Saw this place driving by and decided to pop in for a quick lunch today. This fast casual place offers $1 tacos and they were awesome. A lot of different types to choose from. I tried 4 different ones combining hard and soft shells. The homemade hot sauce went well on them too. Feasted on chips and salsa from their self serve stand as I waited. I always thought it would be a great idea to have $1 tacos like the pizza spots in NYC offer $1 slices. Using higher quality and authentic ingredients for a reasonable price will keep me coming back over and over. All restaurants should focus on building a loyal customer base as opposed to overcharging for their food because then I never go back. The ones that do have decent prices like the fast food chains just don't have the same quality. I won't eat that fatty slop anymore. California Taco is pulling off fast casual better than everyone else in the area. I hope their business thrives with this genius concept and I will return soon.

Burritos are all good, breakfast to dinner, wish they'd bring back the potatoes tho :/ Cant beat good quality $1 tacos. Regular fish tacos are pretty on point too. Love the side of beans they do. Overall decent little taco/burrito joint

PSA if you've ever used your credit card at the California Taco Shop off of Elmwood St. in Warwick to check for fraudulent charges. I've had 2 different cards within 3 months with fraud charges and the last place they were both used at is Cali Taco Shop. With my last card this was the only place I've used the card in about 8 months.

Overpriced and not good quality food. Quesadilla came out soggy and dripping. The chicken they used was not of good quality. Certainly not worth $11 for a quesadilla and a can of soda.

Went there for Cinco De Mayo for the first time. The food was good but really didn't like the fact they have no social media!!! No website, their Facebook page was pointless!!!! If you want more business u need to make an effort!! When your looking for a new place to eat u want info about how good/bad it is and to be able to see the menu.just FYI

I found this place driving by one day and decided to stop by for lunch some other time. Today, I came in and was very impressed. Being originally from California, the flavor is spot on what I would find around San Diego. I ordered the California Burrito combo and I was impressed. They make their own hot sauce and the food was fresh and the presentation was exceptional for its target market. My only gripe is they don't carry lingua, which is what I always asked for back home when it comes to food like this. All it takes is that one little tweak, because I've been all over the state and so far only one place serves it and it's too far of a drive from the office. Definitely on my list of choices to go for lunch during the week either way.

Friendly service, way more authentic than poco loco, the food is not expensive and tastes pretty good, therefore I will definitely be back.

For a local taco shop this is a great place and very affordable. They also offer $1 tacos! Regular tacos are $2.50 each. They also have a lot of different dishes besides tacos. They also have free nachos and salsa, which is delicious! Staff was friendly and the facility was clean. I have a shrimp hard taco and a pork soft taco which were both good! The taco shells are doubled and are more authentic than places such as taco bell. If you are in the mood for tacos and etc feel free to come in and try some of this food!

Authentic California style tacos. Interior is not fancy by any means, but for a tasty, cheap taco fix this is the place,

I have been here about 5 times since it opened and I really like it. The owner is really friendly and it was fun to talk to him while waiting for my order. The food is very tasty and cheap. You get a lot of food for your dollar. I ordered their vegetarian monster burrito for my husband so he could have something to eat for Thanksgiving and he loved it. SO BIG! I always get a few different types of tacos, burritos, the combo plate, etc. It is a good place to get your fix. One thing I will say is that it would be great if they had a website and put their menu online. When I was researching it before going I went to search online but couldn't find any info. It would be a big plus if they did that. Also the parking is kind of tight. It is at a weird corner right at the Elmwood/Post Road intersection. You can always park in the Subway parking lot but still it is a bit of a pain. All in all, I like the place, I like the food and I will continue to go back.

If you're looking for a fantastic taco shop, look no further. Every time I've been here I've had a positive experience. Helpful, curteous staff and the food is out of this world. I've tried a little of everything and it's always consistent and delicious. Simple, fresh ingredients, made to order with lots of sauce options to suit every pallette from mild to spicy. Stop in! Try the Al Pastor marinated pork in your taco, quesadilla or nachos ((my personal favorite))

I can't say enough good things about this place. Let's start off with the all you can eat chips and salsa. So good. Beware the salsa is a bit spicy. I wasn't ready for it and my mouth was very stunned, lol. But it was really tasty in moderation. My boyfriend and I each got dollar tacos. I got three ground beef and he got 2 chicken and 2 steak. So. Good. We also got some rice and it was super tasty. We got Jarritos to drink and it was the perfect refreshment. The service was also great and quick. We ended our meal with some fried Oreos, you can't go wrong. They don't only have tacos either. They have burritos, empanadas, quesadillas, tostadas. I can't wait to come back and try something else! Our bill only came out to $18 for all that food!! You get a lot of YUMMY authentic Mexican food for your buck. Check this place out!! Especially if you're not wanting to spend a ton of money.

I got the tacos and really didn't like the flavor of the shell they use. A very bitter sort of corn taste. The chicken was okay but the carne asada had some chewy parts to it !!!! I couldn't chew it and had to spit it back out. On the other hand the rice and beans were really good and their chips are Nice and crunchy. You can serve yourself as many chips as u want along with different kinds of salsa and jalapenos and veggies. My bf got the chimichangas and I definitely should of ordered that. If I come back I will order that except with a different kind of meat. Definitely NOT the carne asada YUCK !!!!

Went in and had a quesodilla with churizo. Very fresh ingredients used. The food was prepared well and plated (to go) well enough. The churizo was plenty flavorful. The sour creme and salsa are very clean, tasty products as well. The one thing I could have lived without is the grease. I mean I know chorizo is greasy, but hot damn was there a lot of greese. But all in all, fantastic meal. Will be returning.

I will admit I was pretty stoked when I first heard of this taco shop opening as I'm a huge lover of everything taco related lol. From what I understand the same owner has 5 in RI. I actually had the pleasure of meeting him outside of his store as it was being built at the end of this summer, super cool guy. With that said it wasn't until last week I was first able to try their tacos and tosta. A co worker and I got it too go. The hard shell taco seemed fresher then most places like they press themselves but dry. They don't soak up juice well and leak through so don't let them sit for to long. The chicken had flavor not a lot of punch tho, and I mean always get sour cream, it's most likely just me but sour cream completes tacos. The tosta was my favorite out of the two. It had crunch and held the juice from the meat perfectly. I used a fork to eat was super easy-hey I had a work shirt on and couldn't get dirty lol yes on that day I was that person with a fork :) I ended up having them twice last week to go. Maybe next time Ill try a quesadilla I think they looked good too. Prices are inexpensive and from what I saw $1 tacos. Hmmm 3 star only because I didn't din in and taco was so so.

I ordered the taco combo. tasteless rice and refried beans. dry underwhelming tacos. for a slight increase in price I suggest going up to Chipotle up the street. Not as they say "The best Taco in Rhode Island"

I will never come back here again. The employees are rude and plain stupid. I asked for four soft tacos with lettuce cheese meat only nothing else especially no onions, she repeated the order back exactly. I received 4 with no lettuce no cheese and cilantro mixed in the meat with onions.. When I asked about lettuce or cheese they said well that's extra it doesn't come with it. Why would you repeat my order having lettuce and cheese then tell me after that it won't come that way and treat me the customer like I'm the bad person. I will never return when I asked for new tacos they were rude and blamed it on me. I wouldn't eat here again if the owner personally bought my meal. Btw they charged us for drinks and when they brought out food and asked if we wanted to buy drinks even though we never received the ones I paid for. Better use of my cash would be burning my cash

I love California-style tacos, so had to do a U-turn and stop in for a few to go. I got 1 al pastor and 1 fish. The corn tortillas are from a bag, but they do grill them up... and include fresh lime wedges in the box. The pastor was ok, kinda bland.... I didn't use the included red salsa. The fish was bad. Frozen cod square and tartar sauce plus the standard iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro & sour cream. It just didn't go well together... Needed a cabbage slaw instead of tartar sauce.

I was excited when the California Taco Shop opened in our neighborhood, but didn't get a chance to visit until today. All in all, we were happy with the food and I can see it becoming a regular stomping ground. I ordered a taco salad (minus the shell). For meat, I chose pulled pork (carnitas) and it was really delicious. The salad was HUGE. It was a mix of rice, beans, guacamole, lettuce, cheese tomatoes and meat. It came in a big bowl and I actually couldn't finish it. I doused it with some Tapatio sauce and the whole thing was really delicious. My son got the steak quesadilla, and though it was ok, it was a little bit lacking in flavor. Next time, I think he will order the carnitas or chorizo. The prices were fair. I paid $7.99 for my salad. I would certainly visit again.

My fiancé and I are both from Warwick and yesterday was our first time getting to visit this place! Well of the 3 woman standing at the counter, only one was friendly and helpful when we were asking questions about the menu, the other must have been new cause she had no answers and the other one seemed unhappy and just wanted to shut us up. Our order was to go. I got a bean burrito and it was SO SALTY! nothing special. My fiancé got a meat chimichanga! Well about 4 hours later HE WAS IN THE BATHROOM THROWING UP AND LETS JUST SAY IT WAS COMING OUT BOTH ENDS....poor guy! I on the other hand had to take a handful of tums to calm my stomach! We will NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN!

Absolutely amazing food. Service is ok - there are a few great waitresses and a few that aren't so attentive. The food though is so good!

This place has amazing Mexican food! My boyfriend and I went in there one snow afternoon to grab a quick bite to eat and we were also intrigued by the $1 tacos! They were out of this world! I have tried a few of the other things such as the tostadas and quesadilla and they were just as delicious! This is one of the best places I have been in Rhode Island for authentic Mexican food!

Amazing west coast Tex-Mex style Mexican food that I am accustom to being from AZ, CA and CO. If you are a West Coaster and look for good Mexican food to remind you of home, this is the place.

Wow, really good food. Had a shrimp taco and a shrimp tostada. No frills exterior or interior. The food is good and the prices are average. I'm not sure why other people think it's expensive. I've seen way higher prices.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
