked if we had enough to eat, told us he had sold 30 of those steaks tonight without complaints. I felt bad for complaining. I showed him a picture of the two bones in the steak and he apologized and said he would comp the steak. It was a nice gesture but maybe if we had just paid for it our server would have asked us if there was anything else we wanted. Such as a dessert menu. It was a birthday dinner and I hoped to end the meal with some cake or creme brûlée. Our server circled the comped steak and literary tossed the check on the table and acted disgruntled. At that point we felt a little unwelcome, so we went up the street for cake and cocktails.

LOVE this place! The restaurant is really nice also has a cool roof top bar. The wait staff is very knowledgeable and always accommodating. The Chef has set a clear standard for only using the best food and gets as local as possible. We are always so pleased with the food and experience. I usually book our reservations with open table and the next day I always receive a phone call from Burwell's making sure we had a great experience, how awesome is that?! Five Stars all around!

Went 5/16/15 thru Open Table based on their average rating of 4.5. Lived up to the rating! Should advertise more. Food, service, ambience, and price gives great value. RF

I had the burger which was fantastic. Food-wise it was a real treat. Oh and the upstairs lofted patio is a sexy touch. But the thing I want to gush about is they have THE best mixologist working at the bar upstairs. His name is John Calo and he's going places. Not only did he make killer cocktails but he was a really nice, totally unpretentious and taught me and my wife how to replicate his concoctions, which by the way ain't easy. Super friendly dude! Also they have a $5 cocktail happy hour (5-7) which rules. Easily our favorite night of our honeymoon. Thanks John.

Attended a group dinner on a Saturday evening. With a pre-planned limited menu, the first course arrived at the one hour mark, followed by the main course at two hours and dessert at three hours. Coffee arrived after dessert was eaten. The fish was so dry I was able to eat less than half of it. The wait staff appeared to be doing their best, but we were told the executive chef and the pastry chef were on vacation. Since the event was planned well in advance, it seems management dropped the ball. Would definitely try other places before going back here.

We came down to Kiawah Island to play golf and spend a day at the Masters in Augusta. We came to Burwell's on the recommendation of one of our foursome. Everyone raved about their meal, the decor and most important, our waitress, Meredith who knew every detail of the extensive menu and was quick to recommend her favorites which all hit the mark. I had the surf and turf, a melt in your mouth filet mignon and a succulent lobster tail with asparagus and rutabaga , parsnips and Yukon gold potatoes after a crab cake appetizer. Everything was tasty. The others had filet mignon ("excellent") a seafood special with a clams, lobster and snapper with the deviled eggs appetizer. For dessert we had s'mores, homemade ice cream, strawberry cake and ice cream sandwich. The s'mores were "scrumptious." This is a great place. You can watch Detroit sports on the bar TV.

Thanks Yelpers for helping me find this place. It was perfect for my friend who wanted a steakhouse and my love of the farm-to-table places. We checked into the hotel and found our way over to the bar just in time for happy hour. The cocktail specials were spot on and the charcuterie plate was perfect. I wasn't totally sold on the lava rock appetizer, it was fine, but not great and certainly not as good as everything else. We were able to split the waygu hanger steak - which was just the right amount - which came with a root vegetable mash and brussels sprouts. Simple and just right. What else? Good service, good music, and cozy on a rainy night.

Burwell's is one of my new fave restaurants. The atmosphere is somewhat upscale but laidback. They have a nice bar with lots of options on their ipad drink menu. There is also a nice outdoor upstairs bar. The owners and staff are super friendly. The food is awesome! For an appetizer I recommend the rock candy or pork belly. The rock candy consists of strips of raw steak accompanied by a very hot stone. You just throw it on the rock to cook. The presentation is fun. The sauce that comes with is awesome. I love pork belly and theirs is really good. They change the presentation of the pork belly from time to time but it is always delish. For entree I recommend the filet. My favorite side is the asparagus and fried egg . Interesting pairing that is very good! Will be back:)

We enjoyed our anniversary dinner here and both had a great meal. The special citrus smoked salmon salad was phenomenal. The rock candy steak app we cooked at our table on a hot stone. It was a lot of fun and delicious. My wife had the wood fire filet with the asparagus and fried egg side. Both were excellent. My bone in ribeye with the whipped rutabagas as my side were both awesome. Their wine selection is also very good. Service was excellent as well.

My review mirrors that of Ms. Colleen J, but I would like to add one tip: DO NOT USE THE ROYAL PARKING VALET unless you would like for you car to be dinged up and damaged. Maybe it was just my luck or the valet was having a bad day, but we literally watched him move my vehicle around the small lot next to Burwell's approx. 15-20 times (we had a table upstairs next to the window) and ding my doors over and over again. Talk about an unpleasant experience! The responsibility for this rests more on the Royal Parking company than Burwell's, but I am still stuck with a damaged vehicle and have been left out to dry despite making my best attempts to resolve this. What an expensive dinner.

Went to Burwell's for a Friday night rehearsal dinner. Considering the size of our group, the service was attentive and friendly. The quality of the food was delicious -- the salad, soup, and main entrees were all hits with the group. The filet was a standout -- perfectly cooked and tender. While I can't speak to the price point of Burwell's the food, atmosphere, and location were all great. I would certainly return next time I am in Charleston for a great steak!

First went to the bar thinking we would eat there but the bartender was kind of inattentive so I asked the hostess if any seats available and we got lucky and got 2 seats at the Chef's table! Our waitress was great and it was good seeing everything as it got cooked. I ordered the Wagyu Hanger Steak with brussell sprouts and rutabega and parsnip mash! Outstanding. The beef melted in my mouth and the sides paired perfectly with it. My wife ordered the She Crab Soup and had an appetizer on one of the searing stones. I think she must have gotten filled up on the soup as it was very rich and delicious with nice chunks of crab. She was a little underwhelmed by meat but I ate anything she left which I loved. Beautiful place and other than the downstairs bartender we could not have been handled better.

Burwells seemed to be just as interested in being a "scene" as being a restaurant. Here's a tip. Don't be Halls Chophouse. You've got an opportunity to give the "steakhouses" in Charleston a run for their money. Step up your game. Otherwise, the locals, who have all the choices in the world, wont come back. What we had, and what we thought: Deviled Eggs - Really great, although the plating of this dish leaves you scratching your head. A+ Caesar Salad- Lettuce was limp and looked as if it had been run through a paper shredder. C Filet - Relatively nondescript, although the be fair, my wife ordered it Med-Well, so not much they could have done with it. The House Steak sauce was good. B NY Strip, Oscar - A big let down. The steak was under seasoned and bland. It had no grill/char flavor at all, and tasted like warmed meat. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't good, which is disappointing. The biggest disappointment was the "Oscar Style." Atop my 40 dollar steak lay a spread of tasteless and cheap shredded backfin crab meat. Really, shredded crab meat? Why do you even have that in the kitchen? Again, step up your game and buy some jumbo lump. C- Mac and Cheese - nice depth of flavor, but suffered from the same lack of seasoning as most things. The different noodles they used were a fresh touch on a classic dish. B+ Brussel Spouts - pretty gross. Why in the world a restaurant with a wood fired oven/grill wouldn't roast their brussel sprouts is beyond me. Instead they seemed to boiled. And again, you guessed it, were under-seasoned. D Service - Server Mickey was pretty rough. He offered no help or information as to what the menu featured, and was relatively devoid of personality. Plate clearing was an issue all night. That being said, he's obviously a college kid just trying to make some extra money, so we didn't hold it against him. C Dessert - The dessert menu was presented in the blink of an eye, on an IPAD! Really? Are you purposely trying not to sell me desert? If I sound picky, its because I am. I spent 150 bucks on dinner on a special night with my wife. This isn't Outback. You're price points come with expectations. Expectations that were grossly unsatisfied. Step up your game, or fall by the wayside like so many restaurants in Charleston.

Burwell's was definitely an interesting experience. The interior and prices lead you to believe you are getting a 5 star experience, but in my opinion they fall short in a few categories. The inside is beautifully done, modern, and the piano music is just plain classy. I loved it. The cocktail creations were fresh. Perfect for summer weather in Charleston. Now, on to the dinner. In short, the food was lacking for the price. The deviled eggs were good and the cooking stones were fun for the table. On the flip side the scallops of the scallop and pork belly appetizer were a bit under cooked, pork belly forgetful, and the burger was a kind of mushy. While the flavor was there, it was a little weird that the burger didn't have more of a presence. Yes. I just said my burger should have presence and I stand by that statement. This is not meat loaf. This is a burger. The sides, duo of brussels, edamame and truffle mac were good. I approved. The servers seemed a bit overwhelmed as our evening progressed and we were checked on less and less. Also, as the restaurant became more crowded, the meat steam (from the cooking stones) filling the air from tables nearby became a little overwhelming. Don't plan on leaving dinner without smelling somewhat... beefy. Yum. There was nothing bad about our experience, but for those prices, the interior, and the location, I expected better. I would return for drinks, an appetizer, and piano music at the bar, but I would definitely pass on dinner. It appears well run, which is important, just in need of a few tweaks.

I wish I could give this place a better review. They're trying; the wait staff were running circles, the host was sweating the seating, the menu seems like it's trying too hard to be many things at once. During restaurant week, I ate here with 4 other people, we had a reservation for 845p and were seated at 935p. I wish they'd told us to just leave. We were comped a round of drinks for the delay; while that was a generous gesture the evening was off to a bad start. The wait staff were clearly doing the best they could while slammed with more diners than the place could handle. We ordered from the restaurant week menu and waited for food to come. I ordered a salad which was arugula/walnut/pear - quite good, second best to my dessert. As we were all falling asleep table-side, food was served. Delirious and sleepy, we all poked at our plates. I had a steak that was cut up for me on a bed of puréed sweet potato and dish rag tasting parsnips. It was so late I had no actual desire to eat my food. Between salad and entree, we received an Asian soup spoon with a single scoop of berry sorbet accompanied by another spoon to eat it with. The spoons were placed right on the tablecloth-free table, I'm assuming they were going for palate cleanser a la tasting menu Italian style, lovely touch with the Asian soup spoon. In the end, we got our desserts to go, I've never seen an artful to go dessert but here it was! in a brown paper box! One star for my cocktail and one shared between my salad and dessert. Overall, at 1130p we were grateful to pay, cut our losses and leave. My dessert, eaten on the street walking back to my car, was the best part of the meal.

We chose Burwell's to celebrate a very special birthday dinner for my Mom, after reading many good reviews on Yelp. Burwell's has a great location, close to the Market downtown - very convient to everything. We had a very large party including lots of young children. When I called to make the reservation, I asked to be seated at one big table and I was very happy that they could accomodate me. They were also kind enough to let us come early to put some special decorations on the table, to make the night even more memorable for my Mom. The entire experience at Burwell's was perfect from start to finish. I am a very picky diner with high expectations and am used to fine dining in bigger cities, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Our server was absolutely wonderful and was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. I wish I could remember his name, but he was a black guy from Mississippi. He was so friendly and never treated us any differently because we had young kids with us, as many fine dining restaurants do. He made our night even better because of his extreme positive attitude! The food was incredible! I ordered the NY Strip on the recommendation of our waiter. It was the best steak I have ever had in my life. It was perfectly crusty and charred to perfection on the outside, with the perfect balance of seasoning and cooked exactly as ordered on the inside. Everyone at our talbe raved about their dishes. With many foodies in the family, we all agreed that some of our favorite things were the steaks, the parmensan fries, the mozzerella mac n' cheese and the steak burger! To our family, this was a very important dinner because we rarely are able to get everyone together in the same city for a family reunion and to go out for a fine dining experience. Honestly, it might happen once every 10 years. Burwell's was everything we could hope for in a dinner and I couldn't recommend them more! To top off a great night, with no prompting at all, the manager John called to follow up with me and left me a voice mail to ensure we had a great night the following business day. What excellent service! Thanks everyone at Burwells.

The service was good and the drinks were tasty. The food left a little to be desired. The deviled eggs were not special. My scallops were slightly undercooked and had too much of an orange marmalade flavor. The meat flights with the cooking stone were fun! The burger texture was a little off for me- a little mushy. But I had a great time and overall a fun experience!

Very positive experience. The place was crowded, but arranged in a way it didn't feel cramped. Also, the atmosphere was pleasant, you felt it was contemporary, and you could still have a conversation. all of the food was excellent. NY Strip was tender, as was dinner companions steaks!

As frequent Halls Chophouse goers, we were a little skeptical at first to try a new steakhouse, but we are so glad we did! Our server Jeff took fantastic care of us, and everything that he recommended was impeccable! Make sure you get the Rock Candy appetizer for a table side searing experience with deckle. The flavor and tenderness of my filet was perfect, and the sides are large enough to share. You'd be crazy to pass on dessert!

After a long and exhausting hour pounding the pavement looking for somewhere interesting to go for dinner (everywhere else had shrimp and grits, a fish dish, chicken and duck) we remembered we had walked past Burwells and saw a soft-shell crab special on the board. There was also a free glass of wine for a yelp check-in special. We had the she crab soup, very creamy, not at all fishy, with the right amount of sherry. Then, we split the soft-shell crab special, a deconstructed BLT with the crab fried in semolina. It was both creative and delicious. We decided we weren't done, so we tried one of the rock specials, a 700 degree rock with deckle (second cut of brisket) and a port wine gorgonzola sauce on the side. The deckle cooked quickly and was very tender, it didn't need the sauce, which was a tad bitter. We followed up with the garden dessert, an espresso cream log with candied violets. Tasty, and pretty. Overall a great dinner with great service. The manager even came over to see how the crab special was as it has been put on the menu the day before.

At first we were seated downstairs , but the noise level was very loud, so we requested to be seated upstairs. We had a very nice table for 2. We had a great waitress who was very attentive. The food was great We had the Caesar salad to start and we both ordered the steak , I had the mashed potatoes side dish Andy my husband had the young beet salad. Both very delicious . Only gave 4 stars because everything is a la carte. But well worth the trip!

I made reservations at Burwell's based on a local's suggestion for my husbands birthday last Saturday. I had no problem making a 8pm reservation on for Saturday night the day before. Hidden Gem! Based on a previous Yelp review, I also requested an "intimate table for two" on the second floor. We sat at a table overlooks the bar and the downstairs lounge area and sits off by itself making it more private than most spots. They brought my husband a complimentary Happy Birthday dessert. Food, drinks and service were top notch. We will be back. GET THE DEVILED EGGS!

I finally got to experience the new kid on the food scene block of Charleston. They really stand up to their claim of being a modern steakhouse with a flare for raising the bar on an American staple. The chef does a great job of incorporating farm fresh ingredients which can add to the experience of trying combinations you would not normally get at other restaurants. My wife ordered the Flight of Flavor, which is really a started but was just enough for her and allowed us to split two sides and dessert. The flight is strips of beef filet served with three dipping sauces arranged around a six or seven hundred degree stone that you then sear the beef on yourself. She loved it. They have two starter versions and a larger main course version as well. I ordered the Deckle special. Deckle is the grillable top part of the rib-eye and is packed with flavor. It was cooked perfectly. It was served over a bed of risotto with a tomato ragu and sauteed mushroom, onion and asparagus salad. They have done a great job with the building both inside and out and you would never know it used to be two separate buildings. The dinning room is open but still gives that air of privacy and they offer areas for large groups as well as cozy nooks for two. The bar area is fun and open they offer up some amazing and unique cocktails but the main attraction is the bar top. Through out the building they incorporated recycled building materials but the bar top and the bar high tops are constructed out of old rail car flooring. To go with the bar is a enclosed see through wine cellar hand crafted to match the reclaimed wood from other parts of the room.

Classy atmosphere, fantastic bar with top notch liquors and mixologists, dinner was delicious... sirloin steak, vegetables & a chopped salad to start it all off with. I wish I would have listened to the so-so reviews. The atmosphere at Burwell's was nice--upscale, yet casual. The service was okay; they refilled our sparkling water but never poured us additional wine from the bottle we ordered. Not a big deal to have to pour our own wine, but a little disappointing. Furthermore, at one point I went to the restroom and a tray of food was sitting in the hallway upstairs just waiting to be delivered. It was still waiting there when I returned, which probably explains why our food was cold. The food was simply okay. My filet mignon was gray and cold (even though it was cooked medium), which made me question the quality of the meat. I ended up eating a few bites of the $35 filet mignon and leaving the rest behind. My husband had the wagyu hanger steak, which he said was very tender, yet not well seasoned at all. Disappointing!

Recently dubbed "The Next Great Steakhouse" by CNN we decided to venture into Burwell's, one of the newest additions to the Charleston restaurant scene. Located on Market Street in the former 'Gilligan's" the renovations were more than extensive. The restaurant is beautiful. It's somewhat contemporary, but warm with low, subtle lighting in an open-aired space. The only remnants of the old space are the lovely, exposed wood beams that grace the first floor of this two-floor establishment. Our server was helpful as we worked our way through the menu. It's not extensive featuring about 20+ items listed under "starters", "Farm and Field" and "Sea & Shore". What's really interesting is their unique claim to fame "Create your plate" where steaks are cooked on a 1400 degree wood fire or at the table on a 700 degree searing stone. Curious about the "stone", we started with a Flight of Flavor - stone seared petite filet tips with a trio of tasting sauces. Two steak lovers raved about the flavors of both the filet and the sauces. It was also fun to have the stone at the table and be able to cook your own filets. As the menu says, "It's all about the sauces", each of the three sauces were a terrific compliment to the meat. A big win with this dish! We also started with Fire and Ice - baby bibb lettuce, warm wild boar vinaigrette, cool avocado-blue cheese dressing and a duo of vegetables. What a spectacular ensemble of flavors. With such a great start and terrific service to boot, we thought we were in for a larger-than-life-sized win. Keeping to the more the meat the merrier theme the guys both ordered steaks. The House Rib eye Filet, also listed as the "Heart of the Rib eye", at $31.90 was accompanied by roasted cauliflower and parsnip puree, grilled and melted brussel sprouts and house whiskey peppercorn sauce. The side dishes were delightful but the steak was woefully under cooked and had to be sent back. The Bone-in Rib eye also dubbed "The Cowgirl" was incredibly over cooked, but our friend ate it any way. For a "steak place" you'd figure they'd get that part of the meal correct. Not being a meat eater I ordered the special which was Shrimp with Spatzel. Four small shrimp graced the plate atop of a not-so-great mound of spatzel. This was truly not what I expected. Our friend ordered the Wild Caught Grilled Salmon which was served with apple and faro salad, melted leek sauté and bourbon maple glaze. Our friend mentioned that it was okay, but not great. Once my husband's steak returned to the table after being cooked to temperature the activity began. The owner came by an apologized saying that "this is what we do" (steaks), and could not have been nicer. We were then served a beautiful complimentary dessert platter, which was a very nice touch. The owner again came by to apologize and see if we were enjoying the desserts. We know of a few folks that have come to Burwell's and have had a spectacular time. Sometimes things at any restaurant don't go as planned, as was the case at our table, but we certainly will give Burwell's a second try.

Burwell's is one of my favorite places in Charleston. It's a little off the beaten path and not swarmed by tourists which probably adds to it's appeal. The valet parking doesn't hurt either. The food has been excellent every time I have visited and their wine list is fantastic as well. The bartenders are always friendly and helpful - I recommend sitting at the bar for great conversation and food.

It's good, but it is not great, and it's certainly not worth the accolades we read about prior to making reservations. We arrived a bit early and were seated immediately as the restaurant was not crowded on this weeknight. We ordered a bottle of wine from the menu, but after a few minutes our server returned to tell us they were out of that brand, and she tried to up sell something else. We settled on something by the glass. My wife ordered the filet and I went with the "signature" New York strip. She ordered hers medium, but it was delivered medium rare, so she sent it back. Mine was cooked to the proper doneness, but it was delivered barely warm...apparently waiting too long to be tabled. Both steaks were tender and had good taste...but not spectacular. The house steak sauce wasn't anything special, and neither was the hollandaise. Again, not bad...just not great. We very much enjoyed the rutabaga and parsnip mash, but nothing on the menu mentioned that they would ruin the asparagus and fried egg by adding a red onion "slaw." There are so many great and innovative restaurants in Charleston, but I wouldn't put this one on that list. They cook good steaks over an open fire grill. That's not terribly innovative, and it's not all that great.

The food was exquisite but the prices were rather steep. Went there two days after Christmas with a party of 4. Everything is ala carte so the bill adds up fast. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the sides were also delicious. The beer is cold but also overpriced. We had one appetizer, 4 sides, and 4 entrees. Walked out paying $336 which includes a 20% tip. You decide whether it's worth it. I'll probably not do so again just because of the costs.

This was hands down the best meal we had in Charleston. We made a reservation on a Saturday night for 14 at 9pm, and arrived just on time. We had to wait about 25 minutes for our table, so were getting antsy. But we waited at the bar and got a few cocktails, which were delicious - try the strawberry mojito or the berry champagne drink. We were taken up to our table on the second floor, which was in a room close to other tables. We were loud, but as the other guests left, the managers closed off the door to our half of the floor, which made it more of a private party. We had a waiter assigned only to our table (Michael, I think was his name), and he got every order correct and was highly entertaining. This restaurant is apparently known in the area as the "female steakhouse," because it has smaller portions of filets, with sides of vegetables and salad appetizers. I ordered the Beef 101, which I did not realized involved me cooking my dinner myself on a hot plate at the table, but it was still delicious. The waiter kept the drinks coming and we never had to ask for refills or extra silverware. This is pricier than most places, but definitely worth the money because the food was great and the service was impeccable.

The service was very slow, and the food was okay - certainly not up to our expectations, and the pricing. We don't mind paying more for great food and service, but we very much felt ignored during the time that we were in the restaurant. We would not likely return based upon our initial experience.

Amazing experience!!! Super service and very accommodating. We started with the flight of flavor, which is pieces of filet that you cook your self on a very hot lava stone. Not only is it tasty, it's fun! We also had the delicious deviled eggs. My wife had the Rock Candy as her entree, which is the other app on the lava stone but with ribeye. I had hanger steak, both were wonderful. Don't forget to check out the roof top bar! Very charming and cozy!

As owner of a wine brand, KaDieM, and President of a Winery, DAOU, I have the opportunity to eat in amazing restaurants and meet owners almost every day but, there's just something very special about this place. The food is crazy good! Super fresh and high quality and unique experience. The staff works extremely hard to remember your name and what you like to eat and drink and that takes a special talent and good training. If you walk through the door and don't try the Rock Candy you have missed out on an experience in life that is "life changing" and so much fun. Take friends, family, dates...business associates to Burwell's and have a great time and tell Ken that Karen Hunt sent you...hey, and while you are there, have a glass of my DAOU Cabernet...it goes terrifically well with the steak!

When most restaurants seem to be mediocre at best during restaurant week I was absolutely blown away by the experience we had at Burwell's! The food was absolutely incredible-- we ordered the filet as well as scallops with risotto which were cooked to perfection, the wine went perfect with the food, Vance was an amazing waitress, John poured the best drinks, Dave the manager made extra effort to ensure we had a great experience and I will DEFINITELY be back soon!

Would give this place more stars if I could! Started off with drinks; hubby had a spicy bloody mary and I had a blueberry and mint smash (i cant remember the exact name). Both were awesome! Rock candy appetizer did not disappoint. It was melt in your mouth delicious. I chose the fish special of the evening which was poach sea bass with lobster claw and clams. Amazing! Hubby chose the bone in rib eye. It was probably the best steak I have ever had. Delicious seasoning. Needed nothing else! I was drooling as he was enjoying it. I must admit I was a bit jealous. For dessert we chose the strawberry cake. It was good but not the highlight of this meal. If you like a good steak go here! You won't be sorry.

Without a doubt, they very best food I have ever eaten in a restaurant. For apps I recommend the deviled eggs, the meat that you cook on a hot slab right at the table, and the pork belly. The steak was out of this world and the crab cake was amazing. Really nice atmosphere and the bartender JoJo was a saint! I will never forget this place!

Local and fresh ingredients makes the difference. The aged steak was great. Their 700 deg lava rock appetizer is not that special for the cost

Horrible experience at this restaurant recommended by the hotel concierge for our 17th anniversary dinner. Worst $120 spent at a restaurant in a long time. Waiter took almost 25 min, just to take our order. When reservation was made, we were told that the chef was willing to accommodate food allergies, but my gluten-free, dairy-free options were almost non-existent. There was not even a suitable salad option offered. Husband's steak was undercooked. Chef put it back on the grill, but returned it without any silverware. Perpetually-missing waiter finally brought knife and fork several minutes later. My salmon was charred, literally, as were my grilled carrots. No apologies for delays or undercooked steak. Could not get out of there fast enough. Addendum: Less than 48 hours after my review, the owner of Burwell's replied to me via yelp messaging. His response was exceedingly thoughtful and concerned. He seemed genuinely regretful of my experience, with explanations & apologies, not excuses. He also seemed ready to make a concerted change so this did not happen to other customers...not just offer me a free future meal. In my experience, that kind of sincere action is rare & remarkable.

Seriously I don't know how this place get numerous good reviews. I would give 0.5 star if I could! We have been to over 40 different restaurants around Charleston but this was by far the worst food EVER we had in foodies city, Charleston. Our experience was just a nightmare. We went there last monday. Restaurant seems to be pretty slow with few customers. We ordered two of their signature cocktails first, ended up returning both. I see them trying to be original but the drinks were simply not tasty. I tried another one, no luck with that one either. Yuk, period. After looked through the menu and went back and forth with a couple of items, we settled with a she crab soup and 2 steak burgers. She crab soup arrive in few min. it has too much tomato paste in it and didn't have the smooth creamy taste as she crab soup would, it was just a tangy tomato bisque soup with tiny bit of crab. Not impressed at all. The worst part was the burger. We waited another 45min to an hour just for burgers. They said they have a big group upstairs, ya whatever. i saw just a few tables of customers downstairs and the customer came after us get served before us! Finally, the burger came in. Completely BURNT BURNT BURNT! Bread/bun were BLACK. Eeewwww,,, that was our first word! We asked the waitress to replace the bun. She looked at it said YIKES and took it back. Then the owner brought the burgers back to the table. The bun was AGAIN burnt AND so soggy and still frozen in the middle it broke in half like biscuit!! And they just put the meat back on the soggy bun so the meat was cold and tasteless. We ate half of the meat, left the buns (we were starving...) but the waitress or the owner didn't even ask us if anything wrong with it when they took it away. Seriously?? The owner walked by a couple of times but actually avoid our table because he KNEW I was pi*sed!! Though they offered a free dessert, we couldn't stand to sit there any longer so we left quick. We walk passed several waitresses, didn't hear any "thank you!". Ugh $16 for the nasty dry soggy burnt burger?? We could eat at McD and be happier. Needless to say, we will never go back there EVER again! Only positive review is the waitress. She was trying and nice.

First went to Burell's on a culinary tour and the food was amazing. Had The flight of flavor and blueberry smash which were both amazing. The pastry chef whipped up a Nutella cheesecake which was to die for. Went back for happy hour. The bartender was amazing, each drink was delicious and different depending on your mood. Had the flight of flavor again and the 5 dollar burger was to die for! A must go to restaurant in Charleston. The food is delicious and the staff provides great service. You wouldn't be disappointed.

Wow, what an experience. Sat in upstairs bar and had apps. Bartender catered to our every need. Owner, John, came by and had great conversation with us and was truly interested in our meal. We split bone-in ribeye and it was mouth watering. Had the lobster on flatbread and wife said "orgasmic". Yes I wanted to order more. I'm a local and these guys do it correctly. By far best steak house in downtown Charleston.

Nothing special. We walked into an empty restaurant. The hostess looked at the computer for at least two minutes trying to find somewhere for us to sit. I found it ridiculous. We were seated without menus. Then a different girl brought us menus. Then a different guy brought us water, and told us our server was busy. Our server took our order, and was never to be seen again. Someone new was always at the table. It was quite odd, especially for Charleston...we are used to one server. We had the pulled pork hush puppies. First and last time. For the main course we had the braised short ribs, and the chicken three ways. The menu needs to say braised short RIB, not ribs. It was a flavorless, pressure cooked, amateur short rib. The chicken was over cooked, flavorless, and anemic. It was a huge disappointment. The only saving grace was a bottle of wine that was on sale. Restaurants need to remember that when we go out to eat they need to produce food that quantifies spending that much money on a meal. $150 will buy a lot of groceries...so spending that much on one meal for two the meal needs to be outstanding. Not disappointing.

I highly recommend Burwell's. I had the BEST steak ever...and it wasn't the most expensive cut. The appetizers were excellent...the stone was fun to try and the sauces were to die for. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable...comparable to other high end restaurants without the pretension. I recommend the s'mores for dessert. It's a must try! We will be back, and can't wait to try the brunch!

I'm writing this review a little late so some details have vanished from my memory. I will say that the hot stone concept is amazing and you absolutely must try it. The filet mignon is very good and other cuts are good as well. For our other entree we ordered a special which included fish, I would say that dish was a little lack luster. If you are coming here I would definitely just go for the steak on the hot stone which is very delicious.

This was one of the best meals I've had out in a long time. We sat in the bar for a great happy hour. Everything (including a few specialty cocktails) was under $5. We started with the kale chips, edamame, house specialty burger and steak with a trio of dipping sauces. All were fantastic, especially the steak which came on a heated stone and three classic steakhouse sauces for dipping. We were curious about the rest of the menu, so we decided to order two appetizers off of the regular menu. We order the cedar plank crab cake and deckle. The crab cake was out of this world. It was full of lumps of crab and had a fantastic smoky flavor from the wood. The deckle also came on a heated stone, and literally melted in my mouth! A lot of attention was paid to the decor. I had a hard time believing this restaurant was on Market street! The lighting provided a sexy ambience with a modern Manhattan-esque feel. I am excited to return soon!

Amazing place for date night. Owner mentioned that this steakhouse targets women with their portions and ambiance. Don't let that fool you boys, great food with a unique flair. You will not leave hungry. I had the Holy City Pluff Mud Porter ice cream..... Perfect! Cocktails are interesting and intense. New favorite restaurant in Downtown.

I was in Charleston for a bachelorette party and we had dinner at Burwell's one of the nights we were visiting. It was a fantastic experience. We ended up eating at the bar instead of our reservation table because we loved Louis the bartender so much. He was so accommodating, made great recommendations and made fabulous cocktails! You must try the "You Can't Touch This" or the blueberry cocktail (can't remember the name). One of the girls on the trip said it was easily one of the top 3 meals of her life. Louis even arranged for a cab to pick us up to take us to the King St. bars. Could not have asked for a better evening!!

-Food is overpriced for what you get. -Service is decent. -2/3 steaks that were ordered were rare when they requested medium -Waitress kept our wine glasses full--probably because she knew how dinner was going to unfold. -Ordered a cheese plate and it was

As a steak lover, the steaks were good but highly over rated for the price. Have had much better steaks at far less expensive restaurants. Would not go there again, unless you like $40 for an average steak plus extra for sides and salad. Ridiculous to pay $6 to $8 for a side, definitely my last choice to eat in Charleston!

What a disappointment! Totally a wanna be Halls Chophouse! We took my in-laws there for their 40th anniversary last year and were so disappointed. I ordered a lobster tail which was ok. We ordered the mac and cheese side as well as the asparagus. The mac and cheese was maybe a 3"x3" dish that was to be shared for the table and the asparagus had maybe 4-5 stalks. The food was way overpriced for the quality and quantity. Like I said, the best way to describe this place is a wanna be Halls.

I've been to many steakhouses, and this looks like another run of the mill place. However, my experience was much different than my expectation. My wife and I were visiting Charleston with another couple and we were celebrating our anniversary, made reservations with Open Table. When we came in, our server (Michael) was very knowledgeable and we each ordered a cocktail. I had the 'Bartender's Choice', which was phenomenal and I don't even know what it was. Another classy move by Burwell's, they brought each of us a glass of champagne to celebrate our anniversary on the house...very nice touch. We started with the hot rock steak appetizer. This might have been the single best tasting and presentation dish that I had in my 4 days in Charleston! Glorious. My wife and I had the surf and turf- both were cooked to perfection, the filet melting in your mouth. The prices are much better than a Morton's or Ruth's Chris, but I felt that we got every bit of the attention, atmosphere, and culinary experience that I've had in those other establishments.

My girlfriend and I went to Burwell's for our first time on her birthday. Everything was amazing. Our server was extremely knowledgeable, management came by to ensure our satisfaction multiple times and the food was amazing. As locals we have been to the most popular steak houses in town and Burwell's can compete with any of them on quality of food and service. Great food - great atmosphere

The whole package: fresh and savory food choices; attentive, experienced and accommodating wait staff; and an intimate yet casual dining experience. My husband is the steak man of our family and he rated his wood fired filet a 10 out of 10. I am the finicky eater consuming only fresh unprocessed foods and Burwell's did not disappoint. I savored the grilled shrimp, seared scallops and a brocolli and brussel sprout selection that would make any non vegetable eater convert! Kudos to the chef for honoring my Paleo diet and to the pastry chef for the chocolate decadence which I knew was a winner when for a moment I thought my husband was going to lick the plate!

Easy with the five star reviews, people. The food isn't THAT good, but it is good. Here's the deal....part of Chucktown's charm is in its "oldness"' but after awhile that whole deal gets, well, old. This place is a breath of fresh air. Time to begin gutting the dated insides of some of your restaurants, Chucktown, and take a lesson from Burwell's. The inside is modern, and higher end, with a large bar, which is sort of a scene. There is also a patio out back that is more of a scene than the bar inside, and the female patrons are proudly sporting their biggest Louis Vuitton handbags. The food? Had the NY strip, so did my co worker and it was great, rivaled Oak Steakhouse and Fleming's quality. The asparagus with fried egg side was good, as was the broccolini side, but these are not complicated dishes. The truffle mac n' cheese? Disgusting. We so wanted it to be good, and it was just a bowl of truffle sauce. Of note to all chef's...mac n' cheese never needs additional help...leave it alone and scrap the truffle sauce thing. Dessert? Had the s'mores...came highly recommended. Not a huge fan. The combo of salty marshmellow and sugary cookie was odd, but not bad, worth a try though. The menu runs the gamut as far as food style choices...finally a local restaurant that doesn't tout itself as "low country/southern seafood", but it is mostly steaks and a few mainstream seafood dishes. I like the menu, it is not complicated, and the food fresh. My three stars are based on the food, not the scene. All in all, a good downtown dining experience in a high end atmosphere. Not a place for kids.

No longer a new kid on the block. Burrell's has it right. Great atmosphere, love to jazz live music! Food is a surprise at each order. But not over top all goes together well You have to get the rock order I am coming back for the cocktails alone, but this time for happy hour $ Not much of a beer selection stick to bartender special

The mesquite smell outside this restaurant is enough to draw you in and then the rest does not disappoint. Great atmosphere - casual yet classy - excellent top shelf service from our Man Allen and amazing food. Highly recommend! But watch out! Allen will make you want to come back over and over! Thanks Allen - very much enjoyed our dinner with you.

This is interesting, went on Mother's Day for the 1st time eating at Burwell's. At 6:00 p.m. the place was barely full....not a good sign. Sat us at "any table you want" and we chose a window view, of course! Looked up on their website they offered Kangaroo (yeah, we are foodies) but it was not on the menu. Nor was the pork belly appetizer. No problem, we ordered the Charcuterie, which was wonderful..$14....good variety, good portion, which served 3 of us appropriately. Surprised they offered no fowl, or pork entrees. Beef, beef, no prime rib even;but offered swordfish, scallops or shrimp & grits. Had the reef & turf, & swordfish special. $$$$ Good, but not memberable. Service was good, why not? I think it catered to the tourists, but the big question is..."Would you go back?" No, it didn't make me want to because there is nothing I would want to try now. However, I would do lunch there for the Charcuterie plate, a glass of wine, with a friend, but they don't do lunch....no problem.

Wow. My expectations for a place that I've never heard of in Charleston were low. I love steak, but was disappointed by both Hall's and Grill 225. Not because their steak wasn't good quality (they definitely were), but because I like seasoning. Steak without even salt is SO boring. Blah, I'd rather stay home where the wine is cheaper and my husband aptly seasons my steaks, but I digress. My steak, was served on a hot volcanic stone with rock salt and a side of DELICIOUS seasoning. Oh my taste buds, it was to die for. AND the steak was good quality too. The waiter said it was a step above prime. The truffle Mac was gross, but I didn't even care, because the steak had my full attention. (my husband moderately liked the macaroni and finished it, but I'm pickier) My wine was wonderful and dessert was so good and the perfect size! I loved looking at the menu on an ipad (if you don't, they have regular menus too) because I could see a picture of everything I considered ordering. That always helps me make my mind up. Especially with interesting desserts! We happily ordered the black forest cheesecake. I LOVED the rich chocolate cheesecake, and my husband got the cherries (and I allowed him a little bit of the cheesecake too!). I would definitely recommend a trip here, they are even on Opentable now, which is so convenient. The decor was nice, our waiter was wonderful and VERY patient with my indecisive, million question self. Wine selection was also great, and reasonably priced. I can't say enough good things about this delicious place!

We visited as part of the Charleston Culinary Tour. I would go back here for sure, especially with a group because it was fun to cook our own steak on the lava rock community style. The variety of sauces were tasty. My partner enjoyed the muscles over fresh pasta. Our final bite was a dessert the pastry chef came to talk with us about. I was surprised by how well the green tea and citrus flavors paired - it was the perfect light & sweet finish. The bar is very cool - this would be a great place for happy hour as well.

In Charleston visiting from LA and decided to try this place since they had a great deal with a travelzoo voucher. Good savings aside this place really wowed us. From the food to the ambiance and to the service. Jesse our waiter was very friendly and made great recommendations! We met John the mixologist the night before during a drink tour so my husband wanted another unique but crazy drink. John once again did not disappoint! He whipped up an awesome scotch based drink with all sorts of things and egg whites...yes egg whites! He is a ridiculously talented mixologist! Now to the food: we ordered The Rock as our appetizer, which is a hot stone with thin slices of meat. Yummy! The meat was so tender and had a buttery finish. We then each ordered the two salads, Ceasar and wedge. They were what you would expect but a slightly different take and nonetheless delicious. It was what a salad is supposed to be..a nice fresh crunchy intro to your meal that shouldn't fill you up. Then our entrees...oh our delicious entrees. I ordered the filet mignon medium and DH ordered aged bone-in rib eye. They were both roll and close your eyes to savor that first bite good. I ordered mine wood fired and wow was it amazing! The woody finish yet the soft and tenderness throughout..I didn't want it to end! Of course I finished it though. The Rib eye was very juicy but nothing unique about it. Same quality you would get with other 25+ years aged rib eyes at fine steakhouses :) In the end we were sad to see our meal finish. Then we did something we don't always do after eating three courses...we ordered dessert! The food had been so fulfilling yet it didn't make us feel indigested or tired so why not? We got the chocolate s'mores with peanut butter cups. Everything was made in house and you could taste it!!! Once again roll your eyes back good! All in all we had a great experience from top to bottom and only wish we lived closer. It wasn't only the food but the people. This place is worth it...even without a voucher but it never hurts ;)

Very well done! Attentive service, well timed. Excellent steaks....best in town. Interesting "hot stone" servings for small portions.....women seemed to enjoy. Overall, a new restaurant that's working hard to be a winner. Owner seeking to keep improving; asked "what can we do better" at the end of the evening.

This was the clear favorite dinner on vacation. We were the only table in the place for most of the meal (another couple came in later), which was surprising, but our reservations were for 5pm on a Sunday, so maybe that explains it a little. Our server was great though, and the food, amazing. We got the bartender's choice cocktails, which was a fun surprise (you can say if you hate something and they wont include it) and we did one of the "on the rocks' appetizers, which we thought was awesome and unique. Essentially they bring you a 700 degree hot rock and you cook the meat right on it. We chose the "flight of flavor" one, which was filet and a trio of dipping sauces. I'm a big fan of dipping sauces and these were WONDERFUL. We had a whiskey peppercorn, a bearnaise, a steak sauce (homemade), and then we added the red pepper aioli. All were wonderful, like I said, and the crab cake we also ordered as an appetizer won me over, which is pretty big considering I'm only so-so on crab. I would be very interested in dining again at Burwells next time I am in Charleston!

Spectacular new restaurant. While we were in Charleston for a wedding, we ate at some of the better restaurants including the Husk, and the steak restaurant at the Market Pavilion Hotel, but nothing compared to Burwell's for ambience, service, and particularly the food. I ordered the yellowtail snapper which is served with butternut squash risotto, with grilled endive, and the menu says with pepitas and plum wine gel. The snapper was grilled and the combination was absolutely delicious and very unique tasting. My wife ordered the cedar plank lump crab cake grilled on a seasonal cedar plank with persimmon salsa and remoulade and it was also amazingly delicious. We liked it so much I went back to get a copy of the menu so I could write this review. The meals were quite reasonable for what they included and as good as the quality described above. I would certainly highly recommend it.

Saw the ad for this new restaurant in the Charleston Living magazine, we just had to go there. Tried to get a seat but didn't have a reservation. A packed restaurant is always a good sign. We decided to sit at the bar and wait for an open table. SO glad we did. Everything about this place was great. The friendly bartendar, the friendly waiter and excellent food made our night and dining experience a 5 star. I live in NY, but would definitely go here again if I went back into Charleston, SC. Definitely a MUST!!!!!
