We've come here three times and absolutely love it. Fresh seafood, well prepared and friendly service. (We've had Bryan two times in a row, and he's great!) We usually get the shrimp and scallops platter - delicious. Nice fresh shrimp and tender scallops. I've had the collards, corn on the cob (tastes farm fresh) and gumbo at various times. All amazing, but the gumbo is a standout, and I know good gumbo, being from around Louisiana. Comforting and delicious. They corner the market on local oysters, which are from the nearby May River, and they're petite n sweet. Come try them when they're in season. I've heard that the key lime pie is amazing, but we're usually too full to try it at the end of our meal! Hope to one day! :)

We stopped in on a Friday night. There was a wait, and then there wasn't for a party of two. We were seated directly behind the hostess stand, adjacent to the "stage". The gentleman singing and playing his guitar made for a pleasant atmosphere. The oysters were the best I'd had all week. I had to order more. I sampled the she crab soup just to see what all the commotion was about. It wasn't that great. Maybe if I didn't have any teeth, I'd order it. I got the shrimp and grits. I was so hungry that I just powered through the thick, gravy like substance the plate was swimming in. I'm a fan of less is more. This was not the case. The gravy/sauce tasted like bacon fat. Too salty. The upside was the small salad that accompanied the dish. My friend ordered a fried shrimp basket. The shrimp were whittle bitty, about as large as the tip of your pinkie. The french fries were bland and unseasoned. I purchased a t-shirt before heading out. The server put it on my bill, brought my change, and circled the tip suggestion at the bottom of the receipt as though she expected me to tip on a shirt that cost more than my meal. Last straw.

This place should not be kept a secret. It was recommended by a local as the best seafood in the Hilton Head area. It turns out it was a great suggestion. I ordered the fried seafood platter with oysters, shrimp and fish. There were about 25 oysters, 14 large shrimp and 2 large pieces of cod. Also came with two sides and I chose collard greens and stewed tomatoes w/rice, both delicious. I thought I landed in seafood heaven. My wife ordered the fish basket with fries and corn on the cob. It was grouper and the filets were huge, thick, mild and sweet. We finished it off with their seasonal special, pumpkin cheesecake. Our server was good and the service was prompt. There was also a solo guitar player who had an amazing voice and could play numerous artists songs from Buffet to James Taylor. Their specialty is oysters but, they have a very good variety of other delicacies of the sea. A couple sitting next to us even ordered a bucket of raw oysters that was piled about a foot high. Came complete with the shucking knives and all the trimmings. It was neat to watch two people have so much fun eating. If you want to eat great seafood in Low Country this is well worth a try. Can't wait to go back.

We decided to try this place while visiting Hilton Head for a night. Very pleased and would go back if we are ever in the area again. I started with the Oyster Rockerfeller, would not order again. My husband ordered the steamed oyster and I had the Lo Country Boil, both of these were excellent! Wish we had oysters like that in Florida!

Great fried oysters. Locally mined by oyster boats owned by same owner. Fresh as can be. Server was friendly and fast. Great family place.

Great food and great service. Our server, Brian, was very friendly and courteous. He explained the history of the Oyster Factory and the restaurant, which was very interesting. My wife and I had a seafood combo that we split and was plenty for both of us and very tasty. I had their delicious homemade Key Lime pie to top off the meal. Good choice.

The official restaurant of the Bluffton Oyster Company, it's no wonder this place excells at... well... oysters. What you might not know (unless you're a lucky, LUCKY local) is that they excell at so many other things! My family and I stumbled across this lowcountry gem on the way from Hilton Head to Savannah, and boy did Bluffton Seafood House hit the spot. We walked in to country twangin music and the smile of our hostess as 6 of us were seated in the moderately busy dining room. Our server was also friendly, and guided us through the proper technique of shucking a 1/2 bucket of steamed oysters as we enjoyed the sights, smells and tastes of some of the low country's finest. On the bill were the afore mentioned steamed oysters, fried oysters, fried shrimp, some EXCELLENT gumbo, hushpuppies (duh), and even some grilled chicken. What? Anyway... This place is a "MUST GO" if you ever find yourself in this neck of the woods. Even if you just happen to be in Savannah or Hilton Head for a couple days. It's worth the excursion for some real local seafood goodness. And while you're in the neighborhood, check out the Bluffton Oyster Co!

Very casual, unpretentious family place. Outstanding food, outstanding atmosphere, outstanding entertainment, outstanding value. What else can I say.

Excellent oysters on the half shell, steamed little neck clams, corvina fish grilled, cole slaw and Palmetto Pale Ale

It was ok. Kind of had a down home style to it. FIt's the family restaurant image perfectly.

Very mediocre. For starters the she-crab soup was luke warm, but tasty. The grouper, however, was completely over done. I ordered the fired oyster basket and was extremely disappointed. The fired oysters might as well been fried chitlins. Basically, it was oyster bits that breaded and fried. The actually taste of oysters was faint, it was more of a salty typical "deep fried something" taste. To be fair, I did order the oysters when they were out of season, so hopefully they do a better job when the oysters are in season. My advice: You're visiting a coastal town, go big or go home when it comes to sea food, search for a better place.

We always make this a must-visit when we are in the area! This restaurant has the best fried shrimp, and their oysters are amazing, too! It's a low key place, clean, with friendly service. I like supporting local businesses, and this one is family-owned by people that work hard to help sustain the environment. -- Ginny M., NJ

Food = 2 Price = 2 (they're very proud of below average food) Experience = 3 She crab soup was not good... too much other stuff (shells) and very little crab.

We were going to Bluffton to buy oysters at the Bluffton Oyster Company. We decided to try the restaurant. What a great surprise. The food was great. Everything was well prepared. Judging from the people around us, everyone was enjoying their lunch. We will return.

This place rocks. A foodie must! Food Network needs to set up shop here. The family that owns and operates this place deserves an award. Local at it's best!

overall disappointed. had such great reviews too. server was excellent, but the food wasn't. she crab soup was luke warm and way to thick (probably a couple of days old) the fried oysters were like popcorn shrimp...tiny tiny tiny. and mostly breading. (we learned they are out of season..so take it off the menu). fresh catch ..grouper i thought was overcooked..not to death, but too much for a place that specializes in seafood. won't be going back

Another visit to the low country and another visit to BFSH. We had no problems being seated at 630pm Friday night. Our server was awesome and was the same one from our visit last year. Started with the hush puppies, had the seafood sampler, she crab soup, fried calamari and steamed shrimp for starters,. My mom had the snow crab legs, daughter had a cheeseburger (still a land lover), Dad had the sauteed flounder and I had the Low Country Boil. Again, there were no fresh oysters since they are out of season. Another great time had by all!!! Mom was happy so everyone was happy...

We really enjoyed our meal. Fast and attentive service. Fresh seafood prepared with skill. Don't miss out on the hush puppies. This is a truly authentic experience which can be hard to find.

Delicious food, good service and decent atmosphere though its location isn't anything special. I enjoyed the music too.

We did return to Bluffton a few nights later, and our experience was very different. The service was terribly slow, and the restaurant wasn't very busy at all. The waitress was not at all attentive, and everything was just slow, slow, slow. The food was still delicious, but we were very disappointed considering how wonderful the entire first experience had been.

My family and me visited here after a long shopping day in tanger. We walked in were immediately seated. The waitress came over we asked for drinks and she brought back our drinks and huspuppies 10 minutes later. The drinks weren't right. Another ten minutes went bye and we were ready to order. I ordered the gumbo an shrimp and grits. My sister ordered the LARGE spinach salad and we ordered the fried sampler. I didn't get the gumbo the waitress gave me the she soup. She left before I could say anything and came back 20 minutes later with our food. The salad was a small and slimy clump. But the shrimp and grits were fantastic same with the sampler. Overall the food was okay but the service was terrible and the waitress we had was incredibly rude. Take out from now on.

Doesn't get fresher. Simple menu with simple choices but you're only here for the fresh seafood. Always get the calamari. Light and peppery; perfectly fried and delicious.

Old time atmosphere. One man karaoke singer. (Bout 70) lots of staff. Order taken food came, never saw again until bill. Local mom and pop shop which we love. Friendly. Fresh caught seafood by them. She crab soup ok....lots of shells still in. Not strained the best. Shrimp Po boy. Fried. Tails still on. Probably should have picked something else. Hubby had crab legs kinda over steamed. If I would have gone to bathroom first we would have left. Sorry this place not for us...

Thought this would a good place! Sorry even though oysters are out of season, I was told that they freeze them for fried oysters, love oysters , but this had the oyster taste with blocks of salts added to the batter. Grits was very tasteless, cannot figure how cooking grits can taste so nasty, no wonder people coming from other places say they hate grits, now I know why they can say it. Flounder was broiled cardboard and tomato, cucumber were made at least half week ago. Seriously try someplace else, had fantastic light lunch elsewhere and finished the day off with some really nasty stuff...... Rg

Service was close to non-existent. Ordered the seafood basket with fried flounder....but received fried oysters. So had to wait for my actual meal. The flounder was good....but not much for the price. One of the waiters actually used our tartar sauce container to fill a to go order.....leaving us with nothing left in the container. Asked for more......but did not receive until we had finished the meal. Would not go back to this place again!

Read the reviews on yelp and decided to give this place a try. It's located in downtown Bluffton which is very charming with its streets lined with trees covered in Spanish moss Hy-Phen a hallmark of The South Carolina Lowcountry. I ordered the she crab soup, the fried shrimp and fried oyster combo and had to have some sweet tea to wash it all down. The food and atmosphere were quite good. I've had a lot of this type of food in my life, and I wouldn't say that it's the best that I've had. But it's certainly worth a try.

Read the reviews on Yelp and we visited for dinner. Soft shell crabs were excellent and my loved the fried shrimp. Homey family atmosphere with excellent service.

Had a great dinner there! Shrimp, scallops and grouper were cooked to perfection. Our server Chelsea was aces and attended to all we needed. Will definitely return.

Ate here with two other workmates. We were concerned when we walked in to the Captain D's-esqe interior but the food was excellent. We tried a little bit of everything from oysters to blackened everything. The banana pudding was a nice touch. The service was good but not very attentive. No beer on tap took away a 4 star rating. I'd come back and hope for better service.

None of us had oysters, but the soups, salads, shrimp, and fresh fish were all excellent. The Seafood house is a little off the main track and the prices a little lower, so maybe their target audience is locals. Dining room is a little pedestrian, but the food and service both top notch. And I always like it when a restaurant has local beer.

Shrimp very good - only reason I rate 2 stars. Service was lousy. Saturday at 5 PM; fairly empty; was sat near restrooms and kitchen. Server unable to tell me if they had a house dressing; cole slaw ordered but not delivered with meal. Server disappeared; had to get another server to bring cole slaw and refill drinks. I will not return.

Four for lunch. The shrimp and crab dip app was very tasty and served with not enough pita chips, probably could have asked for more but chose to go after the chunks of crab and shrimp with a fork. My grilled shrimp and Scallops were perfectly seasoned and cooked. So fresh and delicious. I am not a grits aficionado, but I loved these. DH had the low country boil. He was impressed with the shrimp and sausage, and the overall flavor. DD enjoyed the calamari. I took one from her and agreed they were tasty and tender. My mother ordered a salad with grilled shrimp, this seemed to create some confusion for our waiter. I am guessing that is not a common order even though it is clearly on the menu. I did not taste the shrimp or salad. She said the shrimp were tasty, but the "salad" was iceberg lettuce...that's it. Over all, a fine lunch...just don't order a salad.
