Visited on a busy Sunday morning. Seated immediately due to a whole upstairs area. Our waitress Stephanie was very kind despite the place being busy. Food didn't take too long. Ordered a warm walnut cinnamon roll to share (LOTS of walnuts). We highly recommend the eggs Benedict (very thick sauce) and grits. The corned beef hash was very good as well. Overall glad we came here.

Not thrilled with the breakfast I was served. The omelette was dry. The grits were bland and runny. My friends Cobb salad didn't come with eggs. He had also eaten there earlier that morning and the waitress brought the bacon out at the end of the meal without an apology. Service was quick but it was difficult to get the waitress to come back around. The decor and cleanliness were fine but the whole atmosphere spoke of snobbishness. The prices are reasonable but I do expect better food for what is charged. This is my second visit, the first being several years ago and my expectations still were unmet.

Had breakfast here today with mom and my boyfriend. He had the crab cake egg Benedict. The crab cakes were great. I had the corn beef hash. The corn beef hash was good. Presentation could have been better, but good. Our only complaint was our table. Our table was sitting on a slopes floor so our table was at angle . Very awkward. Coffee could have been better. May come back and try something else, however it's not a place I'd recommend to tourists.

My wife and I returned to Blackstones this year because I enjoyed the corned beef hash they have for breakfast. I am sorry to say that we will never be back. Last year while the food was good there were service issues and the place was not very clean. It was busy last year so I gave them a break. But this year it is worse. It seems the restaurant has not had a good cleaning in forever. There were only two tables this am for breakfast so business has fallen off as well. The service was terrible and the worst part was the owner had a puppy in the restaurant tethered to a chair. The wait staff and the OWNER handled the dog and then the food. In fact the owner emptied some ice into the ice bin (I guess the ice machine isn't working) and HANDLED the ice after holding this dog. Call the health department! The owner had some special guests who just acted horribly at a order problem and the cook and waitress argued in front of us. I could not get out of there fast enough. As far as food, my wife's shrimp and grits had absolutely NO flavor. My corned beef was still good (thus my one star) but my poached eggs were way over. This place needs new management. I will not be back.

This is my first trip into the Blackstone. Good was a bit average as was the service. The kitchen staff was loud enough to make me want to leave, as I was being seated. I will not go as far as to recommend this place or not, as this is my first time. I will however look for a different place tomorrow. 3.5 stars.

My friend Chuck and I stopped in for breakfast before apartment hunting. We both had coffee, OJ, and eggs, bacon grits and toast. I had a biscuit. Our server was attentive and pleasant. We devoured everything! If I had to change one thing it'd be the coffee. It's fine really but I prefer mine very strong. This was his first visit and he really enjoyed the great military decor. Go Navy!

Went for breakfast. Good hash browns, biscuits and corned beef hash. Our server was super friendly and food came out fast. Interesting stuff all over the walls from movies that have been shot in Beaufort. Everyone in town said there were no good breakfast places, but Blackstone's hit the mark. Try it out.....

Excellent breakfast menu, friendly staff and conveniently located just a few steps from a parking area (paid at an automated machine).

Good burger, not too big or small, cooked to order with baked fries. Shrimp salad had lots of small shrimp. Very good server.

Corned beef hash is the best I've had from a restaurant. Surprisingly rare to find a place that serves corned beef hash that isn't from a can. I get a kick out of the reviewers who complain about the owners political leanings. If the pictures offend you, go elsewhere. You won't be missed.

  • Kellye M.

We had breakfast there this morning. Great service and the grits were delicious. The atmosphere was comfortable, low key and inviting. If you like the old-fashioned feeling of a hometown cafe this is the place for you!

Don't know how many stars to give,. Was by far the worst case of food poisoning I've ever experienced and yet the service was lovely. So maybe you order bottled water and move on to the next eatery,

Poor service. Food was nothing memorable. I'm not sure I ate at the same place as all these other "glowing reviews" but maybe it's went downhill as a lot of these reviews are a few years old.

Great food along with a welcoming atmosphere. The wait for our food was on the long side but they were very busy. I had the French Toast with bananas which was absolutely delicious. Everyone in my family enjoyed their meal and liked the place in general. I would recommend to families and anyone else. A great spot for breakfast.

It took a few minutes to get our food but when it hit the table is was silent. With our family of 6 silent doesn't happen all that often. Good stuff, great hometown atmosphere. I will go back.

Wonderful breakfasts, though my French Toast had so much cinnamon on it it was like wading through a sugary sweet desert. Got some shrimp and grits to take to a friend in rehab which she devoured! ! Fast service in locally owned and locally inhabited establishment. Great food at good prices.

Classic South Carolina Lowcountry food. Shrimp and grits was delicious and spicy (if you upgrade to "Cajun style") and the waitress was exceptionally friendly. Lively and random military/college/movies-that-were-filmed-in-Beaufort theme.

  • Faith B.

Cute country store setting with flags and pictures regarding the history surrounding Beaufort. The food and service were both excellent. We had the home made corned beef hash and the Tex-Mex omelet. The biscuit was also homemade and one of the best I've had.

Recommended by our local friend. Cute place, friendly service. Breakfast all day. Salmon omelettes, shrimp & grits, kids meal, pancakes, French toast. Yummy breakfast. Be sure to check out wall 'art' in restroom.

Food = 4 (crab benedict was very good) Price = 4 (not out of line... Beaufort can be expensive) Experience = 4 (very good service and cool interior)

  • Fred R.

Terrific service. Very friendly and helpful about all the activities of Beaufort. A wonderful atmosphere. My wife a a great omelet and tried the Cajun Shrimp, Sausage and Grits. I'm not a fan of grits...it's my Yankee upbringing. These were good but I still don't like the texture of grits. The place really feels like a wonderful hometown meeting spot. National political leaders photos in the establishment line walls. Will definitely will go back the next time I'm in town.

We visited Blackstone's cafe on Monday, October 6, 2014 and we are sadden to say it was extremely disappointing. My Parents go there often and raved about the food. Our experience is nothing to rave about. First, the manger on duty and maybe owner was not friendly to us or his staff. While our server was busy with another table the older man yelled his name twice to tell him he had a table he was taking outside. (We were inside.) Huge mistake! You should NEVER have a server working inside and out. You should have designated servers for outside only and inside only. It puts too much stress on your servers and your guests suffer. Like we did. Second, my husband ordered the club sandwich with turkey, ham, bacon, cheese, and regular mustard only. It came out with everything on it. He can't eat mayo so he sent it back. The server before hand told us the chef put lettuce on it and asked if we just wanted to take it off when we got it or make a new one. He was just going to take it off. He also got deli mustard on the side not regular mustard. He ordered the cup of soup (gumbo) and never got it and when he finally did; it was not gumbo. It was like a bad chicken minestrone. I got the chef salmon plate. Which would've been fine but I didn't realize it was served/cooked like salmon and locks. I am 17 weeks pregnant and can't have it prepared that way. My husband is getting his remade and I just ended up getting eggs, biscuit, and a fruit cup. The fruit cup and biscuit were good. The eggs looked and tasted like they were over cooked and then sat in the window for a minute. My husband's food comes out and it had the deli mustard on it. Not regular mustard. He tried to eat it and only had a quarter of the sandwich. Couldn't eat any more of it. (It was cut in fourths.) Third, the server asked us if we wanted him to pay for it since my husband didn't get what he ordered correctly. If you want to take care of a guest's meal you just do it. You don't ask. I said we would pay for it because I felt like he would have to pay for it out of his pocket which I didn't want. Fourth, this manager on duty NEVER came over to apologize. The server did but not once did the manger come to our table to make sure everything is perfect, especially after they screwed up my husbands entire meal the first time ... Then a second. My husband paid and left. I walked out as he was paying because I was tired of being there. He went to the counter to get the change and he told me the manger either didn't care we had a negative experience or the server never told him. The total bad experience lasted over an hour. An hour we won't ever get back!

Vacationing in Beaufort and thought we'd try out the restaurant. Great food and great service for breakfast. Ordered at the table were eggs, corn beef hash, pancakes and French toast. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals.

Tried out Blackstones this morning as I was in Beaufort for Business. The hotel didn't quite have what I was looking for. This was FANTASTIC. It was normal breakfast fare, however I typically like things cooked to order-it was spot on. Great Value, Great Service, and Neat Atmosphere. Highly recommend this spot.

Great breakfast spot. We had a new waitress and she was awesome. Great dining experience. I had the crab cake Benedict. Incredible. A staple breakfast joint in Beaufort.

This was a solid choice for breakfast in downtown Beaufort. It was a short walk from our hotel. We were immediately greeted and seated by the owner who was very friendly. Moments later we met the server who was welcoming. What is quite striking is not only the large and airy space this restaurant has but how uniquely it is decorated. It is filled with the owner's collection of flags representing colleges and prep schools all around the country. Many of these flags were vintage. As collectors of various things ourselves my husband and I thought these were terrific and this big 2-story restaurant is the perfect place in which to display them. We had fun wandering around looking at them and finding our schools and those of some of our friends. For my breakfast I chose the shrimp omelet and a biscuit. The server recommended this as being very good. I took her word for it as I don't normally tend to mix seafood with cheese. It came with shredded potatoes and onions. My omelet was in fact quite tasty, and cooked through (I have a thing about runny eggs and these were done perfectly). About the plating of my dish; it looked bland. It would have been a prettier plate had they added perhaps a little side of fruit, something to make sure everything didn't look so one note. We eat with our eyes first and this plate needed color! I'm not a fan of shredded potatoes as I prefer them to be cubed. They were tasty but the texture should have been crispier and less mushy and therein lies a potential problem of shredding potatoes for hash browns. I took just a bite of the biscuit which was flaky and quite good but since I'm not eating grains and flour these days, I turned it over to my husband who finished it off happily. He had the ham and cheese omelet which he thought was delicious. We had had coffee earlier that morning so we stuck with ice water. The rest of the menu has an assortment of typical breakfast favorites like pancakes, oatmeal, French toast, lox and bagels and the like but then there are some southern staples like shrimp and grits. Prices are quite reasonable. It seems lots of locals come here. We noted that the servers seemed to know many of the customers and this was a good sign. In addition to the spacious main floor, there is a pretty outdoor patio and an upper level serving both breakfast and lunch. This is a spot to which we will happily return.

Out-of-towners skip this place! Apathetic teen served my wife a frozen croissant. (Can't make this stuff up.) Yes, frozen. When asked to heat it up, she nuked it. This is at $2.50 for a small plastic cup of apple juice prices. Maybe they treat locals to better service and better food, but they seem to treat tourists with disdain. Should have a higher $$$ Yelp rating, in case you are looking for a great local breakfast dive. Such an awful experience that I looked back at the bad reviews and should have believed them all. Would rate this zero stars.

  • Ryan A.

Very friendly place, standard country environment with smiles and nothing fancy. Owners and family run the place filled with pennants and flags ceiling to floor. Service wasn't the most efficient, but if you're in a hurry you probably shouldn't be in the south. This spot is a great place to start your relaxing day in downtown Beaufort... be sure to checkout the local galleries!

  • Brian R.

No idea how food is yet. Been waiting 25 minutes since order. Pretty sure I see my pancakes sitting in wind for last 15 minutes. This place is only crowded because very few breakfast spots downtown. Window was packed with food, owner comes by and rearranges plates and walks off. Hello, help out and take food to tables. Sad to say, but should've gone to IHOP.

  • Cameron B.

We had the sweetest waitress serve us here. I love the feel of the place, as they honor many military academies and units by hanging their flags as decorations here. I had the cajun shrimp and grits, and boy were they good. Like drive-back-to-Beaufort-just-for-a-bowl-of-that kind of good.

  • Robert S.

Great Service thanks Autumn! The Corned Beef Hash, Shrimp n Grits, and oh the Pecan Roll were very good. Enjoyed speaking with owner about history of area. On the DARK side though ....The parking meter situation is awful 25 cents only gets u 15 minutes. ..., make sure you bring bag of quarters or be prepared to pay the $10 fine!

I'd rather go to Waffle House, there I know my food will be cold. The "window" in the kitchen is way to small to keep food warm for a joint that big. The server couldn't have cared less about the hardened, cold grits. It was almost ten minutes for another bowl, cold too. I remember, back in the day, when Blackstone's was on Bay St. it was really good.. Currently the staff has an asinine attitude. I was a server for the past several years, while in nursing school. Our kitchen was small and we sat 300 guest a day, working with two floor waiter/host/bussers. The servers need to drop the Laissez Faire attitudes.

My dining companion had the corned beef hash breakfast which she said is like "dog food for humans." I had a two egg breakfast with sausage, toast, and grits. The sausage patties were super thin, very dry, and burned badly. The toast was dry. The grits weren't creamy and totally lackluster (they tasted exactly like the grits at Waffle House but at triple the price). Yucky. In addition to being disgusted by the food, I was even more disgusted by the politics here. This place was previously the (donated) election headquarters for J. Gresham Barrett's campaign for SC Governor. Barrett has the distinction of being a part of the 7% of Congresspeople who voted AGAINST the renewal of the Voting Rights Act in 2006. Gross. The restaurant is also filled with photos of the restaurant owner with a variety of right-wing Republican politicians. The owner is also an enthusiastic Rick Perry supporter ( youtube.com/watch?v=0PAJ… ). You can get free Rick Perry bumper stickers and lapel stickers in this right-wing establishment. Oh yeah, and let's not forget this gross quote in the lady's restroom, which was INCORRECTLY attributed to Abraham Lincoln on the sign in the bathroom: quotes.liberty-tree.ca/q… In conclusion, if you're a right-winger who thinks gay people should/will burn in hell, you'll like this place. If you're not, let's vote with our dollars and NOT visit this establishment. You're really not missing out on anything in terms of food.

This was our regular brunch place every week for a while. The food is good. I still couldn't get exactly what I wanted but it was fun. The wait was a bit long, but worth it most of the time. I said most of the time and it was our favorite. However, the wait was always long, and then finally we lost it when it took an hour to get our food. AN HOUR, no joke, ONE FULL HOUR for brunch. We talked to the manager and he comped the meals that didn't come out right (still had 2/6 that were not what we ordered) but I can't wait for food that long ever again. Their service is what is going to keep us from ever going back, just can't wait forever for food. The toast was rock hard when it came out, the bacon was soggy, the food was generally cold. They need to re-work their whole business plan.

My family and I were in town for a wedding and on our way out we decided to try out Blackstone off of a recommendation of a local I know and also the reviews on Yelp..... Well I believe this is just the default local place, there is nothing special about this restaurant, we ate here for Sunday breakfast and all I can say is that the food is very sub par. It is your basic breakfast menu, no specialties, eggs, grits, sausage etc... The food itself was decent in taste, nothing to Write home about. If your in the area and looking to try something new I would definitely seek out another place to eat at.

  • Alice C.

We ate here this morning and the food was great!! I had a mushroom and cheese omelet and the best grits I have ever eaten. My husband had the French toast and corn beef hash due to a previous review and he agrees, the corn beef hash was excellent. My son had the chocolate chip pancakes and bacon. The food was excellent, however, the plastic cups were a bit small for drink- our waitress had to work hard to keep our cups full. This is a place to go to relax- don't go if you are in a rush bc all of the food is cooked to order . Definitely will eat here again- thank goodness for yelp.

Our food at Blackstone's was just OK. The shrimp and grits was vastly under salted and the shrimp had no flavor. The Cajun shrimp and grits were better but we still had to "doctor" them. While they were under seasoned, the grits were nicely cooked. The best thing I ate was my biscuit which was good.

Good food, but weird racial tension ruins the experience. We're from Texas, but I lived in SC for 5 years while attending college, and I guess the southern attitudes still throw me off. We were seated and the waitress was talking to another couple. They asked, "We see lots of pictures of McCain here, but where are the pictures of Obama?" She turned around from the counter, giving them a "please don't even get me started" look and said, "Oh, we have one. It's behind the cash register. You should go look at it. SERIOUSLY. No, Seriously." Later, I got up to peruse the posters they have of films that are filmed in Beaufort, and spied two Obama caricatures. I didn't get close enough to see very clearly, because I know if I would have asked I would have given away that I was sleuthing and they might have spit in my food. They were derogatory caricatures; one had Obama as the lion, the scarecrow, and the tin man. All I can say is, the waitresses were demeaning to the African-American cook staff and I could tell the waitress had some deep-seated racial issues. Which is fine, as long as she doesn't let it spill over into my breakfast experience.

We went to Blackstone's Cafe on Easter Sunday for breakfast. Our dog was with us so we sat on the back patio which was nice since it was a very pleasant morning. They were very busy. My husband ordered Shrimp and grits which was delicious. Very creamy and the gravy was very tasty. I ordered Eggs, grits, corned beef hash and biscuit. A lot of food and tasted so good. We also ordered Sticky bun to share. The waitress was very nice and helpful. She never let the coffee cups go empty. She even offered some water to our dog. :) Do not miss this place!!

Go every time I am in Beaufort. A true local spot. Best breakfast in town. Service is not up to par but as long as you aren't in a hurry, pull up a chair and relax over coffee and enjoy the beautiful low country.

My parents live just a few miles away on Ladies Island, and recommended this place to me on my last trip to visit them. "Try the corned beef hash," my father says, "it's great." Little did I know my life would never be the same again ... As I sat awaiting our meal, casually sipping on my coffee, I happened to glance toward the kitchen and saw our waitress emerging - carrying two plates. Perhaps It was a trick of the light, but it seemed that in one hand she carried not a plate, but a shining golden tray of power - upon which sat a meal the likes of which has never been glimpsed by mortal eyes! I squinted and shielded my eyes with my outstretched hand as the waitress placed our food and excused herself. The light began to soften, and at last I beheld the feast before me. Unable to contain my hunger any longer, I shook myself to cast off the daze and took a bite. To call this corned beef hash would be an injustice - it was something beyond mere food for physical sustenance ... it fed my body and my soul simultaneously. I devoured it like a man possessed. And as I sat staring at my empty plate, I realized that my brunch -as with all good things - was over much too quickly. I paid the check, and Blackstone and I went our separate ways. There were no long goodbyes, for we both knew that one day we would meet again.

I Yelped restaurants in Beaufort, and I found this place. We took our two dogs in 100 degree heat (not a great idea on our part). We walked in asking if we could take the dogs and they lead us around to their back deck. We were seated next to a fan in the shade and the waitress immediately brought our dogs water and ice. The food arrived quickly and was good. A wide variety of basic foods. The sweet tea was fantastic. Sweet and brewed in-house. One block off the water and near parking. Great service!!!!

I liked this place. I had the smoked salmon platter with goats cheese, generous portion of both, and good quality. Very nice atmosphere, waitress very friendly and helpful. Interesting political memorabilia on the walls - I have to admit their food is much more to my liking than their political views, but interesting quotes none the less. Other reviewers seem to like the breakfast, so sort of sorry I didn't try that. This is a well run cafe.

Best for breakfast--the hash and grits are very good. Other dishes adeqate to good. Service is friendly but can be slow if they are busy. Good location--prices a little high but not in gouge territory. Certainly the best breakfast in downtown Beaufort. I think the best breakfast in town is (don't laugh) Waffle House on Boundary Street, but you have to drive to get there.

  • Jeff P.

Great little small town cafe. My family and I went in for breakfast about 9 am on a Monday. Only a few patrons inside and got seated immediately along with coffee. I had the Hash and highly recommend it with a little hot sauce, a southern classic! Atomosphere is down home and the owners and wait staff was very personable. They even gave my small kids a free bag of popcorn on the way out!

  • Erin Z.

Was looking for some authentic southern cooking and didn't want to break the bank. Not sure this was the best choice but we were short on time and had to make a decision, this was the most reasonably priced in downtown Beaufort. The menu was dissapointing, I went with the 'Cajun Shrimp and Grits". It was surprisingly bland; my New England raised mother makes tastier grits! My boyfriend ordered a three bean salad, idk why, it was so obviously from a can off the supermarket shelf. The service was poor, the waitress did not clear one single dirty dish until our bill was paid. If it wasn't for the home made pecan pie for desert, which WAS DELICIOUS, I would give this place a 2 star. Find a better place for your meal and pop in to Blackstone's after for the pecan pie!

My husband thought the corned beef Hash was outstanding. We had a wonderful time here. The workers were wonderful and made us feel at home. It was really nice since I had small children. Personally, I did not like the hash at first. I then smothered it in hot sauce and then it was awesome.

I have been back to Blackstone's 4 times since my last review and each time I have had the same wonderful waitress. She is not only wonderful because she is friendly and great at her job, but each time I come in she remembers me, down to who I was with the last time I was there and what I drink! The grits remain some of the best I've had. The corned beef has is still amazing. I will continue to return again and again.

Made the trek over to Beaufort this morning for breakfast from Hilton Head; should have saved the gas. Indifferent hostess seemed miffed that we wanted to eat outside on the patio because it was freezing on the inside of the restaurant. No regular sugar on the table for my husband who likes sugar in his coffee. Waitress finally did bring some out for him but no spoon to measure it with or to mix it into the coffee. Had the omelets which didn't come with potatoes even they advertise that the egg dishes come with a choice of potatoes or grits. Needless we won't be coming back.

We had brunch here on a Sunday. Nice retro atmosphere and the food hit the spot. The omelet was a bit greasy but it tasted really good. Our waitress told us she was new and needed help from one of the other waitresses. After she got our order in the food came quick and everyone was really nice. I'd definitely go there again if and when I go back to Beaufort.

  • RB H.

This place was in a great location, near our hotel and on the way to the boat slip. They also had a really good breakfast, but the only problem was the service. The waitress wasn't as friendly as everyone else we encountered in Beaufort and made it out to be a huge deal because we wanted our checks split. She said that it couldn't be done because she had already started writing down the orders. Not really something you want you hear when you're in a place of business and spending money there.
