Me and girlfriend just lef Yama Fuji stuffed and totally satisfied. Luckily we were able to sit at the sushi bar, which I had never done before. The sushi chef greeted us as we sat down which was nice becuase I never see too much communication between the sushi chefs and customers in other restaraunts. I ordered a spicy tuna roll, the Flower Roll, and tamago sushi. My girlfriend ordered the chicken hibachi, shrimp sushi and king crab sushi. She enjoyed the chicken and shrimp but the king crab sushi was the star of her meal. My spicy tuna roll was excellent as was the tamago but the Flower roll was out of this world!! It was amazing!! The sushi chef even gave us a sample of white tuna, which we were ogling the presentation of prior to him giving it to us because it looked delicious, and it was also incredibly good. The staff was phenomenal and always there when I needed them. Very polite too. All in all, a fantastic experience! I'll definitely be back with friends!

Love love love the Yama Fuji roll. My partner had the shrimp tempura roll. Also excellent. Would be 5 stars but the service could have been better. Had to look for the server to get the check after waiting quite some time.

This place is pretty great in terms of food, ambiance and service. The duck roll appetizer is my absolute favorite. I've had it a couple times with a dinner party and everyone was a fan. Whenever I go, the place is never packed and thats a plus for me. The pad thai is what I get when I don't get sushi. Their portions are well sized and the waitress is very attentive and accommodating. I order delivery whenever I want to treat myself on Friday nights after a long work week and its nice. They deliver within a reasonable amount of time and food comes well packaged.

This has to be one of the worst experiences in my life eating or ordering sushi, the manager or owner was so rude, not only they gave us the wrong order, he got mad i did not wanted to buy what I originally ordered. I also receive from them an email with a $8 discount on my next order, not only they didn't honor it, again he got mad at me, started yelling at me and making me feel like I did something wrong. I would never recommend this place to anyone, not even to my enemies (I hope i dont have any, probably just the manager there) they are very cheap in giving you any kind of sauce. Spend your money elsewhere because they won't appreciate you as a value customer. And now I understand why is always empty. Something for sure, they won't see me or anyone i truly care there again. Truly, A very disappointed customer.

Went for lunch, mostly empty restaurant. Good sushi with large portion sizes, just wish it were in a better area. Second visit I got take-out, and they seemed upset that I ordered online, asked me to call next time. Why offer it if you don't want people using it?

We've been here a few times and it's always fresh and tasty! No problems on the queer-o-meter either. We've had sushi, pad thai, hot and sour soup, tom yum soup and salads (seaweed and green). Again, all yummy. The portions are good too and the price right. really not anything to complain about. If I had to give one teeeeeeenie weeeeeeeeeeeeeenie piece of helpful criticism? and Im stretching here.. is would be to dry off the lettuce in the green salad more, so there isnt water at the bottom. really, that's all I can come up with. I'll try different things next time and do a follow up, but for now............. enjoy! cheers!

The Fuj deserves to be put in the high Asian food options in Providence. Sure it is new, sure it is "way" up there on North Main but once you step inside you will realize one thing, I will be coming back (that's not quite the movie quote is it?). So I have tasted the other offerings at Fuji from my GF however stick to that huge menu of sushi and you cannot go wrong. They have a wide variety of unique beverages as well. Holy moley if they put you in the backroom, be prepared to be amazed. You don't even realize the amount of space this restaurant has. The only complaint I have, and it isn't a large one but in the sushi rolls I noticed just about all the fish is fried/breaded. I am not picky in this instance but I would enjoy a raw fish roll since well, that is sushi. Welcome to Providence Yama Fuji, you are right up there with Lim's! (don't get me started on Haruki)

My sister and I tried Yamafuji tonight, Groupon in hand! This restaurant offers Chinese and Japanese food with two different menus to look over. We decided to order sushi rolls and a combination plate of appetizers to split. Everything was delicious and tasted very fresh. The beef teriyaki and the boneless ribs were perfect, well cooked meat with very little fat (some places just give you lard to chew on it seems) I ordered the Princess Roll which was very good and my sister ordered the 2014 Roll which she said she enjoyed very much. The service was very good and prompt and we enough to bring home leftovers so thats definitely a plus! I'd definitely eat here again to try some of the other food.

Made a return visit to take one of my friends and it was just as good the second time. Service was super fast, very friendly, and also incredibly helpful! The owner actually remembered me from the first time. I got the Thai Mango Chicken. I usually dislike spicy food, but my sinuses were congested and I thought something spicy would unclog them. Not only did this weird psychological congestion cure actually work, but the food was absolutely delicious! Plenty of chicken, just enough spice, but also very sweet.

They have one of the best authentic Chinese food in town. However most customers are here for sushi or american Chinese food. What a shame. Wish more people know about their authentic Chinese food menu. Try it!

I like, don't love, Asian Food. Ben LOVES it. It's been a challenge for us to find common ground on this dining scene because I think a lot of these places can be a bit, well, dirty. Finally, Yama Fuji shows up with it's beautiful AND CLEAN interior and fancy dining room and I'm begging him to go back! The menu(s) are big, as are the portions, so there's plenty to choose from. Everything looks and tastes fresh and the hot and sour soup was PERFECT! I can't wait to go back and try the Hibachi option! Drinks were yummy and had friendly service at both the bar and at table service.

Went there tonight for the first time....service was terrible....waitress wasn't very attentive....not to mention it took forever the sushi to come out....it was only 4 rolls...I had the 2014 roll...and the spicy fish...can't say it was the best sushi I've ever had....but I've had worse...maybe I'll give them one more chance...

This place is a fantastic addition to providence! For our first course, we had a special app which was delicious. The dish was fresh tuna wrapped around a salad of crab meat and avocado, topped with fish roe. The salad complimented the tuna wrapper and the roe was a fun addition! Since this was the restaurant's new opening, we decided to try some of the fish to check on some freshness - I was pleasantly surprised! We had toro, sea bass, hamachi nigiri and some rolls - the fish was remarkably fresh. Seriously. In providence, whenever I order yellowtail, I am often disappointed with fish that tastes a bit too fishy. This yellowtail was fresh, with the lovely sweet aftertaste that I crave. Too bad there was no Uni (sea urchin) , but the owner said this was because not that many people order sea urchin. But, since they get fresh fish from the seafood market every TWO days (yup!!), I can always place an order in advance :) I have high hopes for this place. They will be adding on hotpot and some Sichuan food for those who crave the spicy! Their drinks aren't bad either! The service: fantastic. Very friendly staff, our waitress was always in the area, glancing at our table from time to time to make sure all was well. The owner also checked on us a few times. Keep it up, Yamafuji! I hope to keep coming back to great food.

YES! I have finally found my go to Asian take out spot! After what feels like years of trying to find a decent place in Providence (read: not greasy, Americanized crap), I am so so happy to have given Yama Fuji a shot. We ordered with a Groupon on a Sunday night and was surprised by how quickly take out would be ready - 10 minutes! I was skeptical at first but when my fiance arrived home with an array of tasty treats, we found that almost everything we ordered (the only item we weren't thrilled by was the miso soup; too salty) was out of control good. Nothing was overly greasy and it all tasted fresh. We ordered veggie sushi so I can't speak to the overall sushi quality but we were happy with the choices we made.

Good sushi nice place . Saw a lot of things going by that make me want to go back and the them all !! And groupon ! That makes it so easy to try new places . Going back soon .

I stopped in at YamaFuji on Christmas day, because we all know that Chinese restaurants are the only ones that are open. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had an authentic Chinese menu! They also have an American Asian menu too, but I'll let someone else review that. I had the chicken with roasted peppers and Sichuan peppercorns. Amazing flavors but the ratio of roasted peppers to chicken was a little much - the heat/spice wasn't an issue for me. Service was very attentive and friendly and made the experience enjoyable. I can't wait to go back and try something else!

Attention everyone in Providence: If you love sushi or Asian fusion, you absolutely NEED to check out this amazing place! My boyfriend and I just discovered in the other week- kind of a hidden gem. We were a little concerned at first because there were not a lot of customers in the restaurant, but as soon as our appetizer came out (the shrimp dumplings) we were impressed and could not wait to try the rest of our meal. My boyfriend ordered a mai tai and loved it too. We got two sushi rolls to share- the sweet potato roll and 2014 roll- and an order of Mongolian Beef. OH MY GOD the 2014 roll was INCREDIBLE. This is by far my favorite sushi spot in Providence, and believe me, coming from California, I am picky about my sushi. The service was also fast, efficient, and friendly. I would come back in a heartbeat.

Want to give Yama Fusion more stars for friendly service, but had to knock one off cuz they gave me grief about redeeming my free Yelp check in coupon. Apparently they want you to tell them before you order?!? Well then, put that in writing somewhere, people! Really we're talking a lot of fuss for saving $3! Here is a little secret for biz owners the world over: treat your customers well and they'll be back! Now, I am not so sure....will give them a 2nd chance tho--maybe...

I have only ordered take-out and delivery from here via GrubHub and was quite impressed by the quality of the sushi as well as the presentation. Highly recommend the flower roll, the sushi appetizer, and the Hibachi fried rice (shrimp).

What a great time we had at Yamafuji! Big beautiful bar with the best Mai Tai's ever...full of two kinds of rum, fresh juice and the obligatory fruit...but what a killer drink. The decor is just beautiful and elegant, with darkened windows to add to the mood. I wish we were heading out for a full dinner but just had drinks and appetizers on our minds. We enjoyed delicious shrimp dumplings with a killer sauce and some oh so healthy nime chow. The place is huge, even has a function room in the back for private parties. The service is top notch aided by the charm and talent of the manager Kobe. He made us feel so welcome and even treated us to a fried ice cream dessert. Next time we're planning on an all out feast and will definitely be back to Yamafuji soon!

Yama Fuji is really good! They have a lot of sushi rolls to choose from. I especially enjoy their sweet potato roll-- I know it's not traditional sushi but it's very tasty. Their naruto roll is also delicious. Unfortunately I haven't had their food, other than the crab rangoons and shumai which were both good. The inside of the restaurant is clean. All of the staff is very friendly. I recommend the sushi lunch special, 3 rolls for $12 plus soup or salad, such a good deal. Only reason I did not give 5 stars is because their salad greens are not very fresh.

I'm a little spoiled by the quality Sichuan food in MA, and I was happy to here that a RI restaurant was offering a new Sichuan menu. We took out orders of braised fish, cumin lamb, chicken with chiles, spicy beef and tendon, and dan dan noodles. The fish and lamb were very good, very close to the high standards of Sichuan Gourmet, etc. The chicken was also good, and had more meat than the more familiar dish with tiny fried cubes of meat with a pound of chile pods. I imagine the tendon is a cold dish since I've had it at other restaurants, but maybe due to the packaging beside other hot dishes, it arrived warm, and was a little soft (borderline mushy), but tasty. The dan dan noodles were a little bland. The owners/counter people were very nice, and impressed that 3 middle aged caucasian men wanted authentic cuisine and the highest level of ma la. They wanted to make sure we wouldn't be angry if the food was too spicy. They said that there should be more specials in the future, especially for dining in. I will be back.

Spicy Maki Combo is great - A side of spicy mayo will cost you extra, which is really silly. Salmon Skin roll, is just raw salmon skin rather than deep fried like most places (It's very gross). The sushi seems fresh, and I always enjoy it. The Miso soup is good, a little too salty but not bad, the side salad that comes with it is just lettuce with a half of grape tomato. I have only gotten take out/delivery, and the woman working the front counter is always kind. Red curry soup is a no go and I haven't tried the entrée menu yet. As for sushi, it's good! The special rolls are way overpriced but regular rolls are delicious and priced between 5-8 bucks. I have tried to order a drink once while waiting for my sushi. I ordered a Whiskey Sour - the bartender asked me what goes into it, as she has never hear of it. She then made me a mixed drink from the menu that tasted that sugar and draino. The bartender obviously never worked at a decent restaurant or maybe hasn't bartended before.

Alright, let us be completely honest with each other; it wasn't bad, it wasn't mind blowing, but it's a decent sit-down pan-Asian dining experience that is safe, fairly reasonably priced with really really clean bathrooms. My dining experience included california rolls, tempura, nim chow/spring rolls, green beans with chicken, beef and broccoli, and vegetarian delight. I really liked the spring rolls, actually, it was some of the best I've ever had, with much more emphasis on vegetables, instead of rice noodles. The shrimp and veggie tempura had too much panko batter and I was overall unimpressed. The remainder of the Chinese inspired dishes were generic, nothing exciting, but nor were they bad, just safe. I can't tell whether it was the spring rolls or the clean bathroom that ultimately won me over, but I'd say that if you're looking for an Asian place outside the Apsara (meh) monopoly, then this is a good alternative. Food: 3 stars Service: 3 stars Price: 3 stars Ambiance: 3-4 stars

We visited on New Year's Day and it was slow (it was also 2:30pm) the service was spot on - suggestions and good descriptions changed what we would have originally ordered. We sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed some very fresh, excellently prepared sushi and even brought home some take out. We will definitely be back. They have real Chinese (authentic and American style) that is also fantastic. Definitely put this place on your must try new restaurants list. We usually go to ichigo ichi and haruki, but Yamafuji is giving them some competition.

Went here tonight with friends. We ordered a bunch of different rolls to share and they all were amazing. Every roll was so delicious I can't decide what one I liked the best. I also ordered a seaweed salad and crab rangoons and those were both delicious as well. We also received really good service. Everyone that was working was really friendly and accommodating.

Excellent! We came here with a groupon and had a fantastic lunch. The staff was so friendly and the food was delicious and fresh. Warning- the sushi rolls and portions in general are generous!

The food here is really good. The presentation of the food is top notch. If you look at comparable restaurants it is very slightly higher priced but the service is much much better. It more than makes up for the proce difference. I have eaten at alot of the other sushi restaurants and the service at those restaurants tend to be more jaded whereas the service here is very welcoming and friendly. I tend to eat here: Salmon sushi Tuna sushi Edemame I hope you can enjoy this hidden gem as much as i do.

We have been here a few times and every time is amazing!! We took our youngest here tonight to celebrate her 16th birthday and Jimmy made her birthday dinner very special!! He was so funny and joked around with her the whole night!! This is definitely our favorite hibachi restaurant. Jimmy, thank you so much for making her night so special!! We will be back to visit very soon!!

I was hoping the reviews about this place were right and I would find a new go to Chinese/asian food place in the area. My boyfriend is only into stuff like general tso's chicken and fried rice so we can't go to just any Asian joint. We need to find a happy medium. It seems to be really hard to come by in Providence. The outside of the place is nothing to look at. The inside is nicer.. The place was empty when we walked in and we were promptly seated. Our server was very attentive. We got one of the large bowls to drink. It was pretty strong so that was a plus. I had the wonton soup. It was flavorless. I had to pour waaay too much soy sauce in it to get any kind of flavor from it. The pan fried gyoza was OK. For my entree I had the chicken pad Thai. Now I KNOW a traditional pad Thai is made with fish sauce WHICH IS FINE! in moderation.. The whole dish REAKED of fermented fish. The taste was also very strong but I tried to eat it as I love pad Thai, but eventually couldn't get past the fish sauce overwhelming my every sense. Boyfriend had the Sweet and sour chicken and liked it at the time but then tried to reheat his leftovers at home and the chicken came out of the batter in a rock hard tube. Unfortunately Yama Fuji was a big miss for us. Will not be going back.

I love this place!! It is now my go to for sushi. The Lovely Roll is oh so lovely!! Everything I have had here is made fresh and with care and attention to detail. It is owned by a young couple that is making Asian food just a little special. They care about their customers and the food that they serve. Make the trip, you will be glad you did.

If you like authentic Asian, run away. We were highly disappointed in what was suppose to be the new best Asian place in town. I don't want to say too much except this place is over-priced. Go somewhere else. Where? I don't know. I have yet to find a decent Asian place in Providence. This place is mediocre at best. Go at your own risk.

  • McKenzie W.

My boyfriend and I had a groupon ($11 for $32 from the sushi menu), we ordered the Tokyo roll, salmon roll, tuna roll, Philadelphia roll, and spring roll. It was all excellent I would highly recommend the Tokyo roll and the spring roll appetizer was outstanding. The fish in the sushi was super fresh and delicious. We would go back regardless of having a groupon.

This place has such amazing sushi rolls. They are so different and always made perfectly! I've gotten both take out and dined here and I've never been unhappy. Service is quick and pleasant! Definitely happy they placed a groupon or else I never would have found this amazing sushi!

Went here for the first time and had a great experience. My husband and I went for dinner, late on a Saturday night. It wasn't very busy, so we were seated and received our food pretty quickly. The staff here was super friendly , and attentive. Our waitress was excellent. The food was very good too. We had veggie spring rolls, sushi, and a scorpion bowl (which was super yummy). The place was nice inside, and very clean. Probably the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen in a restaurant. We'll definitely go again.

  • David B.

Food was average. Service horrible. We sat at the bar with two other people in the dining area so NOT overly busy. Twice we had to walk around looking for out waitress for service. It was as if they forgot we were there. Then the waitress asked who was driving when we ordered another drink. If there were a two drink maximum they should let customers know. Prices were a bit over the top for an Asian joint on North Main Street. When this place was Asian Palace I was there weekly. I will never return to this new incarnation.

Sushi is a delicate mouthful of nourishment in it's simplest definition. Yamafugi has taken it leaps and bounds above. The atmosphere is full of pride with every plate that leaves the hands of Jackie the Sushi master behind the sushi bar. Authentic, explosive and clean flavors shine in every mouthful. We enjoyed a plethora from the raw menu including the flying fish roe with quail egg (I highly recommend) that was an enticing creamy delight to the adventurous palate. Kolbey, ( and please ask for him.) was a breath of fresh air in the education of authentic sushi and the new authentic chinese menu that will premiere December 15 th (Mon.). Come all. This is the place to come for the true experience.

I ate here with a group of six, and we were all very happy with the quality of the food. They have a wide range of dishes including Chinese, Japanese, and Thai. Some of us got sushi, and some got dishes with rice or noodles. The portions were generous, and reasonably priced for the quality of ingredients. The only criticism I have is that the timing of the delivery could have been a lot better. Dishes came out randomly spread out over a long enough time to be a little frustrating. But overall I would highly recommend eating here.

  • Grace M.

I've had the sushi here twice now. Very impressive, fresh, unique rolls. The 2014 was ok but my favorite is the Hulk (lobster, mango, avocado, seaweed salad). Not inexpensive but portions are ample and service is attentive.

WOW Finally a delicious Chinese restaurant in Providence that serves up authentic Szechuan cuisine along with fresh and creative sushi. The big PLUS is the exceptional service. I LOVE this place because it reminds me of the many delicious Chinese restaurants in Boston's Chinatown except with way better service (I still love you Chow Chow City!) The owner was so nice to us, taking the time to talk about the restaurant's menu and our waitress was equally attentive. As for the Chinese food, as close to my granny's home cooking! My husband loved the Brasied Beef noodle with 5 spice. The sushi was reasonably priced and absolutely fresh - try the Sexy Salmon for app (just a nice bit of heat). We also ordered the Alaskan roll (raw), Mexican roll (raw), Pink Lady Roll (cooked) and my favorite 2014 roll (raw). I've also ordered for lunch! Portions are great! They come with steam white rice and a choice of soups.

The first time we ordered from here it was really good. We ordered from here again tonight and decided to have it delivered. They told us about 40 minutes and it took over an hour to get our food (the restaurant is about 15 minutes from our house, if that). By the time we received the food, it was cold and not the best tasting. In the future if we decide we want food from here, we will be picking it up or eating at the restaurant itself.

From the reviews I read I thought this would be the perfect place to try for the first time and they delivered to me so I thought score. I called in at about 8pm on a Saturday night. First off I ordered 3 rolls and they said it wasn't enough so the lady on the phone talked me into the Lovely roll. When she told me the total of $38 i was in shock. 4 rolls for almost $40 and I only ordered one speciality roll?! Wth?? So I paid with my card and by 9pm they were ringing my door bell. I opened the box and thought where's my sushi for that price there was barely anything there. When I started to eat I realized they had screwed up my order, there was no spicy to my spicy tuna roll. As a matter of fact it wasn't even tuna. I was so disappointed in this place that I will never be back.. Way too pricey and the food isn't even that great.

Tried this new place the other day and it was very good. Got the eel avocado roll and it was one of the best i have had anywhere. Unlike other places that put thin slices of eel, yamafuji puts big chucks of eel and avocado and not just a lot of rice and eel sauce. I also tried the Chinese food, got a combo plate and everything was tastey. I love crab Rangoon and theirs were excellent, and once again just like the sushi the wontons were generously filled. The nime chow, another favorite of mine, was not the best i have had but still good. I prefer when made with rice noodles, they make it with lettuce inside. The sauce was also different from what you normally get with nime, it was a thick brown peanut sauce that was extremely flavorful and a pleasant surprise. The miso soup had very good flavor. All in all a great meal and will definitely go back. Nice to have this place open up right near my place. I got take out, but the inside looked very nice.
