Seated quickly. We chose outside table. Waited 10-15 minutes for waitress. Ordered a beer each and the nachos. Beer arrived about 20 minutes later. Hubby's blue moon in a glass with an orange slice reasonably cold. My Coors lite not so cold. Mountains not blue on the label. Sent it back. Kids playing football kick the ball towards our table. Hits hubby in side of head and bounces into my lap. When I sent the warm beer back with our waitress we ordered a house burger to split. 10 more minutes and no beer but the burger shows up with an extra plate that was dirty. Still no beer for me. Ask server to check what happened to our nachos? Server comes back and tells us he can't find the nacho order, says he's sending manager. Manager come out with another warm Coors lite for me. Showed him dirty plate. At this point we've had enough. State we'. Pay for our beers and leave. Manager did comp the beer that hubby drank and the two that I didn't. Don't think we'll try this one again

This restaurant and bar was recommended by a local who was closing her restaurant on a Sunday. Most memorable were the wings, fried gator, and the Korean rib stack. Nice selection of beer. We were pleasantly surprised. Definitely a locals hangout.

Had the Benedict Burger and it was amazing- great atmosphere, can't wait to go when the weather cools down and sit outside! The whole staff was friendly and accommodating.

Fish tacos were delicious!! A little on the spicy side, but went great with a cold beer! Definitely be back!

Great food and really neat setting. Even though it was raining we had a great time. Love the idea of live music every night!

Fantastic bar/restaurant tucked into the historic downtown of old Bluffton. When you walk up it's an open air seating venue with live music, but there is also the older quaint restaurant that offers indoor seating. Highly recommend sitting outside. The menu is eclectic with great with seafood, meat, and poultry options with a touch of Southern flair. The fish tacos are amazing and have fresh flavor! Have a few drinks and enjoy the scenery, music, and delicious food!!

OMG! The grouper and grits are amazing!! We also love the parmesan fries. Kids burger is substantial. Fish tacos are so..so. Wings were great. Oyster shooters are a must! Bangin shrimp is very, very good. Usually a band playing outside. Great atmosphere.

Great live music!! Sweet potatoe fries were fabulous, but don't bother with the bean burger. Spices & flavor were nice, but the mushy consistency of the burger was NOT good. I was hoping for something more burger like I've had at other places...even my microwave Morningstar is better.

Came here for good food and late night drinks with the wife and unfortunately they just started this late night menu action and it's no Bueno! Ordered a cheeseburger and truffle fries and they brought out a burger that was bad backyard quality at best and fries that had Romano cheese dumped on top!!! I was highly disappointed because I was looking forward to the menu I witnessed from previous reviews! I don't doubt that they are top shelf prior to 10pm but I advise to dine here before the clock strikes 10 because this "New" late night menu sucks! But I'll give it another go for sure! Fingers crossed........

$1 Mimosas and Sweet Tea Fried Chicken. Belly full, belly happy! Pirogues were a hit, and the Crab Cake Beni's were about 3" tall and spot on.

This is a great place to eat. The food is amazing and the price is extremely reasonable. We had a terrific person to serve us and we liked the informal atmosphere. We ate inside as it was too hot outside. This is a wonderful place for value, excellent food and a very upbeat atmosphere.

The only thing that would have improved our experience was being recognized quicker but they were busy. The gator bites, house burger, and fries were great. Couldn't ask for better pub food, choice of beer, crowd, or live entertainment. Cheers!

Very nice atmosphere and food. This place had an inviting outdoor area with live music and some really good beer on tap. Our favorite was the River Dog beer. Indoors is a little small but the whole experience was a good one. Would definitely go back.

Absolutely delicious!! I had possibly the best hamburger (Ghost Burger) i've ever eaten. We were driving aimlessly, looking for a local restaurant while touring Old Town Bluffon. Somehow, we ended up at this little restaurant and were extremely satisfied. We will definitely eat again when we vacation at Hilton Head Island. This is one of our new favorites! Thanks for the great service!

We saw that they had happy hour pricing so we decided to give it a try. We are glad we did! We found a local gem that had some great flavors and prices. We ordered off the happy hour menu and had the truffle fries with a curry ketchup (best part of dinner), buffalo wings and pulled pork tacos with slaw. We will probable head back later in the week for the tacos and fries, they were that good!

We visited the restaurant for lunch during the Farmer's market. We're local but haven't tried it and were excited to do so. It was busy but not all of the tables were seated. We waited at least 20 minutes (not exaggerating) and our waitress never showed up. The hostess felt sorry for us and brought us drinks but could not take our order. We asked three waitresses to find ours. They all said they would but no one ever showed up. It became comical after 4 people, including the hostess, said I will find the hostess. One of them had to be our hostess. I spoke to all but one of them. We gave up! It was so ridiculous that we got to a point we didn't feel the restaurant "deserved" our business. I've read the other reviews. It seems the food is really good. We hate to miss out but I can't support a restaurant where no one would step up and take responsibility for its customers.

Love the burgers and the truffle fries are a must. Ask for all 3 dipping sauces with the fries.

I went to have lunch here on one of the hottest days in August.113 with the heat index...hothothot! We got here before the lunch rush!!! Yesss. It was so cool and refreshing inside. It's small inside, but they had a patio with fans ( I think) outside. We had a waiter named Erik who was so cute and sweet. I had champagne and a yummiest burger! I don't think champagne and burgers go together, but I was on vacay so wth!! The burger was cooked to perfection and had great flavour. I would definitely go back and eat there! I actually wish I was back there right now, so I could have a beer and a burger!

The address is correct but the GPS directions are incorrect--they will take you to a gated community off Route 278. The restaurant is in a"courtyard" off Calhoun Street in Old Town Bluffton. The food and ambiance are great and daily specials are offered. Well worth the trip!

Look it is not fine dining but it is a homey restaurant that you can bring your friends or kids to while visiting the Lowcountry. Yummy menu options. Nothing's been so amazing that we rave about it but the food is solidly good and the atmosphere is excellent. We will return again and again.

Nice atmosphere especially sitting outside with the band playing. However my grouper was raw when I got it, and it took over 15 minutes to get a replacement. My family finished eating and the table was cleared before I even got to start. So go for the beer and the atmosphere, not the food!

Came here as I shared the loaded nachos with a friend the other day. Dinner was delicious!!! Loved the OTDGrouper, grits, spinach and Boursin! Very smooth and rich tasting. My husband thought the Low Country Alfredo outstanding. Can't wait to come again! Wonderful Valentine's Day dinner

Glad to see Bluffton is still a state of mind regardless of how built up and tourist tacky HHI area has gotten. Five stars for Bluffton's best watering hole. I rarely get to go home to Bluffton, but this is always a spot, especially for brunch.

Probably a good spot for a brew, but I got a burger, and it was seriously lacking. The bun was cold, dense, and flavorless. Bacon was minced like Bacos. All-in-all, the ingredients tasted cheap and bland while the flavor combination was uninspired. On top of that I paid $13 for a bad burger... the service was good, though.

Went out for a Thursday evening and got there at 5:35. We were told it would be a 25 min. wait so no problem. After about 35 mins., I went to check with the hostess and see where our name was on the list. She then informed me that they were working on about an hour wait time now. How does your wait time increase the longer you sit and wait for a table??? This was a Thursday mind you... who knows what a Friday or a weekend might be like. I wouldn't be able to tell you because I won't be back. If you cannot serve customers on a weekday then I haven't much hope for you any other time.

let me tell you about the fried green tomatoes. since I hadn't heard anything about them prior, I wasn't expecting much. but listen. I will dream about this meal for the rest of my life. i think it alone could pull me out of a 3-5 month depression. the shrimp were cooked perfect (always a gamble), it comes on a bed of romaine (), the fried green tomatoes were everything you could want out of one (and there were 4) , mozzarella isn't always the right consistently (but this was excellent), and the sauces (red pepper purée and balsamic) couldn't have been better proportioned or prepared. and it's so pretty I took maybe 19 photos before I even took a bite. this, combined w live music and one dollar mimosas and eating outside in the shade, is probably what heaven is like. if you haven't gone, go. If you have gone, please eat this every meal for me. I will never forget u. xoxo -Kels

We were extremely happy with our lunch. Large portion and flavorful, for $10. We had the special soup and sandwich. I had a salmon BLT with chicken enchilada soup and my husband had onion soup with a chicken salad sandwich. We will visit again. Great spot.

Went there for the first time on father's day. Had the burger Benedict and it was fantastic. The atmosphere wasn't much, but for pub grub I thought it was great

One of our favorites! We live nearby and walk to the Dispensary about once a week. The food is great and there seems to be music just about every time we go. The happy hour menu is a great value ($1 tacos, and great pulled pork nachos). The House Burger is also a favorite.

We had dinner here tonight. My 2 reflects the service. We finally did get food and the burgers are great. I would give them a 4. The problem was getting someone to wait on us. After at least 15 min after being seated we first flagged down the hostess. She indicated she would get someone but did not and then just ignored us. After flagging down s few others we were able to refill a drink and then some guy passed by who did take our order. Lucky we did not need anything else as we had no server that was ours. Another guy brought the food and a female took our check. They were busy but there were plenty of workers. Just disorganized and no one running the show.

Very relaxed atmosphere. Outdoor Tables, Live Acoustic Music. A festive feeling in the air! The Palmetto Animal League associates had some of their dogs out and about. Service was a bit confusing on the orders, however, the service in general was good. I really enjoyed my Shrimp and Grits. Tender Shrimp, Smoked Ham in a Light Cheese Sauce surrounding Stone Ground Grits cooked to perfection and topped with Fresh Sauteed Spinach! A great drink menu, and including the many Local Brews, bottled and on tap! Sample some of The Low Country's Local Wines. Very Enjoyable Evening with Family and Friends! Chef Gary Curry

A pleasant little surprise. Stopped in for a beer and a bite while doing some sight-seeing near HHI. Quirky/quaint place, nice people. The menu has the standard pub fare but also some interesting twists and unexpected additions. All of the presented food I saw looked very appetizing.

My 1st time trying this place was today during the Arts & Seafood Festival.. Even though they were totally slammed, our food was really good & our server Abby (hopefully I spelled that right) was great.. The band that was performing was cool too... Can't wait to go back....

What a great place to hang out with friends! Bartender is friendly and has a great sense of humor. Great place to catch a game and have a good drink. The place has a ton of character! Love the old style! Can't wait until the kitchen opens!

Visited the Dispensary on a Friday night with a party of 6 folks. We all ordered something different and 3 appetizers. Everything was incredible. For a casual evening in the summer it simply doesn't get better than cold beer and fantastic food at The Dispensary. Our little girls had the grilled cheese and fries. They loved them, but what 2 year old wouldn't? OK, the big kid stuff. Buffalo wings, fish tacos, Benedict burger with truffle fries. Oh, and BBQ nachos, amazing. Everything was just amazing. Found this place especially good for kids. They ran around and played with the cornhole boards having a great time while the "adults" sat back and relaxed with our ice cold beer.

No place that I have been to in Historic Bluffton can touch the Dispensary as to historic value and transformation. Established 1893, the location used to sell household goods and medicine and were quite successful. Island Packet wrote an article that in one year (1899) its profits were $414,000, which is the equivalent of 7.5 million today. Inside, the place is right out of an old west meets S.C. historic landmark. Rich with beautiful heavy wood, from floor to ceiling, I got very comfortable, very quickly as I settled into my Strongbow, hard cider. But I could not sit still, there was so much to see inside and out, I was driving my buddy crazy, running from end to end reading all of the artifacts and wall hangings. I was trying to soak it all in at once. The little plaza it is located in was so well lit and decorated for the holidays, it was as if Norman Rockwell was chosen to createa. 'New Year's Eve in the South' portrait. The architecture and character if this place is so worth the time to go and have a look and a brew, as happy hour is Everyday (I'm pretty sure about that, but check ahead)..

Great place! Sitting outside, drinking Beam and Coke and listening to live music on a spring night. This is what the South is about!

This place is one of a kind. It makes you feel like you have stepped back in time to have a beer with The James Gang.

Decor is lovely, however the high narrow benches and tables make it hard to dine with children. We ordered the truffle fries which were outstanding, the juicy Lucy burger which was great and the special falafel which I sent back because it was not cooked through (just raw slop on the pita). I did not get anything to replace the special because it would have taken too long. Other than the falafel drama the food was wonderful - just going to stick to burgers and fries from now on though!

Best casual place in Bluffton with excellent food and service. Sundays are so much fun with kids and animals outside and inside a bustle of business! Really enjoy this place and the burgers are TOOOO good!

This place is an amazing hole in the wall. Located in historic downtown bluffton, this Is a great local stop that has the best burger hands down In the area. Although once the bar lost Mel ( the English guy )I think this place lost its genuine local swagger and some of its qualities that made it such a great hang out spot. Since Mel has left I have been several times and the bar is just very commercial and the new bartenders are you're typical food and bev industry pricks that are 35 and still hitting on 20 year olds. Bring back Mel

I wanted to love this place because The Sage Room is my favorite restaurant and the chef has ties here. The music and atmosphere were great. There is no drink menu, so unless you know exactly what you want, the waitress isn't much help "we don't have any frozen drinks" ... The burger, with blue cheese, caramelized onions, and bacon sounded great. Too bad my order of medium rare came out well done. The side of onion rings were nothing special. All the outdoor wrought iron tables and chairs were taken, and the planks serving as tables and benches were uncomfortable. Overall, I can see why locals love it - you need to be known here. Glad I tried it but won't be back.

  • Michael S.

I was disappointed with the service, and quality of the food and poor service. It took over an hour to get our food, I went with my parents after we learned that they were owned by The Sage Room people which we love. A server that brought appetizers to our table sat down with friends that were eating outside and smoked a cigarette during peak Saturday night busy time. If you want to drink and listen to music it is okay, but if you want food do not expect great service or timely service.

Old Town Dispensary is a place you can go where locals hangout. The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff is attentive and fun to be around. I definitely recommend stopping in for a drink or two when you find yourself in Historic Old Town Bluffton.
