Really enjoyed the service and friendly atmosphere. The food took a little longer than expected to get. I had the daily special of Barbecue Chicken. And it was OK but not fantastic. The chicken actually tasted like eating a corn dog because of all the mustard they used in their sauce. Just not used to that type of sauce.

Good Home Cooked Meal! If you want a good home cooked style meal you need to go here! The restaurant was clean and comfortable. The menu is full of southern style home cooked food. I ordered the sausage with three sides, corn bread and sweet tea. The food was very good- mac n cheese was just like home cooked, rice and gravy and black eyed peas- very good!

Looks like a smaller version of Cracker Barrel. Went here for a quick breakfast with my wife and daughter on the way to the airport on Sunday. It took 30 minutes for eggs and pancakes to arrive. And that was after prodding the manager. The waitress said she should have informed us that it was a 30 minute wait for the food. Cut me a break. You are a quick breakfast and meal spot. The food was just ok as well. I won't be back. Much better choices in the Columbia area.

Lizard's Thicket is a part of my childhood, teenaged years, college, young adult, and now adult life. When Mom was worn out from a long day, when I'd come home from college, and now whenever I wants some country cooking and don't want to clean Lizard's Thicket is where I want to go. Meat and three with a sweet tea please. My favorite is the fried pork chop, with mac n' cheese, Alabama slaw, and Collard Greens. Corn bread please, but we'll get the mixed basket as my wife likes rolls too. I also love eating breakfast here. Lunch... Ahhh lunch at the sandwich counter is probably what/when I come most lately. During the summer I get the salad with chicken (baked usually as it's less fattening, but if you get it with the fried chicken and honey mustard...) YUM. In the winter I eat the spicy black-eye pea soup for lunch weekly. I go to different locations as each one is slightly different. Lizard's Thicket is the restaurant I missed most when I lived in Charleston. It is a Midlands original!

I eat at this location a lot. Mainly drive thru . I came in today and set at the bar. It took a few minutes for them to ask me my order. The funny part is watching all the girls talking about tips and who is on schedule . And saying "such and such was suppose to do that yesterday" Overall not bad. I would recommend the staff not talking about people in restaurant or schedules or tips where customer can hear.

The food here was fantastic and the service was just as good! You get a lot of food here for all the more you pay. As someone who isn't from Columbia this is now one of my favorite places and I'll most certainly be back!!

I've heard mixed reviews about Lizard's Thicket and today I was craving some country fried steak, so I decided to take the plunge and give it a shot. It looked like I was going to have a great time, since the special seemed like a good deal. A meat and 3 veggies, plus bread for $6.99. I got the mixed bread and they brought it out with my tea. My food (country fried steak, mashed potatoes & gravy, mac-n-cheese, baby limas) arrived right behind it and I was a little confused. I ordered country fried steak but they brought me something that looked more like Salisbury steak. It was a lump of meat with no breading and brown gravy, but I scanned the menu quickly and didn't see Salisbury steak listed, and just chalked it up to a different style. It tasted like Salisbury steak, too, but it was edible. The mac-n-cheese tasted like wet noodles. I mean, I could tell it was *supposed* to taste like cheese because of the orange crust on one side, but it failed to follow-through. The mashed potatoes (you can use real potatoes and still cook mass quantities) were instant and laden with salt. The bread mix (roll, cornbread muffin, biscuit) all tasted like they came from a bag and were room temperature. There was a decent amount of food, but whoever is calling this "good country cookin" has got to be from the city. Sara's, Mr. Bunky's, and even Busters are all examples of establishments that cook up mass quantities of food each day and still maintain respectable levels of quality. Plus, I wasn't even asked if I wanted my tea to go!

One of my dads coworkers highly recommended and said it was like real southern homestyle cooking, since we were going to Columbia for a concert. We passed it on the way to the concert and were like oh lord this looks like a cheap Dennys...but whatever we went back to try it since it had such a rave review, and it was immediately awkward as we walked in the door, thinking we went in the wrong door. The guy behind the counter said we were okay, just seat yourselves wherever so we seat ourselves in this little booth. I excused myself to use the restroom and when I returned my mom goes in and my dad's at the table with one menu. I asked if were we bad and all had to share one? and he told me no but the specials are right up there so I had to awkwardly turn my whole body into someone else's meal to see the specials board, then we're all looking at this menu and it's got a vegetables section (which really meant sides because Jell-o is not a vegetable) and there are asterisks after some of them with a footnote that says our vegetables are not necessarily vegetarian because they're seasoned with pork. Anyway, I can't decide what I want, my dad's almost ready and my mom's ready and the lady comes back and asks are you folks ready to order or do you need a minute and I'm still really unsure so my mom said I think a minute and the waitress goes okay! what do you want ma'am? and I just kinda start laughing and my mom just starts ordering and asked if all of the vegetables were greasy in pork fat or whatever and she goes well they're seasoned with pork and my mom asks okay but is it in like fat or what? and the lady goes well it's not like chunks of pork or anything but it is flavored with pork and then mid-sentence walks away to another table that I guess was giving her a look for some reason and we're just like umm...okay? So anyway, I just decide on a grilled chicken sandwich thing that sounds like just chicken, tomato, and lettuce, so she gets to me and I tell her that and ask if there's mayo on it and she says there can be, so I say no thanks, but can you put ranch on it? and she goes just ranch? and I say yes please and she goes okay and then I ask for some on the side with my fries and she says okay, then my dad orders. She also asks if we want biscuits or rolls and we say can we have both and she goes sure, and we never saw those until the meal came out so we were pretty hungry and waiting. Our food came out pretty quickly. So she puts my chicken thing down in front of me on an awkwardly tiny plate and it's literally just chicken on a bun, no lettuce or tomato like it says on the menu. she literally just gave me ranch on the side because I said "just ranch" (which we were charged for). My dad's stew is literally about two spoonfuls in a portioned plate, just like a little bit of stew in the larger portion and his sides in the other, and my moms food is fine. Then we start eating and my dad's stew is cold so of course we send it back, my mom's fish and my chicken were passably lukewarm, and the food was just horrendous in general. I will never go back and probably could have gotten better food for half the price at the Taco Bell down the street.

I have been going here since I was a little lad. All of my friends and I always have to hit this place up. Its not at all expensive for the amount of food and they are always sooo nice. I am actually heading down to Thicket on Knox to go eat. I like to eat at all the Thickets to see if there is a difference in any of them and I have yet to find it. They all hold my expectations and are never have i had ill feelings on any dimension of Thicket food.
