A nice place to go for a burger and a beer. Service was fine. Decent craft beers but little description.

Went here the other night with a friend. It was fantastic and the food came out very quickly. The staff was very polite and welcoming!

I was here a couple weeks ago and I have to say that I was quite pleased with my lunch. It was a really nice day out so my mother and I decided to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine that we got. The service was a little bit slow and the fact that we were outside did not help. There is Sun city right next door to us, which means a ton of old people, so I thought perhaps the late greet was normal considering those old bastards ask a million questions and are as slow as hades. Once we finally got a server, we were very much pleased with her smile and quickness when it came to fulfilling our needs. The food was awesome and came in hefty proportions which was something I really appreciated considering the fact that I eat A LOT. No joke there. I would have given this place that last star but the late greet by the server took it away. Other than that, great food and prices!

This is our go-to local place for good food, drinks, and live music. It is always nice to sit out on the deck and have a few drinks and listen to the music. I usually have the chowder and half seafood sandwich. My hubby likes the chicken jalapeno BBQ pizza. Good portions and good prices. It can be crowded during the summer months when the snow birds come back from the north, but it is always worth a few minutes wait.

This rating doesn't reflect the food, but rather the overall atmosphere. Food would get 4.5 stars, as would the service! Other diners, maybe 2 stars. The "drinkers" outside were extremely loud, obnoxious, and vulgar! Certainly the restaurant doesn't condone behavior such as this, but the loud ones were paying for what they consumed! Maybe next time I'll sit indoors!

  • Bob L.

Were very impressed with the seafood pot pie, big bits of crab, lobster, scallops under a puffed pastry that gives first impression you'll never finish it...but it's so good you won't leave a morsel. It's a mistake to go around 6pm thinking you'll beat the crowd, we sat outside waiting or a table till 6:45 and then noticed by 7pm many open tables. Avoid sitting by the door to the outside area as the live music blares at you every time the wait staff come in or out.

Good food. Friendly staff. I ordered the chicken Parmesan and it was very good the only weird thing was garlic pita instead of garlic bread. Other than that my wife's food was good and the service was very friendly. We will definitely eat there again.

Great draft beer selection. Be aware IPAs and other beers aren't listed on the menu, so ask. The fish and chips were terrible. So much so that I won't be back. Service was great.

Nice little hideaway sports bar type of place, a little off of the beaten path (everything, it seems in Bluffton, is buried in to 40 acre woods. While the Ale House is not in the woods, it is so far off of the road, I drove past it dozens of times and had no idea it was there). Stopped here for a light heal. I had a chicken tenders basket off of the appetizer menu. 4 pieces of hot, right out of the fryer battered chicken, covering a bed of could have been hotter fries. Food was good. Our server was attentive. Recommended. @Removeyourhat

Fun atmosphere and decent beer. Food is average but nice place to just hang out and have a couple drinks and an appetizer. Definitely feels more "bar" oriented than food.

My friends and I visted twice. The menu options are good and the atmosphere is friendly and inviting. The staff is very polite and service was well. Will recommend to anyone looking for a nice meal in a good atmosphere.

All the food quality and staff enthusiasm one might expect from a bus station snack stand, without the hope of leaving quickly.

Our local "go to" place. Friendly folks, good food, varied menu, inside and outside seating, music sometimes, plenty of TV's, great bartenders. Always a good visit.

Love the atmosphere- not too loud. They have an Okatie ale for 1.75. Taste great for a great price. I had buffalo wings which was cooked to perfection. My wife had seafood pastry pot pie. It was to die for. The whole week we were in Sun City we ate there 3 times. And there is an ice cream store next store!

A go to when we are driving to HHi. Good service and I love the low country reuben.. Not fancy or funky but they do the job and I've not had a bad meal. If it is late stop by for a good nosh.

We love to stop here for lunch while traveling to Hilton Head. Their corn and crab chowder is the best. This visit we also ate a BBQ sandwich - delicious as well. They were very busy but our service was excellent. Jack Frost ice cream next door is awesome!

We really loved this place last year, but this year, not so much. Food and service were both indifferent.

My Dad and I stopped in for lunch on Tuesday 11/27 after getting rained out on the golf course. We sat at the bar and both had a bowl of the Corn Crab Chowder and shared an order of wings. The food came out hot and our bartender was excellent. It did become busy in the dining room as it was around lunchtime and since it is close to Sun City, a lot of retirees come here. Overall, your typical pub fare on the menu which does the job.

Outstanding soup! Shrimp gumbo and Crab Corn Chowder. Also turkey burger was awesome. Great experience with an awesome wait staff.

We went here a handful of times during our stay, purely out of convenience -- the Okatie Ale House was directly across from our hotel, situated in a little plaza that also houses a tiny ice cream shop and a liquor store. Our experiences here ranged from 2 star to 3 star, depending on when we went and where we sat. Inside seating: reasonably prompt, friendly and attentive service. Then we sat outside one evening to take advantage of the 'deck scene'. The deck overlooks a little lagoon and the tiki bar and rails are festooned with lights. A breeze was blowing and the frogs were singing - it seemed like a festive location for a late summer night dinner with the crew. Or to just sit and wait with our thumbs up our respective @sses. We waited for our drinks; we waited to have our order taken; we waited over an hour for our food to show up. The fried pickles never even made it to the table (the server's response upon learning this from us was "Oh. Really?"). We did have pity for the outdoor bartender as he was apparently all alone in serving the rowdy, reddened and sweaty local alkies hanging out at the bar in addition to playing waiter and busboy to us, the only diners on the deck. (Tip to the staff: if you prefer that your dining customers remain inside where they can be more easily accomodated and attentively served, you might want to mention that to them. I definitely got the feeling that our party was not wanted on the deck after we'd already been seated there.) Went back one afternoon to sit on the deck and have a quick drink and discovered that the local alkies don't confine their bar stool riding to the evening hours. There was one lady who'd obviously been there a while and was regaling no one in particular with a loud story about having been forcibly confined in a concrete box or something along those lines. At first we thought she was talking to the bartender, but after he walked away and she just continued belting out her story we realized she was probably mentally ill. I wish I could say that the food redeemed the spotty service, but while nothing I ate here was horrible, none of it was particularly memorable, either. But....if you're staying at the nearby Hampton or Candlewood and you have kids with you, go for the convenience and avoid the deck.

Nice small semi-sports restaurant. Excellent service, food good for the price.

This place makes a killing! I was SHOCKED at how crowded this place was and is every time I pass by. We stopped for lunch and luckily a table was opening up. The soup and salads were good, the sandwiches were decent. It was an enjoyable place to eat, but nothing special. It reminded me of any local spot with the basics.

An A-OK place This is adjacent to the Hampton Inn in Bluffton, and adjacent to the Del Webb Golf Community, or as a friend calls it, "Jurassic Park". So needless to say the crowd here is a little older... This is a nice restaurant / bar, food is ok, nothing too spectacular. They have a nice patio with live music... service was very good, and the people are very nice!

After a long day in Savannah, we returned to our restaurant (the Hampton Inn in Bluffton) and decided that we didn't want to go very far for dinner. So we walked across the parking lot to the Okatie Ale House. It had looked nice the night before with a band on the deck, so we figured that it couldn't be too bad. We were wrong. It was really busy, but that's generally a good sign. As it turned out, our server was more interested in hitting on the waitress in the next section over. That's not always a bad thing, but since he wouldn't refill our drinks, check on how we were doing or even bring us our dinner rolls, I take issue with it. Even my salad didn't come out until a minute or so before my dinner. The food itself was average - had the service been better, then it wouldn't have been bad. But the service stunk, and the cooking time was slow (at least, it took a long time to get out - perhaps it just sat in the kitchen for a while because our server was so bad, and it wasn't the kitchen's fault at all). All-in-all, a really bad experience. At least we have some leftovers so we can snack later without dealing with anyone. One other note - the water in this area of town tastes like dirt. It's clear, so it doesn't seem to actually be dirty, it just seems to have a dirt taste. I don't know what it is exactly. But you might want to drink something other than water. Or get a few lemons to go with the water.

Let's just say there aren't many "unique" food options in the Bluffton/Okatie, SC area unless you head towards Hilton Head or Savannah. A lot of the people at the Okatie Ale House are from the Sun City community that's right next door... and across the street. There were a lot of options on the menu. The first time I went, I had the fajitas and caesar salad. Both are not items you can easily mess up, so it was good (but we have to remember, this is just a regular eatery, not refined). The second time I went, I ordered the Lowcountry Reuben Sandwich. The Reuben was really great. A piece of battered fish with cole slaw on sourdough really hit the spot. The macadamia crusted chicken salad was also very good. FYI: It's a Penn State Bar.

This place has it all: bar, great food, entertainment and outside seating. Great service and atmosphere. Menu is great for lunch or dinner. They offer a variety of foods from hamburgers to shrimp to fajitas. Service is good, but they can get filled up with the ancients from the next door community. An ice cream parlor and liquor store are adjacent if you care to indulge further. Parking can be an issue in the early evening when the retirement crowd gauges.

Excellent food and service. Live music outside at night and if I remember correctly one of the biggest brewery's on tap. Chicken fried chicken is amazing! Have had several different menu items and food has been delicious every time. Not too expensive. Approx $8-$15 a plate with good size portions.

This is restaurant serves below average boring food. The service is bad and it gets pretty crowded with all the Sun City residents living close by. Generic chain = yuck.

After being stuck on the interstate for an unplanned two extra hours, we were starving and desperate for food as we neared our final destination in Hilton Head Island. Using previous Yelpers' helpful reviews, we decided on Okatie Ale House. For a Friday night, they were busy but not slammed. We were seated as soon as they cleared an empty table. Honestly, our experience was pretty good. Both my husband and I enjoyed our meals (meatloaf patty melt & grouper wrap) and they have Guinness on tap, which often earns a business an extra star! Our server was certainly not the most personable or fastest guy in the place, but our main gripe was having to wait 45 minutes for our dinners after placing our orders. (Again, for a not-overly-busy Friday night, my husband and I agreed this was too long to wait for two meals.) The place is also noisy. This was in part because of the noticeable number of families and crying children... the number of children rivaled the number of Sun City residents who appear to dine here! ;) There was live music on the patio, which was good. Despite the noise & the long wait for food, I decided on four stars (I was on the fence about awarding only 3 stars) since we both said we'd go back if we lived in this area.

This was a nice little "pub". We ordered the Country Fried Chicken. It was really good, it was beer battered which is different from what I am use to. the mashed potatos were amazing, along with the gravy. The service was slow and it seemed that if you weren't a local you didn't get drink refills or waited on very much, other than bringing your drinks, taking your order, and bringing your food and check.

Ok yes, it's bar food but damn good bar food! We had excellent nachos w fresh chips, yummy wings & excellent chicken quesadilla! Loved it!

Well we went back and I have to say it was much improved. The owner was much friendlier and the food was even better than the previous visit. All of us got the fish and chips. The portion was massive and the quality was very good. I was very happy with the changes I saw. If you are in town give this place a visit.

A local recommended this for fried grouper. And it was perfect. Huge portions and super tasty. We also had the grilled fish tacos and it was spicy good. One kid had crab cake sandwich she wolfed down. All in all a good meal. Ok service, had to wait on water a few times. But our food was good. Would return. Oh, the Okatie Ale they serve for $1.75 was like Budweiser. Otherwise it's other named items. Not a true brewery here. They did have outdoor seating. Right off 278.

In town for a wedding ended up eating here 2 of the four days it was that good. Soups are amazing crab chowder and onion soup. Pulled pork and Buffalo chicken sandwiches were great as well. Good beer selection and service.

I typically come here for lunch. Has a good variety of food ranging from salads to wings to pizzas and burgers. I have always found something I was craving. Decent spot with something for everyone.

We were in the Sun City area and stopped in for dinner. I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant about going since I had a less than great experience here a few years ago. I ordered the Triple Fajitas - Shrimp, Chicken, and Beef. Oh My Goodness! Simply Delicious. I'd order this again in a heartbeat. Friends had The Chicken Caesar Salad and the U-Pick-Um Chicken Salad Plate and enjoyed those as well. Be warned - this place gets crowded fast. We went at 5:30 on a Friday night and got the last available table. By the the time we left there was a long waiting line.

Walked over from our hotel after a long 11 hour driving trip. I wasn't found of our waitress, she seemed distracted and annoyed....but maybe I was just grumpy from the trip ;) I ordered a sangria and unfortunately they don't mix their own they just have "sangria" wine...bummer. The seafood spinach dip was very good. I wanted something light so got the tuna salad with garlic pita and sweet potato fries. Over all was pretty satisfied with everything except my drink. We then went to the bar outside and had a few drinks. Overall the food and atmosphere was pretty good. Nothing to really rave about but a solid experience.

Don't be mistaken! This place has no affiliation to the MILLER ALE HOUSE! I was fooled. They have limited tvs and the hostesses weren't great. Definitely not your place to watch any sports or anything with the family. I couldn't give a 1 star because I didn't try their food. But I won't return based on my first impression. I walked right out.

    (3)
  • Heidi Y.

The good here is good. Our waitress was wonderful and it's a great atmosphere inside or out. I love food. I make my own turkey burgers at home. Thus one needed something more. Not just a grilled turkey burger and certainly not served with ketchup! Lol. Who puts ketchup on turkey! Lol. That was my mistake.

  • Cameron C.

I guess I expected a large selection of craft beers from someplace named an "Ale House". Not the case here, limited number of beers on draft (6?), no real craft beers, and even a locally named beer was just repackaged Miller Lite. If you like miller lite, bud, ?? - this is the place for you. They do have a limited bar & wine list. The food was ok, not great. (I had the steak). The staff was nice, there was band outside. I was just let down.

Conveniently located on route 278. Although I have not experienced it their outdoor patio seems appealing. Grouper wrap makes for a hearty meal...make sure you have it with the jalapeño cilantro. Bar tender was friendly. Not a wide selection of beers on tap, but the did have Palmetto (local) Amber which was tasty.

  • Doug S.

Only for the food and setting, Outside bar staff was pretty inattentive but inside bartender was engaging from what I saw. Live music on a Wednesday night which was a treat but they folded up at 9:00. Shrimp fajitas were awesome!

Ended up going here after visiting my dad in Sun City. 5 min drive from his house. Noticed many great haired people so figured it had a large sun city contingent. Had the bacon cheddar burger which was great. The bread was toasted and bacon was well done. My dad had the Tilapia special which was fried and came with mashed potatoes and broccoli. He liked it a lot. Overall, the service was excellent! We were seated within 1 min of walking in the door and the restaurant was packed. I would Def. come back again. Great sweet potato fries as well.

  • Frank T.

We stopped here on our way to Hilton head for dinner and drinks. Went with the nachos and slider sampler. Standard bar food but the beer was cold and portions were big. I can't complain!

    (3)
  • Roger M.

Went for dinner the evening before Thanksgiving. The place was packed solid...we got the last table, and folks still coming through the door. If there's a negative it's that our table was 20 feet from the door and it's amazing how many people stand blocking the door from closing. Not nice. The menu is somewhat limited, but more than adequate. Loads of sandwich choices and a decent number of dinner entrees. Turns out we both ordered the seafood pot pie. It was great. shrimp, scallops, crab meat, lobster meat, all in a delicious sauce covered by a two inch high perfectly cooked pot pie crust. They have a large parking lot, and full bar. Several TV's, Prices are reasonable.

We stopped here by happen chance. The place was very busy in the early afternoon, which might have been a good sign if only there had been less confusion at the hostess station. Instead, the line of people waiting was out the door. With several open tables to choose from, the host couldn't seem to figure out where to seat us. Really? After nearly 15 mins of chaos we were finally seated. Our waitress arrived promptly, was friendly, and took our order for drinks. Then we waited for what seemed to be a long time for her to return. The only thing that took longer was the wait for our meals. Seriously, how long does it take to prepare sandwiches & fries? So why 4 stars? Well, if you've got time and don't mind a wait, I think you'll find the staff to be pleasant, the place cozy and clean, and the food surprisingly good! My BF loved his blackened Grouper sandwich, and I had a very tasty turkey burger with delicious sweet potato waffle fries. That said, we'll go back but we'll be better prepared to wait the next time.

  • Rene K.

I wouldn't even give this place 1 star. This place doesn't care whether you go or not. I've eaten all around the world and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. My friend ordered a Budweiser that came in a cracked glass. We informed the waitress and she came back with a half filled glass of beer saying her boss told her to do it and they still billed him for it. Really???? He should sue them for almost cutting his tongue off!!! We ordered half order nachos that had cheese wiz.....come on... I had the gyro and he had the meatloaf. They brought out the plates stacked on each other. You've got to be kidding me, lost my appetite. We should have gone to the Cracker Barrel across the street. Or go to the pizza place or Mexican place down the road. STAY AWAY..

Best Fajitas in town. Mac and Cheese is not for the weak. It is one of the best all around restaurants on town. Service can be slow at time but overall its a keeper

Good Pub Food, Service was good and it was a nice night.

  • Charming P.

so worth the wait! The fish and chips (aka sweet potato fries) so good. The onions rings were perfect. I ordered half nachos for my son and it was gigantic! My husband got the buffalo chicken sandwich and he said it's the BEST he's ever had. No room for dessert but the ice cream shop- Frosty Jack was next door.

    (5)
  • Don M.

Waited 45 min for lower than average over priced food. A very poor example of an Ale House. Waitress could care less about it. I do not recommend it to anyone go across the street or down the road. Fast food is even better than this place!

    (1)
  • Adam F.

Been there three times and have not gotten the same thing...and it hasn't disappointed yet. Fajitas...awesome...and you get a TON! Easily split between two ppl. Gyro is a must get as well. But....you MUST HAVE THE MEATLOAF PATTY MELT....it is epic! Cheap beer...live music...the only negative is they close at 10pm. :-( (due to city ordinance)

Nothing spectacular going on here. Avg Pub food, avg prices, avg service.
