You will enjoy the friendly service, the food is fantastic and the price is right. I thought about giving it (4) stars because they do not serve alcohol, but why, what they do serve is great food with a smile. We will be back.

This is a small but authentic Mexican restaurant. Someone's grandmother is cooking. And it is awesome. Service is attentive. Food is fabulous. I had Chile Rellenos which came with homemade refried beans, yellow rice. It was a big chile in light tomato sauce. So delish. Daughter had a chicken quesadila with cheese. Simple, crunchy, with homemade guacamole. Great for kids, small groups, duos or singles.

Wow, Wow, Wow best hole in the wall ever in my life!. I am a Mexican who married an European and we don't like going to Mexican restaurants because I am a passionate cook and we get very disappointed of the concept of Mexican food in the U.S. This restaurant proves me wrong and God I am proud of it! We came to Bluffton for a friend's Wedding, we looked up places for good meals on Yelp and "La Huasteca" appeared as the only one in red and 5 stars and only one $, so we decided to give it a try. We experienced heaven! I have been dreaming for a Zacahuil (a very special tamale variation from central Mexico) for a long time. They had it in the menu so I didn't even think twice about it, I asked for it. The cracked maize was perfectly cooked and mixed with the right spices, the tender pork on top of it was juicy and cooked to perfection all these hugged in a banana leave of heaven made have flash backs of my childhood. My husband had the Menudo which was better than the one I prepare at home. My son's shrimp cocktail reminded me of the one a street vendor would sell back home in Mexico. My daughter's Flautas were just like my mother's. My other son ordered a Beef Burrito my grandmother could not have prepared better herself. Rick Bayless you have competition in South Carolina!

My wife and I came here on Labor Day weekend looking for a restaurant that was nice but not too expensive. And this was a GREAT experience. Excellent beef burrito, delicious flan, very friendly staff, and great fresh chips brought immediately to our table. Great reasonable prices. Definitely a wonderful hole in the wall find.

This place has seriously the best authentic Mexican food on the east coast, ever! Been here multiple times and I have never been disappointed. They even make their tortillas there too! I've had the tacos and the menudo on the weekend.

We eat here at least once week for lunch. It was a great find when we moved here three months ago. We have our favorite dishes, but everything we have tried had been excellent. The staff is helpful, friendly and take good care of us. The kitchen is so clean, the floors are very clean. That's impressive! Reasonable prices, too. If the local Hispanic eat here, you know its good! We're about the only non Hispanic in here each time, and we will always return. Be sure to try this family owned place.

Relatively small and tucked away in a maze of urban development, this restaurant will provide you with a filling and delicious Mexican meal. It feels and tastes more authentic than the usual chain, and combined with friendly service you'll have a good meal. If you're looking for quick, casual, Mexican food but don't want to sacrifice quality then La Huasteca is your place.

Wow! This was a really good find! My friend and I were in from out of town and had a taste for Mexican food. This place had a lot of stars on yelp so we gave it a try. So glad we did! The interior is very utilitarian. Small, no more than 10 tables. But the food is extremely good! Guac is fresh and creamy with chunks of avocado. Not blended completely smooth. Felt very much like what would be eaten in a Mexican home. Chips were good and crispy. Salsa very fresh. Green salsa was VERY hot so you only need a little bit. Chicken soft tacos were also very fresh. Chicken was juicy and all the food was vibrant and tasty. Service was very friendly and prices are very good. We were very pleased!

Loved the food! The chicken milanesa($10) was perfect. Also tried the enchiladas suizas ($9.50)and alambre ($12.50). Both very good. Jamaica and Horchata drinks great! Like said by others, the flavors were fresh and authentic. I grew up as a teenager in Mexico so I really appreciate real Mexican food when I find it. Prices mentioned are not exact but close.

The restaurant is located in a business park area, so you need to keep your eyes open when driving to this location/FYI its a door down from Sieglers. Just to give a bit of history on my Mexican food background, I lived in San Diego for a year, probably ate Mexican everyday-it is so incredible here-no TexMex. I would go to Mexico some evenings for dinner, as the boarder was 15 miles from my house. I have eaten in many of the MY Mexi joints, so I think I have a grasp on the difference between good and bad. La Huasteca holds its weight with any on the best places I mentioned above. I have been there 10 times and if I was living closer, I honestly would be there 5 times a week. Everything on the menu is authentic-stone ground-honest ingredients and flavors. Try the Menudo, its not on the menu but is served Thurs-Sunday, I believe. The service is great, lots of Mexican patrons but dont worry as to any language barrier, servers speak English. Trust me when I say, you could throw a dart at the menu for weeks and never be disappointed.

I chose to eat here today, because I wanted to try something different. I'm glad I did. I had one of the lunch specials, 3 tacos al pastore, pork marinated in pineapple juice, and spices. They came loaded with onion, cilantro, lettuce and pico served with rice and beans and a soft drink, $5.95!!! Amazing. As I was reading the menu I was given a basket of fresh chips and a very mild salsa, it was way to mild for this Mexican, so I asked for the good stuff. What my waitress brought out was the best red and green hot sauce I've had since leaving my moms house 25 years ago. The menu is authentic Mexican food! None of the typical American/Tex Mex. I am so impressed with this place, and so sure my mom is punking me, I'm expecting her to pop out of the kitchen. If you want to taste the food I grew up eating, and want to meet my nana, then you must try this place.

After reading the other reviews I was really looking forward to trying this place but I have to say I was rather disappointed. On the positive side the salsas they had were very good (I just tried the more mild red salsa, while my wife liked the hotter green salsa quite a bit), the guacamole dip was good and the service was decent. On the negative side the entrees just seemed average at best to me. I had chicken enchiladas (which had a mix of white and dark meat which I'd not seen done before) and while they weren't bad they were nothing to get excited over. My wife had a chile relleno which she wasn't thrilled with. The drinks were bottle/can, so no refills (and no alcohol available either). The ambiance was fairly plain. The prices weren't really low, either in comparison to what Mexican restaurants usually run (almost $30 for two entrees, drinks, and guac without tip for the two of us). I could have overlooked all the other drawbacks if the food had been amazing, but it just wasn't. Maybe we just tried the wrong items, but I can't foresee giving them another shot since it isn't conveniently located to us.

What a great find! If you're looking for absolutely delicious authentic Mexican food for a great price, this is the place. My girlfriend's brother and sister-in-law brought us here after a day on the beach and it was a real treat. Don't be afraid to order something atypical (i.e. not standard tacos and enchiladas, though I'm sure they're delicious as well). I had a marinated pork dish with pinapple, cooked onions, rice and beans and it was absolutely delicious. Also, make sure you try the queso dip with chorizo on top. For me, this was the ultimate comfort food. The staff is very friendly and service is quick, which was good because we were starved. I just wish I didn't live in DC so I could enjoy it again!

Delicious! La Huasteca is the best Mexican food (no not Americanized tex-mex) in a 100 mile radius. The food is homemade from the fresh salsa and crisp chips that arrive at your table to the homemade tortillas that make up the different varieties of enchiladas listed on the menu. The sauces for the enchiladas are delicious (verde, red, and tomato). The queso fundido is perfect with corn, chorizo, and pickled jalapenos layered on top of the melted cheese and served with flour tortillas - so much better than the melted liquid "queso" served at other Mexican restaurants. There are a variety of authentic Mexican drinks, including horchata which is both refreshing and addictive. The service has always been friendly, attentive, and speedy. I have begged the owners to open a location in Savannah because the only time I get to enjoy their food is when I make the drive to Hilton Head for shopping, the beach, or playing golf. I have never had a bad meal here and plan on eating here every time I am in Hilton Head.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
