Darn good breakfast, fast and cheap. Had the chicken fried steak, wife had the Hangover Cure. Both were good portions, served hot, and tasty. Coffee is the usual weak stuff you'll find at most places like this, basically cheap brewed Maxwell ground coffee. The place oozes "local". I would definitely revisit next time in the area.

Great food with a warm smile. Small restaurant with a down home feel. Generous portions served fresh off the grill with reasonable prices. Will definitely return again!

Had a local recommend this place, which usually works out for us. This time it did not. Went for lunch with a party of 6, and I won't go again. Half of the party thought their food was decent (just ordered sandwiches). My sister ordered the chicken parm sandwich and it was inedible and my shrimp and grits were aweful. The service was also awful. The waitress had a big attitude problem, spilled a drink on 3 of us, when someone asked for lemons for their water she rolled her eyes grabbed 3 lemons and threw them in the water cup.

Small town diner feel. Husband had gyro with chips and I had BLT and potato wedges. Good food and inexpensive.

We hated this place! $32 for lunch, and one of the lunches was a kids lunch. I had a double cheese burger, which was $9.99 on the menu, it came with fries and a really good pickle. The fries though, we're pale shoestring type fries, with no seasoning on them, and the were soggy and under done. My oldest son ordered the grilled cheese sandwich it says $4.99 on the menu, same lousy fries, and a sandwich with one piece of American cheese, that wasn't even melted. My youngest son had the kids corn dog. On the menu it says all kids meals are $5.99 and come with a drink. So if you do the math the bill should have been $20 plus the soda my oldest son and I had. Even at 2 bucks each, there's still a 8 dollars somewhere that we were charged. But you'll never know where the charge was, because they don't give you a bill. You're to go up to the counter to pay your ticket. When we got up to the register, the cashier rang me up and said 32 dollars and whatever cents it was. I just handed her my card, left a 4 dollar tip, and walked away disgusted. The decor on the inside, is a mix match of stuff. There's a deers ass with an eyeball in it hanging on the wall. There are your typical pictures of locals or the mayor or whomever it is that may or may not be a celebrity or politician. There is one picture that was a bit freaky though, and quite cool at the same time. The little girl in the photo, seems to have her eyes follow you, and she turns from this sweet little thing, to a complete exorcist looking monster. The waitresses there are your typical diner style hash slingers, they know the regulars, they give you about 3 minutes before they're rushing you to order. When you ask for a minute, then you're on their last nerve, and they make you wait 10 minutes. The burger I ordered was so over seasoned with some kind of seasoning salt, I could only eat half of it. Our waitress joked that it was too big, and got the best of me. I told her it was awful, and I just couldn't eat it, because it was way too salty and over cooked. The pickle was good though. Other than your standard diner style food, which was worse then the Hilton Head Diner, there's nothing about this place we liked. To have food worse then the Hilton Head Diner, is saying something! And I'm sure there really isn't a compitition going on, but there has to be something, because up until today. I thought you couldn't be worse then the Hilton Head Diner. But Squat and Gobble just proved me wrong... this place just plain sucked Ass!

No, it's a local place and perhaps for the locals the food is good. I don't know-not for me. The food is very reasonably priced. I went with a friend because of course the locals downtown said it was good and well kindly I suppose for the price. To each his own. The name caught us...there you go.

I was really excited to try out this place because of the reviews but was disappointing. I had a Greek omelet with the fried potatoes. We went around 10 in the morning but for some reason the potatoes were not fresh at all, tasted a day old. The omelet was odd, it had veggies and feta but no flavor. It seems there was no seasoning whatsoever. For Greek I expected a lot more since they had other Greek items. The service was a bit on and off and felt ignored most of the time.

Having recently moved to Bluffton, we were looking for a local eatery for fast, cheap, and good food. This place was recommended by a friend whose opinion about fast, cheap, and good food I will no longer trust. The food was adequate, worthy of 2 stars: pita chips were soggy and cold, as if they were taking out of a bag and plopped on the plate. The rest of the greek salad was okay. The hamburger was cold and the bun untoasted. The big disappointment was the service; it doesn't even garner 1 star. The waitress came to get our drink order, never making eye contact with us. She was too consumed with filling the sugar and ketchup. We asked for extra napkins- she flung them on the table and quickly walked away. My husband and I are great customers and excellent tippers. We begrudgingly tipped 10% just because...

The name and decor are by far the best thing about this place. The service is okay. THe service is quick, and the food is meh. Grits were HORRIBLE!! pancakes were good. Eggs weren't seasoned enough and they overcooked them. But by far the thing I found most annoying. I was dining with my guy friend and I asked for the check and when the waitress goes to give the check she shoved is in my male friends face. Doesn't put it in the middle of the table, doesn't give it to me since i'm the one who asked for it, but literally has the check waving in my guy's face. I might be a southern thing that guys always pay or something, I dunno, but found it incredibly dated and rude.

A bacon and eggs institution not to be missed. When I first heard the words "squat and gobble" I thought "not in a million years will I eat there" - but I was very wrong. It's my number one spot going to or from the Savannah airport, it hits the spot every time.

Got a great recommendation from our AirBnB hosts Lucy and Peter. Hessley was our server and was solid on the Hangover Cure breakfast. Also turns out she was from the same hometown as my girlfriend and we had some common friends. Small world and Southern Charm. Will come back.

I had just moved to Bluffton from Massachusetts where my favorite places were unpretentious diners or local mom and pop kind of places. I wanted a southern fix of local food. This place fit the bill. The name "Squat and Gobble" definitely adds to the charm. The Waitstaff is friendly and attentive, food is fast, delicious and fits anyone's budget. The atmosphere with the singing deer or the "hostess" greeting you at the front door ;-) makes this place a weekly favorite!

Great service, quaint / small spot but good location. En route to downtown Bluffton, but not on the main street so you could easily drive by without seeing it. Diner style menu with some appetizers and breakfast. Glad we came here!

We are travelling and always enjoy local places where we can truly taste the local favour. This place is cozy but cute. The food was good and reasonable price. Staffs were friendly and nice. They had lots of local people. Strongly recommended if you are tired from loud and expensive tourist restaurant!! Oh. They close early like 3pm.

Awesome, kitschy little joint off the Bluffton Pkwy that's open 24-7 and serves a great mix of Greek and southern fare (odd mix, right? but good food!). You'll find everything from a late night (early?) breakfast crowd stopping in after bar hopping, to businessmen lunching, to bikers and grandmothers alike meeting up over a meal. I have been for lunch before and everyone enjoyed their meals. I stopped in over the Fourth of July weekend for breakfast; it was hot, tasty, fresh and inexpensive. Pay at the counter after you're finished eating, just tell 'em your table number.

With a name like Squat and Gobble, I didn't know what to expect when a friend recommended we try this place. Oh, where to begin? This definitely is a kitschy place with a little bit of everything for everyone. This restaurant is not far from Hilton Head and is an ideal lunch spot if you're playing golf or shopping off island. After shopping nearby, we had a late lunch there around 3:00 and lucky for me, they had a bunch of early bird specials that were quite enticing. :) I had the gyro plate with spanikopita, olives and fried pita chips. They also have salads, sandwiches, pizzas and lots more to choose from. This restaurant is open 24 hours for the local party animals that roll in about 3 a.m. (not exactly the early bird like me).

The Greek Gyro omelette with home fries was pretty tasty and better than I expected based on recent reviews. Nothing particularly special about the dish, but I have no complaints either.

Not bad for a simple little place that serves mainly plain sandwiches and sides. Good service, family place, many good deserts and very reasonably priced

A half-hip, half-quaint, kind of country-ish (but near a resort town) restaurant. Had a passable crab-cake sandwich. Service was very quick and efficient, but felt surprisingly cold and unfriendly. No stereotypical, hospitable, small-town southern hospitality here.

The Squat "n" Gobble is a destination restaurant in the Bluffton / Hilton Head South Carolina area. Known to many locals as a 5 STAR breakfast joint (Walter did have a wonderful breakfast circa 2002), the Squat "n" Gobble is fantastic for lunch or dinner. Jules and Walter had a late lunch just the other day. Jules had a burger, fries, Diet Pepsi. Walter had crab cakes, onion rings and Diet Pepsi. Note: the yelp map is off by about 5 miles !!! The Squat "n" Gobble is located in Old Town Bluffton.

We found this place while taking the back road from Charleston to Hilton head Island. The breakfast was perfectly cooked. The eggs were excellent. However the server seemed annoyed at us from the moment we got there, and never returned to our table to check on us. I have no idea why. I even had to go up to the register to let them know we were done.

    (3)
  • Mae P.

Squat n Gobble is the place to go for the locals of Bluffton. The wait staff and food were great. The breakfast served all day is good. It's the perfect place to go when you're hungry and want some good home cooking. You know it's casual when the napkins are washcloths. Squat n Gobble is a great place to stop and grab a meal.

S and G has a lot of very good qualities about it. But the most glaringly obvious, you ask? Has to be open 24 hours of operation, considering the location it is in, is like going on a camping trip and coming across Ray's Rib Shack just made that up) in the middle of the Ozarks. OK, not that far fetched, but I am a NYC guy and have traveled enough to know, its just not common place to have a 24 hour, full menu, dining establishment available. Its crazy. The food is simple and very good, the owner is Greek, so there is a variety of such delectable's. Mix in some country fair of pulled pork, mac and cheese, fried chicken these are dinner menu options. Breakfast has great options, waffles, eggs Bennie (love them). Additionally, there are pasta dishes, fish options, salads, special sandwiches (get the grilled prime rib melt!) and desserts. To harp at the geographics again, this place is not exactly on any relative, or close association of Main Street's and the menu is loaded, hours are, did I mention 24 hours?

    (4)
  • R. C.

The name is not the only thing offensive about this restaurant. I am speaking about a placard that hangs on the wall near the register. Deceptively and yet overtly placed among the other kit ch and paraphernalia in the restaurant hangs a caricature of a "pickaninny", a symbol that has been used, universally, as a demeaning stereotype of black children. I know that this is the south, but it is 2013, not 1913... and this image Should be offensive to everyone, not just because its a false representation that demeans black people, but it is also demeaning to the spirit of anyone who views it and who believes that they can walk away from it with their humanity unsoiled.

  • Bethany S.

The food is nothing special and if you ask for an egg white omelette the waitress will make fun of you, or at least she did with me. The customer service is not great and there is a literal deer anus hanging on the wall. Yes. You read that correctly. The only thing that's a positive is that it is always clean and your food is prepared quickly.

Best diner name ever. Went while visiting my mom and grandparents. At 1am. After a good bar crawl. With 10 people. (They are open 24 hours). Food was delicious "diner breakfast all day" food. One of us was really jonesing for Fried Chicken & Waffles....no go on the waffles, but they subbed in french toast instead. Superior alternative. Our waitress was very friendly, but not in a fake-friendly waitress way. (She got a little annoyed when one of us kept playing with the singing deer head on the wall.) At least it was amusing. The menu has a huge selection, service is good and adequately fast (you never feel like they're rushing you), and per their t-shirts, they don't care if you don't opt for pants that day. :-)

Kitschy little restaurant that has made a name for itself with its funny name. Terrific service, expansive menu, and solid country cookin' make it stand out as more than just a name. Whether you are in the mood for breakfast or Greek or anything in between you will find it here - for cheap! Bonus points for selling beer (though not on Sunday...silly SC blue laws) .

Food is ok but the service is great. Seems like a local mom and pop restaurant so everyone is nice there. I love their country fried steak breakfast but their steak and eggs dish was pretty awful, the steak wasn't seasoned. My friend said their cheeseburger was well seasoned and their blueberry pies are pretty good except for the fact that it was served cold but on a hot plate. Oh and they got some bomb ass hushpuppies as well.

Went because of the funny name, was delighted by the food. Gyro was terrific, as were the onion rings. Friend had the burger (seasoned beautifully) and loved it. Carrot cake was wonderful! Service was unbeatable, never had to ask for refills or attention! Open 24 hours, serves breakfast all day.

I try to eat here whenever I am in the area. I love it. The staff are so nice, there's an Elvis singing deer on the wall, they have yummy greasy onion rings, and lets face it, you should not be able to mess up a club sandwich. I will always return.

A local favorite and classic, I had breakfast at Squat and Gobble and loved it. Egg white omelete with cheese, grits, and hash browns. It was all excellent and the waitresses were very kind. These is in a neat location - down in old town Bluffton - and is definitely a place to grab a bite to eat if you are looking for a quick, inexpensive fix. It is a diner, so it isn't quite a gourmet lineup, but they have great breakfast and some good southern comfort food.

I was hungry for breakfast and this place looked like a good place. Immediately I felt like this is where locals like to eat which is what I love when I'm visiting from out of town. The wait staff seated me promptly and were above average in friendliness. The menu was much more extensive than expected. When I eyed the "chicken fried steak" I was sold! The food was very good and the atmosphere great. I will ad that I was visiting from the west coast and Bluffton is a very pretty place and the people are quite hospitable and polite. When I visited Fort Pulaski outside Savannah the next day, I saw that some quarters were furnished with furniture purloined from Bluffton during the Civil War.

I think it's so funny that this place has such great reviews. It's really just okay, nothing special the items are all average. Very cramped retaurant, not a lot of seating and it always looks dirrrty. maybe it's good for late at night when nothing else is open ...... well I guess if you've been drinking anything taste good!

When we vacation, we try to find local hole in the wall type places to eat. his is mostly because we have found that the local places are usually he best thing going. The Squat and Gobble is no exception. It is a Diner, so basing my review on diner type food, this place rocks. The food is great, the waitress was friendly, even to us Yankees.

We found the service good, the food nice, and the prices not bad. It is what it is and that is a Greek Dinner. I had the stuffed pork chops, stuffed with feta cheese and spinach. My wife had a small Greek pizza that she says "Wasn't Bad". We would go back.

WONDERFUL PLACE TO EAT!!!! Wait staff are nice and friendly, food is tasty and a good bit to choose from, fish, burgers, pizza, Greek food also & they always have fresh home made desserts. Open 24-7 which is nice. Down home feel. And The Owners are also very nice folks! Can not ask for much more.

Great hole in the wall (diner, drive-in, dive) type restaurant that was featured on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Very reasonable prices. Tight fit if there is a lot of people but they seem to have a quick turn over by getting the food out rather quickly. (Sunday is their busiest day FYI) It's a local spot so if you're in town, I would recommend it over the touristy places that are have much higher prices. Food was tasty. We had a party of 8 and everyone ate everything so I consider that a good sign. Get your "Squat n' Gobble" on!

Great food. Great service. Great price. As an out of town guest to Bluffton, we were treated well. The menu is diverse, and all 4 people in our party enjoyed their meals. Ranging from shrimp and grits, to a calzone, to a good old fashioned cheeseburger. The fried pickles were a special treat. Wow. Thanks.

We went for dinner, the food was ok but way over priced for the quality. I have heard good thing but this might be just a good breakfast place. I would not recommend it of lunch or dinner.

Wow. Thanks.
