We went to the one in Newport. Wait staff was very friendly. The awful awful is delicious! My hubby and I used to come here all the time several years ago when we lived in Newport. It's still as delicious as we remember it to be! Gotta have it!

11am 12/27/2014 walked in, place was not busy at all Sign says "wait to be seated" correction should say "all employees will look at you and ignore you" 3 wait staff behind the counter looked at us and just stood there doing nothing but holding up the walls. 4th was walking around saw us and walked away. . We left but told the 3 behind the counter "great service". Not one of them even acknowledged us waiting at the door. If they were busy "will be right with you" would have worked but they were to busy holding up the counter from flying away

Tonight I went down to Newport Creamery... My experience was fantastic because the ice cream as always was amazing, but also its because my waitress by the name of Nicole. Not only is she absolutely beautiful, she's always nice when I come in and I'm never disappointed when she's my waitress .#WifeMaterial No doubt I will keep coming back.

Let me start by saying, my server was great. The atmosphere was good. I give this location (it's the only one I've been to, so far) 2 stars, because they really should stick with JUST ice cream. I ordered loaded fries. The menu said, covered with bacon and melted cheese. It was NOT melted cheese. It was that crappy cheese sauce. The cheese sauce had been sitting long enough to develop "pudding skin." I know this because, the "skin" was on top of my fries. I also ordered the smoked cheddar bbq cheese burger. It came on toast, sliced in half. Most of the burger was in 1 half, so it was like eating half a grilled cheese and onion sandwich. The coffee was decent. The ice cream was delicious. The food was mediocre. If you're looking for a good burger, go somewhere else. If you're looking for good Ice cream, this is the place. Please, Newport Creamery, call Chef Ramsay, if you want to continue to serve meals.

This place feels more new than a 2015 $1 bill. The newly renovated location has all the staples that "the creamery" is known for but with a fresh look. Ever heard of an Awful Awful? Get one. Can't decide? Try Coffee. The food is ok, but one is going to either re-live their childhood or to get dessert - be sure you do one or the other! A great feature is the to-go counter which is not limited to food but you may also pick up dessert. A small freezer to the right of the to-go counter offers different sized packages of ice cream.

Can't go wrong with an awful awful but, the food is not too great. Ordered take out and was highly disappointed. I got a tuna salad, side of veggies, and a side of sweet potato fries. The salad was sloppy. I thought it tasted good though. The veggies were so soggy I tossed them. People I was with told me they looked disgusting. The fries were kinda dry and cold. When I picked up my food the staff was very disorganized. I will go there for some ice cream but nothing else.

Only tried the Awful Awful's... and, well, it wasn't awful, but it wasn't life-changing or even that good. I got the chocolate Awful Awful and my fiance got the Mocha, and from the top both looked kinda beige and not dark like I'd expect from a chocolate or mocha shake. They also weren't very thick. Mine was actually thinner than most milkshakes (like really thick, slightly chocolate, milk). It tasted fine, but not super chocolate-y. Service was kind of slow and haphazard.

On a recent trip to Rhode Island, we visited this ice cream shop to try the coffee cabinets (aka milkshakes.) My husband and mother-in-law told me that these are an RI staple. The shakes here are called Awful Awfuls and they are huge! The kid's size (a Junior Awful Awful) was still so filling that I had no room for dinner that evening - so it's a pretty great value. The coffee shake was very good, rich and heavy on the coffee flavor, although a little icy. Being a fan of both milkshakes and coffee, how could I help but dig the combo? The service here was also super duper friendly! Even faced with an indecisive out of towner, they were generous with the samples and suggestions

Came for an Awful Awful. Witnessed one of the girls drop a cup filled with ice cream and syrup on the dirty floor. WITNESSED THE GIRL PROCEED TO MAKE A SHAKE WITH THE SAME CUP THAT FELL ON THE DIRTY FLOOR. Too bad for the paying customer that got that dirty ass drink. Won't be coming here again.

I've only been here to get the 1/2 gallon take outs (guilty secret time!!), so I can't offer any opinion on the food. But their ice cream is really good and a good value - especially since they still use full 1/2 gallons :-) Fast service, good selection, easy in and out. Yep, I'm a fan!

A rather small Newport Creamery and sort of dumpy looking from the outside. I got the impression that the place has seen better days. However the food was good, or at least as good as any Newport Creamery gets. In fact the Awful Awful's were especially think and creamy and the ice cream excellent. What really made this Newport Creamery stand out was the service. The waitress was incredibly nice without being phony or saccharine sounding. Perhaps she was bored because no one else was in the place but she definitely made our visit as pleasant as possible without being intrusive. That alone is worth 4 stars.

Agreeing with the other complaints here, the service was slow and sloppy. The tables and overall look about the spot was dirty. Ordered fish and chips, they were pretty good. The place needs a renovation badly.

we always usually get the same friendly waitress who has a daughter same age as my son. She is awesome and always right there when needed. The food is ok but we come here mostly for the kids anyhow. Ice cream is always good

I've been here a few times. It is small as far as Newport Creameries go. It wasn't really clean tables had leftover crumbs on them but they were bussed. I like this place only because I like Newport Creamery in general. It's a Rhode Island small restaurant chain that is one step up from diners. They do try to keep up with what is going on in the current restaurant trends as evidenced by their quesadillas and entree sized salads. The food is not amazing. It's comfort food, New England style. This is a good place for a family to dine at as usually on a certain day they have a special activity day for families with small children. This was one of the nicest places that my Grandparents took us when we were kids. Basically they were diner/greasy spoon type customers whose motto was: the bigger, the better. And the restaurants still retained the old style counter service that you'd find in diners as well as the typical booths. I usually order the fish and chips at Newport Creameries because their hearty and fresh. This time I and my friend ordered the daily special: The Big Beef Melt. I had fries with it and she had coleslaw. It's nice that you can get steamed broccoli, fries, seasoned fries, coleslaw or potato salad instead of being stuck with whatever they give you. The sandwich was not what I expected. I can't say that that means it was bad, it wasn't. It was awesome, seriously but the calories on this baby made my heart get stuck on a beat. Imagine two grilled cheese sandwiches with a hamburger patty between the two as if they are buns. I was a bit floored. This was for $7.99 no less. It had tomatoes and lettuce on the side which was excellent when I added the pieces to the sandwich. I like greens and vegetables on my burgers and these two things actually added some much needed crunch and (believe it or not,) lightness to this carb-o-rama recipe. Both my friend and I almost balked when we saw the burgers placed in front of us. But we also ate every last bit. Of course I couldn't eat dinner last night but as a seldom enjoyed treat it really hit the spot. Newport Creamery has good burgers. Some of the restaurants make an excellent burger, the one that used to be in Wakefield never failed to make a juicy hot patty. The burgers come in two sizes: the Big Beef a 1/3 lb. patty and a Superburger a 1/2 lb. patty. I may be wrong but I thought that they also had a smaller patty that they used for the kids meals. Anyway they also carry a Morningstar Farm patty as well for the vegetarian. They serve a Holy Cow burger that is 2 1/2 lb. patties served club style; my son used to favor those before becoming more conscious of his eating habits. They serve club sandwiches (I also used to eat these pretty regularly,) as well as other types of sandwiches like chicken breast, a real fish fillet battered on a bun, hot dogs, tuna melts and other kinds of sandwiches as well as wraps and the afore mentioned quesadillas. They also have regular dinner entrees that are typical fare in New England as well as most any other place like chicken dishes, a chopped sirloin dish and a few seafood dishes. As an aside I have to remark that I favor Newport Creamery fries over any other fries. They taste similar to what McDonald's fries tasted like before they stopped frying their fries in animal fat. Since I drown my fries in vinegar you'd think I wouldn't be able to taste the difference but I can. I love them. The servers were nice and laid back. The counter men were friendly and helpful. When I remarked that I love NC's Pumpkin Ice Cream, the man behind the counter told me they'd be getting it soon in time for the Fall season. I asked if there'd be Egg Nog Ice Cream too and he told me that there would be. These two flavors are typically hard to find and so delicious. I'm not an ice cream person but every Fall I find a Newport Creamery and buy it if it isn't sold out. I will always go to Newport Creamery basically because I want to support local businesses and because of the nostalgia factor. I'd recommend it if you aren't looking to be WOWED! If you want a decent local place that serves nice food it's the place to go. Oh yeah! And it's a creamery people! It's where the Awful Awful comes from! Ice cream here is great. They have a nice creamy type. They still have frozen pudding an old style flavor that you rarely see nowadays (it's also called tutti frutti elsewhere and may seem yucky because it has dried fruits that are marinated in rum and mixed into the ice cream but it is actually delicious.) So get a treat too! (My friend and I went and browsed through Job Lot across the street and came back to eat a banana split. It was a relaxing happy day.)
